  1. Oh I completely agree @maxal, all it gives us is to confirm that Dalinar would tend to punish him rather than being the type off Dad to protect him. At most, nice to have. But still, nice to have
  2. Yeah there was some debate about this at the time. I like it if he can't make a realmatically sensible mechanism. I care more about the Cosmere operating consistently. But it would raise concerns about what is canon, without him relegating the graphic novel to semi-canon (canon unless he says otherwise). At the very least I'm happy he acknowledges slatrification doesn't make much sense and at the least it may make him come up with a workable explanation for it later (through a Khriss' reference or something).
  3. Here are the passages from Secret History. So yeah the actual clear vision of the past, as opposed to the alternate present reality, is to do with burning it at the moment of death. Unless Ruin deliberately interfered in the effect of his own metal as he wanted TLR dead...
  4. I was being a bit thick@Pagerunner. I'd seen discussions on it before that speculated on what it would be. But now you draw attention to it, it does clearly sound like he's referring to the name Topaz (with the implication that there was an actual topaz that is now 'dead').
  5. @Calderis, @Cowmanthethird here is one of my favorite WoBs from this year, courtesy of @strumienpola at the Warsaw signing. It's one of my favorites because slatrification never made any storming sense
  6. I just saw this WoB for what feels like the first time. It's from Krakow I mean it's nothing huge but it indicates Dalinar would be likely to punish Adolin.
  7. Intriguing. The Renarin Quest is top of the agenda now so I'll see if that helps.
  8. I just read this 7 year old blog from Rothfuss about writing a blurb for Way of Kings. Magic. Favorite attempt was “Brandon Sanderson’s new book is printed on delightfully soft-yet durable paper. With more than a thousand pages, The Way of Kings is sure to bring you several weeks of good, solid use, though that may vary according to your diet and personal hygiene.” Whole thing spoilered for length
  9. I've wondered this before, it's a good question. I'd be very surprised if you can destroy someone's cognitive aspect by beating the rust out of the flame that represents it. I know it's Scadrial, but Kel wasn't able to directly affect things through the cognitive realm unless the person was mad or broken. More than that, it wouldn't make plot sense. Anyone who can get into the cognitive realm could just destroy people without resistance, switch 'em off, like they're in the Matrix. Whether a shardblade/honorblade/nightblood can is an interesting question, but even then it just seems too overpowered.
  10. Great rundown @Calderis and @maxal. And thanks for giving what you can @Argent. I'm not sure if you wish you could share more or you're sitting back, laughing maniacally and stroking your beard (I like to think the latter), but a tantalising hint and a mighty quest is exactly what I've been needing during the 17th Shard's Weeping Since I've finally started my Way of Kings reread, I shall obsess on this and report back. I'll particularly look out for mentions of Renarin where his name isn't stated (ie scenes that are hard to search for). A quest!
  11. It would be very unusual for me to question your sourcing, but that WoB doesn't say that. It refers to his talk with Kaladin. Is there something more that makes you so confident? Seems likely but I feel I'm missing something extra
  12. That was my impression. It's such a strange response but it's a verbatim transcript and it actually sounds like it is. It doesn't make sense applying to the Heralds or Radiants, or any combination of the two I can think of. I figured he was distracted in some way.
  13. Aah the more interesting one is this Best idea seems to be an Aether but it's uncertain as far as I know.
  14. As me da' used to say, give a man a compliment, make him happy and deluded for a day. Teach a man to fish for compliments, make him happy and deluded his whole life
  15. Agreed. When I eventually make my way to Portland there'll be many laughs and much nerding out to be had
  16. You organize Cards Against the Cosmere every day and that is a true service to community
  17. I hadn't seen that. Just this WoP
  18. I was thinking about exactly this yesterday. Seems likely to be greatshells because I doubt there were enough Aimians to make that bloody impression. Buuuut it could be Aimian for this reason
  19. And when they complain about the pain you tell them "ssshhhhh, don't think about it or you'll attract painspren, and painspren will eat your soul"?
  20. I find it hard to judge entire societies based on the little we know. But my favorite WoB on Sons of Honor is this, not because they're necessarily bad, but because they're wrong.
  21. No. Only way you know is if you see it or if you have more upvote notifications for a post than you have upvotes
  22. As someone who exclusively uses the theorizing forums (plus a bit of meme and Sanderfan funnies) I can say that traffic has decreased a lot in 7 months, but the post count from the old guard has gone down heaps since Discord. I agree it's a net positive but the theorizing forums sure are lacking the expertise they had. I mean most newer members consider me a resource and I've only been here half a year. Which is nice, but not as nice as when the Weirys, Kurks and so on are actively contributing. Come at me Oathvember!
  23. Yeah they started it up a few months ago I think, here's the link (which hopefully works?) https://discord.gg/5US8Nq It's now the only place we hear from the Ancients most of the time, there's some good discussions on there. And I agree, variety is everything. But for classic beauty, it's hard to go too far past the Norwegian fjords. Cruising them is one of my greatest scenic travel experiences
  24. Welcome back, I've seen posts from you from before I joined Yeah most of the old lot have been really inactive, they're mostly on Discord. Kurkistan's theorizing hasn't been active though he did update his epic time bubble thread. But they assure us that all will be back to normal once Oathbringer is out. Something I can't wait for! I want to be part of the amazing discovery threads I've seen from before I joined 7 months ago On other notes I'm glad you've recovered and I'm glad you're living in the world's prettiest country!
