I was comparing them more to avatars such as what Autonomy creates, so as to explain why shades appear in the physical realm, while Kel was stuck in the cognitive.

I had posted this idea in another topic, but it had apparently necro’d so no one saw it, link below. It had gone into the nature of shades as cognitive entities. Could what makes the shades different from other cognitive entities be that they are partial avatars? I know we don’t know a lot about avatars yet, but it is assumed they have access to the shard’s shardpool, correct? When a shade kills someone therefore, it suffuses them not just with investiture, but the shardpool of Ambition, connecting with the dormant parts of Ambition already in the spiritweb of natives from Threnody. Death separates the physical body, but the cognitive entity is forced back into the physical realm with the same pressure of the dor from Sel, because the investiture is trying to find purchase in the physical realm. Cognitive entity loses its mind during the transition from cognitive to physical like spren from Roshar. If this is true, could shades be avatars missing their bodies?

Not sure what you mean by both surges and the void. The power set has always been surges, and every rosharan magic system accesses them. Voidbinding is different from surgebinding only in fuel and the twist on the surges inherent of the different magic system. So far it seems that twist is a shift from a cognitive surge focus to a spiritual surge focus. I do hope we see more of voidbinding though, as that system is very interesting to me.

Or maybe even hatred towards Cultivation because he feels that he wasn’t given the capacity he wanted to save everyone after seeing Odium’s show of power.

[OB] The man in the mask .....
Kramerfarve replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
It was Taravangion or one of his cronies. The wall turned to smoke, not mist, something we’ve seen soulcasted before by Jasnah, and they knew who and what to kill by the diagram.- 1 reply

WeiryWriter Are there any other species in the cosmere that also interact with the Rhythms like the listeners do? (Though not necessarily in the same way?) Brandon Sanderson Yes. And I’m sure having numerous breaths would aid him. Not saying He wrote it, just pointing something out.

Shards that various Cosmere characters would be best suited for

Kaladin as Devotion, I mean look at what happens when anyone dies -
Sounds like a herald to me, I’d guess Roshar

Cap = Dalinar Stark = Kelsier Thor = Vasher w/ nightblood Hulk = Koloss Hawkeye = Adolin Black widow = MeLaan/Shallan

Questioner How many magic systems are in The Stormlight Archive, and how many of them haven't been seen? Brandon Sanderson I would say the only major one you haven’t seen is Voidbinding, it depends on how you count them. I count fabrials as one, Surgebinding as one, and Voidbinding as one. And then the Old Magic is kind of its own weird thing.

Greater Cosmere Magic System Comparison
Kramerfarve replied to Bigmikey357's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Could a shard blade destroy a breath via slashing an awakened construct? -
Hey, if someone like the Lord Ruler was shot with say a hemalurgic spike gun that shot with enough power to make the spike penetrate all the way through his body, could it be crafted to take away his feruchemical ability to store age? And could he be killed in this manner?

Nicrosilminds, Investiture, and the Dor
Kramerfarve replied to Unlicensed Hemalurgist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
If you get out what you put in, then if you stored 100% of elantrianness and tapped it later at a given distance from Elantris, it would most likely just double whatever your power is at that location. The only problem with this is if you are “more” elantrian in Elantris then it would be the strength at your distance plus the strength of an Elantrian in Elantris- 16 replies

[OB] Ishar bound Odium (kinda)
Kramerfarve replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
Didn’t stormfather say something like “you hold now the power Ishar once had” to Dalinar? Could this be more literal than we know, and Ishar is the first spren-bonding human and bonded the stormfather? (Before he was even a herald) -

[OB] Help Me Like Szeth's Storyline
Kramerfarve replied to CosmicSieve's topic in Stormlight Archive
I could talk a little on Szeth’s high spren. If you didn’t know already, nightblood is a very special object in the whole of the cosmere, in that it is the single most invested object within it. It has a few very distinct differences between it and shardblades in that it can sever bonds in all three realms, giving it the ability to kill cognitive constructs such as spren. Because Szeth has nightblood, the spren is too scared to show itself, even to Szeth. I think the only time it is talked about is when Szeth swears himself to Dalinar and he gets a feeling of approval from his “hidden” spren. -
