  1. Since RoW I've imagined A-Copper works like a noise-canceling headphones - it detects the waves of investiture flowing through the area and creates a wave opposite to that one detected, canceling it out. But it isn't perfect cancellation, it just weakens waves so much that they can't be detected and used by anyone who isn't strong enough - that's why Vin could detect weak pulses from pierced copperclouds, that's why bronze savants or Elend can pierce it. Absorbing the pulses just like time bubbles do works for me too.
  2. This is another ability that works best with other invested arts. Yes, creation of unkeyed and unsealed medallions is nice, but there are other stuff you can do with Identity. Identity is related to your spiritual ideal of self (I'm pretty sure there was a WoB on that), and tapping/storing identity will affect your healing: Blanking your Identity would make it easier for you to access other Feruchemist metalminds: Also being Identityless makes you more susceptible to influence of investiture and invested arts. The question I have is does aluminum actually store your Identity or only blanks it? If it stores, you can tap it, if it blanks, you can't tap it, you have no Identity as long as you "storing", but the aluminum has no Feruchemical charge in it, nothing to tap it back. So you wouldn't be able to tap someone else's Identity. There are WoBs that suggest you can tap Identity, but because of how secretive Brandon is about this part of Feruchemy, he might simply not want to reveal how F-aluminum really works, until he writes it (he RAFO most questions about it after all). But it makes sense that Aluminum won't hold any invested charge, it's a special metal, it can't be Forged, it can't be Soulcasted, it can't hold Breaths - so it doesn't make sense that it would somehow be able to hold Feruchemical charge. That's why I think F-aluminum blanks your Identity but doesn't store it.
  3. It's impossible to Awaken a Shardblade because it is already considered to be Awakened by the system. Investiture resists investiture and you can't put more Breaths into something so invested like a Shardblade. That's not possible for several reasons. First Honorblades are as invested as Shardblades or even more, you can't Awaken them. Second is that Taln's blade was with him on Braize for 4500 years, he returned with it and was using it in Kholinar during WoK epilogue, but later was switched by some unknown people. The timeline of this switch doesn't match up with the time of Nightblood's creation - the events of Warbreaker happen generations before WoK, and Nightblood was created 300 years before the Warbreaker. That's simply impossible. Nightblood was made out of steel, to match Returned size - it was explained in Warbreaker. We know the description of Taln's Honorblade, WoK epilogue: It doesn't match Nightblood's description. I think Shins already have Taln's blade, they were the one that switched it, they could do it with their Honorblades, as they planned to retrieve Jezrien's blade from Szeth if he were to die using other Honorblades (probably the one granting Elsecalling). There was a WoB or a quote on how they would retrieve Szeth's Honorblade, but I can't find it. Because Honorblades are much more dangerous than regular Shardblades and they grant Surges without limitations. Shins most likely took it as they might think they have duty to guard all Honorblades and thus they most likely swapped Taln's blade to the inferior one. Heralds can use Honorblades to the extent even beyond that we've seen Szeth did. In WoK it was Taln's blade. It was his own Honorblade, and Kalak in Prelude noticed Taln's blade was the only one missing. Taln's blade was trapped on Braize with him for 4500 years, during the time Nightblood was created. But Nightblood was modeled after Honorblades.
  4. Probably not, because that sounds too much like the Royal Locks and what Returned can do. Awakeners aren't Cognitive Shadows.
  5. Stormfather is already Honor's Cognitive Shadow and also Honor's Splinter. I think this might be very tricky, because for Splinters like that the distinction between being a Vessel or being just raw power of a Shard would be very thin. Can spren even Ascend? We don't know. I think it's more likely that a Spren would rejoin the rest of the power, from which it was Splintered, and become a whole with a Shard, be they wouldn't become a Vessel. But at this point nothing it is hard to say. If somehow Stormfather Ascend to Honor and became its Vessel, Dalinar would become more like a Herald then a Radiant. But if Stormfather became Honor without becoming its Vessel, then Dalinar would have a very easy time to Ascend to Vesselless Honor. P.S. Every Shard has a Connection to PR. Mistborn spoilers:
  6. I'm not sure that Ture Spren were ever bonded to Singers - we know that they refused to grant Surges to Singers, which would make more sense if they weren't bonded. But as seen by Syl in WoR, spren can deny their knight access to Surges, so this might be what had happened. However Leshwi claimed, and Blended confirmed, to have done something terrible to True Spren, a betrayal that made Spren turn away from them towards humans. What was it we don't know yet. This theory has a merit, I think it would make more sense if Odium fused Singers with the spren they were bonded with, making them into literal Fused. It would also be in line with Odium wanting to make Dalinar into Fused, as he is bonded with the Stormfather. However if that was done to True Spren, this betrayal would certainly be on par with Recreance, which is something Blended said it didn't happen, RoW ch 87:
  7. Welcome. There aren't any certain answers to those questions. I will present to you what I personally think those things do. Starting with F-nicrosil, it doesn't store raw investiture per se, but the innate investiture, part of your soul that gives you invested arts, powers like Allomancy. This is mostly confirmed by Brandon and WoBs at this point. I think it works just like all other metalminds - you store your Allomancy for an hour, you can tap it for an hour later and become 2x stronger with your powers - but that's unconfirmed. In Medallions however F-nicrosil is more restrictive and works like a coppermind - it's all or nothing. WoBs: In the case of nicrosil spike in Hemalurgy, this is different. H-nicrosil doesn't steal powers, but just pure, raw investiture, a part of their soul. We don't really know how it works, TLM spoilers: By spiking yourself with lots of raw investiture in a nicrosil spike, you might get effects similar to what Breaths are giving you - some increased life sense, color aura and passive effects like that, probably on a lower scale. You will increase the investiture levels of your soul, and that have some Cosmere-wide effects similar to Breaths. But this is still unconfirmed, mostly speculation. WoBs: Dawnshard/RoW spoiler WoB:
  8. That's about medallions which we know they work differently than normal F-nicrosil. I think F-nicrosil works just like other metalminds, not like a Coppermind - you store some power for an hour, then you tap it for an hour and you're 2x stronger - it would work well with Metallic Arts, allowing you to become like TLR if you tap with diminishing returns. That's where the real power of F-nicrosil is - you might be able to tap so much of it that you would have the strength of Vin Ascending for just a fraction of a second. I don't really get what you mean by "ability to use your magic replenishes over time". No Feruchemy "replenishes overnight" or something like that - you stop storing, you have 100% of your attribute. The only different attribute are memories, which you permanently store (Identity is also very likely to work like that). Assuming F-nicrosil works just like all other attributes, you stop storing, you have your powers as normally. You tap them, you have their strength increased - even if you store them you most likely can't store 100% of their power, so you would still be able to use some weak powers, like weak steelpushes etc. The other use of F-nicrosil is to just make medallions, you don't need to have any other power, just a group of Metalborn. That's very powerful as you can give yourself all other powers by medallions (which probably can't be stored by your own power as those powers are locked in medallion, not in you), or just make an army of Metalborn. Unfortunately, the secrets I possess are granted only to members of Zincpremacy. You would have to renounce your allegiance to the F-tin cult and stop being so zincless But in all seriousness, I think F-nicrosil works like all other metals. It makes its use so much simpler and more powerful. No secret knowledge from me, I don't have such Connections Oh, that's a good use of pure F-nicrosil. That would certainly work. Just by storing F-nicrosil and later tapping lots of it, you can temporarily become so invested that you would just ignore all attempts of emotional Allomancy on you, or other forms of investiture acting on you. Small Warbreaker spoiler WoB:
  9. The very WoB you quoted confirms that. If you're not convinced, Aviar’s bond is Nahel Bond, so they work in the same way as Spren and Radiants. What you're stealing from Radians is their Connection to their Spren, which Spren can still break, that's why you need to steal the power form the Spren. Which metal would it be is hard to say - Spren have some limited access to Surges (we saw Syl using Adhesion in WoK), you probably need to use Atium to steal powers just like with Allomancy (despite that Allomancy is granted via Connection to Preservation, you're stealing powers as those powers are written into your sDNA). Atium is certainly the safest to use. It's hard to spike a spren because you need to go into CR.
  10. We don't really know how this works. Yes, generally spren who are searching for their Knight will travel in PR and lose their cognitive functions - but this is how Syl did it alone. There are other spren that are doing similar things but differently. For example Cryptics are sending a committee of spren to accompany their soon to be bonded comrade, watch the potential candidates together and even evaluate and decide on their worthiness as a collective group - they are doing this from CR, as Shallan could see in WoK. Inkspren behaved similarly, a group of them were present when Ivory was testing Jasnah in WoR prologue. We even see this behavior in Honorspren as Phendorana accompanied fellow Honorspren to meet Kaladin's squires while being fully Cognitive at that time (OB ch 37). For me this means that Highspren just gather in CR, watch Skybreakers and their potential squires, judge them, and if they find them worthy of bonding, they form a bond and get pulled into PR while already being anchored to their Radiant - this might lessen the effect that transitioning to PR has on their mind. They are not doing this from PR, but CR, just like Cryptics or Inkspren did it. Another factor can be that spren don't immediately lose their mind after their Radiant dies - Yunfah in RoW had been hanging around for months without a bond and was still fine. Skybreakers might act similarly - they have a pool of squires ready for their Highspren for when one of the Skybreakers dies, a Highspren can choose someone new to bond almost immediately, without losing their mind in PR. And we saw 2 Skybreaker squires dead in Edgedancer novella, I would guess they at least attracted their spren at that point, because they gained Nale's attention. That's not the whole thing. This is no different from Windrunners or other orders. There is more Radiant candidates than spren, thus there are more squires than spren ready to bond. The job of a squire is to attract a spren, this can be done before the 2nd Ideal, but it is spren who decides who's worthy of bonding (Honorspren Yunfah narrowed down his candidats to 5 squires). Szeth did it, his Highspren was already watching him before he swore the 2nd ideal, and Nale originally thought that Szeth might be able to skip straight into the 3rd Ideal. OB ch 90&92: Edit: True is that it was said that they will bond a spren after swearing the 2nd Ideal, and this will bring them into the 3rd Ideal - this might be simply because of their highly hierarchical approach and traditions that lasted through Recreance. I think that might be problematic for Highspren - they have a proto-bond, which is a bond, and for them to bond with another Radiant, they would have to break it. And we know what happens to spren with broken bonds. Their behavior and different approach to treating their knights might be explained simply by having a different culture, and as Honorspren showed us, they can simply respect Heralds enough to value their opinion and revere them - for Highspren this would be overly emphasized as Nale became the embodiment of law, not just because of his 5th Ideal, but because of his history of respect he had to the law. Plus, their admiration for hierarchy would play a role of them allowing Nale to become the leading figure of Skybreakers, just like in Honorspren, even Syl mentioned that Honorspren are searching for a leading figure and they will obey Kal's orders, just like soldiers will obey orders of their commanding officer - Yunfah's case. RoW ch 10: Because of that I think Highspren simply radicalized over millennia, they weren't dragged by their proto-bond to Nale, but rather due to their admiration and respect to Nale as the Herald of Justice, they slowly shifted in their beliefs to be willing to side with Singers and Odium - which isn't an isolated example. Many other spren are willing to do that as well, most notably Lightspren, Inkspren (agreeing that Singers are the rightful rulers of Roshar just like Nale argued), Ashspren and even some Honorspren are talking about it, Highspren being the first to side with Singers and Odium isn't out of ordinary considering what every spren thinks of Humans after Recreance. Disagree, just as Cryptics are different, Highspren are different as well. Their culture is simply unique, and thus their treatment of their Radiants is also different. While I agree this certainly is a factor to some degree, I think it mostly boils down to how difficult it is for Radiants to reach 5th Ideal, esspecially Skybreakers who have to became the embodyment of law. The 5th Ideal happened under Nale's command in the past, but even reaching 4th Ideal takes decades of work, most would be stuck on 3rd Ideal. OB ch 90: Overall this is an interesting theory. I don't agree with it, but we don't know for certain what's happening with Highspren yet. For me it just seems natural that they simply have a different culture and a different approach to the bond, resulting in what we see. We saw behaviors like this among other orders and true spren, so I don't think Highspren behavior is that outstanding.
  11. I think it's the blade that grants the powers so you can't steal that from it, but you can steal a Honorblade from a person by stealing his connection to it. You can steal dead Shardblades this way, I see no reasons why you can't steal Honorblades as well.
  12. You're spiking Radiant for his Connection to spren, not power, and spren for his power that he grants Radiant, not raw investiture. It would be extremely painful for a Radiant, but he would most likely gain the ability to use Surges without Spren supervision (just like Honorblades), without necessity to progress Oaths and also without Shards. However I still think that such action would break their bond and thus Radiant would be left without necessary Connection - he won't be able to use powers anyway.
  13. Certainly black holes can not only exist in Cosmere, but also influence time in CR (WoB) and can be even created by invested arts (WoB). But would sticking Nightblood into a black hole destroy Nightblood - well, that's an interesting question, I would guess that’s possible, but there are easier ways to do so (give it to a Bondsmith - WoB). Although would it destroy Nightblood, or would Nigthblood destroy the black hole? Nightblood consumes everything, just like a black hole does. At one point Brandon called pure investiture, like Atium or Nightblood, a mini black hole (WoB), so throwing Nightblood into a black hole might work just like a black hole merger (what would gravitational waves released in such event do to a planet/star system closeby?) Physics in Cosmere works almost in the same way as in our Universe, but with one addition - investiture is another form of matter andenergy. Therefore a supernova is just as deadly as it is here, and adding investiture to a star will affect it just like adding mass to it. Yes, it can take out a planet, unless a Shard intervenes and protects a planet from it, which is easily within Shard's capabilities. The Taldain system has a blue(-white) supergiant star, which lives for around 10 million years (which is very, very short) and can explode as supernova while being a blue supergiant (without becoming a red supergiant), therefore there is at least one candidate for a supernova in the near future of Cosmere, but Autonomy would most likely prevent it from happening, she is already keeping the system stable. I wonder, what would happen to the system if Autonomy were to get Splintered? I personally always love the idea of weaponization of supernovae in sci-fi. What's better than a giant star exploding, outshining the entire galaxy? Shards can just ignore things worse than this, they exists in SR, where time and space are irrelevant: True, it can be deadly to some nearby star systems (Cosmere is a star cluster, stars are much closer together than where Sun is), but Scadrial's star isn't massive enough, it's a sun-like star, it would have to be around 10 times more massive to go supernova - but a Shard can likely invest a star to make it more massive. However Scadiral's sun wasn't created by P&R so there might be some limitations to what Ruin can do with it (for example he can't just create a bunch of iron in a star's core). Realistically it would take a lot of time to make star go supernova. Realistically it would take a very long time to make a star go supernova, I doubt Ruin would want to wait that long. Plus I think that Ruin wouldn't do that - this is more like a mindless destruction, not a natural decay and entropy that Ruin represents. Black holes already work like this in Cosmere - Investiture is the same as matter and energy. But black holes don't suck, things are falling into them, if there is any investiture near a black hole it will fall into it, just like matter or light will here. Everything that is some distance away from a black hole will be fine. Black holes don't suck, they are just massive gravity wells.
  14. Interesting but I find this unlikely. I think this was about Hoid giving Kelsier's copper medallion to Wax, as Kel didn't want this information to get out. Hoid getting one of them and giving it to Wax, without getting caught, fits this WoB. Moreover draining the Bands didn't happen during the events of BoM - the Bands were given to Kandra and the book ended almost at the same moment, there was not enough time for Hoid to somehow drain the Bands within the timeline of the book (not to mention that he was at New Seran and even he might have troubles to get to Elendel on time).
  15. I'm talking about the future of Cosmere, Era 4 - they have spaceships with FTL, they don't need satellites for that. I'm not talking about literal rods from god, but orbital bombardment in general. Precision won't be a problem, yield as well as you can adjust the size of projectile based on your needs. If they can make FTL, they can easily make precise kinetic orbital projectiles and you have all different invested arts to help you with that. Your Chasmfiends army is vaporized in an instant. A classical, medieval form of waging wars is obsolete when we're talking about modern, combined arms warfare, not to mention the future one. Chasmfiends are just huge, walking targets for artillery or air force to practice on - and artillery is already on Scadrial in Era 2.
  16. Then you're looking at what Ishar is doing, which didn't end well for spren. They can't manifest a physical body themselves, they need something like a will of a Shard to do that - that's why Returned have their bodies (Endowment stampled them back into it), that's why Heralds have them (Oathpact is involved). But they can't just make one themselves - Fused had to possess a body, Kelsier too, they can't just make it. Cognitive Shadow's Connection to PR is broken when they die and they need something else to recreate that, Shards do that for them, but they can't do it on their own. They would have to have a looot of Investiture to recreate/manifest their physical body, if they're like Kelsier, but they don't have their original body around - so much that they simply can't do it just like that (and they would still need to Connect themselves to PR and that's even harder, it probably won't just happen with enough Investiture, they need Bondsmithing).
  17. Solid like a Shardblade or solid like a physical body? A Shardblade might be possible (if they don't have a physical body already), because CS (Kelsier) can form a Nahel Bond like a spren, but a body, well it depends - Heralds have it, Returned have it, others too. Kelsier doesn't because his Connection to PR is broken, he can't manifest his body there. If Kelsier bonds somebody, he will gain some Connection to PR, and this might allow him to manifest as a Shardblade, just like spren on Roshar - at least that's my opinion.
  18. We know there are spaceships so that settles any future conflict - orbital bombardment. Chasmfiend army is useless when rods from god are falling at you at Mach-10 or more. Or simply deorbit small asteroids with the Surge of Gravitation to make them strike any place on an enemy planet. No need for any fancy weapon, just plain old rocks falling from the sky. Taldain is still the most advanced planet in Cosmere, but Scadrial is closing in, that's why Autonomy wanted to subjugate or destroy it. We know from SotD and Tress that spaceships are present in the space era of Cosmere.
  19. I don't think you're looking at F-bronze in the right way. First let's talk about storing. I think when you store wakefulness in your sleep, you will wake up like you haven't slept at all, or at least you won't get full benefits from it. That makes storing very inconvenient as you have to sacrifice several nights to later not sleep for several days - which makes sense, that's how Feruchemy works. Secondly you sleep on average around 6-8 hours per day, that means you have to store wakefulness for 3-4 nights, to be able to tap it just for 1 whole day. But storing wakefulness actually makes you fall in a coma-like state, it forces you to sleep longer than normally, which makes it even worse if you don't have time to waste half a day on sleeping - you don't have control over it. That's not great, it's not the worst attribute to store, but it isn't so easy to store that you would have a ton of it - Sazed in WoA proves it. But you can store wakefulness from caffeine, which is nice, but it would feel different than wakefulness from sleeping. Now the benefits. You get full benefits of a good night's sleep. You are not only aware but also tireless (as long as you have food and water), energetic, fully alert, with fast reflexes and your mind working in the best and quickest state. Imagine staying awake for a week straight, not getting tired from the lack of sleep with your mind being clear and focused. That's quite nice. You can fully concentrate on your task and your mind will always be at peak performance, thinking fast and clearly, not making stupid mistakes because you haven't slept for a while. Compared to the tired state, F-bronze gives you small benefits of several other metalminds, like F-zinc, F-pewter, F-steel, F-tin or even F-copper or F-gold. Wakefulness simply enhances every attribute and function of your body - that's very handy. Plus if you suffer sleepless nights, being able to immediately fall asleep is very, very nice. I also wonder if F-bronze works like F-copper. I think it's quite likely, because how would it work if you tap it with diminishing returns? What does it mean to tap 300% of wakefulness? If that's possible, being hyper-awake would be very interesting and quite powerful in my opinion.
  20. I've got this idea for a while now: Spike Dalinar and take his Connection to the Stormfather. Spike the Stormfather and take his power of Bondsmithing. Use Bondsmithing to steal powers from other Invested individuals - you can start by stealing spren bonds of all orders (I wonder if you might be able to directly steal powers from spren, like Hemalurgy can), then Metallic Arts, Elantrians and so on. Once you are a Bondsmith you can take almost everything (probably no Breaths but maybe a Divine Breath). Use Bondsmithing to manipulate your Connection whenever it's necessary to allow you to worldhop. You can't Soulcast into Atium with the amount of investiture you have. I think so, it's stamping that makes them work as an invested art. You don't have that problem on Scadrial. Being a Mistborn or even a Fullborn doesn't prevent you from Worldhopping. Kelsier can't because right now he is made out of Preservation's investiture, but you don't have that problem. You have however that problem once you bond a spren - your spren can't leave Roshar, as they are just like Kelsier. You might make spren worldhop with you by giving them F-duralumin medallion (which you can make) filled with blanked connection or connection to different planets or something like that. But you don't have that problem unless you become a Cognitive Shadow.
  21. Cosmere spoilers:
  22. Yes, if you have investiture - Lerasium does it, Forgery does it, Hemalurgy does it etc. WoB:
  23. Yes, Shards can create it, but god metals is investiture from SR leaking naturally into the world, so you will find some pocket where god metal is created. You technically could Soulcast something into a god metal, but that would require ridiculous amounts of investiture, so large that even Dalinar with his perpendicularity can't deliver it. This method isn't really practical, humans generally have no means of creating god metals as that requires too much investiture. Another technicality - Nightblood can be considered a god metal by now (however it is still a steel sword, definitions kind of gets muddy here), so another way would be to invest something to ridiculous amounts, but again, that requires too much investiture, unavailable for regular people. I don't get your 2nd point - Harmonium placed together in large quantities will generate a perpendicularity, but that's not creation of Harmonium - Harmonium is created naturally in the South - investiture leaks into Scadrial and forms as Harmonium, just like it was with Atium during Era 1. Also we don't know from where Raysium came from, we know it's rare and really difficult to get. No, the Song of Prayer won't solidify Voidlight.
  24. No, it doesn't work like that. In most cases it's how much your body can handle that determines how much you can store and this differs depending on attributes. Storing 99.9999999% of a certain attribute isn't that helpful, because taping it back won't be so different from tapping 99% for example - you can't become 1000 times lighter and then tap it to be 1000 times heavier, that's not how Feruchemy works. You can become 80% lighter and then become 180% heavier when taping. When approaching the limit of storing, there isn't much difference between for example 80% or 81% of an attribute. Feruchemy works more with percentages, and there is only so much weight that you can store - if there were no low limits for storing, you still would be able to store only 100% of your weight and tap it to get 200% - you can't store more than that, you can't store faster. You store an attribute per some period of time, and that time is far more impactful than the percentage of your attribute you store.
  25. The WoB you've mentioned: I don't think the time dilation would be that massive, as this would make continuity and storytelling very difficult to be consistent. Something on a smaller scale would make sense. You need a looooot of mass to make time dilation noticeable on that scale. We've already seen characters from Sel and Elantris book in other books, most notably Stormlight and TLM, it would be hard to make this work with massive time dilation. Also Reod wasn't a big deal as most of the worldhoppers weren't aware of it - if hundreds of thousands of years had passed outside of Sel then they should all know about Reod by this time. Also Brandon still didn't work up the timeline of Cosmere and where the Elantris series takes place. Elantris 2 takes place around 15 years after 1, and 3 hundreds years later.
