  1. I was thinking this same thing. And then there was this: And I first thought Aleksiel was being overly critical of the plot device of spiritual perks I don't think he would miss what she said in the moment necessarily, but would immediately after have difficulty remembering where he heard some information.
  2. Welcome. you might find this topic of interest, though there are several on the subject of Nightblood on Roshar as well You're theory might be plausible, but it would require someone on Roshar to be familiar with the process of Hemalurgy, which I don't think there's any evidence for. For now, my theory is either 1. as a heavily invested object, possibly akin to an honorblade, Nighblood can actually grant the ability to draw in investure or 2. Nightblood can feed off of stormlight in spheres Szeth is carrying and not on his own innate investure. edit:
  3. It's also odd that none of Dalinar's visions featured them. You'd think if they were major factors, Honor might've mentioned "oh yeah, and those slaves you've had practically since the Last Desolation... gonna want to watch them."
  4. "I don't suppose you know what kind of alien spren life form leaves a green spectral trail and craves sugar water, do you?" To be serious. I don't remember the scene, so I didn't see anything important at the time. I need to read it again though.
  5. Yeah but they're speaking Alethi with no mention of rhythms. And its been a week give or take. Does anyone have an analysis of how long Eshonai's descent took? No rhythms to their speech supports my idea that they don't currently have a spren at all.
  6. My question is whether or not these awakened parshmen have a spren bond at the moment. They're not in dull form, which is caused by bonding a spren that doesn't correspond to a form, and Kaladin clearly says it's not war form which he would recognize. It's always possible that they are in a form we've yet to see, but my thought is that maybe the storm somehow altered the parshmen so that they are no longer in slave form when they have no bond.
  7. yes. Like a satellite that takes 24 hours to orbit earth, but does so opposite its rotation. Doesn't really do anything for the theory, but I thought it needed to be clarified. also, this is just the knowledge of a person with astronomical interest, not an expert.
  8. Maybe he's trained his Skybreakers so well that they will be a threat to him. After all, he's been leading them to kill innocents on a false premise for some time now. Perhaps they'll attempt to pass judgement on him. And this would be the second, albeit brief, time Szeth has been given a purpose only to have it turn out wrong.
  9. I read through this after just reading a thread on Shallan and I had this wild thought. What if Helaran ends up being the champion. He wouldn't even necessarily have to be revived, just... reanimated? It feels like his activities are going to be important to Shallan's arc at least and we know he's set up to be a major complication as far as Radiant unity is concerned, but what if it goes further than that. Really I think his story is how the Skybreakers will become involved with the current radiants in a positive way, but I couldn't pass up mentioning this idea.
  10. I don't think Helaran is alive; because he's been reported dead to too many people who have no reason to have been notified otherwise, (Like, who told his dad? the Ghostbloods? I'm not really sure why they would bother.) and also because his death is too obviously a pending complication. My suspicion is that Helaran actually joined the Skybreakers, such as they are, after discovering that their mother was one (hence her reaction to Shallan's being a Radiant) I think it's possible Shallan will end up with a connection to the Skybreakers through this path, possibly fooling even Nale. Edgedancer spoiler
  11. I have read it and I don't consider that sufficient evidence either. (though I do need to read it again) Was why I asked. thanks.
  12. That's the difference between geosynchronous and geostationary. geosynchronous : an orbit takes the same time as the planets rotation geostationary: orbiting body appears stationary because it's orbit matches the planets rotation exactly. stationary is a subclass of synchronous. It's part of why the "do they orbit opposite of Roshar's rotation" is a worthwhile question
  13. From the WoR chap. 41 epigraph makes me wonder if maybe OP theory doesn't necessarily apply to all of the Radiants, but only the order that remained. Perhaps the rise of the ardentia was the great subterfuge. Also, can someone point to why everyone seems to think the Skybreakers were the order to stay? There may be a perfectly good reason for the assumption, but I don't know what it is.
  14. I was entirely unaware during my first read. I was sort of conscious of during my second read because I intentionally read the Arcanum first, but even then, I was looking for evidence of it in the story and don't remember any. I don't know... this just feels like news to me I guess.
  15. As a proponent of the theory that the insanity of the Heralds is a warping of the attributes they are associated with, is it remotely possible that Elhokar somehow managed to marry Battar (wise, careful)? If she was functioning at a similar level to Nale, it's possible she could fool Navani, or was even legitimately competent before Navani left. unlikely I know.
  16. So in the Prologue to Oathbringer it is explicitly stated that heating fabrials work by trapping a spren. Did we know that before? It was theorized in the Ars Arcanum, but I don't recall anyone (Navani?) specifically stating it. The focus always seems to be on the stones involved. Do all modern fabrials require a spren to be trapped in their stones? It seems obvious that the older ones don't e.g. soulcasters, oathgates. Unless these shouldn't even be considered fabrials, but I'm not sure what else they'd be called. That would raise some new questions, such as what happens to a spren trapped in the stones for the "Pairing Fabrials" where the stone must be split in two? This thought was triggered in earnest when we learn of a spren that seems intent on warning people of things in chapter 14, reminding me of the alerter fabrial back from the WoK interlude. I feel like I need to do another read through and rethink various applications of fabrials.
  17. In Dalinar's vision where he's talking with Nahodon, it is heavily implied that people with a spren bond were doing something "wrong". So I don't think it can be argued that a strict determination of "right"/"wrong" is required by those who became Radiants. More on topic: There is a theory around here somewhere that the epigraph in WoR wasn't "enlightened" Mr. T bringing himself back to his train of thought, but rather a warning to "average" Mr. T that including the death rattles would cause deviation in the Diagram. I like this theory and thus fall on the unintentional villain side of this argument because I think his original, potentially helpful, insight is being guided/corrupted by forces of Odium. I'll link to where I read the theory if I can find it again. *edit* Found it:
  18. I seem to have found it. *jumps on Mraize's Aether bandwagon as it tries to leave*
  19. We do? Apparently I stink at finding things then. I looked heavily after seeing people seeming so sure that a thing from non-canon materials was being referenced, but I didn't find anything indicating that aether should exist. I don't suppose you have the source for that?
  20. I don't think I've ever heard that word defined as or used to mean anything other than hollow rocks with crystals inside them. interesting. I think I found where I first got the atium crystal idea. No actual confirmation though and aether is brought up later in the thread. Having re-read the available portion of Liar, the description of aether does fit. So I may have to concede the point. It irks me, however, to believe the Brandon would include an artifact from a magic system it has been stated he may not even use in canon. 21. I went and looked at coppermind. It describes them as crystals, but also at one point calls them geodes. I feel like this is a misuse of the word "geode" by whoever wrote the article, but I don't have an e-copy of Mistborn to confirm the word isn't used there somewhere.
  22. I'm not talking about the beads. I'm talking about the crystals in the Pits of Hathsin that the beads are extracted from
  23. I was sure I had seen confirmation somewhere that the crystal was an atium crystal from Scadrial, but I'm unable to find it again.
  24. That's true, as far as the war on Roshar is concerned, it would be unlikely that all non-humans would be lost. That is unless it's bigger than I initially considered and the entire Roshar system is lost. After all, there are humans elsewhere in the Cosmere. As long as Odium is permanently dealt with, humankind should survive.
  25. Hi all, I come here frequently reading through the various theories. First time posting. I had an idea about Taravangian that I haven't seen around. First, I assume that his request to Nightwatcher was made like he quotes in WoR "The capacity to stop what is coming. The capacity to save humankind" Secondly, I'm a fan of the theory that this request could have been interpreted as two separate requests (not sure of an original theory source, but mentioned here https://www.reddit.com/r/Cosmere/comments/6338rr/sa_taravangians_capacity/). Not mentioned is the possibility that he might have two curses. I don't recall there being a limit of one boon/curse for the Old Magic. I don't necessarily think this theory will turn out to be true, and it's not necessary for my theory, but I like its possibility. Finally, my addition to the discussion of Mr. T's plot: What if he's mostly right, the diagram will work, defeat Odium, stop the voidbringers, but it will destroy all (most?) life on Roshar other than "humankind". His solution will work, but it will only save humans. It stands to reason that, as apparent slaves to Odium, the Listeners also need saving at the very least. Then the various non-human and partial-human races and maybe even non-sentient life (if anything on Roshar can really be called that) Also, of course, the spren. It just seemed to me that the solution of the diagram may work but be incomplete and that the larger strife between the Diagram-ites and the Radiants when the big battle comes won't be who needs to win, but rather who needs to survive. Mr. T saving only humans, Radiants desiring to save everyone.
