  1. Just started this new series not too long ago called the Licanius Trilogy. It's actually pretty new. Book one, "The Shadow of What Was Lost", came out in 2016, book two, "An Echo of Things to Come", came out last year, and "The Light of All That Falls" is the third and final book coming out later this year. I'm at the beginning of the second book, and I've gotta say that I LOVE this series. One of its hallmark qualities is the worldbuilding. Definitely the worldbuilding. The character development and description of settings and conversations aren't as good, especially compared to Sanderson books, but still pretty good. But the PLOT TWISTS. OH, YES. It's like every single chapter, the story twists and turns in ways you wouldn't expect, yanking you deeper and deeper into the intricate folds of the story until you realize that you really started the first few chapters not knowing diddly-squat. The story and the world keeps getting bigger and never lets up. I like to put it this way: imagine the classic "Brandon Avalanche" that we always get at the end of a Sanderson book, where the story picks up and twists and bends everywhere and blows our minds, then have an ENTIRE BOOK do that. The entire story is an avalanche that sweeps you up before you know it and I love it. The author, James Islington, even stated that Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson's books inspired him to start writing fantasy himself, and that reading Mistborn was the catalyst that prompted him to actually write the series. I would HIGHLY recommend reading the Licanius Trilogy.
  2. Narrator Firerust interjected and somewhat calmly/furiously/politely/rudely demanded that the previous previous post be bolded in order to become canon and right the wrongs of the timeline. Edit: And was pleased by the change.
  3. Shalash didn't like the sudden plan change. So instead of busting up the statue of Kelsier, she busted up Kelsier himself.
  4. Sorry for double posting, but I just want to get more of these across because I feel like this thread is, unfortunately, being ignored. So this first song, "Noble Life", is meant to be basic background music for the balls Vin goes to in TFE. Now for a bit of a switch-up. I've decided to make some Era 2 songs as well, starting with "Wayne", a theme song for... well, you know. Steris, of course. And then this last one is... a sad one meant for a sad scene. "Frozen in the Ash and Snow" is for the scene in WoA when Sazed is searching through the dead on the streets of Luthadel and finally finds Tindwyl's frozen corpse. You are likely to get the fuller impact of this song if you listen to the "Sazed" theme above before this. Noble Life.m4a Wayne.m4a Frozen In The Ash And Snow.m4a
  5. Inhabited by zombified, albeit glittery and happy, nukular reactors. Nukular is not a typo.
  6. But the Lord Ruler defeated them with pickles made from Wayne's number sense. Page 101, yeet!
  7. Lucky for Mighty Monarch Donald Duck, he has a trusty silver robot designed specifically to combat shades and provide him with silverware.
  8. The Mighty Monarch was really Donald Duck, looking for marewill flowers to give to Daisy Duck. And for some reason, he wanted to conquer the universe too.
  9. And a goat sent from Vax came and ate the last of their socks.
  10. That makes me quite proud indeed. Here are a few moar songs: "First Encounter", for when Vin and Elend meet for the first time, and subsequently just the theme for the two of them and their relationship in general. Take note of its similarity to "First Waltz". And next up, of course, "Sazed". I hope this theme fits him. And last but most certainly not least, "Zane". 11. @little wilson Actually, I was hoping to find other Sharders who were UVU students through this in order to start a Sanderfan club within the university. You may have misunderstood my intention. Though thanks for info on the "BYU" club. Maybe I will do something about that.
  12. I now realize that I haven't changed my rank since coming back from the temporary Cleanstar title, so now it says "Firerust; formerly Firerust. Should I keep it?"

"Firerust; formerly Firerust". Darn quotations and not letting me edit that.

I'll keep it for now, I think.

  13. Unfortunately, whattheHoid was allergic to that love juice and it made her blind instead.
  14. But the tides turned when Butt's long-lost father, Bottom, returned home from his brief stunt in A Midsummer Night's Dream and found his dear son.
  15. Thank you very much, good sir.
  16. The title explains itself. These are all so far rough drafts of songs you are hearing, recorded directly by my phone from my electric piano, so their quality isn't the greatest and I have a few errors here and there. Hopefully, you will all enjoy it otherwise. (And hopefully, I can successfully upload them.) The song recorded on video, called the "Mistborn Suite", is meant to be a collection of themes for the first Mistborn trilogy overall. Next is a song I made, titled "First Waltz", is based on Vin and Elend dancing together for the first and only time of their lives in Hero of Ages. After that is a song made by request to take place during the scene in Final Empire when Kelsier fights Bendal the Inquisitor in the Square, tentatively titled "Fight Scene". And then a song to take place during what happens directly after it, with "The Lord Ruler's Arrival". Directly followed by a "Lament for Kelsier". There is a lot more where these came from, but I haven't recorded or saved them yet. But more is to come! I hope you enjoy! mistborn suite.MOV Vin and Elend Second Draft.m4a Kelsier vs Inquisitor.m4a The Lord Ruler's Arrival.m4a Lament For Kelsier.m4a

  19. So... I'll try not to repeat what's already been said too much, but... I like how the characters take time to sort of pause time and speak to the audience to show their thoughts before speaking to other characters. It's a nice theatrical touch. Concerns: there were a few grammatical and narrative errors here and there that I'm sure have been pointed out, and fixing up those little bugs will help improve the look of it and the ease of reading. And yeah, it seemed a bit too wordy sometimes, and I thought the dialogue was often a bit forced-sounding as well. It didn't feel real enough. I commend your use of the names of biblical characters to tell this story. I'm intrigued by it. I'm going to point out an issue I have with many things I've read, even some of my own works -- you have done a very good job of creating an interesting story with a very good premise, but the execution of said story is not quite living up to the story itself. Basically, it's not as well-written of a story as it could be, but the storyline itself as it is... is very good. I definitely commend you for that. Last and least: I'm both honored that you would consider me a creative mind in general and ashamed that it took me so long in getting to the point of reading this without having many good reasons for not doing so.
  20. I don't really have any experience with Odyssey, but thanks for the idea! I've been wondering what to do about the Surge of Illumination with this. Oh, yeah! Disguises! You can disguise yourself as an enemy (similar to becoming Boo Mario or something like that), but it only lasts for a limited time! And soul stamps will work to that same effect. Or, like you said, they serve to help with costume changes. Either works. I mean, Lightweaving, Soulcasting, and Forgery are all very different manifestations of Investiture, obviously, but since I'm trying to form the basis of a kid's game, these are extremely dumbed-down manifestations of the magic systems. Now I wonder how I might incorporate the Surge of Transformation, if I was to try that...
  21. Yes, @Wyndlerunner. Very much yes. To all of that. Also, Mario forms a Nahel Bond with his Luma, and Khriss takes the place of Rosalina. And @BitBitio, thank you for the terrific Sel and Nalthis ideas. Better than what I'd been thinking up for sure. And yes, the red star was the inspiration for the in-game Gravitation effect, so you're thinking along good lines there.
  22. Hey, this is for all you Sanderfans who also love the Mario games, especially Super Mario Galaxy! So this is Super Mario Galaxy, but it's in the cosmere. So instead of the Good Egg Galaxy or Honeyhive Galaxy, we've got Scadrial, Taldain, etc. This idea first came to mind when I was playing Super Mario Galaxy and was skating on ice in one section of the game, and it reminded me of Lift and her use of the Surge of Friction, or Slicking. So I thought: how about Investiture abilities become power-ups for Mario as he travels throughout the cosmere in the Urithiru Comet Observatory? So we start with the many "galaxy clusters", or main sections of the game Mario goes to get the Power Stars (I'm still figuring out how to tweak those to fit into a cosmere comparison). An entire section taking place just on Scadrial, across various parts of it: 1. Urteau (3 stars plus prankster comets) 2. Fadrex (3 stars plus prankster comets) 3. Hathsin (1 star) 4. Luthadel (3 stars plus prankster comets) 5. Kredik Shaw (a boss level in which you fight Lord Ruler Bowser) Another section taking place entirely across Roshar: 1. Shattered Plains (3 stars plus prankster comets) 2. Kholinar (3 stars plus prankster comets) 3. Yeddaw (3 stars plus prankster comets) 4. Purelake (1 star) 5. Thaylen City (a boss level where you fight Highlord Bowser Jr.) (I'm trying to figure out a third section that includes just Sel and Nalthis.) A collection of other main worlds: 1. Taldain (3 stars plus prankster comets) 2. First of the Sun (3 stars plus prankster comets) 3. Ashyn (1 star) 4. Threnody (boss level where you fight The Evil) And a secret bonus section where you go to the Cognitive Realm to find Power Stars: 1. Expanse of the Vapors (3 stars plus prankster comets) 2. Silverlight (3 stars plus prankster comets) 3. Damnation (1 star) 4. Shadesmar (boss level, but boss enemy undecided) The final level of the game can take place on Yolen or something. Now, for the power-ups. All Allomantic and Surgebinding ones have a time limit to using them. Pewter Mushrooms make you impervious to injuries and keep you at full health for a limited amount of time. Tin Mushrooms help you see in dark places or locate secret objects/characters for a limited amount of time. Iron Mushrooms allow you to pull on metal objects using point-and-click for a limited amount of time. Steel Mushrooms allow you to push on metal objects using point-and-click for a limited amount of time. Atium Mushrooms show what enemies and traps are about to do for a limited amount of time. Gravitation Flowers allow you to change your direction of gravity using point-and-click for a limited amount of time. Friction Flowers allow you to slide and glide freely on any surface for a limited amount of time. Division Flowers (aka Fire Flowers) allow you to burn objects around you for a limited amount of time. Breath Flowers (aka Tears of Edgli) allow you to bring inanimate objects to life to help you out, but has a limited amount of uses before running out. Sand Mushrooms allow you to move sand around to fight enemies or access higher areas, but expires upon contact with water. (Though this is counterproductive to sand mastery, so I should probably try to find another way around it.) Various other enemies include normal Goombas and Koopas on all the worlds, obviously, then Koopinquisitors and Koopa Koloss on Scadrial, Parshendi Koopas and Fused Koopas on Roshar, Boo Shades on Threnody (the Evil is Big Boo), and Dry Bones Skeletals on Sel. This list is subject to extension. And for prankster comets, which are mostly the same with one small difference. 1. Speedy Comets, which are colored red and give you a time limit to complete a level, 2. Daredevil Comets, which are colored orange and give you only one hit point instead of three. 3. Cosmic Comets, which are blue colored force you to race a Cognitive Shadow resembling yourself to a finish line. 4. Purple Comets, which require you to find 100 purple coins scattered about an area. 5. Aluminum Comets, which are grey colored and remove all Investiture-based power-ups from the level. I hope to put more detail into all of this and add on other things, but here it what I've come up with so far. Yeah, I know it's all very silly, but what do y'all think?
  23. I'm like a goat chasing cars: I wouldn't know what to do if I caught one! If you're good at something, never do it for goats. And I thought my goats were bad. Ah... the good goat, bad goat routine? Let's put a goat on that face! I'm a goat of chaos. I'm the goat Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs. Some men just want to watch the goat burn. Now there's a goat... All quotes supplied by The Dark Goat.
  24. Well, then... how 'bout an "Orem area Cosmere Club"? Anyone else on here going to UVU or lives close by? I say let's make this a thing! Maybe we should meet up or something at some point. I just want to make this a reality. I want to know people on the Shard both online and in person (so far, I only personally know Wyndlerunner and Box Turtle).
  25. Hey, so I'm coming in as a freshman to UVU, and I want to know if anyone else here is also a UVU student, so we can start a little Sanderfan club of our own! I saw there's one for BYU, but none for this terrific university! So I say let's start it! Who's with me on this? Update: By no means do I intend to be the head or founder of this group or anything. I mean, I'm a freshman. I'm currently just trying to instigate this. Because my access to the Shard is limited (almost nonexistent these days), I won't be able to respond to feedback or further discussion, even if I'll be able to read them via gmail. Like I said, I'm trying to be an instigator here. So I ask my fellow UVU students on here to come together and work to make this a reality! (Frankly, I'm surprised this hasn't been done already.)
