Random Stuff X: Something Weird
StrikerEZ replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Okay, that’s just weird. I’m 17 and I still know what a floppy disk is. -
I mean, that WoB doesn’t necessarily disprove your theory. Taln could’ve been Ash’s bodyguard once they were settled on Roshar. And all the Heralds (besides Ishar, probably) could’ve been children at the time of the exodus.

@Steel Inqusitive Okay, here is the thing about Identity: it’s one of the underlying forces of how the Cosmere works, much like gravity in our world. Even if you really wanted to work against it, there is no way to do so (unless you have enough Investiture, but with enough Investiture you can do basically anything, so that’s besides the point. While perception and Intent do have some influence over things like this, I think the Identity of a spren would be enough to resist the Soulstamp. I basically agree with the conclusions you’ve made on the other two points. However, I do think that, even if a spren wanting the Forgery to happen were enough to overcome the Identity issues, a deadeye is still not conscious enough to let it happen.

The Official Thread of Relationships
StrikerEZ replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
So, at the end of the summer, I started getting pretty close to this girl that I’d known for awhile (since 7th grade, and I’m a senior now), but we were never very close before. About 3-ish weeks ago, I realized I like her. Then, over thanksgiving break last week, a friend of mine told me that my crush had told her that she didn’t like me back and that someone had told my crush I like her. There’s a lot more to that part of the story (I only told two people before I asked the friend of the crush if she liked me, and neither of them told my crush, but the gist is that my crush heard someone tell a joke about us liking each other and then she connected the dots on her own), but that’s unimportant. Anyway, I was in panic mode, and since I knew that she didn’t like me anyway, I just went and asked her if she knew I liked her, and she said yeah. Which kinda sucks, but it’s fine. Except, we talked for a bit after that, and now because of that talk I definitely like her even more. So rip. -
Yeah, I definitely felt that as well. Though, I think the horror of how messed up the idea of snapshots are is part of what makes them so interesting. As for how I felt about the story, I definitely did not see the plot twists coming because I’m not well-read in the genre. Overall, I really enjoyed the story, though it has been a long time since I read it.

Well, as much as I don’t like the human!Syl theory, we technically don’t know that there is no way for a splinter to become a human. It’d probably be really hard, but I’m sure a Shard could do it if they really wanted to.

@Spock Dude, that is really good! It almost got me crying because it brought back all the emotions I felt when reading the Tien death scene. Bravo.

Hey, thanks guys. I kinda wrote it in like ten minutes after having a mini panic attack while in the shower, so I’m glad you like it! -

Here’s the WoB, since it’s now been transcribed.

Nope, no one asked a follow up question, at least not at that signing.

So, I was listening to the source audio for the Denver signing and I found a really interesting WoB. It hasn’t been transcribed yet, so this isn’t the most accurate retelling of this WoB, but it gets the point across. (Again, very very very paraphrased) In addition, Brandon also mentioned that he’d have to check his notes to make sure, but he’s pretty sure that Shalash was either born before the exodus, but it could’ve been after. So, I don’t really know what to think of this yet. This completely messes with how I thought the timeline was working. If the Heralds existed on Ashyn (Brandon said they weren’t Heralds yet at that point), how old are they? Did they live longer than normal humans? Or was the transition from exodus to first desolation a lot quicker than we had previously assumed?

Unlikely cosmere relationships. That may just work??
StrikerEZ replied to Tommymater's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don’t understand how you came to the conclusion that Ialai and Renarin need to be in a relationship. But I don’t like it. Though I did upvote your post for the sheer absurdity of it. -
OH, I can’t believe I forgot to add this to my list!
-
Oh gosh, there’s a lot. I’ll just list them as they come to me (a lot of these have been mentioned by others). [MEGA SPOILERS] When Kaladin is remembering how Tien died. Everything building up to that was just so good, and then Tien’s death came, and wow. This scene was the only time a book has ever made me truly cry. Like, I’ve teared up a little reading other books before, but I full out cried when Tien died. I just felt Kaladin’s pain so much, because I already really relate to him. Tien’s death had me thinking about my own little brother and that just made the crying worse. Definitely one of the most emotional cosmere scenes ever. Plus, everything that happens afterward with Kaladin choosing to save Dalinar and all that. Kelsier’s death. ‘Nuff said. The entire Kholinar battle up to Elhokar’s death. Like others have said, that death shook me so hard. Right when Elhokar was starting to become a better person, right when he was about to swear the first ideal, Moash comes out of nowhere and kills him. I’ve never hated someone more in my entire life. Also, seeing Kaladin deal with the effects of that while the group is Shadesmar really resonated with me. It was also cool to see Adolin help him. The end of Hero of Ages. God damnation. I AM UNITY. That entire buildup where you’re not sure if Dalinar will succumb to Odium or not is just so good. Wax killing Lessie (again). When Vin killed the Lord Ruler. I was not expecting that in the first book of the trilogy, and that scene was just so epic. The epic duel in WoR. That was so cool, and there’s that amazing quote. “Honor is dead, but I’ll see what I can do.” Szeth and Kaladin’s battle at the end of WoR. That was epic, and I had been waiting all of WoK and WoR to see surgebinders really go at it like in that battle. The scene with Shallan and Hoid during OB in Kholinar. That was just so emotional and Shallan desperately needed that at that moment. A lot of these are from Stormlight. Coincidence? I think not. EDIT: Added one more scene

Yes, I 100% agree.

I don’t know how this started, but it’s beautiful.

Dalinar the politician and the Vorin church
StrikerEZ replied to Diomedes's topic in Stormlight Archive
Actually, you’re the one missing their point: This is the main point of their argument: How can you think that Odium could be keeping the spirit of the religion while leaving out most of the facts on purpose? To Mah’alleinir: I think you are mixing two things together. Shards only have to stick to the spirit of a PACT, something that was an agreement between two people (but even that is open to loopholes if either party sees something as sticking to the spirit, even though the other party doesn’t see it that way). Odium never made a pact with the Vorin church, so he’s not breaking it and can lie all he wants. -
The spren’s perception of the former Radiants probably isn’t influenced by the Vorin church. Their perceptions are probably mostly influenced by the actual Recreance and the fact that the old Radiants were willing to kill so many spren, for whatever reason they did so. The Vorin church’s denouncing of the Radiants probably has to do with the just the fact that they abandoned the rest of Roshar.
-
If Elhokar had died at the end of Words of Radiance, I would’ve said good riddance. However, I don’t see how you could still wish him to die after the arc he went through during OB. He’s definitely not one of my favorite characters, but that redemption arc was just so good. And everything was building up to this epic moment where Elhokar would swear the first ideal in this heated, chaotic battle. Then it all just fell apart, and it was so tragic, heart-wrenching, and perfect. If you can’t tell, I think Elhokar’s death and that entire part of the Kholinar sequence is one of the best parts of the entire book, second only to “I am Unity” and the scene with Shallan and Hoid.

Dalinar the politician and the Vorin church
StrikerEZ replied to Diomedes's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think that, in general, Rayse would not be someone that I would normally trust. However, Rayse as Odium is bound to any agreements he intentionally makes, due to his nature as a Shard, so I would trust him on that count. Whatever his Intent is in making pact, he is bound to.
