So, not much I can say right now. I have a new job and the only times I'm reading is when school permits it and in my two 20-minute breaks at work. Meaning things advance slowly as Braize. I need to figure something out to speed things up. So, for now, I haven't finished WoK, but I do have one or two tidbits to say. First things first, Elhokar. Gosh, the memories. I remember on my first read I got all excited when he described the shadows following him. I was like "He's the same as Shallan!" and then forgot all about it during WoR because they stopped mentioning it. Kelek's breath, it's so tragic. And Sadeas, why did he have to be like that? I liked the guy, he seemed genuinely concerned about Dalinar, maybe he was. I guess it wasn't enough. You know, I know Kaladin has a lot to deal with, but I think that shouldn't stop him from having fun from time to time. That childish side of him that made him storming try to walk on a wall just because should emerge more often. Can I say just how cute the relationship between Dalinar and Navani is? It's such a breath of fresh air from your typical youthful romance. And don't get me wrong, I'll never get tired of typical youthful romance, romance in general is something I enjoy greatly stories, but Dalinar and Navani really broadened my horizons. Ah yes, Wandersail. Great story. What in the name of the Iridiscent Tones happened to that flute? First difference in opinions between Kal and Moash. When Dalinar saves the bridgemen and salutes them, Kaladin stops to consider that Dalinar may have done something truly honorable, while Moash jumps to the conclusion that I don't care because lighteyes = bad. Not that Kaladin really believes something honorable just happened but it's a first step. Closing note, Lopen is great.

Granted, it's done. It's done being evaluated by your teachers. You failed on all of them. I wish to be always clean regardless if I bathe or not. -
When I see villain characters I usually just think "Oh, how cool, I would hate this person in real life but here in fiction they're cool" but WoT defies that. I think I dislike the Whitecloaks more than the Seanchan. They're not as bad maybe, but every storming assumption they make makes me want to strangle someone. And their job is basically to make assumptions. Like not only their ability to turn literally anyone into a Darkfriend, but that firm belief that they're the lone heroes saving the day, the last ray of hope left for humanity, that everything they do is right and the mere thought that it may not be true is enough to make you a Darkfriend. That really gets on my nerves. On a side note, there's a single Seanchan character that I like. The last book I read being precisely Shadow Rising.

Indeed. Unexpected but pretty nice. It's been known to happen, and yeah, I think a lot of people got around 70s as their highest result. It's really surprising when some gets over 85% in any given order.

Granted, you just gained 150 IQ. You also just lost that same number in height. Metric system though, so don't panic. I wish for Universe-awareness (knowing if there is life in other planets, how they are, their culture, technology, probability of meeting them, etc). -
So, all you guys have to defend yourselves is some bones? It's funny. A girl once asked me the same thing while I was stealing her dog.

Storms! I completely forgot about this week's chapter. I'm adjusting to the busiest long-term schedule I've had and it's being, weird. Anyway, well, looks like I was wrong. Moash was indeed trying to convince Kaladin to kill himself. I'm still a bit surprised though. I didn't think Moash was so far gone to think of his actions as a mercy. If it was him simply trying to kill Kal out of mercy, it would be more usual but trying to convince him to do it himself? The villain doing wrong thinking it right is a pretty common trope but this is taking it to a whole other level. Speaking of Kal, I don't know how to feel about him right now. He had worse moments in WoK, but they were short, and they ended as soon as he found something to drive him forward. Now the motivation is already there, but he's sinking all the same. His previous failures still weigh on him and he's accumulating even more. It's coming to be pretty in-your-face though, how the deaths are bothering him more than ever, how there have been several close calls during the year and how he froze every time. You all were right, everything is pointing, with neon lights and everything, to a fourth Ideal based on "You can't protect everyone". The journey towards it is gonna be rough though. I can't say a thing about Shallan that hasn't been said before on the thread but I agree with that point about her personas not being separate beings. I never understood why some people seemed to think they were their own separate person with different skills and everything. OB makes a point of making clear that that isn't the case when Shallan goes so confidently to a bar and drinks the strongest thing they have, because Veil is a great drinker of course, and it goes terribly wrong. She knows nothing about liquors and she has zero tolerance. Now she is a great drinker but only after some intensive practice and because she has Stormlight to aid her. The point being, Veil cannot do anything that Shallan herself couldn't. Because she is a part of her, not some kind of parasite relying on her body. Now, where does that leave her for this book? I honestly don't know, several things that have been said here seem all really interesting and plausible. Is she adopted? A serial killer (beyond her parents)? A completely different being? Or is there no last truth save for that fact itself? I don't know, but it seems terrifying and I am so looking forward to her POVs during the rest of the book. (Btw, someone said Adolin could be killed off as his character has no current nor potential future growth. Come on, OB was basically Setup for Adolin's Development: The Book, I'm convinced there's big stuff in store for him) Navani. I love Navani but I feel somewhat uncomfortable with her opinion on the spren issue. Yes, it's a different culture, and yes, accepting that capturing spren is cruel would be accepting that her passion is inhumane and that she should leave it. But still, how nonchalantly she brushes off the issue as soon as she reads it, as if it were a joke almost. It wasn't too nice. Also, those planet name drops! And we're only starting, supposedly the one with the Cosmere secrets is Venli. I can't wait. Now, I have a couple crackpot theories that occured to me. (please don't take these seriously) What if Shallan comes from another world, maybe Nalthis idk, and her eventually accepting that truth is the reason she's the first one of the main group to start becoming Cosmere-aware? What if every surge fabrial has the same chain structure, because you're effectively chaining the spren and dragging it around? What if Feverstone Keep is in Amia? What about Ashyn? Ok, enough I believe. Great chapter. Sorry for being late.

You know. I think when people care enough about me to treat me like crem when I need to be treated like crem. It takes some real appreciation and trust to do that. What about you?

Huh, interesting. I honestly find her to be a perfect opposite for Perrin. They just fit so well. I really like the parallels between the two in Shadow Rising.

Wait, people dislike her?

Huh. Then I really need to reread WoR. I thought you were talking about the Tower. What I remember happening in book 2 is Sadeas basically threatening Adolin with everything he's going to do to Dalinar and Adolin goes "Braize no!" and kills him to prevent him from keeping his word. Agreed. I think OP was talking about the sheer numbers Dalinar had, and how horrible their deaths were and, just the cold-blooded-ness of Adolin while killing Sadeas? If we go by kill count, both Dalinar and Sadeas are on equal ground I think, and if we go by intentions, Sadeas had the worst by far, so either way the point doesn't stand.

Trails of Cold Steel (and the Kiseki series in general)
Eluvianii replied to Zurvanight's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Yeah, there are even comments about people being dissapointed with it, idk. I'll find out in two years. Yep. Not sure what the difference is though. I just figured ultimate version = better. Is the original even available on PC? -
A Thing I Noticed on the Spanish Forums
Eluvianii replied to Mat's topic in General Brandon Discussion
My time has come. In Spanish, the solution people came to while translating the order's names was separating them into two words. Wind Corridors - Runner translates to "Corredor" in Spanish, which means both runner and corridor/hallway. Dust Carriers - Bringer is an awkward word to translate. The closest we have is "Portador", which is someone who carries something. There are technically a word or two that correspond better to the English meaning but it would sound really bad. Filo Dancers - This one's easy. "Filo" means Edge. I'm not sure why your computer didn't translate that. Other Nominees - Alright, this is a weird one. The closest we have to Else is "Otro", which translates back to Other. Nominees on the other hand. Let me see. Caller would be really weird to translate. We don't have a single word that fits, it literally translates to "persona que llama" or person that calls. So they used "Nominador" which would be a person who designates someone/something? I'm not sure how to explain this one, but worst part is I'm not sure I would have been able to come up with anything better. Considering it has to make sense but still sound cool. Sculptors of Will - We do have a word for Shaper, "Formador", which is what is being used officially (I think). It has "Escultor" (Sculptor) as a synonym but I'm not sure why your computer would make the jump. Stone Custodians - They probably took Ward directly to Warden, which can be translated to "Guardián", which has "Custodio" as synonym, which in turn translates back to Custodian. Link Forgings - Bond translates to "Vínculo", which is easier to translate back to Link. I think that's pretty understandable, even in English they're basically the same thing. As for Forgings. Well, logically they took Smith as in, someone who forges stuff. Like in a forge. What I don't understand is why your computer translated it as the verb and not the noun. And that's it I believe. Everything else translates pretty neatly. (Actually, Windrunners translates neatly too but, polysemy)- 15 replies

I think they were talking about book 2? Anyway, I don't think there any irredeemable sins. Dalinar is working really hard to redeem his. Adolin hopefully will do his part. Sadeas never had any second thoughts. Adolin was hasty in his decision, true, but where Dalinar struggled to find what was right and do it, Sadeas was given the arguments and several chances and still didn't care. He stuck to his own ideals, which I respect, but he had it coming.

Trails of Cold Steel (and the Kiseki series in general)
Eluvianii replied to Zurvanight's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Aaaand with that my thirst for godly music is satisfied, though I probably listened to more than I intended. And regarding C. It's not that I've seen any downright spoilers, but there have been several posts from people talking about how they got spoiled one way or another, and I feel like any of those might turn into a spoiler in itself. I know I'm overreacting here, I'm paranoid, it happens whenever there's a new game. I think it's healthy to be like that for a while after a release. I'm a bit late here but I have to say, the new party looks really interesting, I mean, impossible to know without actually getting to meet them in-game, but they somehow don't look like the "My dream has always been to help people" that almost every previous protagonist has been introduced as. I'm not sure how to explain it. On a side note, I've been procrastinating on CS. I was already playing way too many games but I started Tokyo Xanadu because I have commitment issues, and I have to say, it's kind of addictive. The gameplay loop is really reminiscent of Persona but this feels more free (Persona is way too realistic in its "Do a single activity and the entire day flies by"), I love the style, and in general, urban fantasy is one of my favorite things ever and I feel like I don't see enough games along these lines. -
Have you given any thought to your future? Being a better person? Stopping eating 35 twinkies a day? Ah, you're one of them then. Well no, I don't regret my actions, but I do think the squirrel was better suited for the job.
