  1. "Like, are these sentences referring to one person or two?" continued Gerald. "Because it sounds like it's all talking about one hero, but there's two different pronouns used."
  2. Gerald scratched his head. "This is odd," he said. "I've seen prophecies that were cryptic, but never one this... confusing."
  3. "You do not know the half of what I have done," growled the Wyrn. "What has been neccessary to do. A fractured world would never be strong enough to make these choices." He stood up. "If you refuse to join me, then so be it. I will, of course, be keeping your soldiers - they shall serve me far better where they are."
  4. "I had hoped," said the Wyrn, "that this meeting would help you understand. See the importance of being unified, now that the fate of the world is on our shoulders."
  5. "What if I ask that you and your army return and become loyal to this kingdom once more?"
  6. "What tricks do you have that you think could defeat creatures that warp reality itself?"
  7. Wyrn chuckled slightly. "Your abilities- extensive though they may be- are only of this world. These creatures will not play by your rules. You would be lucky to survive an encounter with even one of these creatures, let alone defeat every single one."
  8. "You don't need me to - what? Fight?" The Wyrn snorted. "Not everyone is as talented as you are, daughter. Your soldiers will die if they try and fight these creatures. Would you condemn them to that for the sake of pride?"
  9. "Why would I need to?" asked the Wyrn. "I'm not the one who's hiding. Nor am I the one proposing doing so in the future. You saw what happened to the people who hid." Above, the silver flames still burned.
  10. The Wyrn snorted. "You said, 'We have to work together,' did you not? You understand how foolish it would be to continue your vendetta against me now, correct?"
  11. Gerald's eyebrow twitched at the mistakes in grammar.
  12. "Daughter, I do not think you understand." The Wyrn steepled his fingers. "You have resisted my attempts to unify the world for years, hindering and frustrating me at every stroke. It is I who have championed unity and pushed this empire to the corners of the globe, preparing us for this day. Now why, when even you can see the folly of rebellion, do you think you have any right to make demands of me?
  13. Gerald shrugged. "That's what the peasants said." "If it's opposing our goals, it's antagonistic! That's the definition!"
  14. "We want to escape," grumbled Gerald. "And you want to keep us here. That makes you, by definition, an antagonist."
  15. Above, silver flashed violently as the fox tore through a crowd. Some tried to hide- but the fire washed over and consumed them. Some tried to fight- but their blades only melted as they swung. Many ran, trying to outrace the swath of destruction left by the fox. Some even succeeded. The Wyrn gaze fixated on Herate, his eyes full of reflected silver. "As I said," he replied simply. "One of the weakest."
  16. "Well- sure- but..." Gerald threw his tentacles up in frustration. "He isn't an antagonist, is he? He can't oppose our motivations because he doesn't have motivations!"
