    WoB

Found this while browsing Arcanum. The only assumption I can make is that it's a reference to Adonalsium or one of the Shards creating all humans. It's mold of sorts. All nationalities must must all be known for a certain hair color, all nationalities must have a prominent eye color, etc. Has an answer been given yet, or is just speculation still? EDIT: Found the answer. It's a reference to the Shards that created life sometimes copying ideas from Adonalsium and possibly other shards.
  2. How Connected are the Shards to one another? In terms of how exact they can sense each others presence. Is the reason that everything is Connected and one in the Spiritual Realm because Adonalsium created the SR? As Adonalsium permeates all things, does that mean all things are Connected to Adonalsium, or at least the concept? When Wit and Dalinar are having a conversation in WoR wes ee Hoid more serious than we've ever seen him before. The text makes it clear that this isn't how Hoid/Wit normally acts. We know that the reason why Wit asked Dalinar about Adonalsium is because Wit thinks that Dalinar belongs to one of the secret societies on Roshar. Is that why Wit appears so serious, the fact that Dalinar knows stuff he shoudn't? Or is there another reason causing Wit's uncharacteristic behavior.
  3. I agree. I think the Voidbringers now realize fully that they have the numbers and positioning advantage. Other then them sending Fused to attempt to infiltrate Oathgates as the Kaladin and the others did in OB, I see the Voidies pressing the advantage and consolidating their power.
  4. I would give all the monies.
  5. So much yes. Even though I don't know how likely it would be now.
  6. I think the 10-15 year time jump in-world between book 5 and 6 will strongly benefit this dynamic. When book 6 starts it'll be interesting to see Kaladin in the "godfather" role for Oroden and Gavinor.

    Thanks, pals.
  8. Just emphasizing the fact that you could, in theory, surgebind on a different planet. Also in response to Alvron saying a bond might not work off world.
  9. I don't think he will. I just think that Odium has already made the agreement. He has to pick a champion. If he thinks Dalinar is a lost cause, he may try and manipulate one of the other KR. But I don't think it likely. He spent years trying to corrupt and mold Dalinar, and Odium also had the advantage that for most of his life, Dalinar had no idea of Odium's existence. With all the KR aware of Odium and his scheme's, I don't think Odium will try one of the main characters. However, there is still a decent possibility that Odium will still try to blackmail and manipulate the characters. Kaladin needs to protect people. Odium threatening the people of Kaladin's land as well as his family seems like a somewhat obvious move if you want to get at Kaladin.

I was reading the HoA annotations and came across this. Emphasis mine. I am apparently not a careful reader. Does anyone know what Peter is referring to here?
  11. It was also funny because Kaladin treated it as a "eye-roll" moment, asking Dalinar why him. The most likely thing I think will happen his Kaladin moving his family and loved ones there and being it's personal protector, leaving the day to day duties to his parents.
  12. Oh, I agree. I was just saying that there was some ambiguity in his answer, and a possible reason as to why. And I just now realized that the WoB I posted was from 2011. Before Secret history was published. The ambiguity is probably due to Vin's appearance in the book. Her same ending, just from a different viewpoint.
  13. There is this WoB that could shed some light. With Brandon not coming right and responding with "No, you will not see them again" it does leave things with some ambiguity. This also what he does when he doesn't want to e nailed down to answer because he hasn't decided yet. However, if we do in fact see them again, it could be in a flashback. Could be why Brandon gave the answer he did. Yes you will see them again, but they will have no further arcs, they'll be in other characters flashbacks or discussions.
  14. I just finished the part in my re-read where Dalinar gifts Kaladin his own land, land that has towns in it. I haven't seen this discussed, so how do you guys think this is going to play out? I think it would make for a nice side arc in book 4 and 5 with Kaladin setting up his land and trying to protect his people. I assume he will also relocate Hearthstone to his lands and it'll be interesting to see what happens with Roshone. I think it'll also be interesting to see how the land will look when book 6 comes out after a in-world time jump of 10-15 year. See how he's developed the land and how his people think of him. Highprince Kaladin anyone? Some random and wildly speculative ideas on what can happen with the land: Kaladin leaves the day to day operations to his parents, a step forward in equality between light eyes and dark eyes. Kaladin swearing the 4th Ideal in order to protect the people of the land. Get's turned into a backup HQ for the Windrunners. Kaladin is given leave to move the village of Hearthstone to his know lands, but he can't force anyone. His parents and brother go, but Laral and Roshone stay behind. Kaladin get's tips on how run his land from Highprince Adolin, resulting in expected and enjoyable banter. Odium gives up on trying to make Dalinar his champion. Instead he focuses on Kaladin and uses his land and people to manipulate him. Kaladin gives his lands to Adolin and the Kholin princedom. And last, but not least, Kaladin realizing that he'd make a right spiffy Highprince, uses his land to politically and militarily maneuver House Sadeas and take over his princedom.
  15. I can't find the WoB, I'm trying to search. But I'm 99.9% Brandon has said before that in the same way Nightblood can feed off both breaths and stormlight and Vasher substituting stromlight for breath, the same can also be done with the magic systems. IE, surgebinding being fueled by breaths.
  16. Welcome to the Shard, have an upvote. Which cosmere books have you not read yet. ***DISCLAIMER*** DO NOT EAT ANY COOKIES OBTAINED IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING MANNERS: As a gift from a fellow shard member. Laying in some long forgotten thread. Passed out for free from a person with spikes for eyes. From a person who keeps referring to themselves as a kite with a cut string. You've been warned. Don't lower your guard, they sense weakness.

    Harmony's Source

I was reading the updated cosmere page on Coppermind when read and was reminded of this quote from Harmony in the Words of Founding. Emphasis my own. Harmony is seeking to understand the scope of the cosmere which is obviously understandable. Has it been stated where he's getting his information from? The memories imprinted on Ruin and Preservation? Did he contact the 17th Shard or Silverlight? Has he had contact with another shard? None of these seem like they'd be the right answer. If the Ruin and Preservation did have memories I think they'd have more than just the name of what/who they used to be. Same goes for meeting a shard or secret society, they would have more information than that. The only other answer I could come up with is that he sent his kandra out to gather intel. We have this WoB so this could be the answer, but I just wanted to know if anything else has been explicitly said.
  18. Nale is one, but that's because I have a hard time actually seeing him as a villain for some reason. With the exception of Taln, Nale is the Herald that I most want to see return to sanity and join the good side. Odium. I know it's the easy answer but I can't help it. We've been waiting a long time to finally see him on-screen and it was totally worth the wait. I've said it before, most people pictured Odium as this character that would be some wild, hateful, barley controlled bad guy. Instead we get this guy that appears kindhearted and sympathetic. Then without even breaking stride he says or does some of the most evil and intimidating stuff we've seen so far in the cosmere. Not counting his "We killed you!" moment, Odium never let the mask slip. He never appeared angry or spiteful or prone to mood swings as many of us accepted him to be. He showed a portion of his true power to Dalinar and instead of making some evil boastful speech, he just treats it like he accidentally bumped into Dalinar on the street lol. Also, after his defeat and subsequent conversation with Mr. T, I was finally expecting to see the "true" Odium, for him to just be pure hatred and finally give meaning to the shard of hatred. Nope, just calm and compliments the man and subtly informs Mr. T that in every way imaginable he his better than him and his Diagram. I can't wait to see more of him in the future. I'm particularly looking forward to some character interactions with Odium. I think Jasnah would be the most interesting. She is so used to dominating the conversation, having the upper hand and feeling totally confident. I think that if she were to converse with Odium he would just gracefully and effortlessly make her feel like a child. My favorite interaction possibility would obviously be Hoid. From everything we know, i think this would be the situation were we just see full on hatred from Odium. My next one isn't the conventional antagonist per say, but I think it counts. Kaladin's "dark self". The person he became during his last days as a slave and first days as a bridgemen. When he was imprisoned in WoR and after he lost Syl. In OB when Moash killed Elhokar. Kaladin is Kaladin's own worst enemy and I think it's refreshing dynamic in a story with so many fantastical extremes. Last one would be Szeth from the interludes of WoK and WoR. With the exception of Kaladin losing Syl, I don't think I've ever felt as bad for a character as I did for Szeth when he was being passed from master to master. When ever he fought Kaladin I honestly didn't know who I wanted to win. And that is what makes a good villain in my opinion. One that breaks the mold and has that defined "grey" area of you wanting to hate or love him as a character. Ialai was a fun villain just because she got shut down at literally every opportunity by Navani or Jasnah. But I never saw her as an actual threat worthy villain, just comic relief.
  19. I had a thought that's not really a theory, but more of a possible idea that could make for some fun speculation. I'm not trying to convince anyone that the following will happen, I just want to see what you guys think it would be like for SA and the cosmere in this "what if" scenario. Instead of leading into it I'll just say it first. Odium being combined with the residual power of Honor by Dalinar or some other character in SA. I was thinking of possible "evil" shard combinations that would make for a really good villain in the future of the cosmere and that got me to thinking about just how could such a shard be defeated. Twist, turn, half a deep rabbit hole later, I tried coming up with a decent idea on how Odium could be defeated in a way that wouldn't go along with a classical "slaying the bad guy" trope and also creating interesting implications for the cosmere story line as a whole. I think a shard that combines Odium and the splinters of Honor would be fascinating to read. Would make for a really dynamic character as well as shake up the entire cosmere in terms of future plot lines. I'll bullet point errant thoughts that could provide some credence to this idea, but I'll be the first to admit that it's not much. The Dalinar arc is all about binding things and Unity. Dalinar uniting the Odium with the power of Honor to temper the evil intent could be feasible. They discover a way to kill the vessel(Rayse) and realizing that the shard is to dangerous, they combine it with honor it hopes that it will negate the threat. With Harmony and Dalinar's "I am Unity" line, it feels like Brandon is setting us up for more shard combos. A combination of a Shard and splinters of another isn't something we've seen yet. Of the known original 16 shards, 2 of them can be construed as "evil". Ruin and Odium. If we count the Survival shard, there are still 5 unknown shards(has it been confirmed if the Patji Shard is just a avatar of Autonomy?). I would like to think that of those 5, at least one or a combination of the 5, also have evil-like Intents. If you make this assumption, then the power of a "evil" shard(Odium) combined with the remaining power of a "good" shard would be a decent opponent against another evil shard. Especially if Harmony's inaction continues. In my mind such a thing would be a Sanderson-style twist. So, what are your guy's crazy ideas on if this happened?
  20. There's going to be some 36 Cosmere novels. We still have 7 SA books left, the Dragonsteel Series(though it's a prequel), and the final Mistborn trilogy. I don't think Odium will be the "final" villain for the cosmere. Of the 16 Shards, these are the ones we know of or have hints about: Devotion- Splintered by Odium, it's residual power part of the Dor. Dominion- Splintered by Odium, it's residual power also part of the Dor. Preservation- Now half of Harmony. Ruin- The other half of Harmony. Odium- Trapped in the Roshar system. Cultivation- Still active on Roshar the planet. Honor- Splintered by Odium, left over power and Dalinar doing weird things. Endowment- Still active Nalthis. Autonomy- Active on Taldain and most likely other planets. Ambition- Splintered by Odium, left over power doing some weird stuff according to some WoB's. A shard that just wishes to survive A shard that does not inhabit a planet, it could be the "survival" shard. If we count the "survival" shard as the one not inhabiting a planet, then that is 11 known shards. Not going to count the Patji shard recently mentioned as it most likely an avatar of Autonomy. That leaves 5 shards. I don't think it's a stretch to think that Odium isn't the only "evil" shard of 16. It could be a reasonably safe bet to assume that maybe one of the remaining 5, or a combination of them, will be the future villain in the cosmere. I could just be off my rocker, though.
  21. Do we know who it is that Brandon is referring to? I think think of anything off the top of my head. I like where you're going with that.
  22. So far most of the things that largely deal with the Spiritual Realm have their first letter capitalized, and this is particularly prevalent in OB(Connection, Fortune, Unity, etc.). Also we know from Ivory that during the climax the Three Realms were coming closer together, almost being one. I think the "Unity" is Dalinar bringing the realms together and thus summoning the perpendicularity, also "uniting" with Honor's splintered power.
  23. The particular Herald he's talking about in that quote is the Prime version of Taln.
