This is incredible. I feel like you captured Syl perfectly.
  2. I hate quadratics. Stupid parabolas. That's all I have to say.
  3. Hi! I was thinking a little bit ago about how a lot of people are comfortable sharing their writing, and how many aren't. And how it's very easy to post your work on here, but you can't really do that without a name attached. So, I'd like to make it easy for someone to share their writing anonymously. It's not 100% anonymous as I will know who people are, but I won't comment on anyone's stories unless they would like me to. And no one else will know who you are (unless you decide to reveal that information yourself). I promise. If you would like to share your work anonymously, all you've got to do is PM me with either a link to your story or the story in the message itself. (Or, if you would rather, send it someone else and have them send it to me.) If you have a title for it, send that too! Also, let me know if you want feedback on the story, or if you would like to people to just leave reader reactions or something like that, or if you don't want any comments of any sort. If you don't want feedback or reader reactions, but do want discussion, that discussion should take place on this thread. From there, I will transfer your story into a Google Doc and link to it on this main post. If you don't want any comments, I will make it so that people can't comment on the doc. I will also put what the authors are looking for at the top of each document. Oh, and follow the regular content rules for the Shard. If your story contains something against these guidelines, I will either ask you to censor it, or request that you find a different way to share your work. How you want people to respond to your writing- (pick one or more of the following options and include it in your PM, feel free to specify as much as you want) ~Feedback/critique ~Reader reactions ~Discussion ~Not at all, you just want people to read it ~Other The rules for comments on the documents and on this thread- ~No discussing the identities of these writers. They are sharing their stories in this way so that people don't know who they are. ~Do not discuss stories that people don't want to be discussed, or in a way that the author doesn't want you to. If the author does want conversation about their piece, have at it, but make sure to be polite and respectful. If they just want discussion and not critique, then make sure not to try and provide feedback. ~Remember that there is someone behind the story who didn't want to share it directly. So be very kind and polite, especially when offering feedback. If any of that wasn't clear, let me know and I'll fix it. I have a tendency to repeat myself, as well. This first post will likely change a lot as I go back through and edit things to make it more readable. I'll link to the stories below. Once we have some, that is.
  4. I'm sorry I've been posting so many status updates...

    But this one is important.

Kaladin was letting me take pictures of him this morning without hopping on my phone.

    HE'S SO STORMING ADORABLE.

  5. Talnic noted the glow fading from the bear's eyes, but it didn't matter. He plunged his sword through the bear's neck, and then pulled it out again in a swift motion. Finally, the bear fell still.
  6. Talnic noticed Orpheus spin and instinctively turned in the same direction, pulling out his sword and holding it in a defensive stance. "What is is?" Talnic asked.
  7. *dramatic voice* And the adventurous group set off once again into the unknown, hoping to have left their troubles behind them...
  8. Talnic watched the retreating figures, relaxing slightly. "They might come back, you know," he said to Minuet, keeping his gaze on the riders. "And try to move a little more into the trees, so they won't be able to see you if they look back. And we should get moving again."
  9. Welcome to the Shard! And that's a fantastic piece of art!
  10. Oh, dear... I do not believe I have done anything to demonstrate my affiliation with all of you yet, and so I will remain here, although I will have to be subtle with my presence. If I am seen with you, I will not be able to properly infiltrate anything. Unless I say that I am infiltrating this group....
  11. Talnic crossed his arms, watching to see if the group of riders really would retreat.
  12. Nah, you poison them with the bread. You put the antidote in the jam. But leave the antidote out of the jelly.
  13. Ooooooooooh. Thanks. In that case, I agree with you. Jam is better.
  14. Talnic sighed. "Yes, I'm quite sure. Unless you want me to give you fake information, which I am perfectly willing to do, although I don't see how that would help you at all."
  15. I'll tell her you approve next time she brings it up. Edit: This friend is currently texting me, and for some reason we're arguing about whether jam or jelly is better. Is there even a difference? I'm rather confused.
  16. I have five more posts until I reach 1,600. (Also known as 16 hundred.)

    What should I do?

I'll probably wait until tomorrow to do whatever it is I decide to do.

      I can't make art.

      Not well, at least.

It might be amusing for me to try, however. And I can't post until I decide.

Do posts in the gallery count towards your number of posts?

      The Awakened Salad

      They do, I believe.

And it doesn’t have to be fancy or anything!

Unfortunately, I wanted to post something this morning...

I'll do something for my 2,000th, though.

  17. I once hit my friend with a mass market copy of WoR. Ask her about it. She'll still complain. I don't feel bad, though. She ripped the back cover a little. My actions were justified.
  18. The Way of Kings is my favorite for several reasons. The biggest of these is that it was my first ever Sanderson book. I read it for the first time when I was twelve, and have read it a solid eleven times since then. The second is that it's storming awesome. I sometimes go back through it and read the prelude or the death rattles or something, and I just... It's so good. Kaladin is also my favorite character, and I just love watching him progress so much in so many different ways (in different parts of his life) throughout the book. I think Words of Radiance is my least favorite. But the ending is fantastic. It's probably one of my favorite Sanderson endings. Except for maybe tHoA... Or tWoK... Or maybe Warbreaker... (Gah, there's so many options...) I really liked RoW. All of the SA books are amazing, and besides tWoK, I think they all might actually be tied... All of their weaknesses are evened out by their Awesomeness, I guess.
  19. Talnic dashed towards the sound of oncoming horses, leaving Triage behind him. He pulled to a stop beside Orpheus, resting a hand on the pommel of his sword. "There is no one by that description here," Talnic said, standing tall. "You might try Zemel, however. Many travelers go in that direction." Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a faint flash of movement in the tree Minuet had disappeared into. A small puff of snow floated down. Thankfully, none of the riders seemed to have noticed. If she wanted to remain hidden, Talnic wouldn't be the one to expose her.
  20. Aleutian Standard Time. And sure.
  21. I'll meet you out in the parking lot at nine...
  22. I'm going to say it again and again... I really want a sword. The problem is, as replicas, they're probably made from stainless steel, which is great for display swords, but utterly useless for practical weapons. I think the Stormlight books might be a better option in this scenario. (It doesn't stop the swords from being epic, though.)
  23. Shhh... Don't stop me from trying to market the illegal 1960's fantasy novels... It's the only way I can buy my own books...
