A Kelsier and Dalinar comparison + some spite
i’m in the details replied to i’m in the details's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I see people say that a lot, and I am aware of the wob that says just that. But I see no evidence to support it in the text. In secret history he spares several Ire when he easily could’ve just slit their throats. He saves Elend for no reason other than Vin and later admits he’s not too upset that he ended up king. He’s ruthless no doubt, but he seems to have a pretty squared up moral compass. I agree Dalinar is a better man, but not that much of a better man. He changed partially due to not having the memories of his evilness. Kelsier did it with no help whatsoever. -
Alright this may be controversial though I can’t see why. Kelsier and Dalinar are pretty similar. Bold faced slaughter of the people who oppose them. Loyal no strings attached love for their family/friends. And character development in the form of mercy/understanding for their enemies (Elend/Listeners) They are both incredibly skilled leaders, and get what they want with little to no regard for those around them. but I see so much hate for Kelsier from the fan base for doing, in my opinion, exactly what Dalinar would have done roles reversed. Kel is hands down my favorite character in the cosmere and I would like to hear from someone who thinks he’s evil or whatever why. Respectfully

Looking at the current state of Roshar, from an outsider perspective like say Kriss, things are pretty dandy. Why? Because worst case scenario Mr. T will not destroy Roshar or it’s various peoples. He sees himself as a savior after all. It does not appear that he has any reason to support the singers taking back Roshar, and he doesn’t want to just kill citizens in droves. Thus unless you’re a main character in the Stormlight Archive, your life got exponentially better when Rayse died. Please tell me why I’m wrong edit: meant for this to be in General Thoughts and don’t know how to move it

I would say equally shallan, kaladin, and jasnah. Maybe more so jasnah but not onscreen. Between shallan and kaladin I’d say it’s a toss up

I’m not convinced that’s true. Firstly on Sel the investiture is trapped in the cognitive and thus the location of it is important. We know this is not the case on roshar. Secondly while the shattered planes were obviously wrecked by something, the dawncity of akinah was also destroyed, presumably by the sleepless to keep people from exploring it yada yada dawnshard spoilers. I don’t believe the sleepless would purposefully inflict mass damage on the world of roshar. However the connection between the reod and Mishrim’s imprisonment is great theory and in my opinion holds hella water.

Very true. I forget that shards don’t always control the magic systems that their power manifests. I think it’s likely spiritual mumbo jumbo and that most magic systems can be broken down into a “command intent” structure if we looked hard enough at them.
-
Not likely. The Dawnshards were created by Adonalsium, I doubt a single shard could make more. That said she may have patterned her magic system to be used in tandem with a Dawnshard. Or maybe just to resemble “gods divine commands”

Hair Color, Eye Color and Spiritual DNA
i’m in the details replied to Golstar's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Neat little tidbit bout the Iraili, they have metallic golden skin and eyes, similar to how dragons in human form are depicted. Which means they very likely could be from Yolen, hence the One, and it also means that Renarin and Adolin could be part dragon! -
I don’t think this is a fair assumption. Kel is shown on multiple occasions that he cares about vin and the crew. Enough that he endangered his mission to save the man Vin loves, not even her but the man she loves. That shows a great deal of empathy, which proves he’s not a psychopath or even a sociopath. More likely he’s a narcissist with extreme anger problems. I don’t like slapping a psych term on characters anytime they act a certain way. I feel as though that limits the characters. Especially because I don’t want Kelsier to be the bad guy in the cosmere, he’s ruthless no doubt and selfish too, but not evil.

Gallant's and Szeth's Afterimages
i’m in the details replied to Elithanathile10's topic in Cosmere Discussion
We have seen fused in the cognitive realm and I don’t believe any of the main cast noticed any afterimages, despite being highly invested. And the soul of the fused resides within the gem heart of the body of whomever they take over. I think it likely that gallant and szeth have an effect different from fused/singers. Also, doesn’t lift have an afterimage in dalinars vision, or am I misremembering? -
Scadrian vs. Rosharan magic post RoW
i’m in the details replied to NameIess's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Parshendi swinging one handed swords and hammers could crack plate with a single blow. Bullets generate far more force than even an enhanced weapon swing and hit a smaller surface area. If I had a super weapon swinging at me and I was a mistborn I’d throw up a bendalloy bubble and reposition, which is an advantage I’m not seeing mentioned enough. Also u less they order in question can fly, a mistborn can pretty easily stay out of the way of a shardblade, assuming the fight happens in a semi urban enviroment (enough metals). And finally mistborn can rapidly generate small arms fire velocity coins that would most certainly crack plate on a hit, again far more force with a smaller surface area than a hammer. How does a radiant who can’t fly stop a mistborn 20 feet in the air just yeeting coins and bullets at them? That said most fights maybe 6/10 depending on the order and the oaths I would give to radients.- 1816 replies

I believe it is as simple as radiants of higher oaths are more invested than those lower. It’s likely the same mechanic as why a-steel can’t be used to push on heavily invested objects. The more investiture something or someone has the less they are affected by outside investiture.

I’m assuming she healed herself when navani woke up the sibling all the way. It’s stated after she meets with kaladin that she can heal others but not herself while the tower was suppressing surges. But that effect goes away obviously.

Currently ROW if only because I just finished it. But the Final Empire will always have a special place in my heart because it first grabbed my attention to the cosmere, and I love a good heist. -
Actually had an account and been a huge cosmere fan since 2017. Started when I was scrolling through a list of the best fantasy series “like wheel of time” and picked up the final empire. Read through all six mistborn and afterwards discovered that there was a whole lot more to these books than I originally thought. Love the community here and will likely be here for years to come!

I made a post similar to this a couple of days ago and someone pointed out that larkins resembling dragons could be a product of cultivation having a hand in creating the wildlife of roshar and herself being a dragon(probably)

Along those same lines, wasn't there a spot on Nazh's map that was like an X. I think there was also a note saying that he would report what was weird there to Kriss in person. Edit: Middle of Azir, above Azimir. What could be there?
-
Should be noted that whoever this rosharan faction is they did not send one representative they sent two. Assuming that this is a nahel bond and not a hack or some such. So while the skybreaker may seem corse and kinda evil honestly there is the possibility that the spren he has bonded could also negotiate. A high spren is likely as ridged as the Radient tho. Also I vote that it is a singer or singer-hybrid, otherwise there would be no line about the oddness of the voice, as TOA are not descibed as having a weird cadance.

This theory has been bouncing around in my head since we first met Chiri-Chiri and, at least in my mind, became incredibly more valid after reading Dawnshard and ROW: there are creatures on Roshar that are either realted to, or are dragons. Now this will mainly be focused on larkin/lanceryn due to a few facts we have been given. 1. Larkin are sapient. Chiri-Chiri can talk and is shown to have complex thought in her interlude, a trait that is not shared by the majority of Rosharan wildlife. 2. This species was tasked to guard the Dawnshard. Given that dawnshards existed pre-Shattering and are extremely powerful, it seems odd that someone would leave them in the hands (claws?) of a random rosharan species. 3. Unique relationship with investiture. They feed off investiture, which is another trait that is, as far as we know, almost exclusive to this species. 4. "shimmering eyes of solid silver." They have metallic eyes, a trait that dragons canonically share. (Frost in the wob with him and Hoid talking on Yolen) 5. Scales. Now this one is a tad bit of a stretch due to in book quotes saying that larkin look like cremlings, but note that when Hoid lightweaves a dragon in his story to Kaladin, Kaladin describes the dragons scales as carapace. They also have faces more alike to axehounds than cremlings, and axehounds have more of a snout, like dragons are depicted in common media. I theorize that larkin were at one point a group of dragons that settled on Roshar maybe for the specific reason of protecting the dawnshard and maybe not. I believe that overtime they began to evolve to look more like rosharan wildlife in a simular manner to that of the Ryshadium. This would likely be even easier for them as they, as far as I am aware, have the most "powerful" or complex shapeshifting we have seen (know about) in the cosmere thus far. I have a whole post about the various shapeshifting in the cosmere and basically dragons can do it with no care for preserving mass. Allow me to enter into my wild speculation faze: larkins are not the only species on roshar that are related to dragons. 1. Greatshells. Tenuous connection at best, but I find it telling that aside from Aimia the larkins can only be found near the largest greatshells on the planet, those large moving island ones that the Reshi live on. This to me smells of a famial tie between those greatshells and the Larkin. Also they seem to be more intelligent than we first gave them credit for. (the chasmfiend at the end of ROW with the listeners) 2. Luckspren/Mandras. Makes sense thematically as madras are required for the larkin to grow, and they are great flying beasts. It is possible, likely even, however that mandras are in fact simply dragon spren in the same way horses have a spren, and humans as well. This leads me to... 3. Starspren. Don't tell me that when Shallan and Adolin see the starpren in the Cognitive Realm that you didn't think dragon I know you're lying, but seriously long necked winged beast with sparkly "carapace" like come on. Also the art of them in the book looks dragony to me. Here are some counterpoints: Singers and Sho-del look like humans more than say rats do, but the singers at least were created by Ado and have no evolutionary relationship to humans. Thus larkin can look like dragons but be a completely different spieces. Most greatshells don't look like dragons. Larkin need spren to grow larger presumably for the same reason as greatshells, and I don't think there are spren on Yolen thus dragons wouldn't need them to grow. I love dragons in fantasy and want to shoehorn more of them into the cosmere so I am biased. Lemme know your thoughts.

Yeah due to Sanderson making each planet, realistically I might add, at separate stages of development; I find the chances that a bladewar happens unlikely. That said these Shardbearers from other planets might act like Jedi of the space era, using old weapons with such proficiency they can fight those with better tech. Cosmere Jedi.

The Sibling is Cusicesh? (and also unmade?)
i’m in the details replied to Themasterhunter's question in Cosmere Q&A
You double posted mate @Themasterhunter -
I tend to believe they would be, beacuse they can mend flesh too if I recal correctly. Picture a “Blood Savant” like a barely sentient liquidy creature sliming around healing people instead killing them XD
