Stormlight Healing and Suspension of Disbelief
MistbornAlpaca replied to Stormrunner1730's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is a little bit of a problem, but if you go to chp. 32 of WoR "The One Who Hates", which is the first assassination attempt Szeth makes on Dalinar, when Kaladin hits the ground after falling from the hole in the wall, his shoulder is shattered, and in this scene it describes how Kaladin feels it knit back together on the ground, and it happens extremely quickly as well. As for Szeth's healing of the punch to the face, I think that might be because he has an honorblade, not a Nahel bond. Surgebinding, as granted via honor blades, tends to use much more stormlight than a Nahel bond would, and I think that's what's going on in that scene. -
Interesting, but I like it!

You know you've read stormlight when... When storming becomes a regular part of your vocabulary When you begin looking for firespren when you start a fire while camping When regular storm clouds begin to look like a stormwall When you attempt to run off the wall because the lamp suddenly went out and you think you've sucked the Stormlight in Give me all you've got...

TWoK was the first Sanderson book I read, and really the first fantasy period (aside from Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and the Hobbit) I devoured the book, and it was wonderful! Then I read WoR, and it was great too. At that point, I didn't even know the Cosmere existed, and I still had a great time. I think all of the easter eggs and direct references actually add a depth to the series that many other books lack. Now on my pre-Oathbringer SA reread, I'm noticing all of these easter eggs, and it really adds a lot to my reading. Conclusion: Casual non-Cosmere aware readers won't be thrown out by all the easter eggs, and Cosmere fans love them. It adds another layer of meaning to SA as well that I really love.

Okay, how do are Mistborn influenced by power lines? I would imagine on the larger, full metal powerlines it would act like the spike-ways from era 1, except better, because they're everywhere! But could you potentially fly based on the powerlines? Pushing continuously on the middle wire, while using the side wires to balance and control your direction. What do you think?

19 more to go! I'm so excited I can't think straight! Don't worry, I love the smell of books too, especially old ones. However, I won't be doing that first.- 46 replies

Just wanted to give an update. My poll is now at 100 votes. It's really all about the content, not the placing of the poll on the site. Besides a hundred votes, it also has 2 full pages of replies.

Here's an idea. Please let me know if this wouldn't work. What if you were the child of a worldhopper, who had traveled to Taldain. You could potentially rewrite your past so that your parent had settled down on Taldain and had a child with a Sand Master. Maybe?

Sorry to double-post. I just opened the google sheet up for commenting, sorry it wasn't open before.

I've had much the same experience. Although I was already reading way too much when I first found him, I also loved to write, but the only fantasy book I'd really read was Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, so all of my writing was about elves, dwarves, and dangerous quests (and also a half-elf, half-dwarf race I made up) When I read TWoK, I was blown away, and suddenly my eyes were opened to what fantasy actually is. Great, story!

One of the things I dearly love about Sanderson is the realism. In too many fantasy books, nobody is at any risk of dying. This really bugs me, but in Sanderson's work, every character is just as mortal as others, and they're all at risk.

Whoops! That did the trick... mostly. I was hoping to listen to the WoR commentaries as I reread the book, but the episodes from this URL only go back to WoR chp. 59 or so, and I'm only in chapter 20. I suppose I can just download them and copy them to my device, just a little more of a pain.

I've already done my free trial, and I've already bought several audiobooks (unfortunately I had already read tWoK and WoR so I got the first 2 reckoners with my trial instead. In hindsight, I should have gotten more expensive books.) Another trick for you guys, if you buy the Kindle edition of the book first, the audiobook becomes over 50% cheaper, making the bundled deal less than just the audiobook by itself. Hey. I was just wondering if there is a feed URL for Shardcast so I can add it to my podcast software.

Hoid's Purpose in Shattering Adonalsium
MistbornAlpaca replied to MistbornAlpaca's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's why I quote her. It was meant to be a cohesive thought, "Why didn't he take a Shard, here's why 'quote'. " It probably came across wrong though. Another thought. Maybe Hoid did want a Shard. What if the Vessels offered him a Shard before they Shattered Adonalsium (led by Hoid) but then stabbed him in the back (figuratively) and didn't give him what they'd promised?- 10 replies

I only have a seasonal job, and I have school. (Although being homeschooled gives me a little more time) Happy reading! Hopefully, that works out for you. Sounds good on the double posting, I didn't even think about it. Whoops!- 46 replies

What cosmere works can you see as a good show?
MistbornAlpaca replied to Kari's question in Cosmere Q&A
Not just the Alloy of Law, but maybe the whole Era 2 Mistborn. (Or allomancer Jack, although that would be a fun Cosmere Kid Cartoon.) I agree Mistborn would make a perfect film, and Stormlight should be done later. What do you think about the idea of the SA interludes being used as fillers between books? -
Okay, I just put the rules on a Google Sheet. (Edit: I just made it commentable, please comment and tell me what you think.) The way I've imagined this as an expandable trading card game, but it could also be adapted to a stand-alone card game with expansions. I've also included the link to Trellium's rules, which you should also check out and comment on. Hopefully, you guys can understand these rules, and you like them. Please comment and let me know what you think! I would love to work together with everyone on this, especially after the main rules are hashed out. Also, please note that I did have to sacrifice some Cosmere consistency to achieve fun gameplay, but tell me if you see a better solution. My Rules Trellium's Rules

You get 2 credits when you sign up. Audible is what I use when I buy audiobooks, but first I tend to see if the library has it first. (mine usually has the ones I want ) I've almost subscribed to the Audible membership a few time, but I can't bring myself to do it. Is it worth it?- 46 replies
