  1. "Erryin, what exactly did you do to make that copy of mine?" said Bacon in a low voice. "Because there's only one reason I can think of that would explain what I'm seeing. And I don't like it." "The Plotblade? Well, it can only be wielded by the protagonist."
  2. "Certainly! Ask away." Selene's eyes widened. "Whoa! So you travel the Dark Forest? What's it like?" "...Selene?" Bacon finally managed. She turned. Her eyebrows furrowed. "Do I know you?" Bacon blinked, bewildered. "I- well, no," he stammered. "I just, uh, happened to know a Selene once. That looked, er, very much like you." "Wow!" said Selene. "What a strange coincidence! Maybe it's fate!" Bacon flinched at the final word, almost imperceptibly.
  3. "My name is Selene!" said the young woman. Bacon, in the background, made a choking sound. "Are you new here?" asked Selene.
  4. "Oh!" said a voice. A young woman of about 18 hurried over. She extended a hand to help Erryn to their feet. "Are you hurt?"
  5. "Well," mused Bacon, "I simply haven't been to this place in a very long time, is all." He stepped forward, waving his hand as he did so, and they moved. Suddenly, they stood amidst the clatter of cart-wheels on cobblestones and the shouts of merchants peddling their wares. "A very long time indeed," murmured Bacon, a curious expression on his face.
  6. "I'll keep that in mind," said Bacon, also looking around. The setting seemed to be fairly traditional fantasy kingdom. A castle sat atop a large hill- almost a small mountain, really- surrounded by a dense and dark forest. Houses spilled forth beneath the castle, covering the mountainside with a vibrant tapestry of humanity. The group stood atop an adjoining mountaintop, viewing the kingdom from afar. "Hmm," remarked Bacon. "Interesting that I would come here, of all places." Bacon choked. "Uh... excuse me, what do you mean by self-control?" Bacon stared at Rebus for a long moment. "You're serious?" he said. "Well, $#!*" "Cricket!" exclaimed Bacon joyfully. "Long time, no see! How has it been?" "I already have my protections all planned out!" exclaimed Bacon.
  7. "Excellent! Off we are, then!" Bacon teleported himself and Erryn to the location of the tracker. Bacon decided that Malevolence would be more useful building the vault than gallivanting. He didn't really seem like a gallivanter. Bacon nodded and smiled. "Thank you," said Bacon humbly.
  8. "Well, I've determined our first adventure: locating this wayward clone of mine. Also, how do you not know where he went? Did he just disappear?"
  9. Bacon blinked. "You want to accompany me on my adventures?" "Ah. Well, I was thinking of locking myself up in a castle so no one could get to me." Bacon choked. "You what? Why can't I detect them?" "Hey, that sounds like a great idea! Sure, let's do that." "No need. There's only one reason to want it, specifically."
  10. "Sure, we'll go with that. And I can be near lots of people!"
  11. "Alright," said Bacon. "Will do!... say, you don't mean anything weird by 'proper safety precautions', do you?" "Well," said the wind, "I can't make it too easy, can I?"
  12. "Well, yeah." Bacon scratched his head. "That's what I'm already doing. Locking it up so no one can get it. And it sounds like that's your plan, too. But wouldn't you have the same problem? Everybody knows about it, so they'll try and get it from you." The wind almost sounded like a chuckle. "I am always willing... for the right price." Should be 2 Ns.
  13. "I mean, that's all well and good," said Bacon, scratching his head, "but I really don't see how your plan is any different from mine. Or Sequence's, for that matter." "Hey!" said Bacon. "I'm right here, y'know."
  14. "Why should I trust you more than me to keep it safe?" asked Bacon warily.
  15. Bacon didn't dignify that with a verbal response. He did, however, play four long, sad trombone notes. In a dignified manner, of course. "No, I knew," grumbled Bacon. "And I wanted to keep it a secret so that people wouldn't try to come after me for it. Well, I suppose that ship has sailed! Now that you know, are you reconsidering your deal with Rebus?"
  16. "I can't do that. Just trust me, its bad!" "Well, I disagree with your disagreement. So there." Bacon refrained from sticking his tongue out, as he was a refined and polished individual. "Wait, what?" said Bacon, bewildered. "What do you mean? How would that be possible?" A moment later. "Aw, dangit, now everyone knows." Bacon sighed. "I would if I could," he grumbled. "But according to Onyx, it would just appear randomly somewhere else." "Well, I think I trust Sequence more than you! I do kind of trust myself more, though."
  17. "Cool," said Bacon. "Then I'm not giving it to you." "You're an Author," pointed out Bacon. "How in the world am I supposed to do something you can't?"
  18. Bacon furrowed his brow. "What do you mean?" "Why do you want it so badly?"
  19. Bacon sighed. "An organization that keeps people safe. The paper is dangerous!... well, I guess the paper itself isn't dangerous. I guess you could get a paper cut?" Bacon pulled out the paper and ran it along his finger. "Ow," he said. "Well, I guess the paper itself is as dangerous as a piece of paper. But the information on the paper is way more dangerous than that!" "Bound to happen? Surely not..."
  20. "So... do you know what that paper does? Because... well, let me put it this way: it is not OSHA certified."
  21. I was busy I'm sorry "Ask away, I suppose," said Bacon, somewhat unnerved. "W-why would you need that?" said Bacon, looking suddenly pale.
  22. Bacon looked around furtively. He felt a vague sense of unease... But he couldn't say exactly why.
