Maybe the shardplate thrill, if it affects kaladin too, is actually 'the use of stormlight to enhance yourself' thrill, and therefore anyone using stormlight to power their own physical skills is affected by the thrill. Sorry if thats a bit hard to understand, I didn't word that well.

Yeah there has got to be some sort of twist with Jaddeth, its pretty obvious from Derethi religious doctrine and its strict system that he is dominion. But dominion was killed by Odium. I think it would be epic to see a God rise from its own ashes.

I think a battle as titanic as this one would be an incredible read, but the hemalurgist's sheer ability to just destroy any opposition with impunity would be seriously overpowered and wouldn't work with any plot. As Sanderson's second law states, limitations>powers for any successful story

In the introduction to this thread I was also seeing what each of the arts could do at their absolute limits, no matter the cost: (Duraluminum savant, feruchemical lifestorer and hemalurgic hedgehog)

Origin of Humans and Voidbringers
Straff Venture replied to Straff Venture's topic in Stormlight Archive
That might be what the everstorm is, similar to how the ash in HoA started coming all the time and blocking out the Sun and choking the plants, where there will be a highstorm that simply doesn't end. In this case only surgebinders with a lot of spheres would be able to move around. -
Thats pretty cool and lucky, for a second I thought you meant it was the first WoK ever printed but yeah good for you

Thats interesting actually, maybe shardplate is similar to hemalurgic spikes for someone with the power to take control of them. Might explain the knights radiant giving up their shards.

Just a bad joke -
Okay, in the scenario there are no 'lord ruler twinborns' or other amalgamations of the metallic arts, as this will just confuse the end result (though its probably wise for me to acknowledge hemalurgy naturally going with one of the other two for maximum power). Which is the most powerful of the metallic arts? Each has its advantages and disadvantages so in aid of an organised thread opening, I will talk about each art separately. This thread is basically seeing what each of the arts could do at its limit. Feruchemy Advantages - Its excellent ability to delay the release of an attribute and release it all in a chosen amplification makes feruchemy one of the most rawly powerful of Sanderson's magic systems at any one point. Say if a feruchemist was to literally spend the first forty years of their life intensively storing attributes in their metalminds and were then sent into battle, they could literally do anything, and for quite a long time too. The variety of these powers would mean they were almost invincible in every way. Disadvantages - It is VERY costly to the person in question. For feruchemy to be as ridiculously powerful as said, the feruchemist would have to spend a large portion of their life in a physically and mentally disabled state. I doubt many people would be willing to devote their life to this, and anyone who argues because they can store age and therefore live forever is wrong, because they could only live double their normal life expectancy (live as an old man for their whole life and then spend another lifetime like that, but that would be a pretty miserable life anyway. Only compounders are immortal). Hemalurgy Advantages - While Marsh was already an incredibly powerful inquisitor (with only twenty spikes and only being a bronze allomancer before his transformation), in a chapter in HoA, Marsh states that there are hundreds of different points on the body where hemalurgic spikes can be placed for effect. This could create a hemalurgic super soldier (credit to someone else on this forum for that term, sorry I can't remember where I saw it) with allomantic and feruchemic powers, capable of surpassing even the feruchemical superpowers previously mentioned. Disadvantages - The sheer cost of all the power needed for this kind of super soldier is staggering. To have hundreds of allomancers and feruchemists killed for the powers of one person would likely be out of the question in a real-story situation. Also, though I'm not completely sure about this, if inquisitors were the easiest to influence by rioting and soothing with their large amount of spikes, an inquisitor with hundreds of spikes could be taken in by the lightest of touches. Allomancy Advantages - It is certainly the cheapest of the powers mentioned, needing only flakes of metal instead of a life devoted. To take into 'overdrive mode' like I have done with the other powers simply requires the consumption of duraluminum. So basically if an allomancer has a large supply of duraluminum and the other they can become seriously powerful. Over time, allomancy is much more cost effective. Disadvantages - It is quite obviously the weakest of the three in raw power. Unlike the other two, it is trapped in a finite amount of power that can be released at any one point. This means it would have no chance against either of the other two in battle, hemalurgy even having the same powers as allomancy just at a much higher level. So what do you think, judging these different factors? I personally think feruchemy is the best, as it has the ability to become virtually invincible without having to turn into a glorified metal hedgehog who could be taken in an instant by any soother. I don't expect many people to read it all, but I hope you enjoy

Well all my hopes and dreams have already been fulfilled in my son Elend... just kidding

Yeah thats a great idea, +1 from me. I would love to see a purely cosmere book from the view of Hoid, or maybe some of the greater powers of the cosmere, like Sazed or the leader of the 17th Shard.

Thanks Hmm I can imagine if the Parshendi are naturally situated on Roshar reproduction must be a job with that carapace. Imagine trying to have sex in armour. -

Thanks, I've been trying to get my first plus for five days now By the way, this is off topic from the thread but does anyone know how to get those gold marks below your name and how to join the various factions? (ardentia, worldsingers etc.) -
Ah, my mistake there.

Returned cannot interbreed, in Warbreaker they mate with humans and don't produce offspring. -
You have to remember though that not everyone in an allomantic line is an allomancer, so its doubtful theyd be able to keep everyone in the world with an allomantic relative less than six generations above them.

How do all of you want to see Brandon's various books and their worlds develop and conclude? You can post anything as far-fetched as you want but it would be great to see other people's theories on how the books will progress and hopefully see some stuff I hadn't thought of. I'll admit I haven't read the Wheel of Time but this thread is for everyone's discussion, not just my own

Origin of Humans and Voidbringers
Straff Venture replied to Straff Venture's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree, even if my theory isn't right Shinovar misses two things; Spren and Highstorms. Those are the two single things that shape Roshar and The Way of Kings to how it is. Shinovar is definitely going to have some significance because of this. -
Kurk said she was likely Shalash and Shalash is a herald. I'm not sure it ever mentions her name more than once but one of the ten numbers is 'Shash' and each one corresponds to a herald

Anyone who has read the Stormlight Archive can see that the creatures of Roshar (excluding Shinovar) are all shelled in some form, even if they may have an 'Earth equivalent', such as axehounds and dogs. The only species of animals and plants that are from Earth are only present in Shinovar. Except humans. Humans are present across all of Roshar. This seems simple: the humans of Roshar first came from Shinovar and when intelligent enough to build shelter against the highstorms in Roshar they migrated into the rest of the continent. *SPOILERS* When thinking about this, my mind thought about another shelled race that had not occured to me before: the Voidbringers/Parshmen. Though they are always said not to be humans, their similar physiology implies a connection. What if the Parshmen are simply the non-Shinovar evolved counterparts to humans on Roshar? This does not explain why they are the Voidbringers, however. Perhaps they evolved as a species and later Odium used them to fight in the desolations. Thoughts?

Not that anything else you say isn't valid, but the thrill is just a part of the Alethi warlike personality. Sadeas speaks to Dalinar about the thrill, implying almost certainly he has felt it, and Sadeas only owns plate, not a shardblade

Motivation, Execution, Consequence: A Realmatic Theory
Straff Venture replied to Kurkistan's topic in Cosmere Discussion
You asked me to take a look so here I am I think its a great theory that makes sense with the Cosmere so far, but what are your thoughts on why some shard powers involve travelling to shadesmar (eg soulcasting) while others don't? Do you think its the strength of the magic system or maybe just the systems nature?- 134 replies
