  1. "We need to find who gave that prophecy," said Gerald. "Q?" @Mystic Syn
  2. Psyder extended his hand. Darkness warped around the metal object, obscuring it from view. A moment later, it was gone. "Three seconds," he said simply. "I would advise you not to try anything of that sort again," said Psyder, his voice chillingly calm. "It will be longer, next time." @Ookla the Grammatical
  3. "I can't read," said Gerald glumly. "Or write, for that matter. So I can't sign it."
  4. "How interesting indeed," replied Psyder. "Even more interesting that you would think the same. Only one of us knows everything about their enemy- the other knows nothing. Only one of us has a hostage ready to die at dawn - which, incidentally, is only a few minutes away. Only one of us has a plan." He leaned in. "And it isn't you."
  5. Psyder looked at the blades with interest. "You can try," he repeated. "If you're willing to bet your friend's life on your ability to inspire fear."
  6. "Iit seems rather likely I could order him killed in the time it would take you to do the same to me," said Psyder mildly. "Of course, you're welcome to try, if you're willing to bet your friend's life otherwise."
  7. Psyder laughed. "Don't try too hard," he teased. "We wouldn't want to have to kill him prematurely to keep him out of your hands, would we? That would be no fun."
  8. Psyder shrugged. "What do the specifics matter?" he said carelessly. "All that matters is that he can't leave here alive without our consent."
  9. "Yes," said the Doctor. "Take him away from here, he dies. Kill me, and he dies with me."
  10. "How do you know there aren't more?" asked Psyder. "Invisible, or dimensionally adjacent, or simply hiding..." His smiled deepened. "Who knows? Maybe even within your little group." "Haha," said the Doctor, his voice devoid of inflection. "I don't think either of those will be an option." He gestured towards Daolan. "I'm currently keeping him alive, you see."
  11. Psyder grinned as Hareon walked in. The dim torchlight illuminated his face from beneath, giving it an even more eerie cast. "What," he said, somewhat mockingly, "you don't think I'm good enough?" The Doctor's eyes flickered between the newcomers, his mouth twitching in what might have been a smile. He did not respond.
  12. "You know," said Gerald, "you really shouldn't be taking this up with us."
  13. As the group reaches the top of the wall, they continue to avoid alerting any guard to their presence.
  14. "That's not what I heard you say," grumbled Gerald. "A clear transition," said Gerald. "And's who's making these complaints, anyhow?"
  15. "Yes, of course," said Gerald, exasperated, "but the point was, that has nothing to do with the quality of the prophecy!"
  16. "Then what are you doing questioning us about group dynamics?" queried Gerald. "If you could direct us to the issuer of said prophecy, we can resolve the issue ourselves."
  17. X wondered if it was really that time of the year already.
