  1. Probably. That definitely sounds like something he'd do. Curse him, he's always one step ahead.
  2. Just joking
  3. Aussie Ooklas, rise forth!
  4. Me? Why I'd never. It must have been that darned Sudiov again! Curse you SUDIOV!!!!
  5. Lo and behold, our first summary is complete. I nominate Mac does all future summaries given how well he did this one.
  6. Well then, even less reason to attack the DA. We definitely don't cause the tides. *Whispers offscreen* "Guys, quick, hide the giant pumps and tide generators. They might be onto us."
  7. It's like the moon, sure you can't destroy it, but it's also not exactly doing anything to you so why would you want to?
  8. I tried to avoid giving anyone a reason to fight the DA, but I don't want to retcon a bunch of previous worldbuilding or make previous characters obsolete without their writers permission. When the setting was established I was as clear as I could be about this but I have a lot of friends who put a lot of effort into worldbuilding and characters and I don't want to step all over that. In a practical sense this is no different for the DA than it is any other guild, if you try to destroy TUBA then you need their permission, same as if you want to kill a character. The only difference with the DA is that there's an in-world justification for this. So yes they're OP, but with the lack of interaction or duels I hope that we've avoided the problem of an arms race or stifling character development.
  9. If you send a giant army and a supertank into the city where a bunch of superpowered morally ambiguous DA lurkers live you shouldn't be surprised when one of them steps out to deal with it. I asked Mac to do that. I did make this clear at the creation of the RP, the DA was never intended to be balanced, so we don't engage in duels or go after other guilds or directly interfere much but we're also not going to sit by if someone invades our base.
  10. Mac generally abides by the DAs restrictions of not intervening too much other than to reduce the casualties of other OP armies/characters. Other than the GB ball I can't think of any time he's intervened that hasn't just been a defense of the DA.
  11. I'm a little torn on whether or not Voidus should participate if that happens. I do have a plan that makes things a little easier (If anyone ever decides to let him out of the barrier that is) but even so.
  12. I'm not a huge fan of character ascension to actual godhood. Even Shards aren't actually gods. In addition it means that functionally they're adding their portfolio to their authors. Maybe something like a demi-god that has a subset of their authors domain? Voidus hadn't actually noticed that one, but joined in after he did. He was also confusing himself with which perspective I was writing in. Ah well.
  13. Yeah that I'm fine with, I just wouldn't want to claim credit for creation and minimize the contributions of dozens of other people. The location of the pantheon itself should probably be relatively, if not completely, inaccessible by characters. I think someone suggested the Beyond, that's probably my preference to limit undue influence. I do like the meta-story implications of having characters interact with their writers, but if overdone it could lead to some problems, and also makes it less interesting. All things in moderation and all that.
  14. I'm not opposed to space exploration even now, but the giant sci-fi armadas are a little problematic.
  15. Well the character of Voidus could conceivably have that title, but as for me I wouldn't say I've done that much monumentally in terms of creation. I'm the oldest member of the Alleyverse as both character and player but it's always been collaborative. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a title like that for myself.
  16. "Darn it Meta! Just when I'd finally won. Alright, I concede that this is possible."
  17. Welcome to the forums! Any standout favourites of Brandons books so far? And can I interest you in a welcome-cookie?
  18. "I'm just somewhat attached to it. As may have been evident by the bestiary of DA Hemalurgic creations I made for the sdw, I'm particularly fond of creating new creatures of a fantastical nature."
  19. Some more responses: This definitely needs to be revisited by the entire group I think, first thought that came to mind for me is something along the lines of a point buy system, where there are a certain number of points that are allocated at character creation, different abilities cost different amounts. (These need not necessarily be restricted to Investiture either, having a certain position of power in a Guild might require points, as might being a highly trained swordsman, gunslinger, etc.). Certain characters might be allowed who are a little outside of this realm, either for story purposes or just because the concept is good, or possibly as something like a reward for particularly helpful members of the community. (eg. Meta for all their work on the wiki, or if someone volunteers for doing summaries, or Archer for keeping track of characters profiles) Just wanted to address something with my views of tabletops here, creating the most powerful character is certainly one way to play the game, and it does encourage this to some degree with the way that these games usually lean towards combat as a means of combat resolution. But just as, if not more people try to create interesting characters, either something contradictory (A Tiefling Cleric), absurd (A tiny gnome Barbarian wielding a giant warhammer) or just fun (I am currently making a character called Jack who will take one level in every class, it is definitely not optimized for combat but I want to see if it's possible). I'm not trying to be contradictory here, just point out that even in heavily combat focussed games, sometimes the best characters are not the ones who are the best at combat. And even then, the characters who are good in combat are usually good at one particular thing, a tank with an absurdly high AC who never gets hit, but they're not particularly great at dealing damage, or a wizard with the most damaging fireball you've ever seen but has no armour and all the hp of a rabbit.
  20. In the cognitive realm, the detainment unit waited, it's eyes distant as it seemed to be contemplating something. "Did that just..." It's whisper trailed off as it shook its head. It turned back to face the two before it. "I apologize for my distracted appearance. Please feel free to go about your business. I will accompany you." It lowered its head a fraction and gave a small bow.
  21. "You mean like the Phoenix I created as a character?" I firmed my expression, not willing to give ground on this. "I even have a whole portfolio of fantastical creatures to add to the Alleyverse, there hasn't been a lot of time for some of them but we'll get there."
  22. "Oh." Laurelai looked up in surprise. "Um, yes of course I'd be happy to." She hadn't expected to be personally called upon, she was still new to the Dark Alley. Sure some of the people had taken an interest in her Boon and her experience with Forgery was very helpful in understanding some of the more complex experiments going on. But still, to be singled out for her experience... She grinned broadly as she replied. "Lead the way."
