Just thinking about this now ... but even though it has to be metal and the metal, and as noted a metal that doesn't seem flexable, that doesn't restrict Syl or any other spren from manifesting in any shape the knight wants ... so could she perhaps not become a "rope", but rather a tight hoop around someone nearby the the knight, so the knight, for example, reaches out their hand towards someone and summons the spren as a loop around the person they want, perhaps with part of it in their hand, and then when it forms they can let go or will the shardhoop to tighten, just as they can adjust the shape of the blade?

@Child of Hodor Again, I'm hoping that Wit made a backup of his memories and put his memory of having made the backup in that backup as well, so when he met with Odium, and was shocked to realise it wasn't Rayse and that his memories were in danger, that was genuine for him in the moment, but also a reaction he had planned to have and deliberately forgotten about, something that, when he encounters his backup he is reminded of and then can compare what was done to him with his true memories. I haven't ever seen this particular anima - and I won't name it so as to prevent spoilers for it - but in it, from what I've gathered I think the main protagonist / villain had a similar plan to what I'm suggesting in the sense of deliberately hiding memories from himself - including the fact he hid them - so that he could be another person for a while and then remember who he actually is. @Jaconis I agree with you, I'm also reaching for a reason this wasn't actually Wit being outmanoeuvred, or if he was outmanoeuvred that the change done was just in the moment, and not something that touched him more deeply than just a minute or two. I like @robardin's take, that Odium can't change memories like Ruin - as Ruin "ruins" data and so can change it, while Odium is driven more to destroy, though admittedly it looks like Odium destroying something also covers "unmaking" them and so changing them ... but either way, I'm hoping it becomes clearer later if Wit has been changed, or just tricked in the short term and remains the same person with the same long term memories and personality as before. He clearly thinks he should still have perfect pitch, still thinks he should have enough or felt that he had enough so it might be that it wasn't so much the Breaths were destroyed as it was them being "damaged", still there but now with corrupted sectors, to use a hard drive analogy.

I really hope you are right! :-)

I'm really bugged by the ending, with Wit's memories being altered. So I am hoping he foresaw this sort of problem and storied backups of his memory elsewhere, including his knowledge of those backups existence to keep Odium from altering them further, and then will discover them, absorb them, and realise what was altered and what wasn't. Of course I'm also hoping that only those brief memories were altered, but we now have a problem: Odium could alter his memories again - he knows he can do it and is free to do it, and if Wit didn't plan for this - and I'm hoping he did plan for it - then Wit could be edited repeatability. And that bugs me Unless this is addressed later in the series we can never trust anything Wit says again, even if Wit thinks it is true. Odium said he couldn't harm Wit, but how much of that applies to Wit's goal and relationships. This really bugs me, especially because we know Hoid is going to show up in later stories. I know it is frightening in the series, that someone who was so unflappable and so in control suddenly lost it, but this makes me wonder if he is now permanently broken, unreliable. Of course, unless this is supposed to be a point in later stories, that Hoid has had his mind altered and doesn't realise it. But I don't think so. I really hope this was something Wit planned for, and deliberately hid from himself to keep Odium from discovering it later on, something he will find and then remember his plans and know more about Odium's plans, but ... Of course, the real question in all this is if Odium could read those memories as well as write new ones - or just remove old ones. Mistborn spoilers:

This isn't fully about friction any more than adhesion is fully about pressure. Basically the way I see it is that the abrasion prevents the material it presses against from exerting a force on the object it covers if the material itself isn't solid, instead it moves it around the material, pushing it to the sides. Buoyancy works because the pressure on the sides of an object near the top are slightly weaker than the pressure below, but this still requires the material to apply pressure to the surface area of the object. If the effectively move every particle that "would" touch an object away from it, they can't apply a force to it, so it wouldn't be buoyed up. Put it this way: when Lift was sliding along and broke the sound barrier, what was the air doing directly in front of her?

I mean, I did kind of say that at the start didn't I? :-P but yes, four were named, leaving two, which would be enough, if the quadrant theories are accurate, to fully fill out at least two quadrants, and partially fill out two others, or half fill out one. Basically I think that my model, while needing tweeking, still holds for the most part, and of course a lot of these, like with Odium, aren't necesserily the exact right names for the shards being discussed, so Whimsy, for example, might not actually be about being random but rather about just doing things because they seem interesting, etc. So Valour could be Vengeance in that it is doing something despite obstacles or indeed requiring obstacles, while Vengeance is about balancing the books no matter the cost.

Hmmm ... that's a good question. No, I don't think so. I think if something was completely slicked, or if there is no way to specify a direction for the slickness to apply and it applies across any direction, I think a ship for example probably would sink. Unless, of course, belief and expectation affect it, in which case then yes it would, but I imagine that if Lift were to fully slick a boat the water would slide right away from it and around it and it would sink, or if she slicked a balloon it would fall, unless she only slicked the front of the boat, or the top of a balloon.

I see your point, but remember that the investiture could be redirecting those forces in order to allow her to be frictionless in the first place. Also remember that she previously used it to move so fast she broke the sound barrier, so ... :-P I think it actively redirects the air or other material away from her, provided it isn't too solid like a tree. [Edit: basically the air never has a chance to push against her because the investiture moves it to the side, and moving an equal amount to each side cancels out the sideways forces.] You are welcome :-)

Think of it like the experiment of dropping a hammer and a feather on the Moon, as was done during the Apollo Program to test Galileo's theories. On Earth the hammer hits the ground first because it can push past the air more easily than the feather, the feather's surface and low weight meaning it is more subject to the interactions with air than the hammer is. On the Moon, however, the two hit the ground at the same time because there is no air - or not enough air - to interfere with the feather's fall. So, if Lift were to do this, any object she slicked would fall at the same rate as any other, as though they were in a vacuum.

For those who haven't seen it, I will link it here: Mercy matches exactly, Crafting or Pragmatism could be Invention, and Dreams seems like Whimsy. Valour, unfortunately, doesn't match any exactly but it could correspond to Vengeance. So, does anyone else think it likely the remaining shards are Wisdom and Vengeance, or Pragmatism?

... Do I even need to say anything? :-P Truthwatchers are uniquely paired as radiants with the Bondsmiths, and I think we know why, now. The Surge of Illumination is the surge of light and all waveforms. ALL waveforms, presumably includes the rhythms, sound, tones, etc. So, what impact do you suppose a Truthwatcher would have on the Lights? (Also, I'm convinced that Progression is both a surge of life and of time, and so ties them deeper into the spiritual realm, while Transformation is more cognitive, which is why I think Lightweavers probably aren't as important in this regard, but might still be.)

There are typically three Bondsmiths, and Bondsmith powers seem to tie heavily into support powers for other Radiants. We know that Dalinar, bonded to the Stormfather, can both provide Stormlight to others - and open Perpendicularities - as well as enhance Shallan's lightweaving, while still keeping it essentially as lightweaving. This, along with the idea of Urithiru's tie to the Sibling and the presence of suppression systems, and the Nightwatcher's status and abilities ... I propose the following: The Stormfather's Bondsmith - provide power and boost radiant abilities, so support by temporarily strengthening allies The Sibling's Bondsmith - suppress enemy powers and drain their strength, so support by temporarily weakening enemies The Nightwatcher's Bondsmith - "change" the powers of others, or expand their abilities in new ways, so support by temporarily altering allies and possibly enemies Does this seem like a potential set of differences that makes sense?

I'm kind of hoping the Stump is the Truthwatcher they send. That actually is going to be an exciting part - several different orders of Radiants, one representative each, all alone in Shadsmar. Though how will the Honourspren react to Adolin with Maya?

[Poll] Should I change the setting to allow others to follow me?
Ixthos replied to Ixthos's topic in General Discussion
I was going to wait until tomorrow to check on this, and while I still would like to see what others think, based on what you all have said, and the 100% yes on the poll, I think I am going to change the setting. Thank you @Nathrangking, @Lunamor, and @I Am A Fish :-) -
Hi everyone, hope you are well :-) First off I would like to apologise if my new profile picture leads to any confusion - it was originally a white Star of David against a gradient of colours, each corner of the star in a different colour from red to magenta, that was brighter in the middle, which has special significance to me. I got the impression that it was giving people the wrong idea, so I changed it to one that I feel is a little more representative of me. I'm still the same ADHD left handed South African Christian nerd I've always been, and hopefully this picture will help convey at least some of that. ... Of course, its also probably the first time most of those reading this post would have been aware of those details, so sorry if that feels like it came out of left field, though I do like to put all the cards on the table whenever discussing something, and some of that might be relevant to this question. I don't know how, but it might. Maybe that's just my ADHD talking. So, the question: should I switch on the function to allow others to follow this profile? This might seem like a strange question, and I've been debating if I even should ask others if I should do this, so it might be a good idea to explain why I switched that function off when I first made this profile. You see, when I was given the option when making this profile it occurred to be that having it on would potentially lead to one of two things. Either my ego inflates because of people following me, or it deflates because no-one does. It was mainly the first reason, but also partially the second, that made me leave that function off. I'd like to think it was entirely the first reason, but I aim to be honest with myself and with others, and I can't deny at least part of the reason was the worry I would wound my will with that function active, though of far greater concern was what would happen if I let my ego get the better of me with others following. So then, if those are my reasons, why am I even asking this now? To be fully upfront about this, two reasons. I've had several people message me at various times who noted that that function was off, and either wanted to know why or said that if it were on they would follow me. It seems that for some being able to follow another actually is something they find beneficial. So enabling it would potentially help some others' experiences. It might be helpful for me to get other content I care about seen by more people if it is the type of content people like - I am happy to write things here that no-one sees, but it might help others things otherwise lost in the jumble stand out. So, what do you think? Should I switch it on, or leave it switched off? Do you have yours on or off, and what is your reasons for doing so? Of course if no-one posts here or if no-one votes in the poll that also sends a clear message :-P either way I'm not going to take the result as the final decision, but it will help me get a better feel for if others think it is a good idea or a bad idea. Either way I hope you all have a great day!

The real question is can you make only primitive gates with logic spren (so for example a NAND, and with enough NANDs you can make any other logic circuit), or can you get more complex gates or circuits from them, such as XOR or even an entire ALU from a single spren? Can the clock fabrials be used as the clock within a computer, synchronising all operations, and ran at sufficient speeds? If they are so difficult to attract, and logic requires a lot of gates for certain operations, how long would it take to make a basic computer ... unless the operation of a computer attracts them. So a functioning computer draws logic spren, which can be trapped to make another computer ... which can be networked to the first one and attract even more logic spren ... and so on. Also, how easy would it be to attach one type of fabrial to another to allow computer-controlled fabirals? Or even using the split gems in spanreeds as a method of connecting them, as they don't have to move but can function on pulses, creating a wireless computer network or remotely operated machine. There are a lot of option.
