Oh, and i forgot to mention. Reading about Shallans feelign about Urithiru, i got a thought "Dayuuuum, Urithiru gotta be a giant capital ship Heralds came to Roshar on". I mean, everything in Urithiru felt "alien" to Shallan, even material the city was made from. More and more i believe its a dreaming flying space city fed on Stormlight. I wonder was Stormlight even native feature of Roshar or Heralds brought it to Roshar via this ship, and thus brought the imbalance to this planet.

I wasnt so sad having zero Kaladin's chapter. Here the few thoughts: 1)Shallan's story was pretty instensive and interesting. I wonder what if the tale is about young Shalash. White hairs are the hint. 2)Dalinar is savage. He wanted to kill his brother. Holy rust! 3)Wait a minute! The copycat murderer now became an absolute mystery. So IT copycats not only murders, but also wounds? Thats became confusing now. Id assume there is not so much murders in the Alethi warcamps. But wounds, im sure, much more, random or intentionally inflicted. IF copycat murderer copies even wounds, then the cases of wounds inflicted shoud be doubled! Id assume there should be dozens of cases around the whole Urithiru then every day, and everyone would know about that! But everyone seemed pretty calm and quiet. 4)Ah, they have gotten the word from Kaladin. I expected there will be a dramatic conclusion of bunker's scene, but it seemed everything went well for Kaladin and Parshendi since he was able to send the word, and they went further after the Storm. 5)Yeah, i wonder was Malata's mention of Spark a totally made up story created by Taravangian. I mean, she mentioned Spark but Brandon made an emphasis on the lack of Spark's presence. Right now nothing besides Taravangian and Malata's words indicates that Malata is true Dustbringer, not just a liar with Dusbtringer's Honorblade. And damnation she is annoying with this "sister". 6)I feel Brandon dropped this quote in the same chapter with Shallan learning about Kaladin's relation to Helaran's death with a certain intention. It was a foreshadowing. 7)You know what, i thought i knew Adolin from the feet to the ears. But in OB Adolin changed my view on him. He is really practical and flexible guy. I wouldnt be surprised he dropped the info about Kaladin killing Helaran with a certain intentions in mind, not because he is too of a simple man who doesnt understand the human's feelings and when he need to keep his mouth shut. Overall very informative and interesting chapters. Now we need to wait another week. Dammit.

Now im hyped for Lift appearance in the OB. Im not saying anything, but we have Windrunner (Kaladin), Lightweaver (Shallan), Bondsmith (Dalinar) and Edgedancer (Lift) Heralds. Since three of them are in the OB, i aslo expect the fourth one character to appear.

I feel like this new Yellow Spren will stay with us at least till the end of the OB. Maybe she is actually a Stonewarden spren and will form the second Nahel bound with Kaladin for him to live by two different orders. Windrunner oaths to protect humankind, Stonewarden oaths to protect Parshendi, thus keep the balance and peace between two races?
-
Am i the only one who foresee the fight between Syl and this Voidspren in OB or, if not, the Voidspren being Kaladin's personal friend/foe in the following books?
-
So, why did Malata smile at Dalinar? 1)Is it because she knows what Taravangian gonna do to him and anticipates that? 2)Is it because she likes Dalinar as a woman? In a femme fatale way. 3)Is it because she is just a b....? 4)Is it because she killed (as she think) Jasnah? 5)Or its just a nature of Dustbringer to look like a bringer of destruction?
-
Just a single chapter and Syl-Kal-Voidspren ship has left the harbor.
-
We will get Kaladin/Shallan/Dalinar or Dalinar/Kaladin/Shallan, or Dalinar/Adolin/Kaladin i feel.

Kaladin meeting with Jashan during the siege of Kholinar. Jasnah: I need your help, captain. Dalinar said we can count on each other. Kaladin: Its so funny that another light eyes woman need my help. Jasnah: I hear your echoing in the walls of prejudice's cage. Calm down, captain. We are the same. Knights Radiant. Syl: I like her. Mating plz. Kaladin: *sigh*

I wonder was there a reason Evi's name is Evil without L? Brandon seems like to give characters mean names this chapter. Rial has it too.

I dont know who Rial is but Brandon did too much emphasis on him. He isnt just a usual guard.
-
some random thoughts. what if Kadash is Evi's brother? what if Shallan was a copycat murder?
-
Evi is Evil. I guarantee. Something is wrong with her, i can feel it. In before she was illusion created by Odium to throw Dalinar into serious shshshshs. Also, let me see: Kaladin likes Shallan, Syl dislikes Adolin, Pattern likes Adolin (and probably will dislike Kaladin), Adolin likes Shallan. Everything became even more complicated now.

Am i the only one who played X-Files Theme during the last part of Shallan's chapter??? I swear thats something paranormal happening in Urithiru. Maybe there is some insane city-spren, who lost his mind after KR betrayal? Or its another KR we didn't know about who does all this stuff. Someone like Willshaper?

[OB] Shalladin isn't as bad of an idea as you think.

Yep, right now i see his purpose as "Help my father", "protect my family", "not screw up my relationships with Shallan". It revolves around small group of people and looks like an essential purpose every character could have. It doesnt make up a really interesting and strong character progression. I have a feeling Brandon should make him... more ambitious, i guess, to stop being an addition, figurally a hound for Dalinar to bite enemies. I want him to start thinking "what i need to do now?", where i should go". And then go to do this. Cause while Kaladin, Dalinar and Shallan has many cards in their sleeves to carry the chapters, Adolin doesnt have it. Few POVs he got in OB are those where he does insignificant job to forget about Sadeas or, again, shared scene with Renarin where we once again see him as a good guy and the guy who does nothing significant. He has nothing to carry own chapters. I hope Brandon will give him some purpose, or forge him the one. -

In my opinion Shalladin type of trope was executed very well till now. I just reread that chasm scene. It was filled with intimate scenes and subtle or straight hints. If to imagine the two scales, one for Shadolin and second for Shalladin, the second one went up from -10 to +100 points in just few chapters. Right now, reading this thread, i try to rethink my attitude towards Shadolin, and the main result i got is that i find Adolin the character who cant stand on his own. He always is a support character, addition to Dalinar (assistant), or Kaladin (foil), or Shallan (lover). As a character he is less fledged than Moash who has a strong purpose, and goal, and goes towards it. That leads me to desire to see Adolin alone. Or not alone, but doing something meaningfull on his own. Creating his own story, without the need to be only an addition to Shallan, or Dalinar, or Kaladin. I hope his new tasks will allow him to do this. Thats why i think he earlier or later will break up with Shallan and go his own path. Maybe that path will meet Shallan's path again., few books later. But i doubt their current relationships will lead towards happy ending. If Shadolin would be a couple at the very end im sure both of them and their relationships would be purged, cleansed and reforged. Shalladin, at the same time, has already began that process. -

Oh boy, the OB shipping war has finally began. It amuses me that Shadolin's supporters usually bring the love triangle issue as an argument against Shalladin while the real barrier for it is the Helaran's incident that was clearly left by Brandon for the dessert. I guess that happens because almost everyone subconsciously feel that the spark between Kaladin and Shallan is much brighter. To begin with the love triangle is only bad when its execution is bad. Im pretty sure Sanderson is talented enough and have enough assistants and beta readers to execute it in an enoyable and maybe even fresh untrivial way. I know the downsides and upsides of love triangle trope as well as i know the downsides and upsides of "Charming Prince-Book worm girl" tropes. And for me the second trope is much more cringeworthy and mawkish. Im glad Sanderson didnt make Shadolin's shared scenes too sweet and sugary. Otherwise i would hate it. But im not. Shadolin has a potential. It finally got some sources of future conflict and the conflict usually is the engine of romantic relationships in fantasy books. But in the form it exists now its intentionally artificial relationships. The same goes to the Helaran's incident. It is the source of conflict. Its good cause that means Shalladin's relationships wont stale. There will be the development, positivie, negative, positive again and so on. Good romance cant exist without the conflict to overcome. The main reason why i think Shalladin was improved more than Shadolin is that in Shadolin scenes Sanderson deliberately tells us what Shallan and Adolin thinking. He never misses the chance to tell us that Shallan melted looking into Adolin's eyes. Adolin tells us that he loves Shallan. While in every scene with Shallan and Kaladin, shared or not, Sanderson shows us what they thinking of each other. We dive into Shallans thoughts when she with admiration and delight describes Kaladin's nature. We see her randomly thinking about "brightlord broody eyes" while doing her work. We exactly knows how Kaladin feels and sees Shallan and what he think about her and Adolin. We see these moments when Brandon deliberately shows how unintentionally Shallan hugs Kaladin in the chasm, how she instinctively put her head on his chest, how he hugs her and fully appreciates the warm of her body. Yes there were circumstances Adolin and Shallan never shared. Shadolin also has this kind of unintentional things, but they are much less noticable and didnt strike an eye. Maybe its because im Shalladin supporter, who knows. But i know that good author tends to show us not to tell. And im pretty sure Sanderson intentionally uses that skill to underline the artificality of Adolin and Shallan's relationships, while underline the genuine and natural affection and glimpse of passion between Kaladin and Shallan. Btw, i would be glad if Brandon will put Adolin and Shallan in some dangerous situation because that can make them spark. -
The thing that came to mind is that we will see the capital drown in insanity with mad Queen sitting on her throne surronded by zealots and cultists. She saw the chaos as an opportunity to bring the religion upon the city and citizens. And parallelly i see Elhokar as the man who witnessed what that Queen did to his home. I believe that would be his and Aesudan's personal plot line for OB. Crazy religious wife and fragile but good husband. Thats where Elhokar will be forged into someone better.

Reading Adolin/Sallan scenes i still sense some artificiality in them. In the way Shallan think about Adolin, the way they talk to each other. There is pure joy to read well crafted banter, they share but below the surface there is lack of something that make me feel they love each other. Im sure its Brandon's intention, not just mine random nitpicking. Maybe its a lack of emotional connection between them. Brandon didn't make their conversation in 13 and 15 chapter any different from their conversations in WoR. Shallan still "melt looking at Adolin's eyes" and think that "it okay that Adolin is who he is".
-
I think given who Adolin always was and how he was in the first chapters of OB, his attitude is pretty normal. He never was too responsible. -He killed the guy who provoke him and treated to kill his family. -He tried to dive into the work to not think about this. -He found out what everyone think about Sadeas death. Everyone are okay with it and even Dalinar didn't spend few chapter to talk about how bad was a killer. -Yet he distanced himself from everyone. -Yet the murder still subconsciously bothers Adolin. Just like he tried to beat into Shallan the info about two killers, like he tried to forget about everything teaching Shallan how to use Sharblade. I think Adolin attitude was depicted realistically. Pretty sure in the end of OB he'll burst out with confession. It will happen not because he feel himself a bad guy for killing Sadeas. No. It will happen because he isn't a good liar and ultimately pretty soft guy. Lie and secrecy would devour him until he'll confess.

While i agree with Eshonai's part i never think about some "white saviour" stuff. I mostly think about how this will create a conflict between Dalinar and Kaladin and develop Kaladin's character. The first one view Parshendi as a potential Voidbringers and the second one, who back then was a slave, will realize that humankind to Parshendi is what light eyes were to dark eyes. He can feel the need to defend those who just want to be free.
