  1. And age difference might not seem that weird now but would be reeeally weird if both Jasnah and Kaladin survive first half of SA and there will be 15 to 20 years time skip. Kaladin would be in his 30th and Jasnah eh 50th+ if not closer to 60. That would be weird if theyll hook up.
  2. No. I didnt read WB and thought Azure is the new intriguing character. That didnt prevent me from feeling the connection between her and Kaladin. Kalazure would be nice.
  3. I waited for 3 years to see their dynamic. And in my opinion that ship just drowned in the first scene where they argued. The only part that confused me is that: Did she flirt with him here? Well, if shed replace "your team" with "you" then id difinitely consider it as flirting. But other than that weird part i found zero indication of potential for that ship. The next scene where Jasnah saw Kaladin's picture Shallan drew also show that she simply wasnt interested in the guy. In OB there is no even hints on them being interested in each other. The only scene was the first one with Jasnah asking Shallan who is that Windrunner she didnt talk with yet. And even there BS didnt take an opportunity to make some hints. Also i really didnt dig their banter. It felt forced on Jasnah part. She really lack empathy and that trait, i think, is very significat for Kaladin to be attracted. Tarah and Shallan show empathy. When he found out that laral became a cold woman he immediately lost any interest in her. I see that Kaladin's passion and intensity and higher than average intelligence might be attractive for Jasnah though. But thats not enough. They talked only once in 1200+ pages didnt they?
  4. And dont forget that scene when she found out about Kaladin killing Helaran. Thats was a pretty strong burst out of the emotions that Shallan tried to suppress extremely hard and i believed it would be unleashed in equal way someday. BS then simply cut off that string and never bring up her emotions about it again. Instead we saw Shallan slowly bullying Kaladin, probably because of that. That makes me believe she will explode in the Book4 or 5 about that. Her initial reaction was too noticeable to just fade away and be dealt with. And i think Shallan isn't the one who will allow such things to fade away so simply. Also BS usually show how characters deal with their problems in the form of inner thoughts and reflection. He didn't show how Shallan went from burying her emotions to "well, whatever" state of mind. That makes me think we simply didn't see these thoughts yet.
  5. As i posted before, here is the intention on BS part to show the different reactions of Shallan on both Adolin and Kaladin. Some assumptions: 1) Adolin comforts her in the minutes of weakness and make her feel protected and let to forget about the problems. 2) Kaladin rises her up, makes firm and strong, and inspires her. Basically with Adolin Shallan can be an ostrich to hide her head under the ground to ignore the inner and outer problems. With Kaladin she can be the woman who fight the inner and outer problems. Its funny because she can live keeping the "Journey before Destination" Oath choosing any of the two options. She can hide from problems and do her stuff as LW towards the victory with Adolin or fight them on her way with Kaladin. Still i remember: In my opinion, feelings Adolin get out of Shallan wont make her better if to put her in the context of Dalinar's words. Kaladin can make Shallan so much better than she is.
  6. Am i the only one who happy to see Kaladin getting some kid stuff to carry about. First newborn brother, then Elhokar's son. Its pretty cute. I bet the 4th book will contain some "Kaladin taught to be a father" scenes because he has both newborn brother and Elhokar's kid to carry about. Well, Elhokar son would most likely be carried by Navani and Dalinar but i bet Kaladin will feel the need to teach the boy how to be a good men since Elhokare asked him to carry for his son. Maybe in book 5th and further we will se matured Kaladin who teach young brother and young Elhokar son. That would be cool.
  7. That scene in Kholinar where Kaladin wait for Shallan near the palace and she came to him and asked what did he think about her boots just cracked me up for some reason. She is going to use that theme always isn't she?
  8. At this point i actually prefer Kaladin to stay alone. As someone mentioned before he is more matured and ill tell more - Kaladin overgrew the relationships with girls. Its in the way BS depicted Adolin and Shallan - simple boy and girl, a simple people with their flaws and desire to be happy - and Kaladin, hovering above the ground observing the world from the sky like a godlike sentry, thinking about how to save the world. Everything is in that contrast in these last chapters. Kaladin no more belongs to that kind of relationships until hell find out someone really fitting. He just has Great Deeds to make to even be bothered by some love stuff. And I'm perfectly fine with it after OB. Kaladin is strong enough to carry the world and he has Syl to be comforted.
  9. Things that made me confused or irritated in OB about Adolin, Shallan and Kaladin. 1)BS only once mentioned Adolin noticing how Shallan looked at Kaladin, in the end of the Part 4. Then he brought that "i saw you looking at each other all the time" arguement. Id prefer BS to build up this arguement better, cause it looks like brought it as a fast made up point for Adolin to wish to broke up with Shallan. 2)Repeating of the same back and forth. I swear someday ill put the whole OB into MSWord and use the search of "his blue eyes", "handsome" and "dangerous eyes" objects. I bet i fill find alot of the scene where Shallan said this stuff. The same with Kaladin. How many times he told himself "Im not going to be with her"? At least three times. damnation, that some delightfull masochism. 3)For some reason since the Part 2 or Part 3 of OB BS for some reason started to heavily imply that its Veil who liked Kaladin, parallelly baiting us with Shallan showing the hints of interest in him too. Thats confusing and irritating. 4)They dont talk each other. BS wave away Adolin murder like nothing, as well as make Kaladin to not be bothered with telling to Shallan about Helaran, and make Shallan be absolutely fine with Helaran death. Well, given how she bullied Kaladin, she is not fine but dont bother to explain to Kaladin why she does this. Thats pretty egoistic behaviour id say. 5)The whole solution. That was pretty painfull. BS did everything to show that both Adolin and Shallan ruin their relationship in that scene showing all their issues yet decided to hook up nevertheless basically saying "Lets Ignore It". Also "I really love him" thing. Well, i dont get the "real thing" vibe from that. There was no proper build up and it just didnt work for me. 6)Yet BS continued teasing us untill the very end bringing Shallan staring at Kaladin hovering above the roof even during Shallan-Adolin conversation. He could have avoid it but no.
  10. Here we go, people! What do you think about our beloved, (maybe) former love triangle in Oathbringer? How do you feel Shadolin was handled, Shadolin fans? Do you think Kaladin and Shallan has the potential to hook up in the further books, Shalladin fans? And which of the two ships you liked more in Oathbringer? Great summary of the topic made by @Ailvara https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VqLjiUojkPqIfLJLyu7OnykTP3i-LG0f5f1KjRSJE6A/edit?usp=sharing If you like it, if you agree with it, then please, twit that link to Brandon Sanderson. Let him notice that analysis and read it. That would be the great feedback for him.
  11. Now, Shallan and Adolin was pretty much set in stone untill something will happen in the next books. Yet there are many interesting bits left that make me feel Brandon will continue to explore and develop in the future. Its essential for a top-class writer Sanderson is. I dont know how much the Shalladin affinity infuences my prism i analyze the scenes through, but i try to avoid it. Reading the last chapters i came to conclusion that: 1)Brandon tried to set that Shallan really loves only Adolin while Veil liked Kaladin. Yet that scene consist of only both Adolin's hesitation and realization of harsh truth and Shallan's rush to feel herself normal and stable. And once again Adolin talks about her as about the prize. And still Shallan has no time to tell him about her past in a 1200 pages story. 2)Kaladin's thoughts and words on the top of roof. Here i finally got the feeling that Kaladin is simply more than the love relationships. He has a Great Deeds to be made in the future. He has such a monumental presence in the last chapters and his heavy thoughfull words clearly gave me the vibe that Kaladin is man who can simply overgrow the love triangles. I really realized i would be fine if he will be alone forever. He fits his role. There is really much of Shallan-Adolin-Kaladin stuff left untouched and unsolved. One may say that sometimes it doesnt need to be touched and solved, that people sometimes tend to live with unsolved issues happy, and i see where their point come from and accept it. Yet i feel that Brandon intentionally made it absolutely clear that Shallan and Adolin is the real ship and intentionally made it look NOT perfect. One thing i definitely dont get and dislike is that since when its Veil who like Kaladin but not Shallan? BS so intensively force that idea and that confused me. Shallan seemd Shallany Shallan when she was attracted to Kaladin in the Chasms and after them. And Shallan claiming "its just a Veil" sounded like a lie because of that confusing "out of nowhere" idea. Thats weird. Well, i guess we need the new thread about these three happy friends.
  12. Well, i need to share my first impressions that possibly arent accurate. 1)Thesis - the book is undercooked. I consider it might be the false feeling because: a)We wait the book for 3 years!!! discussing the same theories and plot lines over and over again. b)I read it in merely 2 days!!! What parts of it gave me that feeling? -Plot lines that were left in the previous books. While some of them hit hard, other felt like a missed opportunity and underplayed lines. Adolin murdering Sadeas wasnt adressed and explored enough, Helaran death by the hand of Kaladin, Ialai potential plotting, Jasnah journey and return, some potentially interesting scenes like the one when Kaladin and Co flew to Thaylenah were skipped, as well as organizational problems put before Kaladin, even the famous love triangle felt staled. He barely touched some of the themes. And given the cover of OB i really expected 4 and 5 parts to be devoted to Kholinar's siege. But thats me. -Some characters really didnt get enough love. I missed Adolin, Renarin, sometimes Kaladin that disappeared much enough. -I expected to see more Jasnah-Everyone dialogues, Dalinar-Kaladin dialogues, Shallan-Everyone dialogues. As i said before, all of that might be overseen after deep and slow reread. I jumped like crazy swallowing the page after page so might miss many interesting bits that would fix the feeling i got from the book. 2)There are three plot lines i love the most: -Dalinar. -Kaladin. -Elhokar. I dont want to explain why because its really simple - they hit hard and they are amazing. Istruggled to like Shallan's line cause it revolves around pretty specific and unique theme of mental disorder and such things dont click well with me, while the scene of Parshendi and Humans killing each other with Kaladin crying in the middle of battle hit so hard our the very basic feelings. Its just made me almost crying myself, as well as Elhokar who spoke the part of First Oath before his son and then got stabbed in the chest and eye. 3)The third and fifth parts are my favourite. Kholinar mini arc reminded me some rpg with our main characters doing quests. Overall main trio and Elhokar have a very good dynamic. 4)About love triangle. Well nothing changed. Shallan and Kaladin have literally the same thoughts about each other and Adolin they had in the end of WoR. But there are two particular scenes that support the same trend. Im pretty sure Brandon wrote them that way absolutely intentionally. That made me exclude trolling on his part. He knows what he is doing: Shallan's reaction to Adolin: Shallan's reaction to Kaladin, couple minutes later: Adolin let her be weak. Kaladin makes her strong. Id actually prefer him to do more subtle but powerfull scenes like this rather than make Shallan repeat "Adolin is warm and has charming smile/Kaladin has passion and dangerous eyes" mantra all the time. And yes, he made Adolin and Shallan go together like in WoR yet hinted on Kaladin/Shallan probably being the better idea. Thats just first impressions, after reread i expect my view on things changed in some parts.
  13. After this part i just.... Its a middle of the night, in the morning i need to go to work and here i am lying on the bed seriously thinking to finish the last 40 chapters in a 4-5 hours instead of some sleep.
  14. Hilghlights: -Hobber's legs. -Lift's commentary on Dalinar's butt. -Jasnah slammed Amaram like crazy. -Odium appearance. Overall impressions: This part felt dragged and in some parts pretty boring. Shallan line was boring, Jasnah wasn't that exciting for me due to her personality. We had no Adolin and no Kaladin's PoV. And i absolutely dislike sudden Teft's addiction to drugs and alcohol. BS tried to explain it, but it felt an extremely unnecessary character arc. Teft always felt like the guy who gonna bring people tougher while Kaladin somewhere else, competent and badass. I expected to see some issues of him but not THAT kind of issues. And, maybe some people will burn me for what ill say, but i fond some dialogues i was excited to read pretty forced and unnatural, like the one between Kaladin and Jasnah. Now, maybe its just my expectations, but i really expected to see more communication between Kaladin and Dalinar, between Kaladin and Shallan, between Adolin and Kaladin, between Jasnah and Navani, between Malata and everyone else. Well, there are a few more parts. Im looking forward to this.
  15. Malarin sounds beautiful.
  16. My imagination just draw the Malata/Renarin scene with Malata encouraging him screaming "Weirder! Weirder!"
  17. Now thats the ship! Just imagine their dynamic.
  18. Also i predict the pairing thread will be the biggest one in the entire OB spoiler section. in Gandalf voice Prepare for battle.
  19. Highlights of the Part 1: -Kaladin is Roshar's Superman. Kaladin loves to be recognized and worshipped. He may not think so but subconsciously he wants it. I can see it in every move he did before the crowd. He may think he does this just to encourage the people but he also enjoys it sooooo much. I enjoy this too. -Syl gonna find some good girl for Kaladin and show how its should be done. In other corner is Pattern who gonna prevent Shallan from doing stupid things in bed. -Adolin is surprisingly a very pragmatic guy when it comes to emotional sphere. And you, young Kholin; we shall watch your career with great interest. -Shallan is ill. Where is that inspiring, witty and red hot girl from the chasms? -Soon, very soon Dalinar "Freddy Krueger" Kholin gonna rock the dreams of other rulers. -Taravangian gonna throw our heroes into hell. I bet he is the final villain. -Parshendi are good guys, im calling it. -Jasnah is fabulous as f.... Thats it. Cant wait to read the next parts.
  20. Navani+Dalinar is obvious conclusion, Shallan+Adolin gonna make it out i guess and Kaladin will be alone cause he need no one cause he has Sylgirl. Also Jasnah+Amaram because i want it.
  21. Well that thing just made me realize some creepy potential stuff. I mean this.
  22. Just like the Eve i searched for some spoilers for OB part 2 and suddenly found quite a few of them. Now i feel myself guilty and sinful. Dammit.
  23. In before the real Shallan is broken technically mentally dead girl who somehow created an illusion of redhead healthy girl and her absurd dark drawings are the result of sudden splashes of brain activity. Like the drawing of mentally ill people that doesnt make sense. Shallan lies so good that even managed to deceive own mind. In chocking twist she will realize that the real Shallan is broken mentally ill girl and Shallan we always knew is just the manifestation of her powers. Well, scary idea.
  24. Its not photo but a video about one absolutely badass asian bodybuilder. Looking at him i imagine matured Kaladin. There even the phot of him as 20+ yo guy and he look exactly how i imagine Kaladin look like. His facial strucuture can be described with Shallan's words.
  25. After ending the Part 1 i realized how i miss Chasms Shallan. Smart, understanding, witty, not pretending to be someone else. Just genuine Shallan'y Shallan. The girl we saw in the Part 1 is the hyper-reflective self-eating multi-person. I actually dont like her if to look at her as the whole. Bring my Shallan back!
