Being sick.
-
So I have a hardcopy of shadows of self, and the description says there are 4 religions competing for followers. I've read it several times, and only ever been able to identify two. Is this a typo? If so, what are the other religions besides Pathism and Survivorism?

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Steeldancer replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I hate being sick. It sucks. I hate sitting in bed, exhausted, unable to think and be my normal self. I hate when it gets bad enough that I can't even read without getting a massive head ache. Stupid bacteria and viruses, seriously messing up my day. However, there is a positive. It has inspired me to learn the chemical and protein details of the immune system, something I am VERY interested in, and what I want to go into in college. About personal motivation, I have something going for me: my mom. She has huge amounts of motivation, and has been trying to teach me to have that as well. While I still end up procrastinating, when it comes down to it, I will (eventually) get it done. If I didn't have my mom, I doubt I would get anything done. -
Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Steeldancer replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
The problem for me at least is that I'm able to coast by. I'm able to accomplish what I need to without truly trying. But I know that eventually it will catch up with me. Hopefully by then I'll be doing something I love, and that motivaton will get me through. -
Have the Heralds been Spiked?
Steeldancer replied to Brightlord M. Alhstrom's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I somewhat doubt that the heralds are spiked, simply because Stormlight is supposed to be independent. If someone is spiked on Roshar, I imagine it's someone not hugely important. -
I know that theory... Because i came up with it

This basically made me think "adolins going to make a radiant training camp and that's going to allow him to bond his sword." What an interesting plot line that would be
-
Wasn't it confirmed that adolins blade is an edgedancer blade? If so, and he awakened his blade, why would he become a dustbringer? That doesn't add up for me.
-
OK. So, there are laws that the shards must follow. Like the champion law that Odium has to follow. Who makes them follow those laws? I assume its related to Adonalsium. But, WHY? Why are there any laws at all? Why can't they do whatever they want? Why must they invest in a champion? Why does the investiture have an intent at all? I know nobody knows the actual answers to these questions, and that they probably won't be answered for a long time, but it has been something thats been bugging me.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Steeldancer replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you spend the entirety of your library volunteer time on the Shard. (I'm not doing anything else lol) When you wrote an entire essay for your AP English exam on Tarangavian. When you try to ironpull the coins out of the fountains. When your dad says he wants a lightsaber for doing the yardwork, but you would rather have a shardblade. When you run around your lawn, trying to scare the grass. When you compare the sentance structure of Brandon Sanderson's books to books that are hugely popular... and realize just how much better constructed it is. (I never realized just how many "..." there is in Harry Potter. Go back! It will blow your mind!) -
I finally pre-ordered my copy the other day. totally worth spending the extra money to get it the day of.

If you haven't read any stuff on the PowerKeepers, start here. While most of my stories focus on Magical individuals, the majority of human kind is still non-magical. At the time of the 12 Cities (about 3,000 years from now), Earth has been discarded as the main human settlement planet. At around 3000 AD, large corporate companies had realized that human kind could no longer just live on Earth. Interstellar technology had started to be developed, but needed more resources. So, several large scale asteroid mining projects began, to acquire the resources not available on Earth. However, workers needed to be housed near the projects to keep tabs on the robotic systems actually doing the mining. So the companies built biodomes around asteroids to house the workers. Many of these projects eventually died out. But two projects survived: Project Infinity and Project Eternity. Project Eternity was a bio-dome for the sole purpose of creating an environment conducive to doing very delicate experiments and testing. Project Eternity, or Eternalis, eventually became the location to be for the brightest minds that humankind had to offer. Project Infinity was a place for the families of the asteroid workers to live. But the upper class of Earth wanted off of Earth; it was overcrowded and polluted. A small colony was growing on the Moon and on Mars, but these rich people wanted somewhere more isolated. Namely, these asteroid homes. So, another level was added onto the bio-dome of Infinitasius. And another. Within 50 years, a dozen levels had been added, and more were in the works to be added. Furthermore, Fusion reactions had finally been perfected. So the center asteroid was hollowed out and turned into a fusion reactor. The bottom levels turned into maintenance levels. The general public demanded to be added to this growing home. Infinitasius would always be growing, layer by layer. By the year 4000, Infinitasius had turned into a small planet, with 10 billion people living within its layers. Also within its layers were vast ecosytems, saved from Earth. Entire levels had massive fields of food; and protected from any sort of diseases or pests, food grew in abundance. Because of this abundance, the planet had been attacked by Space Pirates. Due to this, the minds of Eternalis developed a defense system: Energy Poles, directly connected to the fusion reactor. The outside of Infinitasius is covered in what essentially look like really large telephone poles. These "telephone poles" are what the next layer of Infinitasius is built upon, and have prevent any further raids. After several ships were easily destroyed by the new defense system, Pirates no longer considered it an easy target. Infinitasius became the heart of an Empire. Normal human kind spread throughout the galaxy, terraforming dead worlds into places lush and beautiful. Then we move into the next part of the story, the interaction with the 12 Cities. After the Great Mages returned from the Great Nullification, they only lived about a year. But in that time they created the 12 Cities, and presented an ultimatum to the Empire. Revealing magic to humanity at large for the first time, they told the leaders of the Empire to hand over all magically inclined families, removing magic from the Empire forever, to prevent it from being abused. In return, they wouldn't be destroyed, and the 12 Cities would form an alliance with the Empire. So, all latent magic abilities were moved under the control of the 12 Cities. The 12 Cities and the Empire became allies, essentially controlling the entire galaxy between them. The 12 Cities also acted as liaison between the various alien races, and the Empire. Infinitasius remained the capitol of the Empire. It was eventually moved to a different star system to become more central to the Empire, through a very large wormhole. The star system chosen was one that a mass of Infinitasius could be moved into it without disrupting the gravitational balance of the planets. The main Starship of the Empire was the Manta. Originally a design for an individual atmosphere/space fighter, the size was expanded and turned into a large Starship design. It takes its design from the Manta ray, runs sublight on Ion-drive engines, and above light using an antimatter- powered albecurrie drive. (wormholes require a lot more precision and power. For moving Infinitasius, its perfect. For a Starship, not so much.) Antimatter is harvested around stars, and contained within an electromagnetic suspension field. The Empire has never been forced to fight magicians. They remain at a peaceful distance. But eventually the Dragons decide they want control of the Galaxy again. And no mage, or human, will stand in their way. (I'm still working on that plotline. Eventually I might share it.) Anywas, that is some of the background of Infinitasius. It isn't a huge deal in the plotlines I've worked on so far, but I do intend to work on it some more. The idea of a self contained man made planet is one I've always enjoyed.

Ok so here are my thoughts after rereading the thread. The way Eternum hopped on to vote me sets off so many alarm bells. However I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt, I don't want to lynch a brand new player his first cycle, even if he is an elim. I was an elim my very first game, so I can sympathize if he's evil. If he's still suspicious in a few cycles or so, I'll be more aggressive towards him. Stink is feeling lonely. Here's a vote stink to let you know you aren't forgotten. (I will retract that vote lol)

I vote we don't kill me so I can become a speedster. I promise you can kill me tomorrow, but I really really want to be a speedster. Let a guy have his dreams please. Also has no one noticed after multiple games with me as a villager, that I'm ALWAYS over defensive? @Arraenae please take that into consideration.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Steeldancer replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
I was not having a good day. I was tired, hungry, and work was hard. But work came through. Because apparently it is Hawaiian day. They're feeding all the employees Hawaiian food, and it's fantastic. I love Wegmans -
Sorry about being overly defensive earlier I stayed up too late last night working on the final mechanics for my Princess Bride game and now I'm feeling just really tired. I'm also still at work so I won't vote for now. Still the reasoning for PKs vote is ridiculous. No gm would give a hint like that to the identity of the elims. I thought about voting stink for an equally stupid reason, but decided against it.
