  1. That's in reference to the Desolations, which previously didn't include a new storm as far as we know.
  2. I wasn't contesting your point that he decided to make use of an existing Truthless. I was contesting the implication that his only intention was to make use of a Truthless. The wording clearly means that he pondered the creation of a Truthless for his own ends. I very much disagree that it can be read either way.
  3. it means "make a Truthless to use" make to use is actually proper grammar because you weren't supposed to end a sentence with a prepositional phrase.
  4. nothing in particular. I just occasionally remember semi-exact quotes from different threads and want to try and find them again, but with/without '+' and quotes don't seem to affect my ability to find phrases
  5. logically Shinovar would be the anomaly because the highstorms predate the arrival of the shards. Which makes things very interesting because Shin is one of the languages derived from Dawnate, the language of the Dawn Chant.
  6. This is unlikely to be the case. A prevailing theory is that the religious tale of being kicked from the Tranqueline Halls is rooted in truth and there is a subgroup on Roshar that isn't native to the planet. It's entirely probable that if this is the case they would have brought some useful animals from their world of origin. We do know that Shinovar is home to horses, pigs, and "chickens" (meaning any feathered flying thing) I make three statements here and I do not mean to imply that they are related to eachother lol
  7. The afterimage is caused because his spiritual (cognitive) self didn't completely realign with his physical self when Nale revived him not sure this is needed, but Edgedancer To the best of my knowledge we have not seen Szeth holding stormlight since his "death"
  8. As Calderis already said, the Stormfather specifically says this storm is something new.
  9. I believe It's After Szeth became Truthless. Rysn's interlude in WoK tells us Szeth left Shinovar 7 year prior. The new chapters (24) for Oathbringer say that MrT changed 5 years ago.
  10. was afraid of that. Thanks for replies
  11. Shalash is Lightweavers Chanarach is Releasers
  12. cool, good words. I suppose I should have refined my question a bit though. I'm more wondering if a Shard can COMPLETELY divest a planet. Like, If Preservation had tried to leave Scadrial with all his power intact, he'd have had to kill everyone to recover the parts of himself in humans. Or is he forced to leave that power behind if he chooses to leave. The point is, we know Odium can't leave the Roshar system, partially because he's become so invested and he doesn't want to lose that power. I want to know what lengths he has to go to to recover his investment. I thought of another question too. 6. Do Parshendi have epicanthic folds?
  13. Not really an issue with anything, I'm just wondering if there's a guide to the search function somewhere? Like are the special character combinations that can be used to refine searching? Do quotes behave like they do in google? Things like that.
  14. You might want to consider getting involved in this thread: That said, we know that Shin is one of the languages decended directly from the Dawnchant along with Parshendi, Horneater. This would seem to make it one of the earliest languages. It doesn't necessarily disprove your theory, but it implies that the other two races came from somewhere else too but didn't get the special earth-eske treatment
  15. Yeah, when I see it again, I'll let you know. I know I've seen it a few times recently. I don't have time today to go hunting though.
  16. This one. We seem to keep point to this and using it to indicate that each order will be represented as a Flashback Character for a book. Maybe there's another Word that says that somewhere else, but I think this is the only one I've seen in reference, but it's not about the Flashback characters. It's about PoV characters.
  17. that quote the question refers to pov characters, not flashback characters. Adolin is a pov character, as is Axies. I don't think that's saying what we seem to think it's saying...
  18. Why would anyone have bothered to secretly switch the blades regardless. The only one stated to be present that would recognize Taln and the significance of his blade if it really was an honorblade is Hoid, and we know he didn't make the switch As I'm thinking about this a couple of things occurred to me. 1. The replacement blade was unbonded as well. So either someone got an unbonded blade for the purpose or unbonded theirs. 2. It's possible a switch was made because the first blade would be recognized
  19. I actually don't think we know for certain the blade he was using was an honorblade There's a Word of Brandon that he does consider the Heralds to be a member of their respective order of Radiants. Which isn't to say that anyone holding an honorblade is a radiant. I can't find it at the moment. The question was along the lines of Have we seen a member of every Order and Brandon's response was, do you consider the Heralds members of their order.
  20. put in spoiler tag. didn't realize this thread wasn't itself in the Oathbring Spoilers board. glad I didn't actually say anything about it...
  21. I'm not convinced that the Skybreakers were the ones to remain. They're the only ones we know to be active currently, but it's entirely possible they were refounded unless there's information I'm forgetting
  22. yes hence my I theorize on this a little here, though I don't really go into detail. I don't necessarily think it's accurate, but it's a theory. If the Windrunners and Stonewards both found a thing reprehensible and convinced the Bondsmiths of that fact, I feel like the other orders might follow them in a sort of domino effect Again, no reason to think this is accurate. It is far from the simplest solution, requiring quite a bit of explanation to make it work.
  23. I kind of like the theory, but I don't think it's correct. If you look at the Epigraphs in WoR from the in-world book of the same name. We have, in chapter 58 Which seems to relate to the enslavement of the Voidbringers Then in chapters 38 and 40 we get You can see, it appears that some secret was discovered that caused the Windrunners at least to abandon their oaths. This happens several chapters, in the in-world WoR, after the plan to stop the Voidbringers. It doesn't seem to be part of some plan. I don't see the two being related in the way you describe. I do however think that the fact that the method of Parshendi enslavement and the fact that they aren't evil on their own might have been part of what led to the Recreance. The Windrunners found out that Humans had enslaved a race who had no control over their prior actions. They felt the need to release the Parshendi, but also were afraid of reawakening Voidbringers, and being unable to decide, they did neither. We've seen this in Kaladin, being trapped between oaths. I don't really know how that would extend to the other orders though.
  24. I was thinking the opposite. I wondered if maybe they didn't know how many pieces there would be. They formed a large group to perform the shattering, but with only 16 shards they had to decide who took the power. If I'm not mistaken, questions about whether the people we think are the original shardholders are actually the original shardholders have gotten RAFO. I was sort of wondering if there were a lot of people present and there was something of a tiny succession war among those present. Hoid was smart enough to just turn down the shard he was offered rather than risk being immediately killed and stolen from. Obviously I have no evidence for this theory
