  1. Then Full Cosmere spoilers (Tress included):
  2. What other Cosmere books have you read besides Warbreaker?
  3. It's still a maybe. But air is an object too - it has a mass, there are air particles. Too fast and the bubble might pop. It's too speculative. No. It was said in books. You wouldn't. You can't. No idea. Most likely half of it is below your feet.
  4. That's not what the quote said. His life sense was strong but not perfect. He could sense grass because he has enough Breaths but not lichen. This means that he wasn't at 1000 Breaths at that point, which would be easily explainable if he simply Awakened something off-screen earlier. A coat to protect him for example? A rope? Something else that allowed him to get on the top of the palace, like a banner? Or maybe he hid some of his Breaths? That's the simplest explanation, which makes perfect sense with what we know about life sense (pun intended). The general rule of Heightenings, explained also in the book somewhere, is that each Breath makes you a bit closer to that perfect state, but remains perfect once it reaches a certain level. People with 20000 Breaths aren't more ageless then those of 5th Heightening. 600 Breaths doesn't make your hearing better than 200 Breaths. It's already perfect since 200 Breaths. The word perfect means it's the most you can get from it, it can't get any better. Life sense is perfect once you have 1000 Breaths, any more of them won't change or add anything. That's not how Heightenings works. Vivenna had 600 Breaths, Lightsong was inside the court walls, separated from all animals. Vasher mentioned it once. Only once he said he can sense grass. Vivenna mentioned it as well in the Epilogue, with 200 Breaths - even with 200 Breaths you can sense strong animal and plant life - not grass but why not a giant tree or a tiger? Those are the only 2 examples of sensing something other than people I've found (there are ~140 results for the word "sense").
  5. I've searched for more WoBs and it seems that moving time bubbles attached only to you are a bigger headache than we think. It's not just about mass, but also about size, momentum and about objects that are cutting in and out of the bubble - too much of those and the bubble might pop. The cognitive perception of yours and other objects about "being still" plays a role here: It means that while it's possible to anchor a bubble to yourself, the more objects are going in and out of the bubble, the faster they are, the more likely they will mess up with your bubble because of their perception of stillness. Additionally, in combination with this WoB, it seems like a time bubble's barrier can absorb only a limited amount of energy, after which it would pop. Running with a time bubble could be impossible, because of the sheer number of objects going in and out of it - unless you can make it as small as your body, but for that you need years of practice with tons of bendalloy, which is one of the most expensive Allomantic metals.
  6. Burning spikes is very problematic. It's an excruciating process that would knock you unconscious, plus a more recent WoB states that burning a spike won't give you powers/soul pieces that were in it. This method won't work.
  7. There is no canon reason for that. However they have a living cavalry, ch 4: The reason for that might be simply that just like in medieval Europe, the position of a cavalryman was reserved only for the richest, because of its prestige. It's possible that while the Lifeless are just a throwaway infantry, the cavalrymen are composed only of living people because they are the ones that would gain all the glory and respect for winning a battle. They might be leaders and commanders of the Lifeless army. Maybe it's because of the terrain, Hallandren is covered by jungles while Idris by mountains, cavalry in such terrain isn't always the best choice, thus infantry is better. Commanding a living unit of cavalrymen is much better than Lifeless, as they can better judge the terrain and the enemy, thus they won't waste man charging at lines of pikes. However I think the reason is different - the cavalry aren't needed because the Lifeless already fill this role. Think of it - the role of cavalry is to be a mobile, fast shock unit that will strike with force and overwhelm the enemy in a crucial moment. Well, Lifeless are a mobile, fast and tireless force, that can march all day and night without any logistics, that will fearlessly strike any position without any care for their own losses, overwhelming them with sheer shock value. The Manywar very likely proved that cavalry is simply obsolete on an open battlefield as Lifeless are a much cheaper, easier to maintain force that can replace them even efficiently. Why waste Breaths and alcohol to Awaken a horse, when you can Awaken 2 soldiers who both will fight and thus double the size of your army? Moreover living cavalry is useless against Lifeless, as cavalry relies on the fact that your opponent will collapse, break apart their formation and scatter - Lifeless won't do that. Using even Lifeless cavalry against Lifeless army is just a waste of Breaths, as cavalry would be simply trapped in front of or in between solid lines of Lifeless. Horses aren't tanks, they won't shove people apart like you see that in movies or games. They need momentum. Cavalry that stops is a dead cavalry.
  8. No. Brandon doesn't want to tell us anything about those names. Here are some WoBs where he give us "something" (more on Vax, one thing on Senna):
  9. No idea. I think it's likely that a Shardblade might just pop the bubble. It's so invested that it might act like a needle pointing through a balloon, if you try to move a part of the blade outside of the bubble.
  10. No, A-bronze detects kinetic investiture, it would detect Sand Masters and their ribbons of active sand, but not the White Sand laying static on the desert.
  11. Susebron already walked through the city to Awaken Kalad's Phantoms, Susebron might want to become a more visible and active ruler as he doesn't like being locked inside. Plus this isn't what I'm talking about. Susebron is fascinated by mountains and wants to visit Idris to see Siri's home. I find it very likely that one day they will both travel to Idris, maybe very soon to discuss the recent rebellion, and that will be the time for Idrian to see and meet the God-King, to realize he isn't that bad. I thought more about this topic and now I think that Idris will be fine in the future even if they remain strongly attached to their religion and culture. Why? Because of their natural resources - Idris has the only known copper mines in the world, and copper is the backbone of modern technology. Another reason is that trade passages through Idris are the only reliable way to trade with the northern countries - which strongly excludes that in the future this won't be important or they would find another way to trade with them, like by the sea (as if that was a possibility they would do that already). In Warbreaker Idris already had friendly relations with northern countries, they were willing to defend them against Hallandren's aggression. That's one side of their border being already secured. Now Susebron and Siri rule over Hallandren, the plot to start another Manywar was foiled, and even before this, the idea of war with Idris was very unpopular in Hallandren - because trading with northern countries provides enormous income to Hallandren and cutting this off could lead to full economic collapse. Moreover Hallandren got what they wanted - the legitimacy of their monarchy is confirmed and secured because of Siri. This grants Idris the security from every side - Idris borders are secure for now. Because of Siri and Susebron, the relations between Idris and Hallandren will get warmer, maybe not outright friendly, but definitely warmer and better. This means that Idris can establish beneficial trade deals with their neighbors which would further improve their economic status and security. If in the future, one of the neighboring countries decided to be more aggressive, then Idris would have an easy time to get military support from their trade partners as they would risk losing their valuable trading agreements and their access to goods like copper or other minerals. Just like when Hallandren wanted to attack and others stood in Idris' defense, the same would happen in the future with any potential aggression. Hallandren would definitely stand with Idris because they are so dependent on those trade routes through mountains. Idris can thus use their trading routes and resources as the bargaining chip not only to stay alive, but to prosper, grow and make friends even with heretics of T'Telir without changing their religious beliefs or their opinion about Awakening. They can invent new technologies on their own or just trade them - even if Awakened technology would be prohibited. Once electricity is invented, Idris can become the richest country in the whole world, because of their copper mines. Moreover, let's not underestimate the defensive value of mountains. Idris can easily turn their entire nation into one, giant superfortress, that would just scare off any potential aggression for good. I think right now Idris has everything they need to secure their position for a very long time. Because they are the only known place on Nalthis where copper could be mined, once electricity is invented, they could become economical power as everybody on Nalthis will be dependent on Idris.
  12. I think they are charged with static investiture, as this investiture comes from the sun, thus you wouldn't be able to sense them. It isn't part of their soul. Warbreaker Ars Arcanum, and somewhere in the book it was generally explained. With every Breath you improve Breaths' "static abilities" like color recognition or life sense until you reach a specific Heightening where you have a perfect version of it. From that moment forward this ability will not improve. You get the perfect life sense at the 4th Heightening - 1000 Breaths. Now I have to ask you for a source on this one.
  13. It's not about getting sloppier, it's about becoming so obsessed with your task that you can't see that your way of doing it is just a bad idea and can result in unforeseeable consequences not only for you, but for unrelated others as well. You might miss an easier or better solution to your task when you're maniacal. Kind of like Wax in TLM was so blinded by the idea that he needed to get to the top of the Tower by killing every Set member, that he didn't realize that the very last group of guards were just some poor guys that didn't not want to be there at all. Wayne quickly noticed that and stepped in to save their lives.
  14. I disagree. Susebron is a very nice person, the total opposite of what Idrians believe to be the truth. It would take just a single visit for Idrians to realize how biased and wrongly fearful they are of Hallandren, and they would see that something is wrong with their perception of Hallandren. That's a start. Then add to it the knowledge that Siri is basically the second most important person in Hallandren and would drive the change of their mind. It would still take many years but the initial spark would be shocking "they aren't that bad as we feared". And if they heard about Vivenna the Awakener, the hero who saved both Idris and Hallandren from another Manywar. Well, they will have reasons to reconsider their opinion about Awakening. The exchange of technology still happens but through economics rather than alliances (yes, military stuff is alliances). It takes just one look at North Korea to see the example of extreme economic isolationism. But this won't happen to Idris, they are too valuable and rich in resources, other nations would do everything to develop good relations with them, and they might even protect them by sheer threat of getting involved if someone was thinking of attacking them, like it would have happened if Bluefingers' plot had succeeded: Please let me know if there’s a wob somewhere out there that says the opposite/ if it’s somewhere in the book, or if you simply misunderstood/had something else in your mind. That's why I said Austre, not Austrism practiced by Idrians - I meant that Idrians believe that this is the case but the Five Visions do not prohibit the use of Awakening and Breaths. Coppermind:
  15. Personally I think that whatever is partially in the bubble is fully in the bubble (confirmed) but if that outside end hit something/someone, the bubble would absorb energy and momentum and the strike would be like there was no bubble at all.
  16. Not exactly. It's not about war, it's about how passionate Kaladin is about fighting - not war, not killing but just fighting, the thrill of competition. RoW ch 15:
  17. No, it's time bubbles are anchored to mass not speed. Some training? You have to be on your way to become a Savant, or be a Savant to do that. It's more about the familiarity with the power, not identity, Wayne wasn't able to do that, so you would need to be better than him. You're asking for too much. Careful yes from me. But you need to land and for that you need to drop your bubble in the air so you can start steel pushing to reduce your speed. Yes.
  18. Here is a WoB on this:
  19. No, because once you give up your Breath and become a Drab, you're undetectable to life sense. Life sense detects innate investiture - part of the soul - and something like plants would be only detectable with high amounts of Breaths - Vasher could faintly sense grass but not lichen. Microorganisms are impossible to detect - they're too small and have almost no soul at all. Life sense caps at 1000 Breaths, which Vasher had (not in the quote below as he Awakened something). Ch 21: Mistborn spoilers:
  20. Austre or the Five Visions don't really prohibit the use of Breaths, It's Idrians who believe that Breaths souls of people thus using them should be forbidden. But this version emerged after Manywar. But overall yes, you are right. Mostly. Idrians are already at disadvantage, with no big population centers, no cities, no access to navigational rivers or seas (likely) and with a small poulation - they won't be able to compete on their own either way in this state. They can compete if they make proper alliances and through them they could acquire new technologies. They are in the best spot for it - Idris is in the middle of everyone, on the trade routes between Hallandren and nations behind mountains. And because Siri is now the wife of Susebron and at some point they both wanted to visit Idris, I speculate that the relations between Idris and Hallandren will soon drastically improve and they might start looking at Breaths in a bit warmer light. But the change is needed in the long term, Idris is too important and they might eventually get dominated, if not militarily, then economically. However they do have a point in refusing to give up their Breaths - being a Drab worsen your physical and mental health, it can lead to depression and it's generally not a nice thing.
  21. The best? Ha, you made me laugh The problem with being maniacally obsessed with some task is that you lose the ability to properly judge not only your own abilities, but also your safety and consequences of doing whatever you're obsessed about. You can be so obsessed that you won't see how much you're messing things up, or how dangerous it is until you stop tapping, which could be too late. You won't be using your abilities or talents more effectively, you will drive yourself to exhaustion and in doing so you will make many mistakes. It is very helpful and beneficial in low amounts, but the more you tap the more dangerous for yourself you become, and you won't even realize that because you would be so hyper-focused on your task. Plus spending time being depressed is a big no no and it might cause some more permanent slight mental health issues.
  22. Of course there can be, but on average they aren't like Breeze, and hiring someone like him would be really expensive. I wouldn’t expect a skilled Soother/Rioter to work like that. Right now this isn't the case. It may also be that the workplace rules prohibit the use of aluminum hats for Rioter's sake. I don't For me it's still one of the worst.
  23. The Sunlit Man spoilers are NOT allowed here. This topic should be made in the Spoiler Zone, specifically in The Sunlit Man (Cosmere Spoilers) subforum. I've asked mods to move it there for you. My response will include uncovered spoilers for the Sunlit Man, as I hope this thread will be quickly moved to the correct section of the forum. We don't know this. And we don't know this as well. From TLM we know Roshar is dangerous for Ghostbloods, we don't know if that's for everyone. It might mean that Shallan succeeded in her fight against Ghostbloods and expelled them from Roshar. What's your source on that? I'm asking because you've presented this as one of 3 pieces of information we know from books. And we don't know this - we suspect Cultivation is planning something more for Dalinar and Lift, based on what she did with Taravangian, but we don't know about anything important being in Shinovar. Ishar is there, that's it. Just so you remember, the events of the Sunlit Man are happening far, far in the future of Cosmere, near the end of the story. Faaar after SA10. The events referenced by the book could happen in the second half of SA, not in KoWT. Nomad became the Dawnshard when he was 38 years old, and this is definitely further in the future than KoWT based on his current age. Here is the problem with that. We don't know what any of this means. It could mean that Kaladin is dead, thus Nomad was surprised that he saw him, it could mean that Kaladin can't leave Roshar, or that Kaladin doesn't know about larger Cosmere/isn't interested in it. Or it might even mean that Nomad didn't believe that Kaladin would ever want to speak with him again. Or it could mean that logic dictates that it's nearly impossible to be on the same planet as Kaladin is, after doing a random Skip. We don't know what that meant, all we know is that Nomad was surprised by the thought of Kaladin being there. I'm only trying to clarify that we don't know what happened to Kaladin based on TSM. All we know is that Nomad was surprised by his sight, which could indicate dozens of different things. But let's assume something major had happened to him for the sake of your theory. It’s still a fair assumption to make. Bond is the wrong term, merge/fuse Odium with Honor. This is possible and even could be done by a Bondsmith. But Honor isn't about logic, he's about bonds and natural laws. Oh, you mean Dalinar will merge Odium with Honor while Taravangian will remain their Vessel. Overall that's an interesting theory. While it's mostly based on speculation (like most theories), you cleverly combined them with what we know, what's possible or what we suspect might happen. It sounds more or less plausible in my opinion.
  24. I personally don't know what it would do. Soulstamps require restamping, this means they require reinvesting, to keep working, but that's because your soul wants to snap back to its original state, just like Rashek's age was snapped back once he stopped tapping F-Atium. If you simply rip off a piece of Forged soul, it might be damaged enough so that piece won't want to snap back, because it's separate, it no longer knows what it should be. So I think it's very likely that the stolen piece of soul would remain Forged. The WoB kind of implies that: ""What will it do?" It will do what you've been overwritten with". This all should be permanent as the ideal image of yourself, to which the soul is snapped back, is connected to your identity, and the majority of your identity isn't stolen by the spike, so the soul in the spike should not know what's its original "look", thus it would simply remain Forged. Therefore yes, stealing strength from Shaizan would permanently give you more strength and it wouldn't snap back.
  25. It should work. Probably not because of Allomantic Agreement of '94, it seems like emotional Allomancy is limited only to commercial parlors and Wax was even threatening them that he will report them to the police as they didn't have a proper shielding and emotional Allomancy was leaking out into the surrounding area. I doubt it would be legal in the workplace to affect your workers, as who's to say your boss doesn't force you to work for a lower salary, stay overtime or do some illegal activity for him or stuff like that. This is too shady. Plus you can tell your emotions are being played with, Breeze is dead, normal Soothers or Rioters aren't that good to make those emotions feel like a natural part of you. It would make you feel weird - you know your emotions are being tampered with, you know you aren't happy or motivated, you know this isn't right. How can you work in a place where you can't trust your own feelings? Oh wow, my bad, I thought you were talking about Hemalurgic Flaw. I automatically assumed that there must be something about Hemalurgy in your topic Yes, this Flow can be made with F-electrum. But some people don't need more determination, Kelsier had a lot of it without any help.
