We mods have taken over this post again for our malicious purposes, mwahahaha. We are overhauling character creation! Please refer to this post: For character creation purposes and disregard the following information for now, which we will likely remove at some point soon. Please post in the Chat Thread or the Character Discussion thread if you have any questions. ============ Hello! Welcome to the Character creation guidelines post. Here we will outline the general rules and steps you should take around creating a character. You can create any character you want, anything Brandon uses in his books is possible. To ensure that no character is too strong, we use a ranking system (called the Index) there’s no need to worry too much about that right now, especially if this is your first character. Just follow the steps below and you will be fine! If you'd like to take a look at the Index, feel free to scroll down to the next post. Next to the value of each ability, it also explains in details how characters are ranked. Steps to create a character Decide what kind of character you want to play. Someone with Investiture? A thief? Maybe a warrior with a Shardblade? Think about strengths and weaknesses. What skills do you need/which types of Investiture? Which weaknesses does your character have? Try to answer the following questions: Where is your character from? What happened to them so far? Do they have family/friends? What motivates them, which subjects catch their attention? Fill out a character sheet. You can find an empty template below. Please post the character sheet in this thread for one of our mods to look it over (at the moment: Voidus, Sorana, I think I am here, AonEne) so that they can approve it. If you’d like some advice, you can always use the character discussion thread to bounce some ideas around first. Your character got approved? Great! You are ready to start! Character sheets Rules around characters Here are some more points about creating new characters: You may have multiple characters (in total: 5 ), but please don’t abuse this privilege by tag-teaming in fights. Any bio that is submitted remains on the list so it can be referenced when people read old posts. Dead character’s names are struck-through. Please report if your character dies so that can be done. To update your character, follow the same process that is used to submit characters. If you have lots of updates, please post your entire bio again with the updates made directly to the text. It’s easier to add to the list again that way. Here are some general formatting requests/advice about how to create a good character Welcome to the RP! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask them in the Alleyverse PM (to be added to the PM you will need to ask Voidus or Ene if they can add you), the Chat Thread, or Alleyverse Character Discussion. You can also read the New Players Guide.

The pair of them sped downward. Mace doubled his weight to increase his speed. As he neared the bottom, he checked over his shoulder to see Yzabet gliding close behind him. With a grin, he got to his feet, still riding the makeshift sled. Just as he was about to hit the ground, he pushed off of the tray and tucked his body into a roll. He half rolled, half tumbled onto the floor, landing flat on his back. "That was fun!" he announced. Near him, a chocolate geyser popped up from the floor, spraying him with deliciousness. He approved. Chocolate fountains were too predictable. Geysers in the other hand were just spontaneous enough to be both scary and enjoyable. As he thought this, another geyser sprung into existence underneath him, shooting him into the air.

Have you read the Emporers Soul? It's a novella set in the cosmere. It's really good, you should read it if you get the chance.

Mace's ribs, weakened from his fight with an angry poet earlier in the week, actually cracked. He drew on some of his stored health to heal them. "I'm... good," he replied, grimacing through his smile. "My condolences for the loss of your husband, by the way." Mace stared out over the ballroom floor. It was sliced with ice in some places, and snow was gently falling in others. It was a surreal sight for someone who had never seen falling snow before. "You know," he said. "I've waited long enough. It's time we had some fun. C'mon!" He took off, running for the staircase. As he went he grabbed a serving tray to use as a tobbagon on the ice-covered spiral staircase.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Archer replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You know you're a sanderfan when you hear someone say Hey Siri! and think they're talking about the Warbreaker character. -
Welcome! Watch out for spoilers then. What's your favourite book?

I'm not as think as people drunk I am, thought Mace. As he drifted around the room, he casually tried to bump into as many people as he could. He'd been paid by a local pickpocket to acclimatize the party-goers to being jolted, that way when they got really- Mace suddenly stumbled to a stop. His eyes had caught a glimpse of a familiar figure strolling in through the side doors. Could it be them? After all this time? Hurriedly thrusting his drink into a random person's hand (a quick glance behind him told him it had actually been into the face of an annoyed looking seon. Oops) he dashed across the room. To his left, some fancy dressed lady made a grand entrance. Cool. When finally he arrived at the side foyer, he skidded to a stop. Adjusting his bowtie, he then snuck up behind Yzabet [ @I am Witless] and gave her a hearty slap on the back. "Yzabet! I didn't think that you would make it!" he exclaimed.

The first thing I noticed was the description of Brandon was 'Sunday Times Bestselling Author' instead of 'New York Times Bestselling Author'. Since the books are both in English, you shouldn't see much of a difference. If it were translated, you might have seen some changes (names have been known to change in translation, like changing 'Milou' to 'Snowy', but that's not such a big issue in fantasy books since Brandon made up all the names). The UK doesn't engage in much censorship, so that shouldn't be a problem. The biggest change you will notice is the spelling of some words. They'll use the British spelling instead of the American one. Expect to see words like colour, favourite, centre, offence, traveller etc.

Oooh. You're on the wrong forum then, bud. I'm just messing with you. Welcome to the Shard! What's your favourite Sanderson book?

Thank you so much for not being a robot. Welcome to the Shard! You should post here (it's fun, I promise): If you want intellectually stimulating stuff, you could read through the theories section or the subforums for books, or hop on our collection of everything Brandon has ever said, the Arcanum! You could spend hours reading WOBs. Enjoy!

Welcome to the Shard! We're glad to have you join us. Random get-to-know-you question: If you had a cosmere themed amusement park, what's one ride you'd put in it?

Without warning, a very confused, and very lost, deliveryman arrived at the Newcago Court. Scratching his head he looked around for someone to give him directions. Mace, who had been transporting yaks nearby, came over to help. "Can I help you?" he said, indicating his desire to help. "Yes," came the heavily accented reply, indicating a desire to receive the help which had been offered. "I've got a delivery of one medium sized party for a Ms. Elsà Steelért. Do you know her?" "Nope!" Mace replied. "But I'd happily take care of that delivery for you while you deal with that yak eating your hat." He nodded to the yak. The yak rolled its eyes, then shuffled over to poke at the man's hat. Mace used the distraction to steal the cardboard box holding the party and run off. He ran and ran, laughing like a seal that somehow learned to laugh hysterically. He was so busy laughing that he didn't even notice the small rock sitting in the middle of the path. In a display of irony, or maybe karma, he wasn't sure which, his foot hit the rock at full speed. He tripped, the box flying from his hands! It spun in the air, seeming to defy gravity as time sloooowed dooown... before smashing into the ground and unleashing an explosion of party decorations and loud music. "It's party time!" he yelled, summoning all the party enthusiasts in the area to come celebrate with him.

Umm, actually Dilaf, before revealing his true status as a Gragdet, became Hrathen's odiv, not his krondet. ------------- In The Rithmatist, Joel became an orphan after his father, a chalk maker, died in a springrail accident.

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
Archer replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Archer was happy to oblige. While he was at it, he built a house for the mimes to live nearby so they didn't have to travel all the way from Mimeville every time they needed to get to the wall for repairs. The mimes were happy about that.- 111832 replies

Welcome to the Shard! What got you into reading Sanderson?
-
Hi Daizan! I like Mistborn Era 2 or Reckoners the best. If you haven't read Elantris or Warbreaker, I highly recommend them. They're really good. Welcome to the Shard!

This website listed it as a nonprofit involved in 'Grantmaking and Giving Services'. That sounds like something Brandon would do.

Mace continued to lay motionless. Storm was watching from beside him, and as such saw the sudden change of expression Jaco's face underwent. The angry snarl was replaced by a confused frown. "Mace, I think it's okay to get off of him now." Trusting Storm, Mace eased off of Jaco. He kept a wary hand by the man's throat though. He wasn't going to be caught off guard again. "I need answers. And I need them now," he demanded.
-
When Storm got close enough, he swung the spear to smash into Hesseeri's chest. At the same time, Mace found the strength to roll over to him and kick him in the back of the knees. Hesseeri fell backwards, landing next to Mace. Unable to think of anything better to do, Mace rolled on top of him and drew on his reserves of weight to keep him down.
-
Mace smashed into his foe's legs. The man fell forward, but used the opportunity to hit Mace in the sternum. It was cheap shot, but Mace was in too much pain to care. Mace lay on the ground moaning. Behind him, Storm had was fiddling with some chains. To buy him time, Mace grabbed the discarded spear and swung it half-heartedly at the man he knew as Jaco. It bounced off his leg. Storm finally looked up. He'd affixed his knife to the end of a chain. He held the chain like a lasso, swinging it quickly, building up speed. Then he lashed out at his foe. The chain swung sideways, hitting Hesseeri, then wrapping around him as the momentum carried the end in circles around him. Capitalizing on his opponent's momentary distraction, Storm then ran forward with his spear to attack.
