Guesses for future prologue perspectives?
Extesian replied to PatronOfRot's topic in Stormlight Archive
Oh my apologies Oversleep, I completely misread what you said, I thought you were suggesting 5 versions of the prologue from 5 different Heralds. Your actual idea is MUCH better. -
Guesses for future prologue perspectives?
Extesian replied to PatronOfRot's topic in Stormlight Archive
The wording of this WoB may be misleading but I think he means it -
Book of the New Sun. It's theoretically scifi, a dying Earth scenario, but presented as fantasy
-
Yeah that's the canon order. With Recreance ancient but seemingly a while after Aharietiam and the splintering an unknown time after the Recreance.

Here's a later WoB

Guesses for future prologue perspectives?
Extesian replied to PatronOfRot's topic in Stormlight Archive
They were separated after arriving in Roshar -
Just for your reference, here's the section where it's discussed. There may be something elsewhere I couldn't search for (eg Jasnah referring to their relationship rather than using the name Gavilar) so I'll keep an eye out during my current reread.

Lerasium actually adds to existing innate investiture, so it would make them very very powerful mistborn. Lerasium makes you a mistborn by Connecting you to Preservation, so a sliver of lerasium is unlikely to provide the threshold of Connection necessary. You can alloy it with allomantic metals to make mistings, that way it goes further. But we don't know how match lerasium is needed to make an allomantic alloy.

Maybe every lecturer but one will quit and it will end the cycle. Well, for 4500 years. -
Have you read Book of the New Sun? The narrator/main character has a disturbing lack of morals, he's a torturer's apprentice. He does have some, he does good, but he's as morally vacuous a hero as I've read.

If you were a twinborn, what would you like to be?
Extesian replied to Lord Bookwyrm's topic in Mistborn
Good question. We don't know enough about what storing Connection does I think. Does it store a specific Connection? Does it store all your Connections? Perhaps if you run out of atium and keep storing Connection it would stop your spiritual self from realizing it's aged.- 155 replies

Demoux and the source of everlasting life
Extesian replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Mistborn
Maybe Maybe.... But.....doesn't look like it ....since it's unlikely the Seventeenth Shard have enough atium and can all compound atium -
Ym's belief in One is the Iriali belief. My guess is it's what inspired Arclo, though his own physiology could as well.

My Model of Realmatics- and speculations on aluminum
Extesian replied to Steeldancer's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I know metals are just a gateway for the flow of Preservation's investiture, I'm just suggesting that, concurrent to that flow, there's an extra small amount of kinetic investiture that you get from the metal itself being converted from a physical metal (matter) into investiture. In terms of the metal being forcibly converted, and how that relates to my unformed theory, my best guess is that the effect, in Allomancy, of outputting that null waveform is to instantly convert matter into investiture, but the investiture is in this unusable state/wave/tone. But you can see how speculative this is, I'm just trying to present a way to think about aluminum. I'd be surprised if I'm right. Edit - to clarify, as I just saw the last two posts, that WoB is why I have that idea in my mind that they are converted into investiture, but that the investiture must somehow be unusable- 40 replies

My Model of Realmatics- and speculations on aluminum
Extesian replied to Steeldancer's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah I agree that aluminum is unlikely to have no spiritual aspect, or at least that that's not the reason for its effects. I've always been a fan of the waveform theory of investiture, focus and Intent. That basically investiture haa to be in the right waveform to have the effect you need, and that the waveform comes through a combination of the original investiture (Intent), with that form alerted by the focus (I've long wanted to do a Theory of Everything around this). Based on that, what I want to believe about aluminum is that it basically cancels out the waveform. If you want to use the musical analogy, it changes every tone of investiture, with its musical complexity, into a flat note. My problem with this is that burning aluminum doesn't just cancel out oor neutralise investiture, it actually destroys the other metals (I believe it converts them from matter to investiture). Which I find hard to reconcile. If I ever do reconcile that and some other issues, I'll probably write a Theory on it.- 40 replies

What characters would you want to meet each other?
Extesian replied to kiapet's question in Cosmere Q&A
But it's all for nought without Drifter -
Villain vs hero is so hard to say with Roshar. There's enough information on mythology there to make people think they have the answer to saving the world, but not enough to prevent differences of opinion. Taravangian does some ruthless things but if it turns out he's right, was he ever a villain? Same with every secret society there. They all believe they're right, so who's right in the end?. Kel felt right, then seemed wrong, then was right. Someone can feel like a villain the whole time, because they oppose someone who's a sympathetic viewpoint character, but then turn out to be right. The only differences between a villain and an anti-hero are usually sympathetic viewpoint and whether their effect on the world is positive or negative. what if it ends up being that the Radiants are wrong, that their existence is creating a problem. Then were they villains or heroes?

Szeth's Abilities Going Into Oathbringer
Extesian replied to Stormrunner1730's topic in Stormlight Archive
Hmm. I don't think he flies in Edgedancer. The others tell him to, kind of implying that he should be able to, but I don't think we know he can. Brandon has indicated he can't take in Stormlight so that indicates he can't. Brandon has said that Nightblood may give powers on Roshar when bonded, but not the Surgebinding ones we're familiar with. Szeth was healed with a fabrial that uses the progression (healing) surge. And his lag thing is because the fabrial didn't quite reattach his soul to his body properly.- 7 replies

Extesian replied to kiapet's question in Cosmere Q&A
Hmmmmmmm. Have you read Words of Radiance? If not do noooot look at the spoiler. Words of Radiance spoiler -
Adolin won't be a Lightweaver, Elsecaller, Windrunner, Releaser, Stoneward, Skybreaker, Bondmith, Willshaper, Truthwatcher or Edgedancer either.

Hmm I've done a pretty good look at every Gavilar reference in the books. Only Sadeas and Dalinar knew of the blood message and Davilar expressed disbelief that Gavilar could write, but it was the only plausible option he could think of. I couldn't find any incident of him appearing to read or any other suspicion that he could. He knew The Way Of Kings from it being read to him. So i don't think so? But maybe someone will remember something I don't.
-
Agreed, good work @Shqueeves I didn't read carefully enough. He still claims he was king (clearly untrue) and god (kinda true) so he was still being Kelsiery.
