Any other Aussies having trouble finding a copy?
Voidus replied to Sh3phrd's topic in Stormlight Archive
Worked it out, thanks. Yay! -
Does anyone know how to get the hardcover in Sydney today?
Voidus replied to blackmagic3's topic in Stormlight Archive
I got AMOL before most people in the US did because of the time difference, but yeah I hate it when we get delayed release dates. Aussie Sandersans united in our hatred of delayed cosmere materials -

I'm still getting a pre-order option only on Kobo says it's released on the 6th, someone help me before I die from jealousy please! -
And then Lift saved the day with her Awesomeness and then slid away because Awesomeness is Awesome.

Late release all across Australia unfortunately, 6th I think, I ordered a copy online I'm hoping that'll get here slightly earlier but other than that your only hope is if some store just ignores the release date. -
AAAAAAH! damnation you Australian delayed release dates! I want it now storm it!

Theory: Shardblades Barely Harm Infused Surgebinders
Voidus replied to Moogle's topic in Stormlight Archive
Mobility is one way to avoid it, but if Jasnah has the Travel Surge then she has Szeth beat by a long way in mobility, teleporting is kind of the ultimate in that regard. Also putting a brick wall in between you and them is another way to avoid it, or incinerating them with fire, creating explosions of smoke would be handy for a getaway if you weren't interested in fighting, or heck just incasing them completely in stone, the Blade might be able to cut through it but that's not very helpful when you can't move the blade... -
Theory: Shardblades Barely Harm Infused Surgebinders
Voidus replied to Moogle's topic in Stormlight Archive
Considering that a majority of the main cast are going to be Surgebinders in all likelyhood I don't see them all as needing Plate for protection, look at Szeth? I don't even know how many Shardbearers he's mowed through with impunity, they might be more of a threat to him than regular soldiers but Surgebinders are still in a league of their own even without protection from Blades -
Come on guys, a little more enthusiasm! We have to Honor these puns, the Endowment of cosmere-punning ability shows our Devotion towards the Preservation of truly terrific humour! So let's not Ruin all of our fun, but spread the joy involved with the Cultivation of puns, which will eventually lead to our Domination of the entire world with cosmere related humour! Also Odium somehow :S

Theory: Shardblades Barely Harm Infused Surgebinders
Voidus replied to Moogle's topic in Stormlight Archive
Investiture is inherently spiritual in nature, it would protect the spiritual component as much as the physical I believe. However I still think that just investiture in and of itself is going to do very little for protection unless it's directed specifically to that end as it is in Half-shards and presumably Shard-plate. You'd need a lot of pure Stormlight to be able to resist a Shardblade. -
So I've been trading increasingly terrible cosmere related puns for the last 10 minutes with a friend and I remembered we used to have a thread on that which I can't find, so I'm going to pseudo-necro it for those who mist their chances last time, let the groaning begin!

16 is an awesome number 4^2 as well as 2^4 and two is quite clearly the BEST NUMBER EVER, followed closely by 4 which is both double two and 2^2 (Because that's exactly the same thing) so 16 as 2^(2^2) is also quite awesome. 10 by comparison is far less interesting. 1+2+3+4, that's about it really.

Also if it were as easy as having high levels of investiture half-shards would have existed for a long time, in half shards the investiture is specifically directed at increasing the durability of the metal, I imagine Shardplate would need to do the same. -
So found this little gem in today's excerpts Seems pretty compelling evidence for Szeth having an Honorblade.

Atomic Theory and The Structure of the Cosmere
Voidus replied to TheShogun's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I remember the same one but I can't find the quote. I think it's safe to assume that life is carbon based, several earth-foods are referenced. -
As Kurk said you'd just get more all at once, Compounders usually need to store the excess anyway since they don't need that much all at once.

Noob's take on First Book: Mistborn The Final Empire
Voidus replied to Alayala_Radiant's topic in Mistborn
I'm sure you'll enjoy the next two just as much, Kelsiers death scene is still some of my favourite writting from Brandon, especially the pacing with Kel vs. the Inquisitor and the mounting excitement when you think it'll be the final victorious confrontation and then BAM! Gets me every time. Hope you enjoy the other cosmere novels. Also I haven't seen you here before so welcome to the forums! -
Could take more than 2 hits, we don't know much about the differences between Plate and half-shards and I think that 2-hits is an estimate from very forceful direct hits. And even being able to take an extra two hits could well be worth it to gain a new set of Shards. They already have to replace gemstones after every fight so I don't imagine shields would be too different.

You don't need to put spoiler tags on quotes from outside the books, just if it relates to something not yet released yet usually. I agree with your sentiment though, I think that Radiants probably used Stormlight they absorbed directly.
-
They're also generally stronger than regular metal, so I think it'd be useful even when not fighting a Shardbearer, mostly I'm thinking that Shardblades really don't need 2 hands, and that with a shield to block with any form of projectile be it crossbow bolt or even liquids of some form are going to be less useful.

I blame whoever changed it from my even more arbitrary convention of 'years since' and then some event.

I have been thinking that With the invention of the Half-Shards that Shardbearers might start carrying Shields now, which does prevent pretty much anything from working. Anyone got ideas for that?

I'm still hoping we see something more useful from the Pressure surge than the full lashing.
-
Guess that would work, I was thinking more for the Parshendi Shardbearers on the Shattered plains I guess. But I don't know that in a siege an army would throw the Shardbearers out the front, not until they'd breached the walls.
