  1. I know these things are recorded somewhere, I'm just building my tower of reasoning. So we know from Mistborn that those who have Allowmancy do so based on who their parents were. It is passed down genetically. We also know that Allowmancers were rare prior to Rashek handing out Lerasium. And while still 'rare' they are considerably more common. Since Lerasium is concentrated Investiture. We can conclude that Investiture is passed down, somewhat diluted, over time. The Nobility marry amongst the other Nobility and keep the Investiture as 'pure' as possible. On paper anyway. When they have children with Skaa however that Investiture is introduced into a new genre pool. So the half breeds might have Allowmancy, but very really would enough Investiture be present for Mistborn. Bear with me. This is the speculative part. There are some minor spoilers for WoK. At the end of WoK, Wit says that there was a good reason that the system of Lighteyes and Dark eyes exists. I speculate that Lighteyes are a form of Investiture. We know from Feverstone keep that Darkeyes used to be authoritative figures. That the KR that Dalinar stops has Irises so pale, they appear white. This is a shock to Dalinar. I nsuspect that he had never seen eyes with that much Light. Since the Recreance there have been no Surgebinders.(Mostly) Adolin musing about Calling and Glories states that by fulfilling these you grow closer to the Almighty, but also that Lighteyes have more innate Glory than Darkeyes. During Kaladin's flashbacks we learn that if he married a Lighteyes, then his children could either be Darkeyes or Lighteyes. There are enough similarities between the 2 series that I think it's plausible the Lighteyes are some form of Investiture being passed down. Whether this from KR or other Surgebinders or something else is indeterminate.
  2. That's what I'm trying to say. Why would it not view itself as access? That is what it is. Like its physical properties of being hard and brittle because that is what it is. If we were to refute this idea, then we would be able to state that fire doesn't think its hot, and Stormlight doesn't view itself as fuel for Surges.
  3. 'Twas not a slam, but a sham! I'm a butcher by trade Actually if you Wiki it, they have a number of articles on the whole vv plant thing. I'm personally not a subscriber to the idea, but my parents(1 set anyway) are avid gardeners, and many members of they 'circle' attest that plants (quite similar to dogs actually) DO seem to thrive when administered some good old fashion TLC (Tender Loving Care). While I have observed this first hand, I cannot genuinely say that is not at least partially a product of offering more time to maintain a healthy environment for the plants. Same way a military personnel maintains their weapons and gear. It's just a way of life to some.
  4. The trouble is we don't know how Invested any Shard is. We can use words like particularly, and very; but facts are this could be the difference between 2% Ruin Investiture and 4% Preservation Investiture. Or 2% Ruin and 30% Preservation. We just don't know how much is alot and what percentage this accounts for of a Shards total ability to Invest.
  5. Hmm good point. Perhaps Regrowth is particularly difficult without a proper essence stone? If you've read the Lift Interlude (and/or Ym) you know what I'm getting at.
  6. The Shin don't need Szeth as was made clear in the Interlude. The Shin trader says something like: He was worthless, may we never have another like him, but if we do I will gladly give him to you. Seems to me they never wanted him, to begin with and another occurring in their life time was unlikely. Setting that aside WoB states that Szeth is viewed as having betrayed his people in a very fundamental way. Hardly something the Shin would encourage.
  7. Why would The KR have Soul-Casters? The fabriels used on modern Roshar were based on inherent KR abilities to use the Transformation Surge. All Jasnah needs is Stormlight, all the KR needed was Stormlight. However I do like this idea that the Heralds may have formed smaller cliques after disbanding. Darkness certainly has a posse, following the ideal of justice. Perhaps the others have had similar ideas. Upvote.
  8. WoB is that Scadrian Iron is atomically the same as Nalthian Iron. (Correct me of I'm wrong Kurk/Hoser/Shardlet ) The difference is that Iron on Scadrial is wrapped up in Spiritual stuff. The Iron views itself as an access to Investiture. Thus it's Cognitive Aspect by definition would have to view itself differently than Nalthian Iron.
  9. Adonalasium was indeed opposed by "something", so there's always that unknown. But even if that's reserved for the Dragonsteel series, let's remember that Mistborn didn't deal with Odium even a little; and it was a major hit. Even setting Shardic Wars aside, we can look at Warbreaker. A book with absolutely no Shardic opposition whatsoever. Never fear. The Force Cosmere will be with you. Always.
  10. Have you ever suffered a large amount of blood loss? Meaning no disrespect, I'm not an expert and can only provide my own account. But I didn't feel an acute sharpening of my senses. Quite the opposite, my body felt heavy, my vision was difficult to focus, I could hear but everything was 'hollow' like talking through a large tube. Above that there was the constant sound of rushing blood in my ears. I just don't think Cenn would suddenly have vampire senses from an injury. As far as the Travel Surge is concerned, the Shardbearer could have commandeered pretty much any horse he saw that would serve. LoL just imagined a Shardbearer mugging.. Setting that aside, what if he used some form of Lashing? A Windrunner could Lash himself and his horse into the air right?
  11. Vegetarians are never justified. It would put me out of a job The idea is that vegans are not eating the animal itself, as that is supposedly cruel. There's plenty of green for animals to eat. Nevermind about the pesticides and traps used to keep them out of your salad while it's being grown. To each, his own I guess. Also to throw another Cosmere wrench in the works. Everything has a Form in the 3 Realms, so Ya..plants actually have a Cognitive aspect where they see themselves as a plant. Even more disturbing, IRL, according to theorists,if you hook up a plant to a polygraph machine (lie detector), and yell at it out use an angry tone of voice. The plant reacts. Giving off measurable pulses similar to a human being subjected to emotional stimuli. ...I'm getting a head ache trying to comprehend the possible Realmatic consequences of this idea.
  12. WoB is that there are MANY things an individual can do with Lerasium, IF they know what they're doing. We, the 17th Shard have speculated that Lerasium has the potential to do everything from creating Mistings+Mistborn. To Feruchemists and Surgebinders, based on the fact that it is essentially our Investiture.
  13. So your thinking is that Bavadin is using Rayse to kill Shareholders, then it's gathering up said Shards? Eh...maybe. Epigraphs indicate that Rayse is a loathsome, cunning individual. I translate that to mean, he's a backstabbing "businessman"; smart enough to make sure he comes out on top of whatever happens. A Multi-Shard Holder is not going to end up with him on top. Odium may hate everyone, that doesn't mean he's oblivious to all else in his hatred. I've always been curious why the Shoad continued to make Elantrians with its Shareholder dead.EDIT:Grammar corrected so this makes sense.
  14. I think the penguin might be right. A last name is usually a family name, and the Thaylen appear to have a form of communal family where everyone seems to pitch in to raise or outright adopt individuals. Similar to fostering during the Middle Ages in Europe.
  15. I apologize, my joke was intended to "relieve" the strain of intense c intellectual speculation. Shakespeare believed that to much tension at the wrong time could create a poor reaction from his audience, and or cause the them to draw the wrong conclusion. and I may have taken it to heart: that the 17th Shard may at times need a "clown" from time to time. And on that note... I call BS, you Copper Compounder you On a slightly more serious note, I have mentioned previously that we'll be digging up left over Easter eggs for some time I think. There have been numerous words that Brandon had invented for the Cosmere. Names especially stand out to me, particularly when we still don't have names for every Surge, Shard, and Holder.
  16. I also reread the passage, and I found something that supports the OP: Pg.47 "a Rider bearing down on them in gleaming armor that seemed to radiate light." (Emphasis mine ) Surgebinder anyone? Could killing a fellow Surgebinder be what caused Kaladin's uneasiness to take the Shards? (Or Sly to cause him to refuse?)
  17. It could also be a sort of cover-up by the Ardentia. They have a majority of the scholars, at least in Vorin land, I think. They use Soul-Casters which is based on the Surge Transformation and, for the sake of this discussion, a derivative of Cultivation(Nightwatcher)'s power. They had to learn how to Soulcast from SOMETHING, and if that were a text, some sort of mention of Elithanathile would be used in connotation to it. If the Ardents came across information that contradicts what they've been teaching for centuries/millennia they would be hesitant to release it to anyone. OR they would assimilate that information (we have RL examples of this) to reflect what they want people to believe.
  18. Oh he's screwing with us. Have no doubt. Kinda scary exciting that WoR is less than 60 days away and were STILL uncovering treasures. Makes me wonder what we'll dig up with the first 5 book arc. All hail Brandon Sanderson, May he live long enough to finish the Cosmere ! (RJ *cough cough*)
  19. WoR Lift Interlude leads us to believe Cultivation is not the Almighty. Granted, it's not fact yet. But as an aside I was on board with Shardlet idea that Cultivation+ Honor= Almighty God. Modern Vorinism, perhaps. I was thinking about posting a separate topic, but this thread is better. Continuing my grand reread before WoR is released, I came to the StarFalls vision again. Much attention has been paid to this chapter because of the inherent differences we see in the KR compared to modern Shardbearers. I would like to point out something seemingly minor: Taffa the wife. Following the fight between Dalinar, Taffa immediately exclaims: " Three Gods, Heb!" (emphasis her's) Taffa' s home is a rudimentary 1 room hovel with simplistic window shutters that are broken(how that holds up in a HS, IDK, windbreak in the crater or no), a table, some chairs, and a clay lantern. All this is to describe that this is a primitive time, and that Taffa is likely an uneducated, or under educated, serf of some sort. And she knows about the Shards. Something Jasnah, one of the foremost scholars of our time is unaware of. She is after all a practicing atheist, and as she is more than willing to revise her opinions, I feel if she did know she would be more than willing to "show and tell". I find it absolutely fascinating, and a touch sad that Roshar has degraded so.
  20. Actually that is precisely the goal with the video game industry today. Creating an immersive experience where everything is detailed to the finest nuance. That's why we have game systems like Wii and Kinect. Certainly we arn't there yet, but given another century of development, we could almost definitely have an A.I. advanced enough to stimulate human behavior. Which is exactly what I was getting at. I've been playing GTA V for the last couple days and I swear to God Michael's son Jimmy is a game clone of Jonah Hill from SuperBad. With the added ingredient of Magic (electricity) I see absolutely no reason that Honor couldn't set up a Sandbox environment for Dalinar to play in. Who knows? Maybe we'll be able to do the same soon IRL.
  21. Just my 2 coppers on this subject: Do you play Video games like Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto? As far as I can tell, video games and the Visions have a lot of similarities. You turn the power on, and people who eat breath and have their own schedules, are created. You can mess with them, tweak thier behavior, or'm outright mass murder. And if you don't like the result, you hit reset and do it again. I don't think that makes any one evil. Why does it Honor?
  22. The pen was slim enough that Daniel was able to skip it in, in under a second. Obstructions WOULD send the bullet askew, but it was point blank. Less than 12" away. That strains credulity I think, considering the pen isn't wedged in there significantly. I think Prof is the only acceptable explanation. Though it seems odd, considering the "Jackets" only redirected bullets marginally.
  23. So at the end of the stadium fight Daniel sticks the detonator into the gun barrel. Unless I'm mistaken, there was evidently some Elmer Fudd physics here. Unless the pen was made of some super titanium alloy steel and soddered in there, I'm at a loss as to why Old Danny Boy didn't take a bullet to the face.
  24. Yes sir. It's expressly stated that Vin had the sudden revelation that she could heal Elend' s injuries. I took this to mean Preservation was giving her knowledge. With Gamma' s input I think that the nugget( that the Well was serving as a prison) simply wasn't imparted
  25. I have absolutely no idea why I thought they were purple . I just reread the passage and they are described as near invisible, wisps of smoke.
