  1. Checked it, that's true. More: Potentially there could be 16 beads of Lerasium at the Well: Wax was Sixteenth High Lord of House Ladrian which I bet isn't a coincidence. He's Harmony's Sword after all. And Wax's mansion is at Sixteen Ladrian Place. Wayne shot a person when he was 16. Those are only from the AoL. Now that I'm searching through books for numbers, there is surprisingly a lot of repetition of those specific numbers, which I didn't catch earlier. Interesting. I feel a lot like some conspiracy theorist searching for every weird repetition of some number. Most are rather random so they shouldn't matter.
  2. I see now. 9 Heralds abandoned the Oathpact leaving 9 Honorblades behind. Edit: @Firesong 10 Honorspren were created by Stormfather as the first generation after Recreance.
  3. 10 Fools? And I think it was also mentioned somewhere that a dozen is 10 on Roshar. Calendar is also based on the number 10 - 10 months with 10 weeks each, with 5 days each. 500 days per year. The Weeping is also 4 weeks long with the middle day being either sunny day or Highstorm - so it's both 10 days apart the beginning and end. Rosharan year is also only 10% longer than standard (https://coppermind.net/wiki/Roshar#Calendar). And what about 9? Tears of Edgli have 5 petals (look at the photo in the WoB and likely finalized design on https://coppermind.net/wiki/Tears_of_Edgli): There are 2x5 Heightenings as well, but this isn't a direct connection. Also there were 5x5 gods in the court during Warbreaker. and 5x10000 is the 10th Heightening. The Idris religion also has something called 5 visions that the first Returned To received. Lightsong returned 5 years before Warbreaker. Siri owned 5 dresses in Idris (not a rule however). There were 5 god-kings including Susebron but not Peacegiver. Nightblood is 5ft long. Because of the characters we're talking about I think those things would be because of Fortune (the length of Nightblood is comfortable for Returned to wield, so it's even more connected). There was also lots of random repetition of the number 5 - like 5 Lifeless in the alleyway, 5 lemons juggled by Lightsong, 5 tassels in Vasher's sleeve, 5 brothers and sisters of Jewels, Vahr starting rebellion 5 years ago and so on. Random but number 5 is repeated constantly (I say Fortune!) There were 13 Yuki-Hijo other than Yumi. Wasn't there also 13 days in a week? I remember that weeks are longer there (27 days is only over 2 weeks - said in ch 27). Lumar has a thing for 12 - 12 moons, Aethers, spores, seas etc. But no Shard is there. Edit: I didn't see the amount of 3 on Roshar. Could it be Cultivation's number? Nice one.
  4. I didn't forget about you! Now I can finally read about your creation in peace and dissect it deeply. Actually you don't need Shard's power to keep it stable. It is stable. The sub-moon orbits your moon at around 17000 km, while your moon's Hill Sphere (a region in which a moon can have its own moon) is up to 50000 km. Your sub-moon is fully stable once caught. She could catch it when it came, but once caught it will stay like this for a loooong time. What about protective clothing? Like during winter or summer? Are they walking top naked during winter if they want because I'm getting cold just thinking about it? That's interesting but this combination of moral laws and being consumed by emotions is concerning. Wouldn't that mean that if a person gets consumed by anger, or other negative emotions, he could potentially caused the same to happen with others and then the majority of this community will be raging with fury, which would shift their morality and they would become an angry mob giving harsh punishments for something that shouldn't be even considered punishable? Like turning lights on in the middle of the night? But that's a big extreme, on the lower end there is a possibility that many people will get strongly influenced by certain emotions changing their view and judgment. I find this combination to be very interesting. I think if your metal is noticeably warm to touch its half-life definitely shouldn't be in trillions of years. It would not be measurable. Natural uranium isn't warm to touch and its half-live is only in billions of years. For comparison Pu-238 is used as a heat source because its half-life is just 87 years, and it can reach such temperature to glow red. Ra-226 with a half life of ~1600 years is just a few degrees warmer than the surrounding, almost not noticeable. Of course investiture changes the equation a bit but trillions of years is mind-bogglingly long, far too long for it to be noticeable warm. I like it. Did you think about the Hemalurgic effect? Overall this world sounds quite interesting, I like how expressive they are and the concept of being consumed by their own emotions. That can lead to many interesting stories. Another one? You're spoiling us! This was deep. I've finally understood the full scale of the tragedy of the Shattering! If only he wasn't Shattered we would have this beautiful world full of those extremely intelligent, almost divine beings like you've described. Such a loss I would argue that this is because of Vessel’s interpretation of Shard's intent that influences what those Shards are about. We have it confirmed in the case of Ruin - Ati found the interpretation of its intent that binds it to be about entropy, a natural part of the world, not pure ruin. Odium tried to do the same with Passion but on a far greater scale. You could do the same, intent that doesn't represent the full scale of the Shard because a Vessel is influencing it. I have an announcement to make. I'm working on my new world. For weeks I was toying with the idea of a rogue planet (a planet without any star, ejected from the system) but couldn't make it habitable. But yesterday I got a surge of inspiration and suddenly a picture fell into my mind. Everything is developing quite naturally (even magic) so far so I may be able to create this world after all. It won't be like my previous two worlds, not a hellish landscape that is somehow habitable (it should be the worst place to live on but I've found a way) and I have quite a few interesting ideas about the ecology of this planet. For now this is all in the form of an incoherent mess of notes written half in English, half in Polish (I literally have sentences where every second word is in English) so I have to start organizing them and make something out of this idea when it's still fresh in my mind.
  5. Yes, that's the thing. Brilliant description. As they say don't judge a book by its cover, you wouldn't recognise Cosmere in that thing There is always the official name, "Wood's alloy" I think, and it's the same in Polish. But that doesn't fit with books that much so it's better this way. Nothing that I'm aware of. I think it would be rather hard to literally translate Blushweaver in a way to make it sound right and represent her character. But finding a fitting name just around the "Blush" part shouldn't be that hard and it would accurately describe her beauty. Poranna Rosa has nothing in common with blush, but it's a bit poetic representation of beauty so it somehow fits, but it could be better.
  6. I'm mostly content with Polish translation as it's quite literal and fitting English words. I don't really remember any big mistranslations, it helps a lot that most Cosmere books were translated by the same person almost from the beginning and she does it very well. Stormlight is "Burzowe Światło" (I forgot to wish you good luck with pronunciation) which literally means "storm light". Investiture is translated into "Napełnienie" which means "something that fills" (I personally often use the word "inwestytura" which I think has the same meaning as English "Investiture" - giving ranks and titles - I don't know why this word wasn't chosen). Fused are "Stopieni" which means "fused/melted person". Shadesmar is "Cieniomorze" which means "the sea of shades". Names of Shards are the same for Honor and Odium (the same to the letter), while Cultivation is translated to "Pielęgnacja" which is used as a word that means "caring of plants/people to make them grow/better", not literally cultivation as that's the word "uprawa" and is used more in the context of farm and field work - but translations of cultivation are similar in both cases. Other Shards are also almost all directly translated so I won't talk about every one of them (unless you want it). Spren is spren. No weirdness here. Radiant orders are translated well, but not literal, often simplified. Windrunners are "Wiatrowi" which kind of means "people of the wind' or something like that (-runners part isn't included, I can't imagine it being included as it would just sound wrong). Skybreakers are "Niebiańscy" - "people of the sky/heaven". Edgedancers are translated directly as "Tancerze Krawędzi", Lightweavers as well as "Tkacze Światła" and so are Bondsmiths who are "Kowale Więzi" and Truthwatchers are also literally translated to "Widzący Prawdę". Stonewards are "Skalni Strażnicy" which is "stone guardians". Elsecallers are "Przenosiciele" which means "those who transfer/carry". Willshapers are "Kształtujący" which means "those who shape". Dustbringers are "Pyłowcy", which means "people of the dust", and this is still very close to the word Voidbringers, which is "Pustkowcy" - "people of the void". I love that those words are even closer than in English version. It's usually very close or at least fitting to the order. For all the "High-something" like Highstorm or Highprince we use the prefix "Arcy-" which I think would fit the best for the "Arch-" like in "archangel" word (personally I like arcy/arch much better then high, it sounds more epic). Chasmfiend is tricky, it's "Przepastna bestia" - the word "przepastna" means "very deep or wide" but it's very closely related to the word "przepaść" which means "chasm". "Bestia" means "beast". So those togehter kind of means "a beast of chasms" or something like that. Soulcaster is "Dusznik", which is a similar to the word "dusza" which means "soul". So this kind of means "person of the soul"? Maybe? Hard to tell. Something with the soul, there is no word "dusznik" in Poiish (I've just google it, there is, "Dusznik" is archaic word, it means "a person who has been offered to the Church along with the land it occupies, in exchange for prayers for the donor's soul", it fits quite well, I had no idea...). Soulcasting is "Dusznikowanie", it's a simple verb of "Dusznik". Most other names I can think of right now are translated rather literally. Mistborn is easy. Mistborn is "Zrodzony z Mgły", which is direct. Allomancy, Feruchemy and Hemalurgy is just copied into "Allomancja", "Feruchemia" and "Hemalurgia", and the same with people Allomancer, Feruchemist and Hemalurgist - "Allomancer", "Feruchemik" i "Hemalurgik". Twinborn i think is "podwójny" which means "double", and names of each Twinborn are rather directly translated. Names of different types of allomancers and feruchemists are quite direct. "Coinshot" is "Monetostrzelny" which is exactly the same, Tineye is the same - "Cynooki" and others are even easier to translate directly. I think we don't have a word for Bendalloy so it's just "stop bizmutowy" which means "bismuth's alloy" (and that's correct as bendalloy is 50% bismuth). The biggest troubles are in Warbreaker (which was translated by a different person) - it has 2 different titles depending on the edition of the book. At first it was "Siewca Wojny" which means "a person who starts wars" but the newer edition later changed it into "Rozjemca" which means "a person who unites/ends conflicts" (which I have to say, change of titles fits to Warbreaker/Vasher so well, that's hilarious). Awakening is directly translated into "Przebudzenie". Returned (literal translation "Powracający") names are hard to translate and are all over the place, but still at least half of the name is there. Lightsong is "Dar Pieśni" which means "song's gift". Nightblood was at first translated into "Szpon Nocy" which means "night's claw" later changed into "Krew Nocy" which means "night's blood". Blushweaver is translated into "Poranna Rosa" which means "morning dew". Calmseer is "Kojąca Mądrością" which means "calming with wisdom". Allmother is “Wielka Matka” which means “grand/great mother” (not grandmother). SP3 spoilers:
  7. Did she do that or was she just telling the story? I'm not sure myself. At this point she was Radiant. I think she just used her illumination's power to create dozens of versions of herself just in case that "spren" tried to attack her - it would be confused and wouldn't know who to attack, giving Shallan a tactical advantage in fight.
  8. @Firesong has already posted a WoB explaining that. It's either pure coincidence or Fortune.
  9. That's not possible. To become a CS you need a massive influx of investiture, much more than a Radiant has. This investiture replaces every bit of the soul and anchors it. Radiant will feel the pull and some connection isn't enough, you need to bathe the soul with investiture, nothing like this could have happened to Tien. He wasn't any near source of investiture. He wouldn't become a CS. Mistborn and SH spoilers: Spiritweb never dies. It stays in SR timelessly. Daliner could simply reach out to it and bring real Tien's spiritweb. This doesn't require Tien actually living. The Beyond isn't SR, we don't know if it even exists. It's more like a religious concept that was based on real phenomena - cognitive aspects stretching into something after death. We will never know if there is something in the Beyond or if it even exists. A spirit web however stays in the Spiritual Realm. It's there, as SR is timeless and will remain there like a fossil. A connection isn't enough. The soul needs to be massively invested. Nahel Bond doesn't invest that much, it isn't a source of invesiture. It's a connection. It won't help. She swore 2 Ideals (I will be free is her second) and was invested by the Stormfather who allowed her to ride with the storm. That's why she stayed for so long. Before that SF told her she will stay for minutes, not hours SH spoiler
  10. I would totally give you a rep point but this is all I see for the last few days: This is my problem every time a new book comes out. There are so many new cool threads, new awesome theories, so many new interesting observations and engaging discussions, new people are coming to the forum to share their reactions and insights about those books and I really want to give them all a rep as I feel they all deserve that. I can't, it takes me several days to give them all a rep, if I even still remember about them. And that's on top of my regular daily upvoting activity. I would be very grateful if our sleepless moderators address this issue in any way.
  11. Straff Venture Hrathen Taravangian Syl I disagree with you calling them good or evil. I don't think there are many truly evil characters in Cosmere, just a handful of them. Cosmere antagonists are really complicated and can't be called just evil. Edit: this should be in Cosmere-forum section.
  12. Teft was still affected by suppressor fabrial and had to be healed by Lift every few hours to stay awake. Because he faced Moash he was able to get closer to 4th Ideal, but he still didn't say the words. And he didn't summon her as a Shardblade, not physically. It was a titanic effort for them to do. There are around 200 Radiants as of the end of RoW. Only 2 of them are confirmed to be of 4th Ideal, 1 other is dead but was really close to it. That's 1%. Not a lot right now. If it is so easy why it's so low? If Kal was an outlier then other Windrunners would reach the 4th ideal before him. None did despite having a full year. If his struggle was so unusual, why didn't others reach it first if they had it so easy? Just because someone can swear all oaths at once, doesn't mean most will be like that.
  13. They will. Our laws of physics still apply. Enough investiture in one place will create a black hole - enough energy put into a god metal will break it down to liquid, even if investiture resists it. Investiture is energy, you just need to put more energy into it than it has. It's simple. Because that wasn't tungsten. Why? Will they disappear or something? It’s the time limit on Odium led war, not Fused, they will stay. He can't take them back, did you forget?
  14. So? This proves my point as we clearly know god metals have both liquid and gaseous form. We only need to change it from one to the other - for this you just need energy. And because matter=energy=investiture it doesn't matter that god metals are pure investiture, with sufficient energy you will break it down and liquify it. Tungsten boils at 5555 degrees C. It happens.
  15. Oh wow that looks epic, everything is there - even Brandon writing books is there! Chasmfiend looks so cool. I will support it for sure.
  16. It's the best comparison we have and it releases energy from the electromagnetic spectrum. Gamma rays are part of it. There will be radiation. What other "energy'' do you want it to release? By definition it will produce radiation (light is radiation) and based on annihilation of matter-antimatter it will produce ionizing radiation too. Too much energy is being released from Axi. And invested matter does change states based on heat - Harmonium clearly shows signs of it. It became more pliable, soft and stretchable, clearly dividing itself into two parts, and stopped reacting to air as violently. I see no reason to believe that a god metal couldn't be melted if provided enough heat. It's still a physical matter, behaves like that and has properties like every other physical matter has. It even glows when heated. Saying that Harmonium can't melt isn't based on facts - they only heated it to around 3000 "degrees", tungsten melts at 3422°C (6191.6°F). They simply might not have the equipment needed to melt it.
  17. Ever heard of the Lucky Dragon? And yes, it was an issue. There were studies about radiation contamination across the US caused by testing bombs and there was a noticeable effect, and even link to thyroid cancer (with some receiving doses of up to 4 Gy) - up to 28000 people claimed compensation from the state. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nevada_Test_Site#Cancer_and_test_site and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downwinders Important parts: But this is about testing, we're not talking about testing in remote localisation anymore, we're talking about real bombs detonated near population centers. Radiation fallout is real and causes a significant death toll, ARP and increases cancer risk. Depending on the wind it can spread over a very large area. With surface blast (which we are talking about here) radiation is the main killer and can cause hundreds of thousands of casualties. Yes, electron-antielectron annihilation produces gamma rays, proton-antiproton produces whole variety of particles, including electrons or even fast neutrons - which is still radiation. That's a short answer which I do understand, but reality is far more complicated, which I don't understand: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annihilation
  18. A spark is smaller. But no government. Land is now radioactive wasteland. That's not a country, that ruins of a country. Yes. I'm disappointed in you now Did I mention crazy people and extremists? An arrow or spear or sword kills you faster than you can reach in your pocket, faster than you can transfer light from one gem to another. You would be dead before you would be able to do something.
  19. Self-ignition, sparks, burning debris... They aren't underground, they are in cracks in the ground. So that's no US? Without a government there is no country. And "several million" out of 330 mil isn't that much. That's like 99% of casualties. And you will say no and they will bomb you before you could react. Or first imprison you before you could reach the nuke, steal everything and they blow you up. There are hundreds of ways to do that.
  20. It is shattered, there is no Adonalsium investiture, but all 16 Shards hold investiture, that used to be of Adonalsium, all across Cosmere. Every Shard is invested slightly on Roshar and that's what I was talking about. No idea, she regenerates it over time. I wouldn't be surprised if this came from the UTol planet, as it's visible through the Shroud which for me screams "investiture". It could invest her more and more over time. Or maybe she was consuming the Shroud over time. No idea really.
  21. Teft didn't swear 4th Ideal, he was close, like Kaladin but didn't say the words. He could have been stuck on it for years if not for his death. He's not an example. Ultimately we have only one data point, which is Kaladin, and we know nothing more about struggles of others like Jasnah. Everything we say is equally as likely and until we get more data we won’t know how hard it is.
