  1. "It's a complex place," she said, then turned back to the woman. "Either way, even if they don't have the power to cause a guild war, they still have enough power to cause issues." It was a slight difference, though one of note either way. "I can try and keep warning them against them, though without any solid evidence I won't get far. Do you have any plans for obtaining that? Or should I find my own way in?" @Sorana
  2. "No one wants another war, but that doesn't mean people aren't already anticipating it." She ignored the others who'd crowded around. Eve moved in a circle, starting to pace. "Beneath our very feet are tunnels. Tunnels filled with people. The anticipate the war on the surface and some have left the surface. True, they will be the most hurt, but it will be less so this time. "These past weeks I've been among them, convincing them to either rebuild somewhere safer on the outskirts or below. Some listen. Some don't. The arrival of PlasmaCore won't make a difference. They see it like anything else. The guilds, Investiture. Just another threat to live with. "We have no proof that PlasmaCore will get enough support. The DA wouldn't support a competing Hemalurgic research group. TUBA doesn't condone what they do. The Church won't want to get involved. The only guild stupid enough to give support to a wildcard like PlasmaCore would be the Ghostbloods. "So say the Ghostbloods give support. Then what? That'll cause all out war? "There already are those commited to working on developing the city. There's the Alleyzon. There was some art place. There are all sorts of Investiture related shops. "Yes, there is a possibility. Yes, we can't ignore it. It's good to be suspicious, it's good to think ahead. But, no, we can't cause all out panic over a company coming." She gestured to the man who'd come over at the mention of a guild war. "Talking like it is already upon us is what will cause it to be upon us. "I'm in agreeance with you on almost everything, though. Even if at times it doesn't seem like it." Eve wondered how it looked, a five foot teenage girl wearing borrowed clothing too big on her pacing across the floor talking as though the world depended on it.
  3. @Dr. Dapper
  4. Preventing a second guild war. Now that was something she could get behind. "The people can't destroy a research facility," Eve said. "at least not in a way that could stop anything."
  5. Ugh, addition... 10-10+17=17. You get 17 eggs. Quest: Whomever can get someone to come to this thread and post "[your name] got me to post here" earns 12 eggs. Each person can bring one person and no two people can bring the same person. And the person you have come should not be playing the game.
  6. "They don't listen so much as take a minute to read or talk." Her face was impassive, though she was pleased with herself for flustering the poor woman. It was progress. "But you still haven't answered the why."
  7. Eve narrowed her eyes. Again, she wished Light were. Light would have known what to say. She hopped off her stool, putting her just below the woman's eyeline. Everyone always said that stronger positions were found on the top. Eve begged to differ. "You're saying, you talked to my friend, got him to get me to meet with you, all so your mystery group could offer support?" she said. "Then, when I say no because your method sounds ineffective and prone to failure, you change your strategy to make it seem like you've got more power to accomplish goals. I ask if there actually is any backing to your words and all you respond is that if I'm good I might find out. Again, making it sound like I'm already agreeing to do whatever you say." She paused. "Yet even after all of this, I still haven't gotten any word out of you as to why you and your mystery group are willing and wanting to oppose PlasmaCore. All you've said is that you want the people to know what's happening in there. That's easy to accomplish if you're as resourceful as it seems you've been claiming. "So here are my three questions for you, why is that your goal, why hasn't it been accomplished, and what do you want me to do about that?"
  8. She picked up the paper and pocketed it. She didn't like the way this woman talked, always changing to try and sound appealing. But the woman had let something slip. "Who is "we"?" she asked, trying to sound innocently curious.
  9. Of course. A like minded person, but likely with a fairly different strategy to accomplish their goal. "I'll have to turn you down then," she said calmly, continuing to speak before the woman would have a chance to respond. "I will not endorse the encouragement of telling a people to enter a conflict in a way they can not win." Eve very strongly disliked the people who thought like that. She'd learned at an early age that to succeed she couldn't use the same methods as them. The ignorant, however, never realized. Blinded by fantasies and realities that would never be. To rally is to create a mob. And a mob doesn't think strategically. Mobs went head on into impossible fights. Impossible fights they would lose and be killed in. "I'm sorry, but no." She knew it was possible she was making the biggest mistake of her life by turning this woman over, but she could not knowingly harm the people she knew and loved.
  10. It was times like these that she needed Light. Light was the one that thought big. Who saw solutions. Eve just saw the issues. But she didn't have Light with her at the moment. "What would you want in return?" Barely ever was anything given out of the goodness of a person's heart and she'd rather know up front.
  11. She picked it up and raised an eyebrow at the woman. "Three sentences. And not even well formulated ones at that. Not my best work." Then she put it back down and slid the paper back in front of the woman."What, exactly, do you want?" Eve asked.
  12. "I can do it," Aderet said. She felt sick to her stomach at the very thought of sewing closed a wound, but she probably could do the best job. Either way, she would never be able to look at a needle the same way again.
  13. Eve slipped inside and glanced around. The boy had told her to look out for a woman which wasn't very descriptive. To her relief there were only two options present and she chose the one who looked least aggressive and sat down next to her. Hopefully she was the one.
  14. The boy hurried off.
  15. *debates the risk* *hugs Ark anyways* It gets better.
  16. Here you go. Pay no attention to Ark. The competing brands are always trying to steal our business. You will flip this paper over. The back says, Your lucky numbers are: 34, i, root 2, and 987,342,361 Hope you enjoy the Spinner Cookie™!
  17. "It would probably make her less comfortable," the boy said. To let someone see somewhere she knew and trusted could reveal more on who she was or how she thought. "She likes places near people. Like that tavern place." He remembered her telling him about having a meeting there once.
  18. Aderet looked up. She could tell her eyes were red from crying, but didn't bother dabbing them with a handkerchief. There was no point. "I can embroider," she said. "Why?"
  19. It's 8:08. Yay. I'm safe to post by 14 minutes. Stick has officially earned 12.46 eggs. Congrats. Here's a new quest: Post a link to the profile of a user with solely a Cosmere character's name (no numbers or puns), who has not been active in at least 3 months. But there's a twist. The first person gets 10 eggs, the second gives me 10 eggs, and the third person gets 17 eggs.
  20. Personally, I think the more obscure numbers are more impressive. 1829 for example. Its only factors are 1, 31, 59, and itself. How cool is that?
  21. Many had been destroyed by the recent zombie outbreak that had started soon after the discovery of the "Voidapple". Many people wondered if there was a correlation before...
  22. Light bit her lip. "Where should I meet you?"
  23. He knew where she lived. She'd given him an address to go to if he ever needed anything. But she'd also told him that under no circumstances was he to give it to anyone else. The young boy thought for a minute. "I can ask her to meet you somewhere if you pick a place," he said.
  24. Today is Kaf-Zayin Nissan. Yom Hashoah. יום השואה.

Or, the Jewish Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Normally I try to balance out negativity with positive, but to put a filter on the Holocaust is disrespectful.

    So I won’t.

Someone once said that “one person’s death is a tragedy, six million is just a statistic.”

What happened was horrible. Words can’t even describe completely.

People try though, in their own ways. Because that’s what we do. We try to understand. Some attempts are more successful than others, but when all is said and done, that’s all they are, attempts.

But what’s hardest for me personally is accepting this: If it weren’t for the Holocaust I wouldn’t exist. I wouldn’t be typing this. I wouldn’t be here.

If it weren’t for the Holocaust, half my ancestors would never have left Europe. They wouldn’t have come to America. Wouldn’t have me.

How many others are like me in this?

    Probably a lot.

It’s impossible to condone something that almost destroyed a people. It would be wrong to.

Because of that I take my existence as a sign of something else. Bad things will always happen. They’re inevitable. Some are worse than others even though all are horrible. Just know, at the end of the day, at the end of the era, good will return.

    Even if it’s not obvious.

So, please, as the day comes to an end, take a minute. Really appreciate what you have.

    A home.

    A family.

    An identity.

In the memory of those who had even that taken away from them.

Thank you, Silva, for bringing attention to this. Awareness is the first step towards prevention.

I don't know what to say that doesn't sounds contrived or stupid. I'll remember, for you, Silva, and for all those who've fallen.

  25. Corpses. And blood. Aderet choked back a sob, still staring blankly at the fire. And no food. No shelter. No water. No way out. The tears came in full force.
