  1. If Yolen is hidden from all three Realms somehow, and sealed off, we might not see until towards the end of Dragonsteel after Hoid's origins...
  2. ...... Yes, yes he did. I can't believe I completely forgot about Ham D:
  3. Whoopsie, my bad, I forgot about that ^^; To be fair though, I could be completely wrong, and the fain might have changed dramatically since the Liar of Partinel chapters, so we're just as lost as they are. Brandon and Khriss might have just thrown that line in there to make all of us who've read LoP geek out and speculate.
  4. Don't forget Brandon has said the backbone of the Cosmere overal plot is gonna be Mistborn, Stormlight Archive and eventually Dragonsteel. So technically we CAN speculate on the grand story with what we know about those series.
  5. Try not to get too flustered if you're a newbie! I've only met Brandon once when he came to Liverpool, and I was a HUGE dork when I did, I couldn't think of anything to ask him besides where he got ideas from, and he was super kind, even saying I looked dapper in my work suit. One exchange went like this. Me - "Sorry, I'm just nervous." Brandon - "Don't be, you pay me to be able to work." Me - "I feel I don't pay you nearly enough." So yeah xD Just stay cool and enjoy yourself! And ask as many questions as you can! Like "Can sentient Spren (Or any Spren) be affected by emotional Allomancy?"
  6. If Optimus is in the Cosmere and known to a Radiant, I'm sure there's one out there somewhere XP If they're gaming fans there'll also be a set out there somewhere that looks like Solaire's armour, and if they're anime/manga fans there'll be one that looks like the cursed armour Guts wears in Berserk
  7. Anyone want to speculate on future oaths/ideals for the orders of the Radiants? I think it would be fun to try and guess what the characters might learn, and what they might go through to realise it. My idea for Kaladin is that his next oath will be a tough one for him, coming from him getting so badly hurt protecting someone that he can't save another. My guess is his self-sacraficing nature will make him leap in the way of an attack meant for Dalinar or Shallan or Renarin, and end up laying on the floor, Stormlight barely keeping him alive as the sights of someone/something are trained on Bridge Four, or someone else Kaladin was trying to protect... Kaladin will then realise he protected the wrong person instinctively, and took a hit badly, and his oath will be.... "I will protect... myself before all others. If I throw my life away to save one, I can't protect any more."
  8. Brandon DOES have a tendency towards happy endings, and he's put it in his own words that he wants to write about the kind of stories he wants to read, about characters being heroic despite the circumstances. That's not to say that his stories have all had happy endings, of the original crew in Mistborn, only Breeze and Spook lived to see their world flourish, not counting Sazed and Kelsier, who are in a bit of a different category. Hell, in Secret History we even know that Dockson died cursing Kelsier, and from the state Fuzz was in at that point, and Kel being trapped, I doubt Fuzz took the time to tell Dockson anything comforting about the Survivor before he was pulled to the Beyond. Of course, Brandon does love to push himself in new directions as a writer, and to confound and surprise us. He's written stories with more struggles and darkness and challenges for the protagonist than he did in Elantris, characters with more problems and who are more broken and have more to overcome, and as of Alcatraz and the Dark Talent (with the exception of the TRUE ending there, which I won't spoil), departed completely from his typical resolution/cliffhangers to write one of the bleakest, darkest, most unexpected turns I've seen in a while, one that legitimately surprised me and made me think "Wait, wut. B.... Brandon, you.... you can't do this! This isn't what you write!" and I absolutely love that he did it. Brandon has also stated that he's worried that the Stormlight Archive runs the risk of turning into the Avengers, with everyone from all the other series popping up and influencing the plot too much. He wants the main Shardworlds to all have their own self-contained stories while tying into the plot of the Cosmere, and his first priority is to make sure that SA is an epic in and of itself. So I might guess that if Roshar DOES survive, it'll be down to the struggles of everyone to fight Odium, which ends up with them banishing him from Roshar, saving themselves.... but inadvertantly releasing him to plague the rest of the Cosmere, which would be dealt with in future books in other settings and times. So while I can see the worry that Roshar WILL survive Odium somehow, and I wouldn't say it's completely unfounded, I'm not going to place my bets on anything at this point.
  9. Dragons are one of the three races on Yolen, so Frost is at least FROM Yolen, and since we have confirmation that Taldin has been sealed off somehow, we know planets can be blocked from worldhoppers by a Shard who knows what he's doing. I'm fairly sure we have WOB somewhere that Yolen has been "hidden" if I remember the term correctly, so possibly quarantined due to the Fain life trying to spread beyond the planet?
  10. Jasnah at the start grated on me a little bit, simply because she came across so callous with regards to belief and logic. As an agnostic/athiest myself I do absolutely ADORE her completely true attitude of "Dude, believe what you want, I need evidence, and I don't care what you believe as long as it doesn't hurt anyone, or gets shoved down my throat.", but at the start Jasnah did appear to be almost a logic-bot with her beliefs, that she needed hard logic and thought behind morality, at least with regards to Shallan and her development. I do realise that that was a tool to make her consider her beliefs and put her in a more scholarly mindset, but at the same time I did kinda want to say to her "You already explained you believe morality isn't defined by a higher power and is intrinsic to one's self... if it's that internalised and understood does it NEED a logic behind it?" ^^; And Vivenna, I actually don't remember how I reacted to her when I first read Warbreaker, because it was that long ago.... but I think she annoyed me at first too. That being said, on subsequent rereads, I've actually enjoyed her sections quite a lot, mainly because I've found her oblivious condescension absolutely hilarious and adorable. I just imagine her giving her rhetoric and sanctimonious looks of disdain to people, and snide remarks, and them just looking at each other with mild amusement and befuddlement as she turns away, self-satisfied. In fact, now that I think about it, it's kind of the opposite of what happens with the Wheel of Time women for the most part, where everyone aside from a few who take no talking down and arrogance, bow and scrape and apologise and accept their beratement and judgement. In Warbreaker, nobody really cares what Vivenna thinks, and even say to her face they don't care for her judgements on what they've had to do to survive.
  11. Yeah, when you really step back and think about it, Dumbledore can really be.... kind of awful. But so can a lot of plot points in Harry Potter, to be fair. It's just that big D could pretty much have remedied all of them with a bit of foresight and thought. My favourite summary of the HP series is; Everyone: HARRY NO Harry: HARRY YES Anyhoo, my least favourite characters to read..... Across the Cosmere; Elantris - Sarene was just a bit boring to me because what she was doing was nowhere near as interesting as the other main characters, but she wasn't a pain or chore to read, she just happened to be my least favourite. Mistborn - The first couple of times I read Mistborn, I found Sazed's struggles in the later books annoying to read, but just a couple of years later I empathise with them a lot more and appreciate his struggles. I don't really have a least favourite in the original trilogy, but in Era 2 it would definitely have to be Marasi. In AoL, I found her role to just be tedious to get through and her character annoyed me, though much less in SoS and BoM after she had some growth, though once again, she's my least favourite to read in those, simply because Wayne is much more fun (with a few exceptions), and Wax does what needs to be done, which is always great to see. She's an interesting character and I enjoy reading her and her viewpoints, but ultimately, the others just grab me more and I look forwards to reading them more than her. Stormlight - I'm starting ot think that I don't like indecisive characters, since Adolin's constant worries/chafing over doing something and not wanting to confront Dalinar are just tedious after a while. When he's actually duelling or being active, like protesting when locking himself up with Kaladin, I enjoy reading him a lot more. Shallan annoyed the crem out of me during her time in Karbranth, and even on the ship heading to the warcamps, her attitude and mannerisms just irked me. She got a lot better once she GOT to the warcamps, and actually started playing a role in things, but even then some of the times I find her tedious. Nowhere near the levels of WoK though, where slogging through her chapters was a chore to get back to Kaladin and Dalinar's awesomeness. Wheel of Time Egwayne. Nothing more needs to be said. Nyneave was annoying as hell for a long time, but actually improved when she stopped being so sanctimonious and hypocritical, and was actually called out on something. Elaidah I didn't mind reading, since I knew she'd eventually get some kind of comeuppance, and the thought of her being chained by the Seanchan was soooo satisfying. Cadsuane. Uuuuuuuugh, Cadsuane. I know she was designed as the character who was "the aunt who said what you needed to hear, but might not like what was said", but she could be downright INSUFFERABLE. It doesn't make her character any less annoying when she's never given any real moments of comeuppance or actually being wrong. She was interesting at the start as a character who took none of Dark Rand's posturing and threats, but as the books progressed, aside from some awesome moments, I just wanted someone to smack her and take her down a peg. The most satisfying moments of the final books was Tam being awesome and actually taking no Aes Sedai rhetoric and condescension when he confronted her, and when Rand banished her at the start of Crossroads of Twilight. Seeing her actually panic and on the losing and of something with him, and actually scared was a VERY nice moment that brought some variance to her character. Perrin and Dark Rand could drag on quite a bit with their mantras of "I must be hard" and "Faiel" respectively, but in all honesty I never minded them anywhere near as much as most did. GRRM and the tunes of frost and flame (Been a while since I've read the series so there won't be much fresh in my head) For a loooooooong time Sansa was my least favourite character to read, and just got on my nerves since she's quite literally the reason Ned died. >__> Cersei is one of the characters I love to hate, while her satanic offspring was teetering on the edge of that and just outright being horrible to read. That's all that come to mind at the moment...
  12. True, but it's still nice to have a defined term for a planet with more than one Shard overseeing it. And yeah, I got a little carried away there... but I did say WAS, so to try and turn that slip of the tongue into an awesome idea, perhaps Silverlight was a spaceship/spacestation from one of the Pre-Shattering human planets, and upon the Shattering, was blasted into a planet, or into the Cognitive, or even Spiritual Realm, embedding itself there and becoming a city.
  13. Well now. This. Is. Iiiiiiiiinteresting. So the existence of fain parts of Yolen is still canon, amd the size and gravitation of both Yolen and Scadrial are the standard for the Cosmere. I wonder if there are planets with increased gravity, which will have humans with higher bone and muscle density to compensate. New term coined! Dishardic.... so this would encompass Sel before the splintering, and does that make Roshar Trishardic? So humans on every other planet predates the arrival of Shards.... though she doesn't specifically say "planets", but "places". I wonder if an off-world settlement happened before the Shattering? Perhaps Silverlight was a space station from one of those planets with humans that predate the Shards. Interaction between societies.... This makes me squee so hard. It implies that in Silverlight, we will already see the mingling of cultures between Worldhoppers. Terrismen showing people from Sel the colours of their robes, Forgers creating silver for Threnodites to take back and make a profit on, Sand Masters refining glass and other silicates for Fabrials.... Silverlight is going to be a hodgepodge of the Cosmere and I am so excite.

  15. I always took the "Thank you" to just be to the universe/Cosmere in general, perhaps the Stormfather/Almighty, for giving him something he understood, something he could fight. It seemed directed at fate and Eshonai more than anything else to me.
  16. In one of my many RPs with my friends, I came up with a way to mimic Lashings/Pushes and Pulls in a couple of sci-fi settings, using complete gobbledygook and soft magic rules. One was a belt with an electromagnetic buckle that connected to darts that fired from a special gun. The darts would fly out, and two seconds after the prongs impacted/embedded something the charge would activate, and depending on if you fired a repel or attract dart, they would be drawn to or repelled from your centre of gravity, or you to/from them if the object was heavier than you. The other was like the handle of a whip, moulded to fit the hand of the user, with a button for the thumb to press and slide up and down a small groove, as well with triggers under the fingers. It was a magnetic leash, using essentially a beam of magnetism to tether you to a point opposite the top of the handle. You would aim the top at something metal, and engage the leash, tethering you to that point on an invisible, intangable coil. The button/slider was a throttle, controlling how much you were attracted to something, allowing my friend's character, a corporate espionage agent, to lower himself down from a metal roof slowly, and then attract himself back up to his spaceship as it flew by, dangling in the air behind it like a kite on an invisible string, reeling himself in by pressing the throttle up more.
  17. Haha, thanks! Glad you liked it! ^-^ I'm sure it can be expanded upon by more intellegent/verbose members of the Shard In my mind it's less like the Spren of an Armour, and more of a Super Spren of an Armour, depending on how things work in the Spiritual Realm And if Shallan tried Soulcasting it, I imagine if it was in sections it'd be more like "I AM A BOOT."
  18. I think you have a point with their being a unique aspect to the Plate, but I'm not sure that it's simply Cognitive... I recall Brandon mentioning about the Spiritual Realm, there being "perfect", idealised versions of everything, he specifically mentioned there being a ideal version of "fire", if I recall correctly. This makes me wonder if the Shardplate isn't an idealised version of armour itself, pulled through from the Spiritual Realm by the Spren/Nahel bond somehow? Some Cognitive shenanigans would explain how each armour looks different, it's each person's idealised armour, and how they fit themselves so well, and how the plates interlock beneath. It's mentioned quite a few times in WoK how it's the "perfect armour" as well.
  19. Been tempted to reread the Superior Spider-Man series, because it's SO much better than that idea had any right to be, and if anyone out there has never read it and wants to, make sure you read Amazing Spider-Man #698, #699 and #700 first! I HIGHLY recommend it if you're a Spidey fan! On the Audiobook side of things I've been listening to Mogworld and Jam by Yahtzee Croshaw, and after listening to them twice each, I'm now onto The Waking Fire, by Anthony Ryan, a very fun book filled with corporate intrigue, magic, and dragons.
  20. Once I've beaten Xenoverse 2 properly (I'm like three/four story missions away from the end), I think I'm gonna try and make some progress in Dark Souls before I get swallowed up by Pokemon Sun and Moon... I've beaten Dark Souls II and III about six/eight times each with multiple builds, but I just CANNOT get past a couple of points in Dark Souls I.... I've got two builds at the moment, one that's been completely and utterly walled by Seath the Scaleless, and another one that I restarted to play everything through again after returning to the game after months, to refresh myself. That one is currently being thwarted by Senn's Fortress.... >_> I beat that in one attempt on my other build, this time I've been crushed by boulders about twenty times....
  21. I personally suspect that Kel is the founder of the 17th Shard, and created it just to track down Hoid after finding out more about him. It would easily explain why Demoux is a member of it after all, and the idea of Kelsier going on a Cosmere-wide recruitment montage is such a fun image in my head ~
  22. Done. The secrets of the Cosmere, the building blocks of the fandom, are all revealed to you. The secrets of the 17th Shard, the goals of the Ghostbloods, the hopes of Hoid, you know them all instinctively. You can predict with certainty the plot twists and crossovers of every book in the future, the verbal banter between Shallan and Lightsong's Cognitive Shadow, the tawdry romance between Jasnah and Shai, the fistfights between Kelsier and every Vessel's cheek, the big tap dance contest between Kaladin and Wayne, you can see it all years, nay, decades in advance. Your bane is that you can't pick and choose what spoilers you see and remember. You can never forget the plot twists that will be in each book, remembering them as freshly as the first second that you read them, and you are compelled to read EVERY spoiler and note that's added, as it's added. You know every major event that will happen in a book before you read it, and can't forget as you lose yourself in the writing, anticipating it to come, lessening your enjoyment of the book as you aren't surprised by something unexpected. My wish is.... to be able to read Brandon's future books all ahead of time, thanks to some hole in space and time that drops the entire Cosmere collection in my lap from decades now
  23. My current idea for today literally popped into my head like five minutes ago.... naming a weapon, a sword in a fantasy setting, or a superweapon of some kind in a more modern one, "Starvation", just so a character can say someone was killed by starvation when they've been stabbed. I know this has almost CERTAINLY been done before, but it amuses me. And I just had another idea based on what my co-worker just said, which was (Very British language ahead) "I can't stand the thought of heaven. All those hundreds of thousands of people who've died before ya. Imagine how chokka it would be!" which made me laugh at the thought of an overpopulated/overcrowded heaven XD
  24. Hmmm.... Sudden thought about the Ones Above. What if they're Elantrians, more specifically the IRE? They could still be trying to steal a Shard from another planet, and having access to a magical system that isn't connected to/derived from an existing Shard would be a big help in that. Especially if they know about the Atium-like effects of the birds on Patji... There were no signs of Aons on any of their technology as far as I recall, but that could be just so it doesn't give the identity away, and they could have progressed to the point where they could use microscopic Aons like microchips in technology. Of course, would the Aons work off planet, so far away from Elantris and the Dor?
  25. I believe that the Ones Above from Sixth of the Dusk will turn out to be Elantrians, more specifically the IRE from Secret History. The lack of Aons in their technology is to not give away their identity instantly, and to show that they've progressed to the point that they can draw them on a microscopic level. This is based entirely on the Ones Above's apparent determination to get the magical birds from First of the Sun, a magic system not controlled/derived from any Shard. I suspect this is so they can make another attempt at stealing a Shard from another planet, especially if they actually know about the Atium-like predictions that the birds on Patji produce.
