  1. Spoiler

    Name: Tsyan Stainal

Appearance: Older than a young man, but not quite middle age. Greasy black hair. Has an acrobat’s build, lean but strong, with many small nicks and scars peppered across his body, and a few on his face. Practically dressed to blend in with the crowd. Constantly watching things.

    Guild (or intended guild): Ex-Ghostblood

Personality: Irritable, aloof, not quite on the same wavelength as everyone else. Capable of kindness. The type of person to anonymously donate to your charity, then change his mind and realise the website doesn’t do refunds :P. Deep inside, angry and confused.

Concept: Killer who’s running out of steam with nowhere to go. Foil to Clotho.

Motivation (Short & long term goal): Short Term: When the Ghostbloods became the Mirrorshades, he was out of a job. Looking for fulfilling employment, whatever that means.

Long Term: Find some purpose in life. Be happy. He has no real long term goal. He’s terrified of the uncertainty of his future. He’s terrified of dying and being forgotten. He’ll work towards anything that will fix that.

    Merits:

Major: Acrobatic Lurcher Prodigy: Tsyan is a Twinborn, and has Allomantic Iron. Trained from a young age, he is extremely adept at acrobatic feats such as dodging, and scaling buildings, and most of all, using his Lurcher abilities without accidentally killing himself.

Normal: Copper Feruchemy. Of all things, Tsyan chooses to remember political systems, social theories, economic manifestos and other assorted random junk. A small, unorganised subset of stored memories relate to lessons learned in assassination.

Skilled fighter: Tsyan's use of his Allomancy in combat leads to a highly aggressive, unorthodox fighting style, particularly when paired with short ranged weapons like knives or daggers. His fighting style relies more on agility and catching his opponent off-guard than it does on pure skill.

Minor: Pretty sharp memory, even without Copper. Strong-willed (although this is reducing). Pretty good aesthetic taste relating to colours. In another life, maybe he would’ve been an interior decorator.

Flaws: Most interesting flaw first: His main use of Copper is to forget memories. Tsyan stores unwanted memories in copperminds, attaches notes to them, and either discards them or stores them in a cupboard. This is a long-time habit, and by doing this he has forgotten much of his past, his relationships and random periods of time throughout his life. He believes some memories are better left forgotten.

Rage: for as long as he remembers, he has always felt a simmering anger inside of him. Anger at other people, anger at the world. He doesn’t know why. He suspects it’s something to do with something he’s chosen to forget.

Combat: Although unorthodox, still able to be countered by manipulating his speed and getting him to harm himself.

Confusion: As stated before, Tsyan doesn’t know what his purpose is or if anything he’s done in his life as been worth it (not to say regrets though… he regrets none of the assassinations).

Relationships (Eg. Family and Friends): Parents, relationships, friends… all stored in copperminds that Tsyan has chosen not to open. He knows he has a few ex-Ghostbloods connections, but not many. Tsyan was never the type of guy to make many friends… from what he remembers.

He murdered Clotho’s (Koloss17’s character) family. It didn’t start out personal. The Ghostbloods were simply hired by an enemy of the father, and he carried out the job. Out of the family, the war veteran brother was the one who was the hardest, but Tsyan got him too. Did he have to kill the whole family? Strictly speaking… no. But a job given to Tsyan is a job well done.

    Home Planet: Alleycity

Current Residence: Run-down apartment in AlleyCity.

Backstory: Because of his abuse of Copper Feruchemy, his memories have been deliberately shattered and scattered, lacking any real connective tissue or continuity. He remembers bits of his childhood in AlleyCity, his training with the Ghostbloods, and all of his assassinations. He remembers taking mission after mission. Did he have a lover at some point? That woman, is she - no, she couldn’t be. Sister? No, someone else. PlasmaCore? Yes, something happened there. What? Not sure. Because of this, Tsyan doesn’t know what memories came from the Forgery, and what were original. The two realities may as well have been one and the same for him. More recently, he does remember growing a little older, the Ghostbloods getting a change of management and becoming the Mirrorshades, and no longer being employed for his services.

Loose ends (What is unfinished in their life?): He still has some copperminds of old memories. He is afraid to open them.

May a mod please gaze upon mine character and grant your blessing? :D

Once Malsam is done with Wickwillow, that would probably work. I'm kinda bored right now, can you give me more information on what interaction you are talking about?

I think the basic idea is that Koloss’ character has amnesia, and interacts with other characters and gradually regains their memory (through gold savantism) and realises one of them killed her family.

To be honest, I have no set plan for how the interaction will happen once the characters get together. I figure we just RP, find something to do, progress each others characters and see what happens. If it doesn’t work out, nothing lost. This is of course still tentative anyway.

  3. Hey @Koloss17, I’m thinking about making a not nice ex-Ghostblood character that could be a good antagonist to yours (at least, when yours remembers their past, who knows what the interaction could be before then). Are you still up for the idea?

Also, @EmulatonStromenkiin, if Malsam isn’t doing anything right now it would be great to also have you RP with us for this interaction (if it ends up happening).

Edit: my mistake, forgot that Malsam is in the Wickwillow thread. Still, Emulation, three is better than two ^_^ (goes for anyone else reading the thread too  :P)

Okay-I’m certain that there is some sort of thread here that can give me a breakdown of all the events that have occurred in the history of this RP, but I am having the most difficult time finding it. Can someone point me in the right direction?

As far as I know, there isn’t really a set summary of all events in the RP, more like multiple posts throughout the years that have summarised different parts. These links are outdated and cover the very broad strokes, but I hope they help. If you have any questions, the Alleyverse Discord can probably help you with the specifics.

  5. Got a character ^_^ Still not sure how active I'll be, but here it is anyway.

    Spoiler

    Name: Mavin Menton

Appearance: Muscled man, with wide eyes and golden blonde hair that's kept in a buzz cut. Clean shaven. Wears simple clothes with bright, warm colours. Has electrum earrings on each ear and a nose that looks like it's been broken far too many times.

Guild (or intended guild): None, yet.

Personality: Happy, jovial, and high in energy, yet also impatient, restless, and easily distracted. Quick to aggressiveness. A little self-confident.

    Concept: Ragtag Boxer.

Motivation (Short & long term goal): Short Term: find something to steal, someone to fight, or something else to do that will keep him occupied and not bored. Long Term: Be his own person, free from the will or control of anyone else, and free to live his life happily.

    Merits:

Major: Excellent boxer, very skilled at dodging and hitting hard in close-range. Supports this with brass knuckles.

Normal: Electrum Feruchemy (accessed via small arm bracers and earrings).

Minor: Gold Allomancy. Also, he's quite skilled at poetry.

Flaws: Mavin's pride, restlessness, and fixation on his past prevent him from ever truly feeling like he's in control of his life. In addition to a fragile ego and sense of insecurity, Mavin hates all symbols of captivity (ropes, chains, tight spaces) and will avoid them. Not really skilled in any weaponry or fighting beyond his specialty (close-quarters hand-to-hand). Constantly feeling like he has to do something leaves little time for self-reflection or self-improvement.

Relationships (Eg. Family and Friends): Father is out of the picture. Mother is a firemoss addict and cut off from Mavin. Is known by a number of people in the slums, and has a few fond faces in the criminal underground he can call on, but in general due to his recklessness has made more enemies than friends.

    Home Planet: Alleycity

Current Residence: Homeless, looking for a place to stay. His old home (the Scadrian slums in Alleycity) are no longer an option.

Backstory: A troubled youth who saw few options beyond fighting to survive. Multiple past convictions before he was picked up by a coach, taught to box, and introduced to the vast network of underground criminal fighting rings, in Alleycity and beyond. Followed his coach's every instruction and became a known threat in the ring. At his prime, he was among the top teenage boxers in the city, but the emergence of fighters with allomantic/feruchemical pewter, koloss-blood or other strength enhancements were far too much for Mavin to handle for long. He never became truly renowned. In the Forgery, Mavin's trajectory was similar but darker, with him becoming more entangled in the criminal underworld and murdering someone. He was arrested, jailed, and sentenced to death when the Forgery broke. On the streets again, Mavin is nobody.

Loose ends (What is unfinished in their life?): Mavin doesn't want to follow anyone's orders ever again. He wants to be his own person, as hard as that may be for a guy like him.

I think each Era 2 book so far is pulp inspired, but a slightly different genre/subgenre: AoL is a western, SoS is a thriller, and BoM is an Indiana Jones style adventure.

I never really considered that before, but now that you mention it, it makes sense in a way. Makes me wonder what style Lost Metal is going to be. Slipstream sci-fi? Dinosaurs? :P

  7. I’m with you there. I love Westerns and there was just something quintessentially awesome about a Mistborn Western the first time I read Alloy of Law. Miles was a super cool villain and a great way to introduce compounding. I remember really enjoying Wax’s fight with the Push/Pull agents on the rooftops, too.

I think the whole Western thing got lost slightly as the series went on, but I still heavily enjoy the other books. I actually really dug the whole Kandra thing in SoS and how it could be anyone. BoM I think I enjoyed for the implications on the wider Cosmere.

But something about Alloy of Law just feels classic to me. It’s short and sweet.

There was a small tremor, and the Quarkbeast appeared next to the Aon-drawing woman.

The sword passed through the shield easily, causing it to flicker and fizzle out, and the figure jumped back with a yell. The complex Aon remained in front of her, still only half-finished.

“You,” she pleaded to the monster that had appeared beside her, still trying to scramble back. She took out a half eaten sandwich from her pocket and tossed at the beast as a gift. “Help me. Please.”

Surely a beast like that was a sign the gods were on her side. To Marie she turned and scowled.

“I’m not underestimating you. I know precisely who you are: an invader on our territory!”

Hey, sorry everyone. If you don’t want to continue this I’m completely fine with that. Just thought I’d write a response.

The four columns of fire exploded over the ground, singing the stone and setting deep black burn marks into their surface, but not a single target was hit due to Sam’s burst of steel.

The silhouetted figure jumped from rooftop to rooftop but Marie’s surgebinding created a hole in the roof and the figure tripped, before plummeting down onto the ground a small distance from the group.

She turned back. The four had dodged the fire beams. Impossible! The figure quickly throw up an Aon Edo, creating a wall of energy as a shield, before working on a large complex Aon configuration. Whatever it was, it was large, taking time to make, and most likely wouldn’t be fun if it was completed.

“Stay back! Last chance! I won’t tell you anything!”

  10. Alask watched the group depart, a smile on his face.

When the group arrived, all that was left was a shattered and flaming rickshaw, a man of middle age burnt on the ground, injured but alive, and the silhouette of a figure on the rooftop, in dark clothing.

“Stay back!” they yelled - a female voice - and their hands began to glow as they drew a complex Aon in the air.

Four twisting columns of fire launched from the rooftop towards each of the group. The dark slums of the forge lit up and cast dark shadows as the four beams shot towards their targets.

The silhouetted figure took off, trying to jump between rooftops. She was sure her Aons would do the trick. No one had ever dodged a fire beam before.

“Tell me,” Castled said, leaning back, melding into the sway of the carriage. If they were going to be riding for the next few days, he could at least get to know his colleagues.

“How is over there? The East? Where…”

He waved his hand vaguely. “Wherever you come from, anyway.”

Alask smiled, then nodded as all four agreed. This was good. Very good.

“I’ve arranged a rickshaw to take you to the heart of the territory,” he pointed to a silhouette of a driver just beyond the gate. Briefly, flashes of golden light could be seen and screams. Alask’s eyes widened.

“I think another attack is happening.”

    @I think I am here., @Stormblessed0421, @Thaidakar the Ghostblood, @mathiau.

    Alask laughed.

“Not at all, I don’t even have Investiture.”

He shook his head. “No, I could tell by the look on your face. The way you rushed in to help that woman. I can tell an idealist when I see one.”

He raised his one hand in the air.

“Don’t worry, though. You can keep whatever you find as well. It’s only fair.”

One of them was in. That was very good news. Alask looked at the other faces.

    “And the rest of you?”

  14. Castled kept a close eye on the Forrests outside. To him, the carriage couldn’t move fast enough. With nothing to do but think, he brought out his book before he could dwell on darker thoughts.

Something Dallikar said made Castled look towards the boy, but Dallikar hadn’t been talking to him.

“You’re from far East, aren’t you?” Castled asked the young man. He’d never been. “By the coast. I hear they live differently there.”

It was the only explanation Castled could come up with at the oddness of the boy. Perhaps he was crazy. Castled didn’t mind that. They were all a little bit crazy.

Deckh sat quietly, observing all these events with an unreadably calculating expression, beginning to lessen in suspicion at these newcomers. He turned to Darien. “What exactly is it you want us to do, Darien? Don’t know about my friends here, but I sure take a job more willingly if I’ve got all the info. Or if there’s something in it for me…

"You want info?" Alask asked, leaning against the gate. He ran a hand through his hair, then sighed. He hadn't put up those posters up so they could all sit around discussing. Behind him, the the two men who had been gambling carried the woman away, red staining their clothes. With them gone, it was only Alask and the four newcomers left.

He stood up straighter and addressed them all.

"You may be wondering what just happened, or why I put those 'help wanted' posters up," he said. He turned to gesture to where the woman had been carried off to. "She is why we need help. She is a victim, and not the first we've had."

Alask tried his best to sound impassioned. His left arm still remained hidden beneath the cloak.

"A week ago," he said. "We started experiencing attacks in the Forge area. Vandalism. Theft. Murder. We believe it's some sort of new gang, and that they've made a hideout in an abandoned warehouse deeper in the slums. we don't know their numbers or their Investiture, but we know they're deadly."

He paused for a moment, sighed, then met the eyes of each of the four.

"The Forge is a brilliancy," he said. "What I've we've – been able to do for the first time is give these homeless people reliable, shelter, food and electricity. We've cleaned the water supply, provided them safety. These attacks threaten to undo all of that. Dealing with them will be dangerous. That being said..."

He turned to look at Sam.

"If you choose to help us, you will be saving innocent lives."

    He turned towards Darien.

"If you choose to help, I will tell you what I know about my... friend."

He turned to Deckh, the calm-as-ice assassin who seemed to be smarter than he appeared. Then he looked to the latest arrival, a woman who knew Darien and stared at Alask in a way that made him uncomfortable. She, too, was more than what met the eye.

"And for the rest of you," he said. "If you choose to remove this threat for me, as a reward, I'll allow you to keep anything you raid off of the hideout. The Forge has no need for tools of destruction."

Alask stilled, having said his plea. He looked to each of the four again, tried to gauge their reactions. This was the critical moment.

"So," he said, shrugging with his right shoulder. "What do you say?"

    That’s alright :)

“Obviously not,” Alask hissed at the newcomer, but gestured to his companions to lower their weapons.

“Hutch! Westan! Get this woman to a doctor,” Alask ordered two of the men who were gambling. They scrambled beside the woman. Alask looked up at Sam and the other two newcomers.

“Everything is not alright.” He looked exhausted. “That’s why I put those posters up. If we don’t do something, more innocents will end up like her.”

Hmm. Okay, I thought about it, and I think I know a way. :D

Their conversation was interrupted by a scream from the darkness. Alask turned sharply towards the direction of sound before a figure came tumbling out of the shadows towards the group.

They were a woman, wrapped in a shawl and running faster than her legs could carry her. She tumbled over the ground in front of the group and Alask knelt down beside her.

Her clothes were stained unnaturally red. When she reached out for someone to help her, her hand dripped red, little drops landing on the stone in front of them.

“Shadows,” Alask muttered, kneeling down beside her.

    “Help… me,” she groaned.

“Should we set off?” he asked, suddenly anxious to get moving. He looked to Scarred. “The further we get before nightfall, the better, right?”
