Steelrunning is... weird. There's all sorts of issues with actually running at those speeds, from friction to hang time to those that you mentioned, presumably feruchemys weirdness comes into it a bit in terms of preventing damage from tapping too much but I believe Brandon has explicitly used steel as an example of the limits of compounding, I don't remember if it was in character or not but there was definitely something about trying to hit someone and breaking your arm, will try to track down a quote on it.
-
Depends whether or not it catches on any bones I'd say, but then the easy ability of it to cut through flesh cuts both ways cause then even with just a little reaction force it would cut through the hand holding it too.
-
That would definitely rip their arms off

@Lord_of_Awesome Topic moved to cosmere theories for warbreaker and general cosmere spoilers.

@Entreos Moved topic to the cosmere theories subforum.

Maybe if they were particularly careful they could avoid completely ruining the trajectory but then you hit the same problem, you'd have to slow down enough that you're basically wasting the speed. A bow is a much better way to launch a sharp piece of wood than a person is.
-
That actually seems to imply almost the opposite, he's using cesium as an example of something that's a metal but allomantically inert.
-
Steelrunners can't do much to actually kill him in the timeline of the first trilogy, try to actually punch him while you superspeed and you'll shatter your arm into a thousand pieces. You could very slowly and carefully try to stab him I guess but that'd have to be approaching the limits of how much speed you could tap at once.

Sorry for lack of posts/replies at the moment, been really under the weather the last week or so, particularly the last couple of days. Once I find a healing Epic to spike so I can get over it I shall be back to my regular schedule and hopefully a long-needed update for Salem.

I'm inclined to side with the allomantic table, which was released later (Which means Brandon had time to adjust his earlier comment and just hadn't had an opportunity to tell us) and is much more deliberately created. Brandon has made mistakes, in interviews, in AMAs and occasionally in text as well, but I find it hard to believe how something like adding another quadrant to its effects could be a mistake. Accidentally switching two very similar looking symbols? Very easy to do, and would have to go through multiple people for the poster since Brandon didn't hand-draw it himself. Accidentally adding a very sensible and logical change to a metals effects? Very, very difficult to do accidentally. It could be an intentional mistake, as with many Ars Arcana errors, a result of an in-world misunderstanding. But that seems pretty unlikely, anyone who has enough access to Lerasium and Atium to go around experimenting with their alloys and notice similarities is going to be pretty in the know. The table of allomantic metals is also less likely to be updated later as in world knowledge catches up than the AA is. So while this is by no means an absolute statement of truth I'd say the allomantic table is more likely to be the full, correct answer.

Apologies for the lack of replies and updates for people at the moment, been really sick the last few days so calculating xp and long posts are a bit difficult at the moment, but I definitely haven't forgotten about this, thank you so much to everyone who has contributed, it's already helped a great deal with balancing and fleshing things out.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Voidus replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
My ears are both blocked and feel like someones trying to drill through them, my face is congested, my nose is bleeding and now some of that is going down my throat so I keep coughing up blood balls and scaring the Calamity out of myself. Today is not a good day to be a Voidus, where did I leave my goldminds? -
Easy work around, store your feruchemical aluminium ability in a keyed metalmind so only you can tap it, create another metalmind that is unkeyed, using the Feruchemical aluminium from the first to store your identity while you store your natural ability.

Sort of, magic is involved here so we need to do slightly weirder maths than you usually would. For example we have to take the higgs field into account, and the mass we're talking about increasing isn't mass in the ordinary sense, there's no more actual stuff there, Protons and Neutrons aren't getting bigger, extra atoms aren't popping into existence and creating a higher concentration of person in the space it's ordinarily in. So the density of a feruchemist + their tapped iron is larger than that of the feruchemist by themselves but the mass concentration of all constituent parts of the feruchemist remain constant.
-
But the point is that that's not recognizing metals as the quote says, that's recognizing aluminium. Given how deliberately Brandon usually writes I'd say it's unlikely he'd say she can recognize metals if he just meant she could recognize whether or not it's aluminium. (Which would also be a somewhat redundant point to make, why mention it about Ranette specifically if he was just talking about determining whether or not something was aluminium, we already know that any Coinshot or Lurcher could do that.)

Atium gives the wrong powers (and possibly Lerasium)
Voidus replied to sonwarrior01's topic in Mistborn
The Intent of a Shard has to do with how you gain access to a magic, not what that magic does. -
Potentially she has some currently unknown or unrevealed feruchemical ability and it's her twinborn power. Other than that I'd say it'd have to be a savant thing, Inquisitors could do weird things with Iron and Steel lines but I've always chalked that up as a hemalurgic trait.

Similar gravity to earth but given that Scadrial has different metal contents that might change its mass. Still I'd say relatively close to earth sized, which is probably a better estimate than we could get by calculating rough distances between cities based on walking times, especially since those cities are only on one end of the planet.

Voidus writes in red ShadowLord writes in gold Shadow walked through the market streets, stopping every now and then to examine one of the stalls and check their prices. Both health potions and additional summoning stones seemed too expensive to buy until he found a good place to farm some money, but he managed to pick up a few interesting items, a basic oak staff would increase his magical attack power for only 5 gold pieces, and while a cloth robe provided less armour than even the beginners equipment it did provide a boost to magical defence and mana, which was more useful to a shade anyway. While continuing along, wondering whether or not to sell some of the items he’d picked up like the fur and meat from his trapping, he found a centaur, a player character given the name, and given the expressions he was making it might be yet another person who’d been trapped. “Stuck?” Shadow asked as he approached. Storm looked at the ghostly figure. He’d long since given up trying to talk to the npc’s, they all responded the same way: with a quest or subtle attempts to make him go away. The shopkeepers were the same way. At least he could talk to this person, ghostly though he was. “Yes, any idea how...” he said hoping against hope that the other player might have an answer. “No idea, haven’t had any messages from the creators and I’m pretty sure I haven’t annoyed any witches.” Shadow said jokingly. “Not sure this all a dream or something, but if it’s not I figure we’d better stick together. Looks like not everyone who plays is stuck either, talked to someone before and I think they thought I was on some kind of drugs.” Shadows fingers flicked through the air for a moment, sending a friend request to Storm. “So, want to party up or something? I’m just stopping off at the markets to see if I can upgrade my equipment before I head back out.” Storm winced slightly, the shopkeepers had not been very… accepting of his biology. He did not look forward to speaking with them again. “ I’d really enjoy that.” he said, managing a smile. He could hide any of his emotions better than a man trained to do so. Natural talent didn’t often fail once one had had practice. “Where are you planning to go after your equipment has been upgraded?” He noticed a pinging yellow pulse of light in the right corner of his vision and, almost without thought, brought up his message board. He had a pm from Shadow. Some kind of friend request. He accepted it without a second thought. Shadow seemed nice, definitely friendly, and he was the only person he had met so far that hadn’t given him any uneasy or untrusting looks. He almost looked comfortable, though since he was a wraith he was hard to see properly and could just as easily seem to be in pain as happy. “Well I checked out the west just before and that didn’t end well, might head east and see if there’s anything interesting near that tower I saw.” Shadow replied, looking towards the horizon where a dim outline of some large structure could be seen. “Could be something interesting there.” “That sounds great,Shadow, I’ve been curious about that tower. I wonder if it was, or is, a wizard tower of some kind.” Inside, he still dreaded the shop visit, though that dislike was strongly tempered by his interest and longing for exploration, xp, and maybe, hopefully, some way back home to his brother. And mr. and mrs. borvinchi. “Anyway, when do we start your arsenal and armoury upgrading? Maybe I can do something there as well.”

Shadesmar seems different as soon as you enter it, the number of painspren is simply staggering, and other strange spren lurk at the corners of your vision. Within moments the alleyspren are at your back, distorting the realm itself they force you back through a nearby junction into the Alleys. Unfortunately spikes operate on all realms, the bars of a DA prison are not limited to the physical. That being said, thanks for the endorsement! You're free to leave now, we throw mixers every now and then if you ever want to drop by. The gates to Shadesmar open once more, the alleyspren herd the painspren away and allow you to proceed on your way.

As Argel said, if you want to discuss politics please do so in another thread, it's a topic that's prone to incite conflict and it's off topic for this thread.

On his way back to the town Shadow decided to test out his trapping skill as well. He opened up the Hunters kit and found a variety of equipment inside. "Hmm, string, sticks, rope, glue, perch..." Identifying the items within one by one he examined them briefly before returning them. He'd seen a few birds flitting through the oak trees, and the occasional rabbit had sprinted across his path too. Looking through his abilities menu he saw a list of traps he could prepare, and as he made his selection he found himself pulling items out of the kit and arranging them expertly. It was an odd sensation, he didn't quite feel like he'd lost control of his body, but at the same time he had no idea what his hands were actually doing, it was like muscle memory from something he'd done a thousand times but now he'd forgotten what the actions meant, how they all fit together. In short order he'd created a noose trap on the ground, fitted a nearby branch with some of the glue to trap any bird that perched on it, and created another noose trap on a different branch. As he looked at the traps he wondered how long it would take to actually catch something. Sure in games hunting skills usually only took a few seconds but now he was here in the flesh, the birds looked like they'd been behaving pretty realistically, and what were the chances one would happen to choose one of his branches to perch on? He hadn't even used any bait. While he was waiting he tested out his summoning ability some more, the goblin from the stone was still following him, and it seemed a waste to dismiss it to test summoning a dodo since he only had a limited number of the goblins for now, but its health was low anyway and showed no signs of recovering so far. "Summon Dodo" He said, starting to get used to calling out like this. It had been a bit embarassing at first but that was offset when something actually happened. To his surprise the goblin didn't vanish when he performed the summon, it continued standing idly nearby, watching him for orders. The dodo that shimmered into existence did the same thing, although Shadow couldn't help but think there was somewhat less intelligence in its eyes. "Go stand over there." He told the dodo, pointing to a patch near the noose trap. The dodo walked over obediently while the goblin remained where it was. Seemed they were smart enough to be able to distinguish which one he was talking to. He ordered the dodo around a bit more while he waited, and inside less than a minute a small, blue bird came flying through directly at one of his trapped branches. The bird landed on the branch with the glue on it and a moment later opened its wings to try to fly off again. The branch bounced slightly but the birds efforts were in vain, as it remained stuck on its perch. Shadow walked slowly over, his dark form approaching the bird until he was close enough to touch, the moment he did so the bird vanished completely in the same way his summons did. What the? Did it fail? He checked his status screen and saw that his trapping xp had jumped to 20 in one hit, so it seemed to have worked, but what happened to the bird? As he was looking through he noticed a new addition to his inventory. -Blue wren (live) - Use, Drop, Use with Selecting the use option from the menu the icon disappeared from his inventory, replaced with (Feathers x 10, Down x 50, small wren meat x1) "Well that certainly beats having to kill it myself." He muttered. His health and mana weren't completely recovered still so he laid another trap and tested the summons again. He discovered that he could only summon one dodo at a time, trying to summon another just replaced the one he already had, but he did get a nice chunk of xp for summoning them, more than he'd gotten from summoning the two goblins in that fight. By the time his stats were full again he'd caught two more birds, keeping one alive to test later, along with a rabbit that he'd turned into rabbit meat and fur. He'd ended up travelling quite a bit further north than he'd meant to and soon arrived at the fields north of the town of beginnings. On his way through them he passed the occasional NPC but the fields looked largely empty of other players. Or at least they were empty until he came across a small field just outside the town where he saw a Lamia with some tool digging through the field while a nearby demon was looking around while playing with a dodo of his own. Another summoner? And an archer too if the bow is any inclination. Might be a good chance for some information sharing since wikis aren't an option now. "Yo!" Shadow called as he approached the pair, raising a shadowy arm in salutation. "Er... this might sound weird but are you, like, really here? If you know what I mean."
