What cosmere works can you see as a good show?
MistbornAlpaca replied to Kari's question in Cosmere Q&A
I could see Mistborn as well, but I personally am not a fan of anime. Personally, I think Stormlight with the budget of Game of Thrones would make a fantastic TV show. The only problem is that it would soon progress past the point that the books are up too, and they would have to put it on hold, or do something else to bide their time. (Maybe they could have the interludes not be a regular part, but use them to fill the gaps between books?) -
Hey, everyone! I've been thinking about this for a while, and have a pretty solid set of rules so far. I'll write them up later today in a Google Sheet and post the link here for you guys. The basic idea though is that there are 3 realms, Physical, Cognitive, and Spiritual. The main way to win is to have control of 2 of the 3 realms. I have a few ideas on how this would work, but I'll put that on the google doc later. Now on how resources work. So, you have 2 decks, the main deck (Characters, etc.) and the resource deck. The resource deck is full of whatever kind of resource your deck uses (breaths, stormlight, metals, etc.) There are 2 types of resources, streams, and stores. Streams are continuous cards, that you play from your hand and they tap each turn like a Magic the Gathering land. Stores are cards like metals, that you discard after use. I'll put the google doc link up later, let me know what you think? (Just a quick note. Many of these ideas came from another thread I created, and these rules are a collaborative effort, between me, Lord Maelstrom, and Trellium. There are a number of things about their various systems that didn't sit quite right with me, so I've taken some of them to add to my own system)

Okay, first off, this thread will make a lot more sense if you read my theory that it's based off. However, I will provide a basic explanation here. My theory is that Hoid was the mastermind behind the Shattering. We also know that he was offered a Shard, and refused it. Now, here's the question. If he decided to shatter Adonalsium but refused a Shard, there are only a few possibilities as to his motives. This would say that it wasn't for power unless he had a change of heart between the Shattering and the time he was offered a Shard. So, what was his motive? Could Adonalsium have seemed threatening to him in a way we don't understand? What do you guys think?

First Thing You're Going to do With Oathbringer
MistbornAlpaca replied to MistbornAlpaca's topic in Stormlight Archive
Audiobook? Probably too expensive though, at least for me. It's a rare luxury. Unless the library happens to have it. But they definitely won't have Oathbringer as soon as I need to read it.- 46 replies

Hey! just wanted to let everyone know I exist! I would also like to say that despite having read Sanderson for a number of years, and knowing that the Cosmere existed, it's only been in the last few months that I've really dug deep into the lore of this wonderful universe, thus I'm not up to date as of yet, so If you see one of my posts, feel free to comment and tell me that my information is outdated at best, and possibly totally made up .

Is there a way to change your vote in a poll? I feel like if there isn't, there should be one, but maybe with a limit. I don't know how difficult that would be to do, but I think it's worth the effort.
-
I'm kicking myself that I forgot to put forger on there. I just added it, so we'll see how many votes it gets though, as it's a little bit of a disadvantage now.

First Thing You're Going to do With Oathbringer
MistbornAlpaca replied to MistbornAlpaca's topic in Stormlight Archive
I personally will probably feel the cover in all its glory, then read the prologue maybe? Then after the prologue, I'll look at all of the art (Because I love SA art ) Who knows though, I can't say for sure until I open that box...- 46 replies

Hey everyone. I know we're all excited for Oathbringer What are you all going to do the moment you open the box that came in the mail, that contains that beautiful, hardcover book? Will you scream with joy, and let the cake burn in the oven while you glory over the embossed cover? Will you jump in and start reading immediately, missing five important phone calls, but you don't even care? Does UPS come later at your house, so that at 10 pm, you'll scream with joy, awakening your dog (not like that) and not even caring that no work will get done the following day because you stayed up until 4 am reading?

Oooooh! I like this idea, but something tells me it's a little far-fetched, but who knows? Maybe it will happen. Exactly what I was thinking. Great minds think alike!

Here's my own theory on the Hoid/Adonalsium Relationship.
-
Okay, here's what I'm basing this theory on. First, from what I understand, we know that Hoid was present, at the Shattering of Adonalsium. Next, we know that Hoid was offered a Shard, and refused to take it. (please note that this is my personal understanding, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) Now, here's my evidence. This all comes from the chapter heading of Part 4 of WoR. These chapter headings are a letter from Frost to Hoid, in reply to Hoid's letter to Frost, through the chapter headings of one of the parts of TWoK. Here are my quotes: "Is not the destruction we have wrought enough? The worlds you now tread bear the touch and design of Adonalsium. Our interference so far has brought nothing but pain." (Chapter 66, "Stormblessings") This seems to me to be Frost expressing grief over causing the Shattering of Adonalsium. Because what else would happen if your God was killed, than chaos? "However, it seems to me that all things have been set up for a purpose, and if we--as infants-- stumble through the workshop, we risk exacerbating, not preventing, a problem." (Chapter 68, "Bridges") This, to me, seems to imply that they countered Adonalsium's diving design, in shattering him. "He bears the weight of God's own diving hatred, separated from the virtues that gave it context. He is what we made him to be, old friend. And that is what he, unfortunately, wished to become. (Chapter 71, "Vigil") This I think, is the most telling of the quotes. "He is what we made him to be..." How else would they have made Rayse full of hatred, than Shattering Adonalsium, and giving him the Shard of Odium? You, however, have never been a force for equilibrium. You tow chaos behind you like a corpse dragged by one leg through the snow. Please, hearken to my plea. Leave that place and join me in my oath of nonintervention. (Chapter 74, "Striding the Storm") Let me refer back to the first quote, "Our interference has brought nothing but pain." Although this could be referring in general, to Hoid's interference in important events, but based on the context and the other quotes, I'm going to go with he sowed chaos by Shattering Adonalsium. More Implications: If Hoid directly shattered Adonalsium, with the help of Frost, and neither of them received a Shard (I'm assuming Frost isn't a Shard), then it was in order to prevent some terrible thing from happening, not to grow in power. (Although I'm sure that those who helped him had that as at least a secondary motive.) Conclusion: Hoid shattered Adonalsium, with the help of Frost.

I think personally it really depends on what the poll is about. I did a poll a while ago (a week or two) about what Cosmere power you would rather have. This poll has received over 80 votes and is still receiving more. I think it just depends on the content of the poll.

I originally really liked this theory, but after doing some research (I figured the best place would be the letters from Hoid to Frost and from Frost to Hoid through the chapter headings of Stormlight books) I think I've found some evidence that severely discredits this theory. This evidence comes from the chapter heading of chapter 66 of WoR, "Stormblessings". This continues Frost's letter back to Hoid, here's the quote: "Is not the destruction we have wrought enough? The worlds you now tread bear the touch and design of Adonalsium. Our interference so far has brought nothing but pain." Summary: Although this could also be referring to Adonalsium merely as a power, I see it as being a separate thing, and the wording leads me to believe that Hoid (nor Frost) is nor was, Adonalsium.

I suppose I intended for that to be encompassed by Hemalurgic powers. Although technically, having the right Hemalurgic spikes doesn't make one a kandra. My definition of power with this was something that would modify a normal human, whereas kandra are a totally separate race.

I love where this discussion went. After all of these points, I totally agree that Feruchemy is the most versatile. And binge-watching, that's a great point. However, at what point would you be able to store sight and not inconvenience yourself? Same with health. Although, I still agree. Although if I had a ready source of infinite Stormlight, I would prefer Surgebinding, in the modern world however, I think Feruchemy is the best. (I would also never fail a test )

Top 10 theories going into Oathbringer

I'm a little low on Cosmere knowledge myself, but based on what I know and understand, I really like this theory

Thanks! I don't honestly know. Just a lot of websites have apps (or in some cases a lot of apps have websites) and many people are very opinionated about which is better, the app or the website. Another thing is just that you could have notifications on your phone through the app, but I suppose having email notification on produces almost the same effect. I totally agree with you that if there was an app, it would have to add something to the experience, not just be a website duplicate.
-
I totally understand/believe you. Just wondering what people would think about this. Don't worry, I love the site, and it's actually a pretty dang amazing site! Like I said above, I was just wondering what you guys would think about it.

Just throwing this out there, there should totally be a 17th Shard app. I'm sure there are some Sharder developers out there who could do this. What do you guys think?

Most Wanted Oathbringer Scene
MistbornAlpaca replied to MistbornAlpaca's topic in Stormlight Archive
I guess I kind of took it for granted that we're going to get a Nightblood and Szeth and conversation, and that we would get a Dalinar flashback with the Nightwatcher. Whoops! -
This is 3 or 4 questions in one, so bear with me here. I'm sure someone else has noticed this, but I just started rereading WoR, and on the page that has sketches of Bridge Four's tattoos, there's a note that reads, "I had to spend hours watching bridgemen to sketch their stupid forehead glyphs so you could have them, my friend. I'm pretty sure this is how they were designed. -Nazh" So, Nazh is on Roshar during WoR. Do we know which character he is posing as/does he appear on screen? Also, why does Khriss(I'm assuming he's writing to Khriss, but correct me if I'm wrong) want to see the glyphs of Bridge Four? By these sketches, Nazh also seems to be fairly talented at art, is there any other Cosmere art we know of that's drawn by him?

Okay, here's the game. Someone writes a would you rather, (e.g would you rather be swallowed by a Chasmfiend, or be soulcast into fire.) The next person responds with their choice, and posts a new would you rather question. Here's mine: Would you rather be flung into the air by your steel-toed boots and impaled by a blunt steel arrow, or be eaten by a Chasmfiend, come out the other end, and be washed down a chasm by a Highstorm, killed by blunt trauma?
