  1. There are several key differences between pre-TWoK Sharplate and Sharblades. First, Sharblades have a gemstone in them, but only to help in bonding them, meanwhile Shardplate cannot function without the gemstones. I think this mean that however KR Shardplate works, it will need to be powered by Stormlight while in use. Next is the dismissal and summoning of Sharblades and Shardplate. Bonded Shardblades can be dismissed and summoned at will, but plate cannot. Is it really that Plate cannot be dismissed and summoned, or has no one ever tried hard enough to bond their Shardplate? However I do think that the KR will be able to summon and dismiss their Shardplate. Especially due to the midnight essence vision Dalinar has.
  2. How long is it going to take you guys to read Oathbringer? Just trying to gauge how long I'll need to stay off the forums after I start reading.
  3. @Ironeyes, great job, that looks amazing! I don't personally play MTG, but I do enjoy great works of Cosmere art, two carapace covered, claws up! (have an upvote too!)
  4. Hey everyone. I have my manuscript copy of Aether of Night, but I'm wondering, is it worth it to read? I have so many books I want to read, and no time for them all. In this context, is Aether of Night worth reading?
  5. NO Storming Way! You're so Storming lucky! Good for you man!
  6. Ah, @Weltall You see, thousands upon thousands of years ago, Shardplate was lost to the galaxy, and they have yet to find a suit of it. (Last Jedi Spoilers) that's the main plotline of episode 8, sorry for ruining the whole movie for you, As for this @podman36, Anakin really sucks at Feruchemy. Also, mediclorians kind of mess with that sort of Investiture related magic.
  7. Thank you so much! I have been watching these and this makes it a lot easier!
  8. By the tenth name of the Almighty! Where are his storming eyebrows? (Not to mention his eyes and mouth) Just kidding! That's so storming awesome! You just made my day.
  9. Hey everyone, I think Brandon works for Lucasfilm. Think about it. Swords that can cut through anything but other swords, (SA) Pushing and pulling things to you, (Mistborn) Basically, Brandon has created the Cosmere to be a Star Wars lead up. Kaladin and Vin have a child, who possess both allomancy and surgebinding. He has a child with one of Jasnah's children, who then have a child with the descendants of the Feruchemical people. The child at this point has the power to push and pull things, cut anything he feels like, stronger than anyone else, and is probably able to feel things around him. Now, we have reached probably after Mistborn Era 3, now, in an effort to save him from the now crazed serial killer Hoid, he is taken to Tatooine, and planted with one of Odium's agents, (Yah, Odium's totally a good guy now, he just focused his hate on Hoid and turned him crazy) now, we have Anakin Skywalker. You can tell he's a descendant of Kaladin because of his last name, which was the more modern name for the Windrunners. And yes, this is totally canon, Lucas himself told me (PS, I know, Lucas doesn't run Lucasfilm anymore, that's how long this has been going on for!)
  10. Hey Val, good to have you here, have an upvote!
  11. Okay, from the Arcanum Unbounded Roshar star chart, we know that there are 10 massive gas giants. What if each of them is Damnation for a specific Herald. So Kalak goes to Braize maybe, and Taln goes to a different one, and Nale a different one, and so on? This would allow each of the planets to be its own special torture made specifically for a certain Herald. What do you think?
  12. I was introduced to TWoK by a friend of mine that mentioned it off hand and I decided to go read it. There are so many things I love about Sanderson, but one of the big ones is his originality, he can take any old trope, spin it on its head and give it new life, and everyone loves it. Another thing I love is that, as a member of the LDS Church, it's hard to find books that aren't full of dirty stuff, and Brandon's are always clean. Right now my favorite series is SA, although that could change at any point I'm probably an 8 10, definitely 10 Good luck on your paper!
  13. Yep, the math holds up, a Rosharan day is 19.3 hours. That still leaves another question, how long do you think the life expectancy on Roshar is?
  14. If I've done my calculations right, a day on Roshar must be about 19.3 hours long. Thanks, Shqueeves!
  15. You can have another upvote from me too. Also, let me expound on the cookies. When I first came on here, I was given a cookie. I ate it because no one had warned me of the danger. I quickly turned red with white veins all over me. Somehow, they have been using hemalurgically invested cookies to create more Voidbringers. I always feed any cookies I get to my parshmen first, cause ya' know, (Stormlight Spoilers Ahead) Anyway, hope you like it here!
  16. Has anyone ever noticed that Rosharan years are 500 days? I'm sure you have, so that brings up the question, how long do these storming people live? Kaladin is somewhere around 20 in TWoK and WoR. In earth years, that's approximately 27.4 years. What does this mean? Are days shorter on Roshar, compensating for the extra days? Or do people live much longer? If the life expectancy on Roshar is around what it is on earth, (let's say 80 years) Rosharan people would live to be 109.6 years old. That's an extra 30 years or life! Any ideas?
  17. Okay, I don't watch many movies, and the only MCU movie I've seen is Doctor Strange, however, I know the basic plotlines of the other movies (except for Guardians of the Galaxy) and the basic character personalities, arcs, powers, motivations, etc. I do have a few blind spots though, specifically when it comes to Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Vision, and Guardians of the Galaxy characters. I'm going to split my response into 2 categories, Favorite Characters, and Coolest Characters, with the top 3 in each. I've also limited my options to MCU heroes only. Favorite Character: Captain America (I really love how good this character is. He's always looking to help others and tries to do the right thing, even when he doesn't know what that is) Spiderman (As a high-schooler I think you can guess how I relate to Peter Parker) Doctor Strange (I really love this character's arc. He starts off so confident and self-righteous, then becomes a total wreck, then finally comes out of it confident again, but instead of self-righteousness, he's selfless.) Coolest Character: Spiderman (Being able to swing around buildings and have a built-in suit warmer? What's better than that?) Iron-Man (Having a suit of nearly indestructible armor that can fold out of a suitcase, that's pretty sweet!) Doctor Strange (Bending time and reality around me, why not?)
  18. During my WoR reread, I just found this. On page 727, where Kaladin is in prison, and Wit comes to tell the story of Fleet, he's sitting on a bench, tuning his lute (or some other stringed instrument) he says this, " 'Perfect pitch,' Wit said, 'makes this all so much easier than it once was.' " This seems to me to be a very subtle hint that Hoid has recently been to Nalthis and become an awakener. What do you think?
  19. I use a bookmark if there's one convenient. Note that I can't handle slips of paper, or tissues, or anything other than a real bookmark. If I don't have one handy, I just remember what page I'm on, which works for me because I have a really good memory. Dog-earing books? *Gasp* I would have a freak out if someone dog-eared one of my books. I'm the kind of person who likes their books in perfect condition, even after having read them 4 times.
  20. Random Question, do you read your Sanderson with the dust cover off, or on?
  21. Okay, here's my first impression of rereading this. What I got is not the same as what you guys got. So regarding the "if you are lucky" thing. From that, I got not that the perpendicularity wasn't always there, but that Hoid (aka the god) wasn't always there. So I think the perpendicularity itself is always there, but the chance of seeing Hoid as he emerges is rare. What do you guys think?
