  1. I am annoyed by him, but I do think he is trustworthy. I am annoyed by him because he is like other characters Sanderson has written where Sanderson's and my own sense of humor do not mesh. He is irritating not funny. I also find him unrealistic. The scene where he and Palona are chilling while a battle is fought and two high storms clash was too much for me. Again not funny just irritating. I can't imagine anyone really acting like that while those things happen and anyone who did is an [swear word removed].
  2. Favorite is Kaladin. By far my favorite SA character. I like that he is so caring and when he gets down he gets back up. I like that he is a teacher, he just can't help himself. He makes the people around him stronger. He is the best. Next favorites Lift, Rock (does he count?), Adolin (he knows Maya's name = close enough) in that order. I like Lift a lot. She is one tough kid and she pays attention. I like that Rock says fighting is beneath him. Adolin is pretty cool. I like that he got Maya to talk to him. Least favorite Dalinar and Szeth. Not a fan of mass murderers. Edit: I see Shallan that way too. OB convinced me she is less callous than I thought her, but I still see her as very manipulative. I like her okay. She is middling among the characters I like.
  3. Oooh. Very cool. I would love it, if this was another secret from herself. I believed her when she said she didn't know where Plate came from. It'll be a nice surprise if she already has Plate. I think Dalinar might Ascend as well. It sure seemed like he had a mini ascension already.
  4. Jasnah may have her plate but she's not someone we've been following very closely so I would still consider it a win if Shallan got her plate before Kaladin. Of the main characters I could get over Dalinar's death easiest. Just looking at Kaladin/Shallan/Adolin. I'm not sure. As long as Kaladin is alive, I could survive it.
  5. I agree Adolin has been using Dalinar as his lodestone, but that may be coming to an end. I hope he feels betrayed when he learns Dalinar killed his mother and lied about it. I don't completely discount the possibility that Adolin could fall to Odium, but I think it is unlikely.
  6. I don't have trouble seeing Kaladin in Plate. I expect it will happen and I agree with you about Syl. I don't think she is worried that Kaladin will never say the 4th oath. Random Prediction: Shallan will be the first of our Heroes to get Plate. I would like that. It would make up for her crummy storylines. @NoiseSpren Kaladin has the most charisma. I was laughing and laughing at how Shallan and Adolin were groaning "Oh of course he got so-and-so to follow him." "Oh, there he goes doing it again." .
  7. I haven't had internet the past few days so I only just saw this. Thanks for the response. The rules make perfect sense.
  8. @Calderis I haven't seen that before. Thanks. I thought probably Sanderson meant to conclude that story line. I still think it was quite bad. But I expect Shallan and Kaladin to interact and forgiveness will deepen their relationship. I don't think Shallan has forgiven Kaladin for killing Helaren. That is why I said she is in deep denial. Maybe I am wrong.
  9. Is this really a thing? I was so happy to see this thread because I had never seen it before and it is a subject I always find interesting. Plus, like you said @Gasper we can discuss this with the new information from Oathbringer. I was very entertained by all the predictions that came so close. I would think so, but we have yet to see this happen. Shallan is in deep denial. We have to wait until book 4 to see where their relationship is going.
  10. I don't think there is any chance that Kaladin will be involved with a man. I am waiting with bated breath for Kaladin to have a relationship. I like Kaladin and Shallan. Failing that, Kaladin and Adolin. Failing that, Kaladin and Khriss.
  11. That is so crazy, I love it.
  12. Interesting. I don't really agree. Adolin seems to think his relationship with Shallan is like past relationships. He makes the comparison that they always started well and then he acts like he's not sure how they all go wrong. I don't see how Shallan's relationship with Adolin is more than hanging out, going on walks, and giving gifts. Except now they are married and that is all their relationship has consisted of. There is the fact that Shallan is always the one to kiss Adolin and I can be fairly certain Adolin has never had sex, but I don't think you have to have sex for a relationship to count as a relationship. Thank you for the different perspective, I can see how you came to it. I'm almost convinced, but not quite.
  13. I love this. I hope it happens. Thanks for making me laugh. I think what Adolin did is really skeevy and Adolin doesn't see a problem with it. He goes on and on about wanting a relationship to work and then he does this. His life goals were to duel and occasionally court a pretty girl. I just don't see that he attaches to people. ETA: Yes, I think it is possible, not that it has to happen or anything.
  14. Someone else who hated that ending. In my head, Barney and Robin are together. Back to the triangle. I can imagine Adolin having an affair. He apparently didn't see anything wrong with going after two sisters at the same time so I can see him falling for temptation. Despite how perfect he was in OB, he is a flawed human being. Inability to connect is one of his flaws.
  15. I like Kaladin and Khriss. No, I don't think it will ever happen, but if Kaladin and Shallan is never happening then I still see Kaladin with a scholar type.
  16. @RShara I love your choices especially Park Hye Min for Shallan. I would pick Ken Watanabe for Dalinar. Love it.
  17. I don't agree. He sets up a goal for himself. "Save Dalinar." In order to keep moving. He is capable of doing things. He hasn't let go of Tien, but he still saves the men in his first squad and later Bridge 4, but he goads himself with his failures. He does not let go. He was talking about letting go when Adolin was dying, but he wasn't able to. In my opinion, he is always caring his dead with him and his failures. Tarah says to him that he needs to let his dead go and care for the living. (Sorry I don't know the exact wording, but this is the gist as far as I remember.)
  18. I would say Elhokar was only barely one of his people. Elhokar was really one of Dalinar's people and Dalinar is who Kaladin cared about. Kaladin definitely felt he failed Elhokar and he carried that with him. The scene where Adolin is all "Leave me. Go on without me." Kaladin is not willing to let Adolin go or his dead or his failures in order to say the 4th ideal.
  19. I gave you an upvote. I don't think Kaladin needs a defense. I think he's perfect. I expect him to say the 4th ideal, but if he never does I'll be 100% behind him. Like what was said upthread if the 4th oath is really contrary to his nature of protection then he may never say it.
  20. I don't connect these two. I really liked the Last Jedi. At first I thought OB was good but there were parts I didn't like. Now, after all this time I have decided I don't like OB. I have higher expectations for books than movies. I disagree. I didn't think he had accepted this. His problem from start to finish was not letting anyone go.
  21. I've changed my mind. I am siding with @Vissy on this. I think Kaladin's arc is incomplete because it lacks resolution. Contrast with Dalinar and Moash. I would say they both had resolution in their arc's in OB. And I would say Kaladin had complete arcs in WOK and WOR. This incompleteness is a first for him. My reasoning is the same as @Vissy.
  22. I thought @Vissy was saying it is beyond criticism. I liked Kaladin's arc. All of it. I was excited to see what would happen in the next book. It left me feeling anticipation.
  23. I loved all of Kaladin's scenes in OB. I loved how he took steps to fight his depression, I loved his defense of the Singers, I loved the Bridge 4 POVs of him, and I loved that he couldn't say the 4th ideal. I do expect he will say the 4th ideal, eventually. I don't agree. Not all character arcs need to be positive, and positive growth as a person is not the be-all requirement to count as an arc. I agree a bit with both of you. I think an arc can be about failure, but if it is then it is quite disappointing and depressing. I also think Kaladin's arc in OB is set up for what comes next. Not sure a character arc of failure is beyond criticism. If Kaladin had died in OB, I would have a lot of criticism. I would say things like this is pointless; this was a waste of my time. Kaladin is by far my favorite character in SA. If the books were all Kaladin all the time, I would like them more. I would not miss Dalinar or Shallan. I also would have loved to see Kaladin say the 4th ideal and save the day. I do not get tired of it. I do not think it is over done or boring. I totally don't care if it is predictable. I love Kaladin.
  24. That is fair. It is hard for me to wrap my head around. It doesn't help that the Alethi have such strict separation between men and women.
  25. I am sure he is uncomfortable. I remember a Sanderson quote where he said he was a prude. I on the other hand am uncomfortable with any and all mentions of rape. If he can write about rape then he can write about his main male characters being interested in sex. It does not have to be a sex scene. Sex scenes also make me uncomfortable. ETA: It has more to do with balance. Sex can be a good thing. I am interested. Thank you for sharing. I strongly agree.
