  1. I'm not saying its a bad idea, it would probably work very well if put in the situation, I'd like to support the fact, however, that Dalinar is an excellent war tactician and out of all of us he probably knows best
  2. It would be an interesting twist if Adonalsium was actually evil and broken into the sixteen on purpose.
  3. The chull-driven bridges were huge so Dalinar's men could use them as cover. If you used small bridges with armoured men, the Parshendi would not just focus on the bridges and Dalinar's spearmen would have no moving cover to use.
  4. I think thats something people, including me, have really been ignoring about Roshar: cultivation's presence. When talking about spren, highstorms and the voidbringers, most people focus on Honor and Odium, as they are the most present in the environment. What we really have to remember is that cultivation, too, is a sixteenth of the power of creation, and is therefore also going to have a large effect on her home planet.
  5. While Ruin and Preservation are exact opposites, not all of the other shards have counterparts to each other. That means that Adonalsium (if they could think like a person) would not be a completely neutral force - it would have a personality that tilts in very obvious directions. When all sixteen shards are revealed, it'll be interesting to add them all together (obviously ones like Ruin and Preservation cancel themselves out) and see God's resulting personality.
  6. The problem with Gavilar's unity of Alethkar was that it wasn't based around anything except Gavilar, Dalinar and Sadeas ctrushing the other highprinces into submission. A kingdom built on blood would easily break apart (and as we can see from Kaladin's time in Amaram's army, it already is). What Alethkar really needs is something to unite against. After all, Alethkar culture all the way to the Alethela is based around war, what better way to get them all together by having a common enemy? Of course, as we saw on the shattered plains, the highprinces are still very much separated. At this point, we just bring in Dalinar Kholin (who in the thread is referred to as Honor's chosen leader, or something like that) to become highprince of war and finally, properly unite them.
  7. Hi everyone, I'm Straff Venture and just wanted to introduce myself to anyone who hasn't already come across me on the forums. I'm one of the less common British readers, having read all the BS books except Alcatraz (I am yet to read Legion but plan on doing so). I'm a frequent poster and would like to contribute to the 17th Shard as much as I can. See you around PS: poison doesn't work on me.
  8. On the previous comment I meant devotion, its getting late over in the UK so i'm a bit slow
  9. If ores replenish as theorised earlier in the thread, there is no reason why the allomantic metals could not work as currency in the Final Empire. On Roshar, we see gemstones which are used practically (in soulcasting and lighting) as well as being currency. I think this would actually be a benefit for the people of the Final Empire, as if in the case of a catastrophe of resources (a global recession), the coins would still be useful in a barter economy because of their allomantic effects.
  10. Feruchemic brass is warmth, which would be really useful to make yourself cool on a hot day and warm on a cold day. In non-everyday life, it would probably be useful for a whole host of other things too.
  11. If you were besieging somewhere you could pass the time much quicker in a pulser bubble
  12. I would say that in the long run the power of a shard is infinite, but only so much power can be invested from it at any one point. This might explain why allomancy is naturally designed to dilute in power over time (and before anyone says, I know that even when there are lots of allomancers, like in the events of the Mistborn trilogy, there can still be allomancers as powerful as the first generation, such as Elend and TLR).
  13. How come Cultivation and Dominion were splintered? Or does nobody know?
  14. I admit relating the thrill to stormlight is a very long shot
  15. It might actually be useful in a defensive combat role. A pulser could pop up a bubble to cover an entrance, any enemy coming through would be going extremely slowly.
  16. I think you're underestimating feruchemy. An ironmind would allow a feruchemist to travel through the sky while filling up their mind to use in another situation when they need to be heavy, such as when an allomancer is trying to push or pull them. And while pewter lasts a lot longer than a pewterminds strength, a feruchemists wouldnt need to stay strong for long if they got strong enough to crush the allomancer in one blow. But don't get me wrong, I'm glad to see people valuing allomancy as a powerful magic system too
  17. The Letter states that Skai is dead, that much we know. When having a conversation on another thread about Jaddeth's possible awakening in future Elantris novels, something struck me that seemed very obvious. We were discussing how when Jaddeth was dead how he was supposed to be formed as a shard again. But then I remembered that a shard does not break when its holder is killed, and Odium certainly did not take the shard for himself (as to not have his odeous personality taken from his bearer). Skai's death occured hundreds of years before the events of Elantris: so what if a man called Jaddeth was the first to the scene of Skai's death at the hands Odium, and took the power for himself, making his own religion afterwards? This seems very much possible. The exact same scenario occured when Sazed was at the scene of the clash of Ati and Vin, which caused him to take up the power of both shards and become harmony. I believe that Jaddeth and Skai are almost definitely different people, each having held Dominion at a different time.
  18. If it does happen, please don't let it be another Eragon...
  19. I'm not absolutely sure but are you saying that each magic system has a power source from its home planet, and that you believe any of the magic systems could be powered by any of the planets. So surgebinding could be powered biochroma on nalthis if done correctly? Personally I think its a long shot, but still quite an interesting idea with a big impact on the cosmere if its correct.
  20. if youre doing useful IRL metals, it would probably be mechanisms involving coinshots and lurchers. But thats on a fleeting thought, so you might think of some others
  21. I doubt if Dominion rises it would be for the benefit of the cosmere, as out of the 16 dominion is one of three 'bad' shards we know about already, albeit not as blatantly evil as Ruin or Odium. And each of the shards has different traits that affect its state. Who knows? Maybe when Dominion achieves full 'dominion' from his followers on Sel, he might rise again.
  22. In all honesty I hadn't thought of the reason for Odium's power, I just assumed he had a larger shard. You're probably right but I just want to bring some other possibilities to the table.
  23. Well stormlight comes from the highstorms, and the 'everstorm' is supposedly something bad on par with the true desolation which would obviously be caused by odium and the voidbringers. Its not certain, but I think that the highstorms (and therefore stormlight) are the equivalent of preservation's mists and Ruin's ash. I don't see why stormlight can't be originally of Odium and still a source of power used for good EDIT: And Observer, I would say Honor's equivalent of the highstorms (or his worldly embodiment, so to speak), is the spren. These are not as obviously affecting on Roshar because Honor has less raw power than Odium.
