Visitors from Other Worlds (Possible other-series spoilers)
Shardbearer replied to fyodor's topic in Mistborn
They did remove their gems at the Battle of the Tower, after they witnessed Kaladin sucking in the Stormlight. I don't remember whether WoR commented on whether they continued to wear them or not. And who's to say things haven't changed during the course of SA 3-5? -
The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
Shardbearer replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah, that's basically what I'd like to find out from Brandon about this. Does Nightblood have a base investiture where he'll stop leaking smoke if he reaches, or will he keep leaking until he basically kills himself. And also, if he does have a base investure and won't ever leak below it, why does he need to consume investiture at all? He wouldn't need it to survive, and since it would just leak away he can't really use it for anything. So what's the point? -
The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
Shardbearer replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
What would happen to Nightblood if he consumed a Divine Breath? Could Nightblood leak out enough of the black smoke investiture to lose his status as an Awakened Object? If Nightblood had been created with more Breaths, would he have a better ability to interpret evil? Is it possible to use a Basic Lashing to lash something to a point near you, and have the object hover there or orbit around the point? What happens if a Shard decides to invest half their investiture into someone else? Will that person ascend? Will the Shard descend? Will the invested person become an avatar of the Shard, under its control/influence? -
Please put spoiler tags around discussions regarding the Oathbringer scene outside of that thread. Thanks.

What would you choose as your Twinborn Combination?
Shardbearer replied to Moash's topic in Mistborn
I don't know, that infinite Health from double Gold sounds really nice. But then again I might not really want to be basically immortal. Could you die of old age while tapping compounded Health? Identity, Connection, Mental Speed, and Fortune could all be really good properties to compound as well. Oh, and the things I could do with compounded Determination. No more procrastinating. -

Maybe they do have gemstones, they were drained by going into and out of the Cognitive Realm? -
Dalinar's Flashback Chapter from Oathbringer
Shardbearer replied to Argent's topic in Stormlight Archive
I had to look up oldblood on the coppermind. I have no memory of reading about them before. I was going crazy for a bit thinking he was an obligator. -
Dalinar's Flashback Chapter from Oathbringer
Shardbearer replied to Argent's topic in Stormlight Archive
At first I was thinking the archer was Sadeas, because of the Shardbow, but then I realized he'd have to be a brightlord, and this doesn't seem to be the case. -

Brandon Sanderson: "Shadows of Self" | Talks at Google
Shardbearer replied to Argent's topic in Events and Signings
You mean Era 3? No computers in Era 2 so far.... -
I think Kaladin caught the Blade with Szeth, not Relis. Or am I wrong? Oh wait, that was Dalinar. I found a WoB where Brandon confirmed that Relis heard the spren screaming because he and Kal were touching the Blade at the same time. I can't link to it because I can't copy and paste on my work computer, but it's on Theoryland.

I think there's a line somewhere in the books referencing the inn as being in the middle of Newarre. The Middle of Nowhere. Anyway, I recently read the NotW and WMF. Great reads! I've just been through this whole thread and never gave any thought to any of these theories. Now I'm more excited for Day 3.

I am strongly in favor of the Blade Revival Theory. Now maxal, you've been saying that you think Adolin will need to break his bond with the Blade and reform the bond in the usual fashion to revive it. My thoughts are the exact opposite. How can you bond a spren that's trapped in Shardblade form? Not through the normal means, since it's locked in place and can't communicate with you (other than screaming in pain, which Adolin can't hear without a bond). But gemstones allow sort of a substitute bond to form between the spren and the shardbearer. Yes, Adolin already has a bond with his spren. I believe that being bonded with a Blade, by a gemstone, is part of the requirements for someone other than the original KR to revive it. We also know that Intent is important in the Cosmere. So Adolin will probably learn, if he hasn't already, that Shardblades are spren trapped into a form. So my theory is that he will learn the Oaths of the Edgedancers, and say them with the Intent of reviving his Blade. Maybe he also needs a large source of Stormlight to fuel it. Maybe something else. But I think that the main things he needs are his bond, the Intent, and the Oaths. Also maxal, You've said that Adolin was not planned for the SA. Well, I seem to remember a WoB that kinda contradicts this. I don't remember where, maybe the reddit AMA. Anyway, what I recall of that WoB is that Adolin wasn't planned for WoK, which is pretty common knowledge around here. He was added in during revisions to give voice to Dalinar's internal conflicts. However, I think the quote said that Brandon did not outline the rest of SA until after WoK was mostly done, including the addition of Adolin. So Adolin was a part of the outline of SA from pretty much the beginning.

Hmm, someone should as Brandon: "What happens to Nightblood if he consume a Divine Breath?" Knowing if consuming a Splinter would change him could go a long way to telling us if he might be able to hold a Shard. Probably a RAFO question, though.

Yeah, he could make up the power that the story needs, and then make up the character's dream to go with it.

Where's WalDo: The Kandra Worldhopper
Shardbearer replied to Kobold King's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Elantris takes place a long time before Mistborn Era 1, but not thousands of years. TLR takes over about 1000 years earlier, and probably develops the Kandra sometime later. So, there's a good chance that they do exist at the time of Elantris. -
Where's WalDo: The Kandra Worldhopper
Shardbearer replied to Kobold King's topic in Cosmere Discussion
WalDo does not have to be on Roshar, as some people seem to think is the only option. She could have been in any of the cosmere stories. Even Elantris. Yes, Brandon said that she is an agent of Sazed, but that doesn't mean she was his agent at the time we saw her on a different world. -
How could Vasher survive without Breath?
Shardbearer replied to AlluminumMisting's topic in Warbreaker
Yeah, that would also work, but it's not the only way. I think it takes a lot of skill/experience to split a portion of your breaths off. -
Oudeis is correct. You do not have to say the exact words for the Oath to work. Except for the First. That one does have to be exact, apparently. Source: I can't copy and paste links on my work computer for some reason, but it's number 5 on Theoryland's WOR-Lexington, KY report.

Here's why I don't think allocompounding would simply work like ferocompounding in reverse. Lets use gold/gold as an example. Gold has two attributes that your soul knows how to access (leaving hemalurgy out for this discussion). You can burn gold to access gold shadows. This is an attribute that always exists in gold, and the amount is not variable. In order to get more of this ability, you need to have more gold. The other attribute is Health. Gold can have zero health stored in it, or it can have a very large amount, or anything in between. So you store a bunch of Health in gold, and because your soul knows how to access it, you can do so via allomancy. You see a second attribute that you can burn. But you can't store more of the allomantic ability in the metal. That's static. So you can't really access that attribute through feruchemy. Anyway, I don't know how much sense that makes. I can see a hole in it already. What if you ingest a large amount of gold, and your feruchemy does see a large reserve of that ability, dependent on how much gold you have ingested? Maybe, but you can't store it anywhere, can you? You can't burn it, and as you're burning it move it somewhere else for storage. So without the ability to store it, you can't compound it. Maybe the hackery needed to compound allomancy is hemalurgy. Because spikes can store a variable amount of a trait (as evidenced by the decay). So you have a spike capable of holding Allomantic gold, and as you're burning you use feruchemy to store it in the spike.... Colors, this is more confusing than I thought.

But Miles was allomantically burning his feruchemical gold. So it could be leeched. Probably.

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
Shardbearer replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think we have WoB that aluminum does not cast atium shadows, so supposedly shardic futuresight wouldn't work on it either.
