  1. *awkwardly invites Salad into conversation* I've tried that. Unfortunately, my mind is very good at picking out when it is trying to trick itself. *hugs* No mean things here! (From what I've seen of you, you're really great, by the way.) Yay! We have someone to help us! That's fantastic! Yay! (I've had a few people do that for me, but few people actually read it after I send it to them...) Two questions: How do you respond when someone calls you smart? You can't say that you're not, because then they insist. And if you say thanks, it sounds a little like you have a high opinion of yourself. And at what point do you consider someone a friend? (I'm just curious.)
  2. Talnic accepted the coins, dropping them into his pouch. "I am not willing to share my name," he said quietly. "They call me the Shadow. That will have to be sufficient for now. Your name was Minuet, correct?"
  3. I overthink things. A lot. Sometimes I do well in social situations, but that's just how I see things. I have a tendency to talk a lot, and then as soon as I realize I am doing so, retreat and say as little as possible. I also repeat myself. A lot. And then go over potential scenarios and past ones over and over in my head, trying to figure out if I pulled off a decent conversation or not. It all gets very complicated. Oh, and then there's the thing where I don't know if people are actually interested in what I have to say, or if they actually understand what I'm saying, or anything like that. And it's one of those weird things where you can't really ask a person about that, because they might not tell the truth. Complicated. Books are seriously great, though. It's very nice to just experience social interaction without taking part in it yourself, you know? Plus, there are dragons (sometimes).
  4. This is the thread for people who like books and who are socially awkward! We shall all work together to try and help each other figure out social situations, and talk about books. (Or, well, talk about how hard it is to talk to people about books.) If you do have social skills, feel free to stop by as well! We might need your help...
  5. Have you read Mistborn: Secret History? If not, you should really read it. When you can recognize and name all ten Knight radiant glyphs. I can't draw them, though, which is unfortunate. I'm off to go practice writing in the women's script! (Assuming I can find my notes...)
  6. I need some advice.

I'm sure you all know about my history teacher at this point. (And how I've recommended Sanderson to him and stuff.)

Today during the announcements he came up to me with a sticky note that said "Mistborn?" on it. (Which, for some reason, I find hilarious.) He asked if that was a good one to start with, and then we had to do the pledge before I could answer.

After class I went up to him with my friend who has read tWoK and tFE, and we talked about the books and the Cosmere for a few minutes. (I think I got really repetitive in what I was saying, but that's besides the point.)

The issue with this is that I got a copy of tWoK that I was going to give him. But I don't know how to give it to him at this point without it being really weird.

And I don't want another copy of tWoK. I already have three (hardcover, mass market, audiobook) and I don't know what I'd do with a fourth.

So I, the socially awkward bookworm, am asking for help. I'm very likely over complicating it, but when Sanderson books are involved, there is no room for error.

    Thanks.

Kaladin says hi, by the way. (He's very aggressively making clicking noises at the laptop right now.) (He just said "Hi bird," too.)

  7. I'm a mistborn now!

    Yay!

It's kind of ironic, because last night, after two years, I finally finished my mistcloak.

Because I don't know how to sew, and I don't really have access to tons of materials, I made it out of a sheet. And then, when the tassels started to fray, I went through and melted the edges of every. Single. One.

    And I finished last night.

And it's fantastic and I love it.

I can't wait until I can make an actual one with a hood and stuff. And maybe use ribbons instead of just a sheet.

  8. Amused, Talnic turned to face the kid. "Horses are expensive," he said. "And it might take time, but we'll get there eventually. Besides, no caravan will be going anywhere at this point in the year." He didn't mention that his inclination to avoid people as much as possible was part of his decision. "I'm afraid you'd also find that the extra expense of caring for a horse isn't worth the shorter travel time."
  9. "We need to head north-east, towards Noter," Talnic said. "If we head this way through the market, we should be out of town in just a few minutes." Talnic pointed down the street. "Minuet, make sure Arven gets his supplies." He took off, not looking to see if the others were following him.
  10. When you realize that your watch would interfere with the wearing of a safehand glove.
  11. Renarin, followed by Adolin, followed by Gavinor. As characters, I absolutely love Dalinar, Jasnah, and Navani, but as people, the first three I mentioned are definitely my favorites. Although Navani is also just a fantastic person. Dalinar and Jasnah would scare me, although I'd probably get along pretty well with Jasnah, which is a weird thing to consider. Oathbringer spoilers- This is a complicated question. But Renarin is my favorite for sure. Also, Adolin's relationship with Shallan and Kaladin is amazing. Those three make a great group. Wait, Shallan's a Kholin... This is really complicated!
  12. When Minuet had left to get her own supplies as well as Arven's, Talnic had quickly gone to where he had hidden his own pack the night before. On his way to the meeting spot through the market, Talnic had picked up a few additional supplies, including some more oil to care for his sword and knife. He quickly found the group, and was somewhat surprised to see that one of them seemed to be taking a nap. "Who else are we waiting for?" he asked.
  13. I reread tFE just a few weeks ago, so I'm gonna go with that.
  14. Shoot. The beaver is going to try and kill all the vessels and take all of the Shards itself. Or create an army of sixteen beavers to each hold a Shard and then take over everything.
  15. Yep. They do both take place on Sel though. That's where the connection ends.
  16. There isn't really an order. The only thing that matters is that you read The Hope of Elantris after Elantris. The Emperor's Soul has nothing to do with Elantris. Both are fantastic, though.
  17. Storms.

I was just scrolling through the article on Kaladin on the Copermind. (I was bored.) I just was reading the quotes and stuff.

I may or may not have started crying when I read the quotes about Tein and stuff.

    I'm really tired, you guys.

But you see, I am already in one. And I might have time right now, but I don't know what things will look like in the future. Maybe at some point.

It doesn't help that I'm reading this creepy book about Vlad the Impaler and Dracula.

  18. I knew there was a word for it...
  19. Ooh, can I join? Could I be that person who goes around imitating nobles and other people and other related tasks?
  20. The newcomer was rather talkative, Talnic noticed. He was likely not used to having things to hide. "They call me the Shadow," Talnic said softly. "I am not willing to share my name at this point."
  21. Talnic shrugged. "If you wouldn't mind." He could offer the remaining coins to Arven.
