  1. Yes, but I'm order for people to live on Mars we'd need an atmosphere.
  2. Ooh, interesting idea! The biggest issue with that is that there is something in the soil of mars that wouldn't allow plants to grow, so establishing an atmosphere would be really difficult. I love how this went from population growth to agriculture to climate change then to mars.
  3. I'm so sorry if that came across as rude! Basically what I was saying was that agriculture is pretty much how social inequality began, and other things like that. But. Without it, we wouldn't be where we are now. We wouldn't have been able to explore the world, we would still exist hunter gatherer societies. I have absolutely nothing against modern agriculture. We all depend on it to survive, and without it, people wouldn't be able to devote their lives to other things, such as science or writing it trying to land on the moon! I recognize it's significance. It's been significant and important for as long as it's been in existence. There's just an ongoing debate about whether the switch to agriculture a really long time ago was the right thing to do. But at this point, there's literally no way we can go back on that. Which is fine. We have done so many amazing things because of it. I think the biggest issue is just humans in general.... Once again, I'm sorry if I came across as rude or snobbish.
  4. I have a lot to say about this, but can't really say it well because I'm typing with a single finger on a Kindle. I'd suggest doing some research into the Middle East. Things like kill and capture, night raids, civilian casualties, refugees, bombings, things like that. It will raise a lot of ethical, moral, and religious questions. [Deleted tangent about religion.] I'd also recommend checking out Scythe by Neal Shusterman. It's not the best, but in terms of questions and ideas it raises about death, it's pretty thought provoking. And Frankenstein, maybe The Phantom of the Opera. At what point is someone considered human, or worthy of love? Les Miserables is super good with regards to who deserves to die. Mainly between Javert and Jean Valjean, but it can also be addressed with other conflicts. I know a lot about modern police work, as well as other really random stuff, if you can't tell. I think about things like this all I'd the time, and definitely have some conclusions I've drawn. I'd love to have this conversation with more details while I'm on a computer. So if you'd like, you can PM me, but I don't really want to get too in-depth on this subject on a public fourm. And now it's 12:30. I need to be awake in 7 hours. Yay.
  5. I know it's been two weeks, but I have more thoughts. If the population continues growing at this rate, even if we can support all these people and manage our resources well, more people means more cars, airplanes, and everything else. Which in turn means global warming. Which is already a problem, but this would make it worse. With increased global warming, there would be less area suitable for human habitation, let alone agriculture. So we wouldn't be able to support all these people, even in a best case scenario. (Which would mean we are super smart about distributing food and taking care of people). Without enough food, population would begin to decline. Also, if we started managing our resources well, more food means more people, which was the cause of the original transition to agriculture in the first place. Agriculture is stupid. For so many reasons. Those are my additional thoughts.
  6. Kaladin update!

    As in Kaladin my bird.

    The greatest bird ever.

    Fight me.

    Anyways.

So, he's about six months old. He's lost the bars on his forehead, so it's now white. His cere is almost to the point of being completely blue, and his irises are a light grey. He's getting so big...

He's getting over an infection, but thanks to some handy-dandy birdy medication, he's doing much better. He should be off of it in another week.

He loves his tree (a playstand), spinich, and is currently very aggressively head bobbing to some Newsies. And now he's flying laps in the living room... He's back. Now he's chilling.

And he's getting loud! His chirps, when right next to your ear, as so loud! He also squawks, but not as often.

And I should be getting another bird once I finish driver's ed! I'll need some Cosmere name ideas...

I also got him a new cage, which has been needing to happen for years. Since I have school, I got a flight cage. The A&E flight cage. I love that cage so much. There's enough space for a maximum of four budgies, too.

    Hm... That's about it.

Ooh! He's also starting to talk! He's making super weird noises that are a mix of bird sounds and human sounds.

Aaaand... He can do five tricks. He will come to me when i call him (sometimes), he'll target (touch a stick with his beak), shake, spin in a circle, and do a flip around a perch. His favorite is the flip.

Now, to demonstrate how hard it is to take a picture of a bird who wants to sit on the camera, here's some fails.

And finally... They flying, feathery potato bird of DEATH.

      He he he he...

      That's a good one.

I'll have to keep it in mind. I'm still trying to decide between male or female.

  7. I love that one! It looks super good on grey, by the way. Which isn't available on the store...
  8. When your feet get cold. Four hour update: still wearing the socks.
  9. Yes, I agree. I'm really sensitive when it comes to clothes that I wear, and with men/unisex sizes it's the awful combination of either being tight around your hips, or just really big and baggy. Or having the collar of the shirt right up around your neck, which I HATE. The materials from the store are better, but the ones on Amazon definitely are more comfortable in terms of fit. I have several shirts from Amazon, and one from the store, and I definitely wear the Amazon ones more often.
  10. Status: freaking out.

    47.

    Days.

    Until.

    RHYTHM OF WAR!!!!

    I'm getting WAYYYYYY excited.

It'll be my third major book release while in the fandom!

    So excited!!!!!I

And my B4 poster should get here soon. Yay!

Okay, I'm done being publicly excited now.

    1. Experience

      Experience

How did you like chapter 13? Did you like the part about...

Oh wait, what's your rank say? :P

      Ha ha...

I'd upvote that, but I'm out for the day.

  11. Wow! These are all FANTASTIC! I especially love the pieces you've done of the Era One folks! So cool...
  12. I'm not reading them. At all. I read the prologue of OB when that came out, but it didn't really add anything to the experience for me. I also feel guilty getting a new book and skipping a part... Why? No idea. And the sheer joy of opening a new book (especially a Cosmere one) for the first time and just doing everything in one go is something I don't want to miss out on. I'm not active at all in the theory section, so that doesn't bother me. I hope to maybe be able to contribute at some point, though, after RoW. I'm not a super fast reader, but I can read for really long stretches of time, especially Sanderson's stuff. (I reread Warbreaker in under 24 hours. It was all I did that day except sleep). I look forward to hauling it around school for a while! ONLY 53 MORE DAYS!
  13. Think of the shipping as the price of getting into the release party thing, and that the book is numbered! Oh, and when you think of it that way, free shipping!
  14. Here's a list of quotes by my history teacher. My friend and I are going to give him this list at the end of the year.

"Chop chop like a bunny on crack."

"What were you smoking? Oh, right, the monastery."

"Is math a problem? ... See what I did there?"

     "I can't remember my name?"

"This is a poem, and sometimes poems freak people out."

     "Woo hoo! Short term memory!"

"We're 31 seconds behind, so I blame you guys and your incessant questioning."

"If I read that one more time, I'm going to start stabbing people with Expo markers for fun."

He's a great teacher, by the way.

He sounds awesome! If you do get the sword, you should whisper/argue with it, call it Nightblood, and not let anyone you don’t like touch it. Or try really hard to get them to hold it, depending on how vengeful you’re feeling :P

I'll keep that in mind... :D

      I have another one.

"I thought we were talking about gaseous anomalies."

  15. 1). I joined after only having read tWoK and half of WoR. I was in middle school. I heard about it from my cousin, and immediately signed up without even looking at what this was. Which was probably stupid. 2). Well, middle school was rough. My book buddy (person who got me into reading, and we always read the same books) sort of just stopped being there, she stopped reading, and I basically had no other friends. I was probably the most annoying teenager ever to grace the Shard. It was my first time ever communicating online (I didn't even have a phone at this point), and it was rough. But hopefully I'm a less annoying teenager now. Anyways, even though I was a depressed middle schooler, I still felt accepted and like I had my own little place on here. I don't know what i would have done without this site, seriously. And thanks to tKotC I can sort of write now. Just not while actually RPing... It's odd. 3). Oh boy... The conclusion to the first KotC RP was something else... (It sucked, and that was my fault.) But it was fun. I was just in awe by @S4S's writing. Partly because my writing SUCKED. This is such an amazing community. I've kind of withdrawn for the last year ish, so I don't know too many of the new people. But it's still amazing here.
  16. Yay! I got the book! Hopefully I can make it to an actual release party at some point, though...
  17. How have I not found this before?

    Guys.

    The Nerdfighters.

This is one of the greatest things ever.

I've been watching YouTube videos for a very long time today. And yesterday. And for a few days. It's the perfect mix of humor, nerdiness, and inspirational, and it's exactly what I need right now.

"How to cook eight peas." Art right there.

Go check out vlogbrothers on YouTube. It's John and Hank Green, by the way. I've listened/read stuff by John Green for quite a while (my history teacher this year is a fan of Crash Course, too), and I don't know how I have missed all this other stuff.

So don't forget to be awsome. ;)

(And if this is like some huge thing that's even on here and it's just something I'm the only one who is unaware of... Hi. I've arrived).

      do you listen to DHaJ?

My cousin introduced me to it... Two years ago? But I didn't continue listening to it. It's on my list, though.

  18. We'll likely get there in about 30 years, so we'll have to see. That's still a lot of people.
  19. I am a stick. Edit: when you bite off the arm of a gummy bear and name it Lopen.
  20. My biggest issue is that we can't even take care of the people who are on the world now. (By the way, I'm also a pretty pessimistic person, so that definitely effects my thought process).
  21. Okay.

    So.

I just finished watching The Martian.

Holy crap that was good and I hate movies like that. (The definition of "what is the worst possible thing i can do to this character").

    But it was good.

And it reminded me why I'm terrified of space.

I have three major fears, all of which are very abstract. Population growth (which I've been discussing a lot lately), global warming, and space. Well, something going wrong in space. (I used to want to be an astronomer, until I learned that involved math. So then I wanted to be an astronaut. Until I learned how blasted terrifying it is.)

In other words I don't trust humanity.

    Yep.

    Good movie, though.

      *sigh*

      Yes.

Also, the Lord of the Rings references killed me.

It was made even better by the fact that Sean Bean was in it.

  22. So... Population growth terrifies me. Beyond all reason. I mean... At this point there isn't a way to stop it that wouldn't be infringing on what we see as basic human rights. That in and of itself is a whole other conversation. The article was well written, and was about something that scares/interests me, so of course I read it, think about it a lot, try to find a way to confront my fears, but end up freaking out more. It's a vicious cycle. It was also just really cool to look at how quickly things changed in the world in regards to population and why that was.
  23. I'll have to look into that. Like I said, I just threw it together. I actually didn't know how to even make a chart on Sheets until we did so in chemistry. (I also hate computers, so I haven't really tried very hard to learn all the weird things you can do on different things... Sheets is really complicated and makes next to zero sense to me). Nice profile picture, by the way. Edit: I figured it out and it was really easy. Stupid computers, always making things seem so complicated...
  24. I'm taking AP World History this year, and two days ago I read an article in the text book that I found way interesting. So I threw together a little chart in Google Sheets! I'm not going to say anything more right now, but if anyone wants to discuss it, I'd love to. And if you want to complain about agriculture, I'll gladly join in that discussion as well! Here's the chart! (Please note the years. The intervals between them are rather irregular. And the numbers aren't going to be super accurate, I think).
  25. I have early morning seminairy, and I'm also in an area where the smoke is AWFUL. This morning when I was walking from the church to the school, I swear, the sun looked exactly like Calamity. It was creepy. It was both terrifying and super exciting at the same time.
