I just noticed a problem, in a few of the illustrated defences the smaller circles have two intersecting lines of forbiddance to stablise the wardings, but given that they project their forcefields above them, it'd be impossible for them to intersect.
-
Well you also wouldn't be able to counterattack, you'd protect the army that's there but then they'd just be overrun.
-
Does anyone know when/if there'll be international versions of the ebook? Only available in the US for now

Look guys, if you guys Keep Venture-ing to make these puns then no one is going to Vin, can't we just take a rest for a few Knights? Then we can all Surge back in with the puns, although I don't know why you'd Invest so much of your time.

Cosmere stuff? (please no spoilers)
Voidus replied to HemalurgyIsMessy's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah a lot of the mentions in the books are unlikely to be noticed unless you already know a bit about the cosmere, once you know a few general bits you can pick up most of the book references, although because it's Brandon you can be sure there's always going to be some incredibly complex bit of verbal trickery where he revealed something without any of us catching it. Hope you enjoy your read through and good on you for trying to figure it out for yourself first! -
Really? I was sure there was some kind of spoiler policy, because I was going to do one for Emperor's Soul, hmm must have been confusing with another wiki or something :S
-
I think we generally wait for a while after release before doing too much in the wiki, to avoid spoilers and whatnot.

Given that things like blood flow, metabolism, etc. obviously keep up when Steel is tapped I'd say you could probably think of it as having limited temporal effects, speeding up all those aspects, plus muscle speed. But then because it's limited we wouldn't necessarily see effects like gravitational falling being faster for someone tapping speed, although that might cause balance issues, since running involves a certain amount of letting gravity pull you down, your gait would be way off while tapping speed otherwise.

Hey no offense taken, pretty much half of my posts are me criticising theories, I'd be a bit of a hypocrite if I couldn't take it as well Copper was something I actually meant to include in my last post, must have forgotten but yeah, I meant to raise an alternative since it's the primary effect of copper which causes a permanent change (Storing a memory, permanently makes you lose it, tapping a memory makes you permanently gain it) wheras with gold, after you stop tapping the primary attribute (Health) flow is stopped, the secondary effects of that (limbs regrowing, etc.) remain afterwards. But yeah, nicely phrased and I think we're on the same level.
-
That's not really a good example, the regrown limb is a secondary effect of tapping health, kind of like if you tap speed then run fast you'll still be in the place you've run to, that's not really a permanent feruchemical effect though.
-
Feruchemical abilities are split up realmatically, Physical, Spitirual and Cognitive unlike allomancies quadrants, Steel is Physical.

I figured it'd just be a pewter drag, but like 500x worse.
-
Oh I agree, just casually using pewter wouldn't help, otherwise Vin would be rather less slight of frame by HoA I just meant that there is a known mechanism for power causing physical changes to the body, you'd just need a heck of a lot of pewter for it.
-
Ruins prison was formed out of his Cognitive aspect, not Spiritual power.
-
TLR held the full power through the WoA. And no, that was a direct quote from Brandon, found here.
-
-
No it's not, but we do have Savantism for physical change.
-
You're assuming that you wouldn't have any memory either way, there's a magic system in another cosmere book quite similar to how you describe Identity and memory remains afterwards.

The anti-vanishers 10 pts- 10x Aluminium mistings Eat all of the vanishers guns, burn the Aluminium to make room for more.

Compounding memory would actually do something it was in the same quote about aluminum not being useful when compounded. I think the Terris confusion over Aluminum would be more likely because they hadn't discovered the whole being able to tap other people's metalminds thing yet and other than that it might be of questionable usefulness, I actually think that your theory would be less mysterious, sure without also being an augur they wouldn't be able to know the specific outcomes in advance butit's a pretty obvious effect, not much mystery to it.
-
Scholar extraordinaire! Still able to read excellently and maintain a great memory well past most others
-
I actually have a few points about gnats as well, it has been somewhat implied that some of them aren't as useless as we may think, Aluminum for example might be able to destroy toxins in the body, rather than just metals, or protect from investiture, or all manner of other helpful traits. Duralumin while possibly not useful by itself is useful with any other allomantic ability, and extraordinarily useful at that. Gold allomancy is kind of regarded as useless but as we've seen with Cadmium sometimes people's perceptions are off, miles makes use of gold allomancy quite well. Oracles would still be useful even without Zinc feruchemy, mental speed would only be as helpful to an oracle as it would be to anyone else, it would just seem more helpful because they already have increased reaction time, and Zinc would just make it even more so. On feruchemical speed I'm not sure what you're trying to say, feruchemical Steel is freuqently used without Zinc and they get along fine, Sazed mentions depleting his speed a few times but doesn't mention anything about his Zincminds. Feruchemy generally protects you against it's own harmful effects so I imagine reaction time is increased with Speed as well to a certain extent. As for what I think Aluminum does feruchemically I'd have to say I'm not entirely sure but pretty much just your awareness of your identity, someone tapping Identity would be relatively uncertain about all of their actions, while someone tapping it would be very firm in their resolve, etc. there have also been some implications that storing enough identity might enable you to tap someone else's metalminds. Although IIRC Brandon has also said compounding Aluminum would pretty much do nothing so I'm not that certain about my ideas on how it'd work, then again maybe I'm just a truesef accidentally storing

Actually come to think of it, this probably wouldn't even work with Hemalurgy, same problem as with a coppermind once you take a memory out it starts to degrade again, you might be able to briefly use an ability without a spike but since your body doesn't actually have the spike providing the support for the extra piece of spiritweb you'd probably lose the Investiture once you stopped tapping, which is still kind of useful for an antagonist, if this weren't a permanent type thing and you could store a few hours' worth of hemalurgic investiture and then later not need your spikes for a few hours.
