  1. I was doing some casual reading of some of the older WoB's, and I came across this gem. While I know WoK Prime is vastly different from the current version, I had no idea that the "Stormlight Archive" wasn't the first name of the series, it was "Oathshards". That set up the debate in my head of thinking either we might see something called Oathshards in future SA books, Oathshards got completely removed from future canon, or if Oathshards were just changed to Dawnshards. After reading this WoB, I thought it'd be fun to make a topic for people to post interesting pieces of trivia or past lore/canon concerning the cosmere, I know there probably have been topics like this before, but I couldn't find any recent ones. With Brandon sometimes taking bits of his earlier books and putting them into newer ones, I know many people have scoured some of his unpublished works to try and find interesting pieces that Brandon might move into new books and make canon. So, if it's not top secret, people can post things they hope to see in future books that were in some of the earlier books. Even it's not top secret maybe we can just put spoiler tags. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with! EDIT: I just saw in that same WoB that Roshar was once thought of as a planet with three peninsulas drawn into war. Interesting to imagine how that would be if that was still how Roshar was. "I think this series could really make an impact on the genre" Oh 2004 Brandon, you have no idea.
  2. Welcome to the Shard and nice ink!
  3. I don't know about a new Oathpact, but I do believe the core KR(Dalinar, Kaladin, Shallan, Jasnah, Lift, etc) will be elevated to something greater than just surebinders and Radiant's. We have 7 books to go and the core peeps are pretty strong already, Dalinar and Jasnah particularly. I think they'll need to attain greater power in order to defeat Odium(their first full on confrontation with him could be what causes the 10-15 year gap between book 5 and 6). I think Cultivation will try to learn from Honor's and the old Heralds mistakes and attempt to create "Heralds 2.0" out of the core cast. I don't think there will be a full ten new Heralds, as we now know each Shard has a number that is significant to them and Honor's was 10. Meaning Cultivation has her own number, so that is likely the amount of people she will "power up".
  4. One of those repercussions is going to be his probable confrontation with Moash. The tension was already high enough before the OB scene. I really hope its in book 4.
  5. Mandatory upvote for cosmere meme. And I think OB holds the 2 best Kaladin scenes so far, as well as some other really good smaller scenes. Which is saying something because Kaladin's confrontation with Moash at the end of WoR is one of my favorite book scenes period. The scene with Kaladin attempting to stop his friends among the Singers and Wall Guard from killing each other was one of the best executed emotional scenes I've ever read. Elhokar being brutally killed by Moash and the Moash's salute to Kaladin was just absolutely gut wrenching. Kaladin realizing that sometimes it's okay to be the one being saved and protected and not swearing the 4th Ideal was one of the best parts of the books climax. On top of that, the Kaladin and Amaram fight was everything I hoped for. Kaladin's return to Hearthstone was awesome. Him taking his responsibility as KR in front of his people as well as his refrain from doing to much damage to Roshon was a really good piece of his character development. From him being terrified of telling any lighteye's about his powers in WoR, to him taking responsibility for his position and being honorable in OB. Pretty much every fight scene of Kaladin's was epic. His actions in Shadesmar and his recovery from the Battle of Kholinar was nice to read compared to the other story lines going on during the Shadesmar arc. My only complaint is that he was the same amount of depressing and self-deprecating as he was in WoR and WoK. But I feel he had better reasons to be those things in previous books compared to this one. I know he's grown a lot in other areas, but it just seems that even the smallest of triggers leads to a Kaladin dark mood in this book. That's only a small thing though, and next to Szeth and Dalinar, I think his POV's in OB are my favorite.
  6. Welcome to the Shard! We have meetings every other lunar eclipse on how best to implement hemalurgical spikes in today's society.
  7. I haven't seen that yet, but I actually hope that's the case. A new prologue event for the back 5 would be pretty cool.
  8. Could be Brandon alluding to the fact that Sazed views himself as maintaining harmony between two separate shards and not as single shard. His Intent could change over time.
  9. I personally don't think we're going to see Galivar's perspective until book 9 or 10. That's based more on a gut feeling than actual evidence. I think book 4 is going to be Sadeas. I think there will be a conversation between him and Gavilar as they wait for Szeth to reach them. I think book 5 is going to be Elhokar that will highlight his conversation with the Heralds.
  10. I agree. I've always thought of Shardplate as concentrated investiture that the Radiant pulls directly from the Spiritual Realm through the Nahel Bond in a way that corresponds with their order. Basically what you've already said. I also want to point out that when Syl is trying to get Kaladin to swear the 4th Ideal, we see some windspren start gathering around him. I don't think this is evidence of the windspren about to become Shardplate, I think it's evidence of the windspren about to help Kaladin draw in the the investiture to create the plate, acting as a conduit of sorts. I really wish Adolin would have been in his plate when he travels to the Shadesmar.
  11. Some things have been stated and we've gotten some little information regarding this topic but they involve OB spoilers, so you might want to ask this question in this forum. <----- Warning, this section obviously contains a lot of Oathbringer spoilers.
  12. There's this WoB on the subject: But I think he's also mentioned that Harmony could be split back into Preservation and Ruin, but it would take an intentional and direct effort.
  13. Welcome to the Shard, hope to see you around! If you're interested about all the lore of the cosmere, the easter eggs and statements made by Brandon, you might want to check out a few other sites that pertain to the cosmere and the fandom. Coppermind. Coppermind is the fan made wiki and is the largest collection of information about the cosmere and other Sanderson novels. It has an entry about pretty much everything and everyone we've seen so far. It's essentially a lore encyclopedia for the fans. Arcanum. Arcanum is an interview database. On Arcanum is all what the fans call Words of Brandon or WoB for short. WoB's are statements or answers Brandon has given about his works. Almost all of the WoB's, O&A's, and interviews Brandon has ever given are on that sight. A disclaimer though, nothing is considered fully cannon until it appears in a book. So when reading on Arcanum keep in mind that some things may change. We also have a Discord server. You can find the link and invite on the sidebar on the home forum index on this site. The Discord server is good for directly and instantly connecting with other 17th Shard and fandom members. It's also a good place for questions you may have and also for multi-faceted discussions. The sites are a really good read, and will most likely lead you down a rabbit hole every now and then. They're great ways to keep you occupied when you're waiting for a new cosmere book. Again, welcome. Hope this did some help!
  14. I just made a topic and this thought popped in my head. Sorry if this theory has already been said. What I think is the dreams that Dalinar get's that aren't sent by the Stormfather(the ending of WoR dream, Nohadon dream) and the hearing the voices of the dead as well as a voice saying "Unite them", are all examples of Dalinar inadvertently touching the Spiritual Realm. We know that the souls of the dead go to the beyond aka the SR, so instead of what Dalinar thinks of as pure guilt, it's actually him listening to the actual dead in the SR who he's gained a stronger Connection with by killing them. Dalinar receives dreams and maybe those dreams are given to him by someone through the SR where all things are own and can't be destroyed. Maybe the dreams are being sent by some being in the Spiritual Realm, maybe Honor or Adonal. Maybe the voice Dalinar hear's that says "Unite them" is Honor trying to speak to Dalinar from the SR and give him some form of power. What could also play into this is Cultivation's "pruning" of Dalinar. Maybe instead of erasing the memories in Dalinar's head, what she really did was sever his special connection to the SR. This disconnect is what caused the the voices to disappear not Dalinar getting his memories cleaned. She says that they will eventually come back and since we know Cultivation is decent at seeing the furture, maybe she saw Dalinar becoming a Bondsmith and becoming re-connected to the SR, where a lot the Bondsmith's power is. That's why Cultivation said this might be giving the enemy a weapon. She knows by getting rid of Dalinars guilt, it has the possibility of opening up Dalinar even more for Odium. She knows Dalinar might be capable of another Rift incident because he doesn't have access to his old memories and can't learn from his mistake. It would also make Dalinar more willing to embrace the Thrill. In WoK Dalinar get's sick from the Thrill, maybe this is Cultivation protecting him from turning back into the full Blackthorn and siding with Odium. Or maybe by the time he was starting to feel sick he was already gaining a tenuous Connection to the SR and that was giving Dalinar protection from the Thrill. Sorry if this is to rambling and not organized very well. I'm running on 2 hours of sleep lol.
  15. Hey, pals. I just finished my first re-read of OB. This time around I tried focusing on the significant events and their implications and I just want to make sure I got something right. Odium was able to "bond" the Thrill into Seades's soldiers because their souls were open for violence and vengeance. We see Odium saying it is possible to bond spren to man as spren bond to singers, it just has to be at the right time and place and with the proper spren. We also see Ash noting that it is a dark day because Odium has learned to bond spren to men and create his own storm. With that being said, here is my current view on what went down between Odium and Dalinar. By having Dalinar relive his past and Odium saying over and over that he'll take Dalinar's pain and burdens, Odium was trying to open Dalinars soul and heart to the Thrill so that he could use it to control Dalinar, make him a weapon. And by already agreeing to terms for selection of champions, Odium knew that controlling Dalinar and making him his champion he would also be "beating" Dalinar in the contest and was going to be set fully free. The other piece of advice Honor gave in the visions besides "Unit them" was the advice to attempt and convince Odium he can lose. By rejecting Odium and the Thrill, Dalinar showed Odium that he isn't right about everything and his plans aren't full proof and if that's case Dalinar showed Odium there is a possibility for him lose. Did I get that right, or am I making the wrong connections? Next and last thing. Dalinar and the Spiritual Realm. We know that when he created the perpendicularity, Dalinar touched the SR. What I'm not sure about is how many times he's done in the past. Is the dream he had at the end of WoR, the Nohadon dream in OB examples of him inadvertently touching the SR. At the coalition meeting right before Mr T dropped the bomb about the Highking and Dawnchat, Dalinar hears in his head someone saying "unite them" and the Stormfather doesn't know what Dalinar is talking about. This is builds a pattern because the Stormfather also didn't know about either of the dreams. Last thing, Dalinar here's the voices of the people hes killed just like Szeth, and when Odium touches Dalinar on the shoulder during the battle, Evi's voice was brought to the forefront. Is this an example of Dalinar touching the SR as well?
  16. Coppermind entry for context. Forgive me if this particular idea has already been discussed, I couldn't find any relevant topics with the new info we've gotten from OB. And this is more of a question for discussion than an actual theory. Plain and simple, did Odium influence the Vorin Churches attempt of a takeover which then led to the Hierocracy? In the Dalinar's chapter where he visits Fen in Thaylen for the first time, Queen Fen refers to "strength and passion" being the Vorin way. Now I know it's a stretch, but it's kinda a big coincidence when earlier in the book Odium refers to himself as the god of passion. We also know one of the biggest and effective ways to manipulate vast amounts of people is through religion. A religion that claims to speak directly to god even more so. I could see Odium trying to use the Vorin Church to meet some of his goals and gain some valuable tools. It also gives him the opportunity to mold the minds of the Vorin followers into anything he wants. The only thing that keeps me from fully believing this idea is that if it was Odium behind it then he completely failed. Not only did the church not succeed in taking over the world, they were also reduced to a shell of their former self. Now I could see that still being an upside to Odium, the current treatment of ardents. Realistically there the same as parshmen in the sense that now no one views them as anything but ardents, slaves. That could be another useful tool to Odium, using the ardents as spies and slowly spreading his will through the ardents without the ardents actually knowing. Religion is a powerful tool. Odium knows that the powerful people/beings on Roshar that are his enemies know he's "evil". So he uses the church to manipulate people into following him, or his altered version of his ideals, in order to combat the majority of people that follow his enemies. Sorry for the rambling. Thoughts?
  17. It's close between Harmony or Autonomy. With Harmony I would try to interpret the Intent into an Intent that seeks to bring harmony to all things, and I would try to use that to stop Harmony's instinct towards inaction. With Autonomy I just think it would be hilarious. Just trolling the other Shards and the planets I was invested on.
  18. Welcome to the RAFO club. We have t-shirts and decoder rings. Meetings are from 1pm est to 101 pm on every other winter solstice.
  19. The 17th Shard is the Singularity of said black hole.
  20. Welcome fully to the Shard. So other useful sites you may want to visit to expand your cosmere knowledge are Coppermind (The fan wiki for all things Sanderson) and Arcanum(a database that holds all questions Brandon has answered in interviews, tours an signings). There's also the 17th Shard Discord server you can join in order to talk directly and instantly to fellow 17th Shard users. I look forward to seeing you around!
  21. I didn't think of Axies, but I definitely agree. His interlude is one of my favorites. Not so much with Amaram. In my mind it just always seemed like he was putting on a front, the I read what Adolin thought of him and I couldn't shake it. But I can kinda sympathize with the things that were outside of his control and made things worse for him.
  22. Thanks for the clarification.
  23. I think it would still depend on how close to death the person is and if death rattles take place after or before the "beyond saving" point Nale mentions to Szeth
  24. When I read about Division and when Nale brought it up to Szeth my initial thought was that the Division surge could be used to "divide" other Surgebinders surges. Essentially cancelling them out. But I like this idea a lot more and it makes a lot more sense than my idea lol.
  25. I totally forgot about this. I can't wait for interactions with Lopen's spren and Syl. I agree. When she tells Dalinar that she doesn't trust him because of his butt, I lost all control.
