  1. I went to a Sanderson signing at BYU when I was in seventh grade. I went with my best friend (@Cel, but she's not active), and it was just the two of us middle schoolers and a whole bunch of college students. When I went up I had my notebook with some (really really bad) questions, and a backpack full of books. I was super nervous, and asked if he minded how many books he signed. He said no. So I proceeded to pull out this gigantic stack of books, everything from Alcatraz to Oathbringer. He signed all fifteen of them. Since I had brought so many, I was super worried I was taking up too much time, so I sort of just put all the books on the ground and started kicking them away. I'm still incredibly embarrassed to this day. Hopefully i can have that experience again at some point and not regret everything i did for the next several years. And I now only have nine unsigned books instead of fifteen. I mostly get overwhelmed around people if it's loud. The signing wasn't too loud, and my friend was great unintentional support in that situation. It was also really small for a Brandon signing, I think, although we were fifth in line. My reaction to noise is very similar to that of heat. But somehow, I do just fine with parrot noises. Kaladin's constant chatter, and once the screaming of a blue and gold macaw, don't really bother me. But people talking or small inconsistent noises can drive me into a state of panic. Oh, and clothing that is too tight or scratchy. Those do the same thing. It's part of why the only jewellery I ever wear is a watch, and I only ever wear jeans, t-shirts, and tennis shoes. I also like consistency. If I changed what I wore every day in any significant way, I'd probably go crazy. And those are some of my random struggles with being a person. ... Luckily, the Shard is very quiet.
  2. Yes, this is very relatable. (The subway in NYC on the way the the airport is probably the worst experience with crowds I've ever had.) Hiking in the summer is only worth it if you can go swimming in the end, preferably for a few hours.
  3. (Vampire club... ) If I get too hot I just sort of... Stop functioning. I get grumpy, can't think straight, and just feel miserable. I've never gotten why people go hiking in the summer. It is literally the worst time of year to be outside.
  4. Should I potentially change my profile picture? Tien has been there for a solid three years, and, well, should I switch it up? I'd probably do a dragon of some sort.

Tien is the name of the kiwi bird, by the way.

I love it, he's so cute!

Both the Kaladin picture and the squirrel are nice as well. Good choices!

And I can't give any more rep. Shoot.

  5. I like being either warm or slightly chilled in the winter, and very cold in the summer. Unless, like Bearer said, I'm about to go swimming. But I have no issues walking around barefoot in the snow or anything like that. What's even better is when it's dark outside, there's snow on the ground, and it's still snowing, and no one is out and about, and you can just hang out in the middle of the street watching the snow fall. (I don't get cold at all if it's snowing, which is a little weird, but I don't complain.) Hm... Maybe this is why I don't have many friends. I prefer the company of snow to people. Or maybe I'm just a vampire and they are worried I'll suck their blood. Either way.
  6. Tannic felt afraid. He hadn't been so afraid for years, and the fear seemed to another all other emotions. And so Talnic used logic. He pushed aside the irrational fear, and turned to Ara. This wouldn't last forever, and they needed to take advantage of it while they could. "Now would be a good time to do wherever it was you were planning," he said softly.
  7. It's the sunshine, I think. I love being out during rain or snow, and when it's cloudy or windy. But just plain sun... It sucks. I also don't like the heat, so... I guess I'm a vampire. *shrug*
  8. Talnic nodded slowly, not looking at the person speaking to him. "Go tell the others," he muttered under his breath.
  9. When you go on a hike through a slot canyon, and it feels incredibly surreal, like you are on the Shattered Plains and like you could run up the walls and stuff. It was fantastic.
  10. But they also usually involve going outside. Which is unfortunate.
  11. I have one friend who has read tWoK and tFE, but only really because I wouldn't stop talking about them. He wasn't overly impressed. I have another who I am trying to convince to read Skyward, but she still won't. My best friend has read most of the Cosmere, and we were both completely obsessed back in middle school. She has since stopped reading as much, but we still make references to books and other things like that. What is sports, precious? (I don't like most sports. They're too peopley. Which is why I ski.)
  12. Talnic stepped forward again, making sure to stay clear of the horse, so he could jump to the side if needed. "Listen, friend," Talnic said softly. "We have seen nothing of this girl you are looking for. Your threats mean nothing. Leave now. Or, I am afraid, we will have to make you." It wasn't a threat he was all too excited to make, as their small group was disorganized, outnumbered, and he had no idea what any of them were capable of. However, he had to trust that some of them knew how to fight. And he himself was accustomed to taking down armoured men, and he would be able to hold his own, although the horses would make that a little more difficult.
  13. Most of my friends enjoy reading, but they aren't obsessed with it or anything. They have things they'd rather be doing.
  14. Talnic swore, turning to the sound of approaching horses. It was the same group as before. He watched as Minuet disappeared into a tree again. "Can we help you?" Talnic asked, itching to reach for his sword.
  15. Last status update for a while, I swear on my books and the many characters who are all very dear to me who reside within their pages.

I'm leaving tomorrow to go on a short trip. I'll try to check in in the morning, but that might not happen. But I'll be back on Tuesday evening, Wednesday at the latest.

Good thing I already finished my secret santa thing. I probably wouldn't have time if I had put it off...

    Happy holidays!

  16. So, last night I finished reading this book called The Historian. It was awesome, until you got to the ending. The ending did not work. Which sucked, because the rest of the book was pretty good. (Except for a few things, but I'll ignore them.)

So, as you do, I immediately started another book last night.

Well, after staring at my bookshelves for a solid ten minutes, trying to decide between reading something new, or finishing my MB era 1 reread or my Percy Jackson reread.

Eventually, I picked up King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo, which I have been meaning to get around to for ages. So, as you do, I took the dust jacket off so I wouldn't damage it while reading the book.

I think I might have lasting eye damage. (Not really.)

    LOOK AT THIS BOOK.

    Spoiler

King Of Scars: 9781510104457: Amazon.com: Books

(This is just a random picture off of Google, by the way. Book with the dust jacket on on the left, no dust jacket on the right.)

I mean... What the heck? Clearly her books do well, if her publisher is willing to do that.

I am personally not a fan. It's too flashy and the cover of a book shouldn't look like that. Plus, some of that gold stuff will rub off as I read. However, it suits the book.

It's very nice to transition to something like this, with writing that is just easier to read. I do, however, need to go back and reread Six of Crows.

This will be a nice break for me, and then I'll get back to MB, and then probably Percy Jackson, and then finally The Wheel of Time, and then maybe Dune or something else like that. Maybe. We'll see. (I keep a list of the books I'm reading in my signature.)

Ah, see I like ornate over-the-top things like this. Embossed hardcovers give me life. Especially ones with with shiny foil  (maybe I am just a crow)

They should be on those fancy books like the leatherbounds, but not on this random YA fantasy I paid $20 for on Amazon...

But if the fancy stuff is on a fancy book, I like it.

  17. That was fantastic! Thanks for sharing! And it was awesome how good the characterization was! And the era one folks meeting the era two folks was awesome. Seriously, this was the best. I usually don't like fan fiction, but crossovers like this have always been awesome. Even if this one couldn't actually happen, it was super fun to read. And if you do write more, I'll be reading it as well!
  18. Despite his shock, Talnic scowled at Owlson's response. "We will talk later," he growled, then stalked off.
  19. Talnic stared at Gal. "You've had experience with prophecies before?" he asked. Talnic faltered for a moment, trying to figure out how to continue with his question. "You must share with me what you know," he finally said.

I just found this one while going through some files. I'll probably make more variations of it in the future.
