  1. First of all, you quoted my question so I feel very validated right now. I completely agree with the idea that the returned are basically fused because after all the returned are fused to a splinter as well. I think that vasher would do what a normal rosharan would do upon death ( unless some weird breath hacking happens and he pulls a kelsier which I doubt). As for why Nalthians never consume their breaths well breath is specifically designed as a method of investiture that can be given and held and so it "sticks" much more easily than stormlight when it's connected to a person- it's almost like saying why doesn't a metalmind leak, the investiture is bonded in a way that doesn't really happen on roshar because stormlight is a very hard form of investiture to contain. I think a nalthian would actually be worse at holding stormlight than a rosharan because they're more naturally invested and investiture repels investiture. You say that heralds don't seem to need a stream of investiture in the physical realm but there's no way to know that because they've always had a stream (from storms) apart from when they're in the cognitive realm in braize so it's altogether possible that they do. I'd steer clear of speculation when it comes to kelsier because he is the exception of exceptions- also scanning through the arcanum I can't find anything saying that threnody has any splinters of ambition (the most it says is that ambition was splintered in the threnodite system)
  2. I think this misinterprets the mechanics of nicrosil feruchemy- it says that it stores investiture in the ars arcanum but feruhemy is end neutral so you can't just make investiture with it so what that probably means is it stores the size of the cracks in the spirit web that allow investiture through and thus ability to manipulate investiture
  3. No celebrant probably isn't an honorspren city because all of the honorspren cities that have been confirmed have names like Lasting Integrity and Unyielding Fidelity
  4. Yeah I just think there was so much plot in Oathbringer that a lot of the background characterisation got really rushed
  5. The way I interpreted it was that she doesn't add or replace- instead she takes what is already there and corrupts that investiture turning it into odious investiture in almost the same process of changing investitures intent that hemalurgy uses( the investiture is "lost" but that can't be true because investiture can't be destroyed so it must turn the investiture into a different unusable undetectable form)
  6. Yeah the fused are definitely cognitive shadows- Brandon referred to them as such when I saw him yesterday. As for them being fused with voidspren this would fit in with that theory that radiants of the fifth ideal fuse completely with their spren
  7. That was almost gonna be my question but last minute I changed it. There were like 100 people when I got there but the queue moved quite quickly and it only took an hour but behind me the queue was snaking along corners so that by the end instead of telling people to go round the back the staff were telling us to go a few streets along to get to the end. I was so annoyed that they cancelled the reading but I do agree that the venue was a tad too small. Apparently my suggestion of Brandon standing on a nearby rooftop and shouting his gospel down from the heavens was "impractical" or whatever so the lady I talked to said that next time they'd try and get him a bigger venue. My question was I had so much fun today and I can't believe how long I've gotta wait til I do it again
  8. I don't think it ever says that odium needs to kill any amount of humans to leave- he just has to end the oathpact and is letting the fused follow their goal of exterminating humanity because it makes them good minions that he can use to defeat the heralds/honours representative and get them to free him. His trapped investiture he could reclaim at any point really by divesting the fused and the unmade, the problem is that even if he does that the oathpact stops him from leaving
  9. Well in the original WoB he says that eshonais thing is something that happening with roshar which means that eshonais thing can't be the cosmere wide spiritual realm thing that apparently is going on with Dalinar and Szeth. I'm still not sold on it just being the battle between the spren though. I'd say it's probably a cognitive realm thing then- time for another re read of the end of oathbringer to look for this elusive clue
  10. Ok on reflection I'm moving away from the idea that this is related to spren but what I'm thinking is- Dalinar keeps on mentioning throughout OB that he hears a chorus of screams and then so does Szeth and this could be just related to their natural guilt but combining it with the above WoB I'm now thinking that there is an unmade or something that amplifies guilt and makes you hear a chorus of those you have killed screaming- as the parshendi general eshonais certainly has killed at least hundreds of humans personally
  11. Well I think what he really wants is to have her on his side, without telling her about taln she wouldn't have given a damnation about him and without letting her go and see him she wouldn't trust him; as things stand she owes him
  12. Taking this one step forward, if cultivation did help sja anat with the corruption process then maybe together they could figure out a way to uncorrupt normal voidspren or even the fused, divesting them from their odious investiture. As well as that, it's not just one potential new type of radiant- it has the potential to create a new form for every order
  13. It depends on how it's done but I'm not particularly partial to this idea just because I think it would be too similar to Sazed and tbh with how scattered all the pieces are and how many have sentience re forming adonalsium would lead to a galaxy wide path of slaughter. If something like this happened the most likely thing imo is him balancing honour, Odium and maybe even cultivation and becoming like a Frankensliver
  14. Jasnah also wouldn't put up with Kaladins moral wavering like Dalinar did- to be honest I can only see her offering Kaladin the princedom if he swears to agree with her in all matters of foreign policy
  15. I think that maya especially would be very hesitant to bond with a human again after literally being dead and would want to get as far away from adolin as possible despite liking him because remembering being dead and used like a sword would probably be quite traumatic
  16. Yeah but, that would imply that Eshonai is straining their bond with stormform but I was under the impression that even though timbre was interested in eshonai they hadn't yet bonded ( if eshonai had said any Words or could draw in stormlight I have a feeling this would have been mentioned). Thus there is no reason for it to be timbre screaming and I'm still confused
  17. So I was browsing the arcanum when I came upon this dragonssleepinfire In Words of Radiance Brandon Sanderson Yes? dragonssleepinfire After Eshonai bonds the storm spren, she starts hearing this screaming voice in her head. Brandon Sanderson Yes? dragonssleepinfire Is that her voice? Brandon Sanderson Well, um… It is a combination of her voice and something that is happening with Roshar, and at the end of the next book you’ll get a big clue. Ive re read the ending of oathbringer a few times but I still can't figure out what he's talking about in this.
  18. Free investiture just means investiture that is not being directed by a mind- bits of shards don't randomly attain sentience while part of the shard because they have the mind controlling them. When devotion and dominion were splintered however, there wasn't a mind directing a lot of the investiture and so bits organically gained sentience to become the seons and the skaze
  19. Wasn't there an epigraph in the mythica where Hessi states that sja anat could only corrupt lesser spren, not radiant spren. When I took this into account I figured that mistspren are the lesser spren associated with truthwatchers and corrupting one of those made it sentient and allowed it to form a bond that mimics the real truthwatchers
  20. Well the honours investiture component is just the fuel for the system- it seems very plausible this could be hacked to use another Shards investiture as fuel or even that the Shard Shardworld interaction of Odium on the first planet ( if it's Ashyn then it makes even more sense because as part of the greater rosharan system it would share some sdna) resulted in a magic system that could access the surges without ever involving honour
  21. Also another thing to remember is that even though what we know as surgebinding is powered by honour the surges themselves are cosmere wide phenomena not linked to any one shard- that is to say any shardic magic system could tap into the surges it's just that honours is the one that does. Off hand this is the only WoB I could find that kinda works Questioner The ten Surges on Roshar, I think you've said are basically a different set of laws of physics. Brandon Sanderson Yeah. Questioner Are those laws of physics consistent throughout the Cosmere? Brandon Sanderson Yes, to an extent. You would consider, like - it's kind of weird because I based them on the idea of the fundamental forces, but this is kind of like a human construction. You could say that physics is pure and natural, but we're still putting things in boxes. And the scientists on Roshar would, for instance, consider being able to travel between the Cognitive and Physical Realms as a force, the thing that pulls people back and forth between that, as a fundamental force. I don't know if it would fit our definition of a fundamental force.
  22. No, when Honor grew unstable he started telling people that it was with the Dawnshards that Humanity destroyed their last planet so obviously they wouldn't have been on Roshar during the days of the dawnsingers
  23. Wait is it just calories that lift turns into stormlight or just food in general because if it's the latter and all the fibre and normally pooped out bacteria is stormlight ified - does Lift just... not .... poop?
  24. What I wanna know is its name and level of sentience- also I'm assuming it doesn't have nightbloods powers to potentially damage a shard
  25. I really like the idea that Odium made Dalinar try and kill Gavilar perhaps knowing that the one filled with bloodlust would be a better champion than the one who emotionlessly politicked. Personally I'm more of the opinion that the third bondsmith spren isn't a voidspren- which theory for what it actually is that I like better I can't decide. It could just as equally be pure honour (nightwatcher is pure cultivation and the stormfather when last bonded, before merging with honour could have been pure adonalsium as the rider of storms) or it could be a spren born of perfectly equal resonance between honour and cultivation that the shards saw as their (eldest) child seeing as they were lovers and lovers tend to want children. Yes, I'm torn but maybe leaning towards the second one
