  1. Umm... er.... Oh, oh, she has an awesome spren!... Yeah.
  2. https://www.goodreads.com/choiceawards/best-fantasy-books-2017 Am I the only one that finds it a shame that potterheads have so much sway in such things? I knew it was a long shot for oathbringer, but I was hoping.
  3. I was wondering what everyone's theories were on the weeping as it relates to . It seems to me like it is a necessary period of rest for the highstorm's because they noted in oathbringer that the weeping seemed to last longer this year and I think that has to be related to the forced highstorm during the weeping. (I would quote it in here for you but I don't have the ebook ) I'm almost wondering if the weeping is just a way for most of the stormlight to get relocated back into the spiritual (or maybe even into the cognitive) realm and build pressure there which is released throughout the rest of the year. I do feel that this theory is a bit weak though considering some WoB's that i linked below. But I would like your guys thoughts and theories.
  4. I suspected right as the men keep talking about azures secret and as soon as I saw it was a woman who knew how to handle a sword I was basically positive
  5. A couple of theories. The first and I think most likely is the desire to kill. Kaladin when he kills he does it to protect people without exception that I can think of, maybe the only exception is when he goes and kills the lighteyes at the beginning of the first book. Most people that have the thrill are agressing or have some end goal which usually involves killing the end goal. Even Szeth who is killing tons of people to get to someone to kill doesnt show signs of the thrill and I think that is because he doesnt have the desire to. The next somewhat weaker theory I think is that because Kaladin saves lives it has less or no effect on him.
  6. I guess I am really glad I joined this site when I did. I use Reddit and I enjoy it but I get downvoted a lot, because I am pretty honest about the way I feel about things and if it isn't the way someone else feels then they downvote me to show me that they disagree. That means I dont post a different opinion because I dont want to get downvoted and then it turns into groupthink so Quickly. So I am a huge fan and Im glad it was like this when I joined caue i would probably be negative karma right now for my feelings on Moash
  7. I actually kind of enjoy him because if nothing else he acts as a watermark. He was the Height of power you could not aspire to be anything more than him in the first book and most of the second sense he was a shard bearer. But now with the Radiants coming back I have found it interesting to see him react to not only react to the voidringers coming back but also much more of a supporting role rather than the head honcho. I wish they dived into this a bit more into the books and why he might be feeling a bit of a inferiority complex. And he is by no means perfect. He accused his father of going mad wrongly and causing dalinar a LOT of doubt. He killed sadeas and probably allowed Odium to take over sadeas troops by doing so. Is he the most exciting character? No. but he doesn't need to be Sometimes you just need the prince who has been given everything in life in a book.
  8. You came to a thread entitled [OB] Shallan Davar disgust thread and you didnt feel comfortable reading all the hate?
  9. Thanks for Sharing Chaos, I suppose it makes sense that Brandon wants to appeal to a large portion of people so his feedback group would be much more diverse in opinion than what we experience here.
  10. yay for me!! hmmm maybe ill just scan pages and put them in quotes haha
  11. This is actually a super good point... something I haven't really thought about. In actuality Shallan has accomplished some INSANELY impressive things. But she still thinks she is a failure because she isn't perfect. She is like the student in one of my college courses where the average test grade was a 65 with a one point curve but she is arguing on why her 99% test should have her point back because only her shortcomings matter to her. It's a really good point but I'm not sure if in her current mental state if she single handed defeated Odium if it would matter much to her.
  12. I actually have no desire to read era 1.5 (or 2 or whatever) books again and I enjoyed Mistborn 1 but less than all of brandons other works. I dont think the Ending to WoT makes the book series worth the read.
  13. Besides the victories which SomeRandomPeasant mentioned, she has driven off the unmade in the tower, communicated with a second one enough to have it not try to kill them, has pictures that document new undiscovered corrupted spren, as well as the true nature of spren in the cognitive realm. All of this together basically guarantees that she will be one of the most quoted and referenced scholars of this age along with her previous achievements. Then to Top it all off she has two of the most eligible/BA bachelors in Roshar mooning over her. I think she is doing just fine.
  14. This is a big thing for me too. To me this illustrated even if she tried to make multiple personalities, They dont know more that the whole on a subject, They still will have blind spots that someone who has lived a privileged life would have, even if you are pretending to be a dark eyed thief.
  15. Hmm that is interesting now that you put it like that. It seems like Automation really does investin sources other than humans anyways right. I mean most of the investiture is in the sands in the White sands book ( I havent read the prose version yet mainly cause i dont know where to find it so im not sure) right? And now the investiture is definately in the Aviar but possibly other plants and animals too.
  16. Hahaha this definitely made me laugh, but I am actually rereading it right now because over all i enjoyed it and man it has a lot of content to digest.
  17. Dang now I'm really wishing I created this in the OB spoiler board...
  18. Dang I posted this in the short stories board too super exciting stuff!
  19. I didnt see this WoB being discussed anywhere yet but this comes from the London Signing and is on Arcanum What do you guys think about this? Do you think it was originally one of the 16 or it ended up there somehow?
  20. To be honest I laugh at her jokes all the time... That being said Shallan is probably one of my least favorite characters but for a different reason, I dont feel she is poorly written but I feel like she is slipping backwards in so many ways with the multiple personalities and I just want her to "get it". The way she blames anything that makes her feel uncomfortable on one of her other personalities (Veil is the one that likes Kaladin) bugs me.
  21. So this is super off topic but the thread kind of has changed topics anyways, but how do you guys quote sections of the book? do you have to type it out or is there a way to do it I dont know about?
  22. I actually like moash and I will admit, some of his chapters I felt like could use some work, but I really hope to see some redemption from him and a bit more caring. However I think that is part of what is interesting is he is trying not to think about what he has done because it is still hard for him to aceept how he betrayed bridge 4 and Kaladin.
  23. Hmmm ok This actually is something that didn't occur to me. People keep saying that she betrayed her people And I dont buy that because it wasnt her intent to harm her people. However she definitely keeps preserving that spren, she meets with Dalinar against her will but doesn't tell Odium about it afterwards, Yeah I can believe that she is a traitor to the forces of Odium I believe that.
  24. Lets look at the blurb on the way of kings. Like you said the people we are talking about are pretty straight forward. But by the end of this book how many of these "paints a clear path towards each Radiant". depends what you mean by radiant but Only two have an existing bond by the end of the book. By the end of Oathbringer we know all 4 of these have a bond and would be considered radiant, So we could argue they talk about people that are on the path to radiance, but if Moash doesn't have a bond with something that gives him power before the end of the series I will eat some horns or shells. As for how clear their writing is if someone can tell me which of the 4 "may redeem us" and which "will destroy us" that would be awesome. I would ask why can't it be ambitious to achieve vengeance? The oxford dictionary defines ambition as A strong desire to do or achieve something. If trying to kill the King of Alethkar isn't ambitious I don't know what is. The legal definition of treason is the following Yes Venli might have caused the destruction of her people. But it was not her Intent to do so. She was trying to find a way to preserve her people. When Others of her people got taken over she was truly saddened.
  25. This is what really stood out to me too. Because of Kaladin the squires know there is a progression, that there is more, and that they should seek it. I mean in the first two books kaladin goes to just discovering there is a bond to then slowly discovering there is more to the bond and more words to speak. To me it is much as real life that competition and collaboration brings forth better results and bridge four have both of these with an example of what to chase guiding them.
