  1. Yay! Good timing too, my internet finally got fixed, time to spend several sleepless nights editing
  2. There are a few quotes on this, but yes we do it was before any of his books were published.
  3. I assume you meant that once burned Atium reforms in the geodes Lerasium is not passed down to your children? When ingested Lerasium doesn't stay in your body, it is burned by people, turning them into Mistborn by changing their sDNA, it is this sDNA which is passed onto their children not the actual Lerasium. I also don't see any reason that there have to be equal amounts of Atium and Lerasium in the world since all that would do is alter the relative strength of the two aspects. Sazed might be slightly more of Preservation since a tiny amount of Ruins power is stored in the form of Atium but I doubt it would be that significant.
  4. Possibly but that kind of goes against the concept of Duralumin and Nicrosil a bit but really other than that I can't think about what would be different other than maybe chaining to multiple people? so if you touch someone who is touching someone who is touching someone then all of them would lose their metals but a situation that requires that is going to be so rare that it's pretty useless, anyone else got any ideas?
  5. I didn't even think about that! I think that being able to soulcast that well would take some practise but even so, much faster and given that the Shattered plains are where most Soulcasters are these days they do have access to gemhearts with near limitless soulcasting potential.
  6. Yeah equipping everyone with half-Shards is somewhat cost prohibitive as they require an infused gemstone (presumably one of reasonably significant size) to work, they are actually more useful than ordinary shields even against ordinary weapons as they work by enhancing the durability of the metal, but still way too expensive to give to everyone. I still think Crossbows are the way to go but there is a bit of the same problem, they are quite expensive to make and less practical to use against other opponents, I think that the best idea is to have er... Shardkillers? Stormslayers? equipped with alternating crossbows and pikes or possibly halfshards if you can afford them. But then if you can afford halfshards you can probably afford soulcasters which IMO is a much more effective way to deal with them.
  7. Actually I'm curious now as to what Duralumin or Nicrosil would do to Aluminum or Chromium, I can't really imagine how you could alter the strength of those, I'm particularly interested in Aluminum as I feel sorry for all the poor Aluminum gnats.
  8. I'm guessing you wanted this And possibly this So it doesn't seem like any more Atium will form naturally
  9. Well when the army comes through they mention that if you distinguish yourself you could gain an increase in rank of one nahn for you and your children, my guess would be that it would be inherited from the parent of your gender, except in the case of a lighteyes marrying a darkeyes as any darkeyed children would have a nahn rank and any lighteyed children would have the dahn rank.
  10. Yeah I think that bendalloy with Duralumin/Nicrosil wouldn't be particularly helpful except possibly in the future as it is speculated to be part of the mechanism for FTL travel, depending on how the deflection of objects changes it may be more effective as a shield against bullets but I honestly have no idea about how that would change
  11. I doubt that non-KRs can have more than two abilities as Szeth still only has the two abilities of the Windrunner orders, and actually there are no KRs alive in the present so if it were possible then Kaladin, Shallan, Szeth and Jasnah would all be able to use multiple abilities. As for why, presumably a similar reason that on Scadrial you can only get 1 or all of the allomantic abilities. On Shallan and Jasnah, the general consensus is that they are in different orders and also it is not confirmed that Shallans Memories are the result of a Surge.
  12. I doubt that Shallans Memories are a Surge primarily because she doesn't need to draw stormlight in order to use it, additionally since Jasnah has studied the KR abilities she would probably recognise it if it were surge-related.
  13. Duralumin + Copper would probably increase the copper twofold. Both in strength (Difficulty in piercing coppercloud) and range (Area covered), possibly extending the protection from emotional allomancy too but I doubt that one as it's more a matter of skill than strength from what I can gather. Duralumin + Electrum would be as Duralumin and Atium, showing you the results of your own actions (Although I'm not sure if Electrum enhances your mental capacity as Atium does so it's possible you would just have a stroke or something ) Duralumin + Malatium, My guess is that it would show you all possible versions of a person from any decisions they have made. Duralumin + Nicrosil would burn all the Nicrosil instantly which could either multiply the effect of Nicrosil on other metals (As in this would be to ordinary Nicrosil as Nicrosil is to ordinary burning) or possibly increase the area of effect of the Nicrosil (A Nicrocloud?) Duralumin + Bendalloy/Cadmium My guess here is that it would increase both the size of the bubble and the distortion of time although it could be one or the other, we don't quite have enough information on this. EDIT: Actually on reflection I'm not sure that strength would affect the range of a metal as otherwise all of Luthadel would be affected by TLRs soothing, I can't think of an example where anyone demonstrates superior allomantic range, so my guess would be that copper would just be harder to pierce, Nicrosil would just increase others metals even moreso and the temporal metals would just distort time even more
  14. Actually I think that the fact that even a tiny shard can be fed stormlight is pretty substantial evidence that the Plate did not have dedicated slots like other Fabrials, they can be fed Stormlight simply from nearby sources, perhaps the Glyphs on the Plate was a sign from honor providing a constant feed of Stormlight to the Plate and the gems on the inside were for the Radiants since Plate seems to block infusion of Stormlight, probably also explains why Szeth doesn't wear Plate, he's not as adept at utilizing Stormlight and needs more so he can't be blocked from it by Plate, that as well as the it blocking his movement thing. I would definitely support this theory with these minor adaptions.
  15. I'm about the same, I usually get through 1 or 2 in a day, although I tend to lag a bit in the middle of WoT readthroughs so it usually takes more like 1.5-2 weeks unless I start speedreading, but I find that I don't retain anywhere near enough information if I do that. Anyway to be on topic a little bit, definitely read through the whole series, there is way too much backstory to jump in at the end.
  16. Let me put forth something that ties this all together a bit more and allows for different Surgebinders from the same family. There is some genetic/environmental factor which influences your drive to act upon your personality traits, this allows the personality to be different and so their order to be different but still explains why it seems to me that Gavillars relatives seem to have a lot of Surgebinders in them. I think that as it's already been mentioned that it is your actions that attract the spren not just your personality you would still need this.
  17. I think that's the quote you're looking for, it's a bit of a problem but I think there's probably still some genetic component, as you say it's probably just a genetic influence on your personality but we are also pretty sure that Elhokar is a Surgebinder and he's related to Jasnah so it is at least a possibility that it can influence it quite strongly. Interesting point on the Devotaries I wouldn't take this as conclusive on anything as we do know that Shallans father was fairly controlling all of her life.
  18. On this argument the main point to consider I think is when Vin powers allomancy as Preservation and Brandons comment on the Shards powering magis. If they were hesitant to do so that means that that must not be what Preservation is always doing, and so the power that fuels allomancy comes from some other source, on top of this where then does the power now come from for Aons and Surgebinding? Aona and Honor have both been Splintered so it can't be coming from them. EDIT: sorry, one additional problem that I have, if the Dhakor are using a system powered by Dominion then it cannot be the same power source as AonDor, they cannot be accessing the Dor and yet we know that it has been mentioned multiple times that both Aons and Dhakor magic come from the Dor, so either they are both powered by the same Shard (unlikely) or the Dor (power of creation) is something that is accessed independently of which Shard gave the magic.
  19. I think that's the quote you were looking for. I agree with Windrunner on this, it's likely just because their family suddenly owning a Shardblade would cause a whole lot of questions also because the next book is going to be about her and she has some KR powers she is probably going to start using it which I cannot wait for. XD
  20. Right then so it looks like this could be an excellent solution, using embedded fabrials to support the bridge instead of ropes they would be much harder to destroy especially as siege weaponry is definitely not possible from the Parshendi. Come to think of mobile bridges could still be possible but with the bridge crew supporting it with a Fabrial from much further back (They hold a much lighter mock-bridge with a conjoined ruby(ies) to the real Bridge that way they could be a good few hundred metres back and much safer from Parshendi arrows, they can get the bridges in place before the rest of the army gets close as well for a much faster assault
  21. I don't think that that would Increase Endowments power any more than every Highstorm increases Honors power by creating more Stormlight, especially since Breaths are created every time someone is Born, if every old person on Nalthis gave away their Breaths when they died you would eventually have a LOT more Breaths, especially if the population starts growing as well. I think that because Endowment doesn't spend any energy to create Breaths (I always saw it as just an affect on the people there due to a Shards presence) that there wouldn't be an increase of power if more Shards were created. I definitely agree that this would be a problem if a Returned did it but I don't think so for ordinary Breaths.
  22. Yeah I'm trying to think of military applications as those are the kind of fabrials we are likely to see, I had a thought about using that levitation idea for the bridges at the Shattered Plain, come to think of it did we ever get an answer as to why there aren't more permanent bridges?
  23. Maybe you could do the same as Feruchemy compounders and as soon as you have the extra Breaths endow them into something else or someone else.
  24. I think that considering the only Soulcasting property of Amethyst is Metal it is unlikely that it can easily create any metal, I think Foil is almost certainly one specific type of Metal.
  25. Works on Feruchemy which is half preservations enemy, I don't think Preservation gets a say in what allomancy affects much. Also the power doesn't come from preservation, at least not in an expendable way, Preservation CAN fuel allomancy but it doesn't always as doing so 'expends power in a way that Shards are usually unwilling to do' it comes from somewhere else. @Windrunner, I imagine that if you tried to compound a Divine Breath something like this would probably happen, normal Breaths aren't Splinters though so they wouldn't increase Endowments powers.
