Ok, here is a giant list of a bunch of characters rankings: @beantheboy12 Alesandrel Im going to say about 50 points with the skills: About 30 points for equipment (aluminum lined vials help remove one of the only ways to attack mistborn, getting rid of their metals In addition the atium adds to that). The mistborn is at 160 on the index. Needs 90 weakness points. Weaknesses: Slow: -25 (yeah that's pretty bad, it should also affect him in fights.) Needs to be provoked: -25 (I would like clarification on what it means to be provoked? Does he return a threat with equal force or does he have no reservations once hes been provoked? Like if someone insults his mom, would he insult theirs back, or would he be provoked and kill them? Does this make sense?) No guns: -5 (can still use coins as he is a mistborn, but I will give him this.) Minor claustrophobia: -3 (He panics, but can still function probably, plus its unlikely that anyone can escape if their arms and legs are trapped, not unique to him.) Waps: -2 (there have never been wasps in the RP, virtually no chance of encountering one). Depending on the specifics of the provocation thing, he could be fine, or he could need 30 more weaknesses points. @FatherTiempo Askaldar Ok this character is interesting. I think that I won't be able to give it a piece by piece ranking, but here's what I think. Essentially what we have here is Kelsier, but no Atium. Also less experianced. If a total mistborn is 160 points, I would put it at about 130, because the metals that he isn't good in, are the metals that are least effective in a fight. I need to know what his moral law is, but at a rough estimate I'm going to say minus 20 for not killing people and not hitting people while they are down. He is at 110M points, so the moral law needs to take off about 10 points. I'm not taking off more for not killing people because you can't kill characters in RP without asking to see if they could die in the first place. @ShadowLord_Lith Erin 70 for the skills 100 for the compounding The scar is worth 10 points because as was pointed out, fights are rarely that long, I assume it would affect all physical exertion. The narcolepsy is worth -20. The pocket watches is about -10 because its crippling. You are at 50s and 80m points. Do you want to add more? Or can I post it. @Marzipan @Invocation Here is an updated version of the index: I'm sorry, it raises the point values for radiant a ton, but stormlight healing is almost as good as gold healing, so they needed to be raised. At the bottom I have my logic for why the rankings are such. Please edit your characters accordingly, and provide the oaths that they swore. @Darth Woodrack OK, Sarah is good. Silva is also good. Can you please update the bios with all the new information and post them here? Once you do I will add them to the list.

So essentially, a good spy. We could certainly improve upon her abilities. "If you know a man's secret, he'll do whatever you want," Lita said, swirling the last of the red liquor absently. "But if you know the world's secret, you can do whatever you want." Mac's attention snapped back to Lita. Now she was a person after his own heart. "Tell me," he asked softly, "What do you know about the worlds secrets? And what are you willing to do to find out more?" He stood up and slid a metal spike out of his pocket, spinning it about idly. "In my time here I've found that its not what people are willing to do that makes them useful, its what they aren't willing to do. When you reach a persons limits, you find out what makes them mortal. Then you can improve them. Then they can become a god." He straightened and refocused. "Sorry for the tangent. You will find that many of the members of the DA aren't one shot deals. We tend to be more jacks of all trades, and I tend to be a philosopher on occasion." He spun the spike in a circle, sending an alleycant message back to Laurelai. She's a keeper, but don't let her know yet. If she wont work as another apprentice, as a spy. @Voidus @ZincAboutIt

Mac glanced around the tavern again, watching for any potential assassins; Making sure that he was looking in control and composed the entire time. Hopefully I pulled it off. He thought, sitting down. "Good afternoon sir," the lady said, smiling. "We were just discussing a potential meeting of two interested parties. I must say, your appearance is quite fortuitous." Wait what? It was already the afternoon? He checked his pocket watch, and sighed. Internally, he berated himself. There was a bake off that he had missed. He had been looking forward to that for ages! Gosh dangit. He sighed again. "Oh well," He muttered, then more loudly he asked, "Do you want a cookie?" He pulled a classic chocolate chip and oatmeal cookie out of his suit coat and offered it to the lady. "You must be the interesting person my friend here mentioned. Lets hope you aren't a waste of time. First, let's make something clear. I do not appreciate subtlety, which may be weird for the head of the Counterintelligence department. Please say what you mean clearly. Now, I was informed that you may be a useful asset to our organization. What do you have to offer to the table?"

Missing one of 5 senses, or any of the other ones. Missing a limb Being an amoeba. Being dead Not having faith in their ability to do anything. Paralyzing phobias A code or methodology that restrict their actions (Either a code of honor or a obsessive desire to kill anyone wearing pink) Any of those work. As an aside, I will be back to full moderating capacity starting in an hour or two, I will make sure to do any characters that got suggested over the course of the last week, then I will ask the general public to see how many of their characters are on the main list.
-
Yes it is too much, even if they have no investiture. The net point value for any character needs to be below 150 points.

Mac walked out of the alleyway next to the tavern, dressed in his usual suit and bowler hat. Yep, this appears to be the place. Hopefully I didn’t risk assassination for nothing. He pushed in the door and walked in, looking around for Laurelai. He spotted her and walked over to the bar, keeping an eye on the other patrons. “Now what do we have here?” He asked quietly. @Voidus @ZincAboutIt

I will.

Hi @WeebTrash at a glance the power of the character looks fine, but I will need to see a lot more detail before it can be approved. In the first and second post of this thread we have a series of guidelines and things that will really help flesh out the character and give the rest of us an idea about who this character is.

Yes, assuming his weakness cancels out the excess investiture points.
-
No, he doesn’t have to spend those points. He is 20 points over on general points, and he has 20 surplus skill points. His weakness will need to cancel out the investiture points, but he doesn’t need to spend the left over skill points.
-
Actually voidus was the one who wrote the portion about the skills vs power points. But I was there when they wrote it up. The idea is that you have 100 general points. You can spend these on magic or equipment or skills. Then you have 50 skill points. These can only be used for skills. Not power or equipment.

Yay! Welcome to the dark side! We have cookies. If you don’t mind me asking, what did you think the issue was before? I also would prefer to create plots that don’t have as many opportunities for character transition. It can be difficult to assure that that sort of thing happens all the time though. I think that limiting the possibility for universe transition will allow all plots to benefit from that without forcing them to not have those kind of moments. Am I making sense? EDIT: I mean sure we can. The DA has plans for massive benalloy time warping breeding programs. The alleys also don’t need to keep temporal unity, so once the initial seeds for the programs were collected the DA wouldn’t necessarily be maintaining a massive presence in those societies, unless they were strong enough to pose a threat.

You don’t actually need 50 points of skill. 50 points is just the max. @Invocation I’m going to hold off on ranking this character for another day or two, sorry. The radiant portion of the index will be Redone tmrw, and 4th oath radiants will be a lot more points. I don’t want to rate this character to have to re-do it tmrw.

I don’t think it would be a weakness. There are four aspects to being a drab: easily sick more dull not detectable by lifesense has no lifesense (can’t tell when people are watching them). No one gets sick in the RP, and being more dull as a person isn’t exactly something that would be worth anything in terms of point values. If I saw that on a weakness sheet I wouldn’t subtract anything for it. I would say the last two cancel each other out. Being undetectable by lifesense means that people can’t detent when you are there, this can also apply a little bit to non nalthisian’s, even though they don’t have breaths. This is canceled out in my opinion by not having a lifesense. Can’t tell when people are around you instinctively, can’t tell when people are watching you.

You thought you could trick me. BUT YOU CANT! You never said that the letter needed to be the beginning of the word. Clearly you have changed him from nigh omnipotent to just Omnipotent.
-
I am sorry itiah. Its too op. None clearly stands for Nigh Omnipotent. Clearly OP.

Sorry, it posted that twice. It’s fixed now. 1. I don’t actually think of that like that. The guilds are a part of the entire setting. I wouldn’t say that this is alleyverse stuff influencing that the other stuff. I would say that they are shared elements of the entire backstory. For alleyverse stuff to influence the other universes it would need to be something like laws from the alleycity government applying there, or stuff from the other side of the world coming over, or specific pieces of alleyverse history impacting general history on that side (like the 7 day war decimating their economy). The guilds having a presence there is like all magic in the cosmere coming from investiture. 2. I understand, I was just trying to clear that up. 3. I want to keep characters separate, plots separate, and enough world building separate that you don’t have to read anything about the different universes to understand what’s going on in a specific universe. Ideally everything would be separate (to reduce complexity), but there would need to be some form of exchange because there will be some opportunity for characters to move to the new worlds, at least initially. The general public would probably be aware of the multiverses. 4-5. I was just pointing out that the type of story that it appears people want can’t be done on the other side of the world, which lends support to the multiverse idea. 6. My point in putting this there is that any sizable society that forms would be heavily influenced by the DA, which can be limiting on whatever stories you want to tell.

Lol beantheboy I was editing my post with that when you replied As a mod, I can score weaknesses. @Marzipan I need to ask you a quick question about her claustrophobia. How severe is it? When will it be triggered and what effect will it have on her the more severe the more points it will take off. Also, I would encourage tying in the weakness to her back story. We know that all radiant are broken to some degree, and adding in that brokenness can really help flesh out a character. That isn’t required though. @Darth Woodrack do not advertise guilds in this thread.
-
Yeah we noticed this actually. I did a revision of parts of the index before I was a mod and showed them to the mods, but we never got around to adding them to the index. I will say that I completely reworked the radiant section, but I decided to keep all the different orders at the same value. The idea is that while the index is combat slanted, it needs to take into account general usefulness. And all of the orders have similar usefulness imo I forget my edits to the half shards and stuff, but I did do heavy revision. Also the hemalurgic spikes are completely redone, essentially they act as if you had been given the ability normally with a few point deductions. I also reworked the nalthis section, because the way it’s laid out is kind of weird. I will post my edits here in a day or two, I don’t have access to me PC right now so I can’t acces it.

I’m not sure what you mean by this. I was saying that they are all apart of this RP because they all share a similar backdrop of being influenced by the guilds. I don’t think I have ever advocated for complete separation, if I did then I wasn’t saying what I meant. Obviously there are some common ties between the universes because characters can move between them, with difficulty, in addition the different guilds could each have a presence in the difference universes. However most of the world building would be separate. Also, your points about the aviar and Nazh are valid, but none of them impact the story in anyway whatsoever. You don’t need to be aware of the larger cosmere in order to understand mraize and nazh and their roles in the books. It’s all self contained as of now. Thats what we are aiming for, a group of self contained universes that you dont need to understand the larger multiverse to take a part in. I don’t actually think there is. As of now, the most popular alternate setting is sci-fi, that is almost always inter planetary, which is something that the other side of the world isn’t built for. In addition, the voidus literally created the world, the DA definitely at least keeps tabs on what’s over there so we can spike it if needed.
-
Because it is a part of the same set of settings. They are a bunch of universes that are influenced by the DA and the alleys and whatever other guilds want to get involved. The only difference is the types of stories that people want to tell. In addition, why does Brandon call some of his short cosmere stories cosmere? Most of them are never going to affect the larger cosmere. Like shadows for silence, it’s stated that the characters are probably not coming back, and certainly aren’t going to affect the big cosmere crossover that is going to happen. Its all part of one galaxy. Just like all of these would be part of the alleyverse’s. Because for certain stories to be plausible you need a certain amount of space. For example, there is no way one could reaslistically set up a science fiction Based society on the other side of the world. In addition, it would be unrealistic to assume that there is absolutely no society or group on the other side of the world that hasn’t been discovered by someone. Agreed. That would be terrible, that’s why people wouldn’t be allowed to create universes Willy nilly. At the very least they would need to show that there is enough support for a couple of different plots or at least enough people willing to participate to warrant creating a new universe. EDIT: @Darth Woodrack I completely agree that the only limit should be plausibility, unfortunately the only characters who could plausibly move around to flip between threads quickly are Mac, Ambrosia, and Walker. Realistically, even if you have a ton of money you won’t be able to get across the city in less than 15 minutes. Unless otherwise stated, most interactions wouldn’t realistically take longer than 5 or 10. There isn’t really a plausible way for people to switch between threads unless they can teleport instantly, or planned to arrive a head of time. The interactions are too short for that kind of thing.

So, if memory serves, Silva Rey’s weakness that she is obsessive needs a little more definition. How obsessive is obsessive? Depending on how obsessive that is it may change the points Sarah also needs about 15 more points of weakness. Those were the only two that weren’t approved, but I am having issues with locating the updated character sheets for Darkhold and the Wraith. If you could point me in the right direction that would be awesome. Again, I’m sorry that this has taken so long. I haven’t had a whole lot of access to the shard these last few days. So sorry that I’ve fallen behind.

I was waiting until all of your characters were accepted, but if you want me to I can do it. You can also RP with any accepted characters, even if they aren’t on the OP

probably the best guild in the alleyverse The Diagramist
MacThorstenson replied to Vargo Seldon's topic in The Alleyverse
I’m not going to be a stickler about it, but the site mods do always say that if you have more information to add you can edit your previous post.- 119 replies
