  1. When you and a friend (who hasn't read any Cosmere stuff in ages) start having a conversation about which Cosmere characters we would go drinking with. She invited another one of her friends who's a Sanderfan, and we started discussing how to get all these characters to one planet and us to the Cosmere. And we're bringing a goat named Tanavast. (All three of us are both underage and LDS, and the Cosmere isn't real, so unfortunately, none of this will come to be. Except maybe the goat, which I'd gladly accept).
  2. "Who else is here right now?" Ayalin asked. "Are there any other... Metalborn?"
  3. "Two years. I... I haven't really been able to practice much without people finding out. I've gotten pretty good at messing with people's emotions, though, and controlling how hard I Push and Pull on metals. Apparently there are a lot more things i can do than what I'm currently aware of." The coin slipped from her fingers onto the floor, and she hurriedly picked it back up, slipping it into her pocket. "What sort of things can you do?" @The_Archivist
  4. "Well, yes. Honestly, all day today has just been weird. It's been a good thing, though. When did you find out that you could... Do what you do?" Ayalin fidgeted with her coin, trying the think through everything while listening to Everest. She could still hardly wrap her head around the fact that other people could do what she could, and that they knew what was going on. And Aya herself would be allowed to help them do what they needed to do. I can't wait to meet the rest of the people here, she thought with a small smile. @The_Archivist
  5. "Well, I still think it's weirder. I mean, I have to eat it..." Aya Pulled on her coin, and it shot through the air towards her, although she stopped it with a brief Push a moment before it hit her, and it fell into her lap. @The_Archivist
  6. When you go shooting and keep feeling like you should be able to Push on the casings. (I've been rereading the Wax and Wayne books).
  7. "If you mean using metal to jump, sort of. I've only ever done it when people weren't around. So I have sort of hovered over coins and stuff, but that's it. And it took a long time to get good at staying just a little ways off of the ground." Aya grimaced. "I feel like I should be better at all of this. I've been able to do it for years, but I've never told anyone before, and I'm always worried someone might be watching and come get me or something." @Dr. Dapper @The_Archivist
  8. Ayalin sat quietly as Jamie went to open the door, and did her best to listen to the short conversation. When the boy, Everest, came up to her, she almost shivered. This had all stemmed from one moment of brash extrovert-ism. And she had never felt so content and terrified at the same time. "Hi." Ayalin took Everest's hand. "Nice to meet you. And from your discussion at the door just now, I believe you've only known of my existence for the past several moments. This will probably sound really weird, but I can basically eat different types of metal, then sort of burn them and do different things." Aya removed a dime from her pocket and, holding it in her palm, began to burn steel, one of the few metals she had connected to a certain ability. A blue line sprung up, pointing from herself to the coin in her hand. She Pushed on the coin, using the control she had mastered from hours spent practicing alone in her room to send it flying just hard enough to hit the wall and stay there. She didn't want to ding up the paint. @The_Archivist @Dr. Dapper
  9. Ayalin paused for a moment. The others were just as young as she was. She could have a part, and could be helpful. And she'd be with people like herself. "When can I meet them?" Aya asked, her voice soft. @Dr. Dapper
  10. "And you will actually genuinely let me help? Even though I'm still just a kid?"
  11. Ayalin slowly shook her head. "This... This is a lot to take in," she finally said. "But I don't think you really answered my first question. Who are you people? What are you doing here? And what is going on?"
  12. Ayalin felt her jaw drop. The sword was massive, and the woman held it easily in one hand. And it had just appeared out of thin air. "What is that?"
  13. "What do i do now?" Ayalin asked, putting the paper into her pocket with the coins. "How do I help fight... Whatever it is you're fighting? "I can fight pretty well, though I'm best with a sword. And I've shot a pistol a few times, though I'm not good at that. Then I have what I can do... You'll let me help though, right?" @Dr. Dapper
  14. Ayalin took the paper. "I... Wow. Thank you." She looked up, glancing at the two newcomers for the first time, chatting with Nym. " And then there's people like Nym, right?" @Dr. Dapper
  15. Aya blinked. It was so surreal. She was finally learning about her abilities. She has learned more about all of it in the past two hours then she had in the past two years. "Wait, did you say sixteen?" Aya cocked her head. "I can maybe do four or five different things. Move metal, become stronger, increase my senses, and sort of mess with people's emotions." She leaned back, thinking. Sixteen metals, one metal for each ability. "What else can i do?" @Dr. Dapper
  16. Ow. My heart.

I finished my Warbreaker reread. Within almost exactly 24 hours.

All I shall say is this- it is a lot better than I remembered. (And it helped that I sort of knew more about Vasher and Vivenna and just the Cosmere in general).

Well, and I'll also say this- I love all those characters so much! Last time I only really liked Vasher, and I hated Vivenna, but now those two are both awesome and everyone else...

And my brain hurts. I'm going to go to sleep. :D

  17. I do this with every person I meet, after they have answered whether they like reading or not. Occasionally i get a yes, and then try to talk to them about it, but all I generally get is an, "oh, I liked it," and then that person avoids the topic of books at all costs around me. My cousin (who introduced me to the books) is the only major Sanderfan I know in person. (Eh. Maybe a few of my other cousins, but the two of us are by far the most obsessed). I'm working on a girl in my creative writing class, though, who's read Stormlight. I'm sure that was a much lengthier thing than anyone wanted. So, as a result of my Warbreaker reread: Whisper quietly about changes in color. Post signs telling people to stay away from a black sword. Run up to random people, look super nervous, and give them your Breath.
  18. When out in public, what are some of the best ways to find other Sanderfans? (My contributions) Swearing the oaths very loudly while staring up at the sky. Throwing coins at people you deem dangerous. And if course, using words like storms and rust as curses.
  19. Elementary school was when i was obsessed with Percy Jackson. I knew every little thing about that series and so did my friend. Harry Potter was a close second, then followed by Septimus Heap and The Alchemist series. And i need to re-read all of those... My friend and i would always get together and make our own stories and stuff. She was always Annabeth and Hermione, and i was everyone else.
  20. Thank you all so much! This is exactly what I've been needing! And my library is still currently open, so I'll have to stop by and stock up!
  21. I know that there are some other threads like this floating around, so sorry about that. But I have some specific requests. I have been trying to find good fantasy lately that is, well, good. I'm currently reading tWoT (book 6), and just need a good list I can refer back to when starting something new. I need some solid recommendations that are nothing beyond tWoT content wise (as Brandon says, mature themes without mature content (I think)), are well written, don't focus too much on the romance aspect of the story, and are just awesome. Preferably with dragons and swords and stuff. It's super hard to find solid fantasy in the YA genere that doesn't have a huge focus on the romance, and most of them that I have read lately have had the same sort of feeling to them. (There are some exceptions. I love Six of Crows, and Fablehaven is amazing, even though Fablehaven could arguably be children's). So YA, adult, even good children's fantasy. (Only if the children's fantasy is leaning a little to the dark side. Beyonders, Happenstance Found, Septimus Heap, etc). Oh, and science fiction. I love Ray Bradbury's stuff, and have recently read some old Sci-Fi short stories and LOVED them. So... Thanks!
  22. Authors- you can say you hate them, but still get along with them just fine.

And a random writing prompt: The Cream Cheese Debacle of 1905.

  23. I believe they used to be limited, but that was changed a while back, probably sometime before i joined.
  24. "Um, yes." Ayalin took a hesitant seat on the couch, trying to sit as far from the woman as possible without looking like she was doing so. @Ookla the very snazzy @Dr. Dapper
  25. I just got this thing for my two parakeets, (it's a thing i set on top of their cage with perches and toys) and it's freaking them out. They've been flying around my room squawking and just now one of them finally went up to it and started biting it.

    Crazy birds.
