  1. Wow, just finished. Can't believe Yalb was Odium.
  2. I agree with you. The discovery of something new in one of Brandon's stories is always better when you have the story actually with it. Like the mystery surrounding the eleventh metal was pretty cool.
  3. I thought of saying about the slow-mo cgi earlier, but I don't think you'd actually need special effects for that, you'd just change the speed of the tape or disc at that point. The first point is a good one though, as I'm sure many people can say how hard it is to learn a motion at full speed.
  4. I wonder if the alloys of atium and larasium will be related to the pair in the powers they give, or if they'll each be relatively new. Either way I think it will be great to see the new metals in later trilogies
  5. I never knew the difference between the honorblades and dawnshards. Or are they the same? And yeah at the time of reading that passage about Jost's father I thought his dad was obviously lying, but seeing Kaladin managed to win a shardblade with hardly any stormlight that seems a reasonable theory.
  6. I think so, though I'm guessing theres some sort of minimum size something has to be for a speed bubble to stick to it, or maybe some other sort of prerequisite
  7. yeah yeah devotion is the opposite of dominion in this case, though, and i'm thinking theres probably another similar one to devotion that is the counterpart of odium
  8. I think someone already mentioned Christian Bale as Kelsier, but even though hes a bit young I think he'd make a great Wax if an Alloy of Law film was made - on the Tor cover Wax even looks a bit like him
  9. I'm guessing theres a 'love' or 'virtue' to counteract odium
  10. Stormlight is amazing but Hoid has always been the ultimate mystery of the cosmere. I can't wait to find out how he came to become such an interstellar stalker
  11. I wouldn't say cultivation was good, sort of neutral. Plus I don't think its just in numbers, odium is intensely evil while the 'good' ones are all admittedly good but they don't have a pure trait of virtue defining them. The most virtuous is probably preservation.
  12. Maybe, maybe not. I doubt there would be the element of speed and racing that was in the plateau assaults, but that doesn't mean the bridges aren't still useful. Sadeas' new bridgemen could speed ahead and his troops could act as a vanguard unit for the whole army (or maybe actually trusting Sadeas with something isn't a good idea )
  13. As you know I already think this is a great idea. At the moment it looks pretty much correct; if you combined the shards that we know about at the moment you'd have one damnation evil being. But there is the problem that we don't know all of the shard traits yet, so maybe the later ones will balance this and also bring some new pairs of traits in.
  14. Will do, hadn't thought about that.
  15. So on the poll above you can choose which power out of Brandon's current books you would most like to be able to use. Obviously that doesn't really lead into much interesting discussion in the thread, so here is another question: What do you think would be the most useful power to yourself and/or society?
  16. I'm honoured to be a chosen critic of something as thought through as this
  17. I remember the rock formations has that distinct symmetry, so maybe its something to do with the nature of Honor
  18. Is that a confirmed fact? If it isn't then I assume the same physics of the bubble which causes projectiles at high speeds to go awry when entering a bubble would apply the same for a body exiting at high speeds: the trajectory would alter to a different direction and (if you were lucky or skilled) you could exit at 30 m/s say, parallel to the ground.
  19. Ok I declare this thread now becomes the magic of palindromes and the magic of ten! Yeah theres definitely lots of tens on Roshar: the heralds, knights readiant, silver kingdoms, stormlight gems and probably quite a few more I can't think of. It'll be interesting to see why there is a significance on 10 instead of 16 (though if I was Brandon I wouldn't want all my books based around the same number with the same patterned magic system). EDIT: And thanks for showing me that thread Voldy, some of the Keteks there are brilliant. I might have a go at my own
  20. I am obsolete
  21. Pulser bubbles are big so one might cover the whole distance, plus you could always put up multiple bubbles while falling. Obviously inside the bubble you would be falling at relatively normal speed so I think it would only work if you left a bit of space before the floor, where you would suddenly slow down and hit the floor as if you had only fallen a few feet.
  22. We can see throughout the Way of Kings many of the lighteyes and other important names are a perfect or near-perfect palindrome (for anyone who doesn't know what a palindrome is, its a word or number that is the same backwards or forwards). As well as this, one of the most revered Vorin poems is a Ketek - a poem that is the same backwards as forwards and is poignant in meaning. Something that displays itself in as many ways is probably similar to the 'magic sixteen' seen in the Hero of Ages. Obviously we know why sixteen was such an important number, but what are your thoughts on the significance of the palindrome on Roshar? And also if anyone is really amazing it would be great to see some Keteks too, though they don't have to mean anything special. It would be great to see some comedic ones
  23. I really love this theory lightflame. Its one of the few I've seen thats properly turned my own views on plot point and progression in BS books around. So thanks, I guess
  24. The central dominance, near birmingham. What about you?
  25. Wow I only know one guy in real life who's read Brandon's books, its great to find some more Brits here
