Why Joel didn't become a Rithmatist (spoilers)
Voidus replied to blackmagic3's topic in The Rithmatist
Ha I actually like the idea that the coin had something to do with it, we already have a bit of a tie in with gears being related to the origin of rithmatics. -
Your Unspecialties or Undesirable Specialties...
Voidus replied to Iredomi's topic in General Discussion
neck, eyes and ears for me. I'm not too bad with neckties and such, as long as I put it on myself, nearly hit someone once when they tried to help me with it though. -
That's a really good point, I wasn't thinking of allomantic atium as being in terms of Ruin+Preservation As for how compounding works with temporal feruchemy, that's because compounding is inherently allomantic, you're burning the metal as though it were an allomantic metal, just with a different power than the other 16 metals.

Your Unspecialties or Undesirable Specialties...
Voidus replied to Iredomi's topic in General Discussion
Ditto on that, mines quite pronounced and more suffocation than choking though, I get massive freakouts when anything's near my face. -
Well there is something to be investigated, we have WoB that Atium alloys grant various Temporal abilities and it was even mistaken for belonging to that quadrant, which is interesting considering Ruins own limited amount of foresight compared to Preservation, and we know that Lerasium alloys grant Enhancement effects, namely making people mistings for the most part. So there is definitely room for speculation on why Lerasium seems to be enhancement-y and Ruin is Temporal-y, especially since Hemalurgy is far more about enhancing abilities and Preservation is better at seeing the future. So what's going on here?

Who else wanted to know about the Bel Tine Festival?
Voidus replied to Sodalis's topic in The Wheel of Time
Well obviously Tuon and Arthur Hawkwing meeting, but that's been said to death by WoT fans, other than that, Spook after the events of HoA. -
I started AoL the night before an exam at around 10, finished at like 5 and then had 30 minutes of sleep. And then I nearly started going into realmatics in the middle of a gravity problem in the exam. That was rather awkward.

We can keep citing stuff from the books all day long but it gets to a point where it's a bit pointless, there will always be a little bit of room to manoeuvre around and keep a theory, unless it's specifically shut down by direct word of Brandon, but at the moment you have to jump through an awful lot of hoops to keep this theory going, we're basically down to, only direct use of allomantic force affecting atium, some secret code between TLR and his obligators to keep a secret that isn't necessary, no one who ever had a viewpoint being aware of this secret, including apparently Ruin or Marsh, neither of whom mentioned anything like this, or Harmony after his ascension, who might have wanted to point something like this out, even if in a general way. Brandon doing some mental gymnastics to keep his answers deliberately confusing, which isn't really in his style, he can give some tricky answers sometimes but I seriously doubt he'd continuously switch his definition of 'Atium' just to hide a secret which doesn't really seem to matter that much. It gets to the point where it's kind of pointless to discuss as a theory, as it stands it is hugely unlikely that this is the case.

You're essentially saying the same thing we are now, that it's not the allomancy that's important, it's the effect of that allomancy on the geode causing it to shatter, merely using Allomancy in the vicinity isn't enough, even using allomancy in a way that kind of targets the geode (The blue lines) isn't enough, you need to exert a force on them. As for why they don't just pull the beads out anyway, that's because they'd get exactly one crop out of that, then need to wait a few centuries for the crystals to regenerate, while they're not shattered they seem to provide a relatively steady output, when they get shattered that stops until they regrow.

Even when Kel does burn Iron it's not until he actually pulls on the geodes that they crack, so it's definitely reacting to the force of the pull, not the allomancy.

Nicely spotted, I think we had a thread about that a while back where we tried to tie it in with some other books, you're sort of right in that it's similar to what Ruin and Preservation use, there was a fair bit of discussion about it but Brandon cleared things up a bit in a QandA a while back IIRC. I'd probably go with Warbreaker first, there is a bit of the three realms stuff in Emperor's soul but personally I think it's better after reading the other cosmere books and reading a few interviews for extra goodies.
-
I can see that, but given what we've seen so far you'd still not be able to cross one of the lines, since you deliberately drew it as a line of Forbiddance, even if it's part of a larger whole, you can't cross the lines to finish a defense on the other side, even if you view the defense as a larger whole including those lines.
-
Since they project an upwards field, if you drew a line of forbiddance on like the underside of a pole or something, you could use it to create a shield against Chalklings that they wouldn't be able to chew through.
-
Now Observer that's a little harsh, I'm just Chalkling that up to stress. But you should take a vacation or something, you know get a little Sunmaker, a nice Breeze.
-
Yes but then you've conceptualised an entirely different symbol, it's no longer two intersecting lines of forbiddance which means they couldn't have that effect.
-
I don't see how your intent could cause a delayed reaction, otherwise that removes a massive obstacle to just surrounding yourself with lines of forbiddance. Maybe if you could draw them both without taking your chalk off, but I don't think that's even possible without compromising your Warding then.
-
If the boxes were all done in one motion though, there shouldn't be weak spots there.
-
Lines of forbiddance don't really have that much of a repulsive range though, not if you can put your fingers through the gaps perfectly fine. I just think it would be better to use the same lines as used for the main line of warding four-point.
-
Lines of Warding don't project fields upwards though, do they? The two lines thing was the only answer I could think of, but then it kindof defeats the purpose of stabilising the warding since it only goes through a single point, good for an anchor but it wouldn't strengthen the defence.
-
I think we've covered every aspect I can think of, cos Mare Sharders like us can't keep producing puns at this rate. EDIT: sorry, cosmere* Sharders like us
-
actually, thinking about it, they'd just be as sharp as the line is thick really, which means you might be able to make a lightsaber out of one, but since thickness also determines height it'd be more like a breadknife
-
Yeah the Mark's cross thing sounds familiar, it's also featured in the illustration of the Matson defence.
-
I always liked how WoT handled it, Dumai's Well would have been way less dramatic if we'd been acclimatized to that scale of violence already.
-
The height is determined by its thickness IIRC, but at least head high on a person, not sure how it'd work as a lightsaber since we don't know how sharp the edges are.
