WoK excerpts These are the biggest support to we know how it ends and it's not great for the heroes. @Solant @Diomedes It's not ironclad, but the Deathrattles seem terrifying for Rosharans.

[OB] Justified racism on Roshar and elsewhere
Naurock replied to Llarimar's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've mostly noticed that his religions often have members like Monks, Nuns, solely to serve the population. Warbreaker: Idrian church has members solely to do jobs that no one else wants to. Even states that if a husband dies and he was the provider of the family the church sends a guy to work and provide money for the family. Stormlight: Alethi Vorinism Ardents are there to do essentially whatever the owner wants them to do. Sparring partners, plant seeds, listen to the families prayers and provide guidance towards their calling. Aether of Night Church: Pray (on commission) on a church member's behalf. Also, Vo-Dari sending is useful to the public. I'm sure Skaa churches had something, Sazed had outlined some massive number of religions he'd studied. -
[OB] Renarin and Adolin (healing wrist scene)
Naurock replied to Sun Maker's topic in Stormlight Archive
It seems very similar to Shallan's ability in WoR to augment her pictures for people or Elhokar in OB. Also, how she talked Gaz and crew into being better. Like she glimpsed into the Spiritual Realm for these people and brought it to them. -
@I think I am here. It is fascinating, but I think it would only work on a few worlds. Taldain, any world that Autonomy has Invested in, and with some hacking, Roshar and Sel. If they found some species of bird/Aviar that could replicate Steel, Iron or Tin you can keep that away from me. That would be super annoying to be unable to turn it off.

Yes, Nightblood is heavier than expected. There's lots of factors here, and a major one is as @Yata points out Cosmere Aluminum is stronger than Earth aluminum. But even if we're going by the above phrase, a regular longsword according to this website, is... If a regular sword is less than 3 pounds anything even a pound more is going to feel substantially heavier. So I feel we can resonably assume Nightblood weighs maybe 5 pounds at most. My point is that there is a difference between swinging a weapon fast and swinging a weapon hard. To this point in OB... So, I really don't believe Szeth, who we've already seen demonstrate a lazy swing, was swinging for force; just speed. I am not shocked the sheath blocked the attack.

It seems very specifically worded to be only Nalthian magic. But useful considering that Vasher would sneak around by investing his clothing so he wouldn't be able to be detected by others.

Proposed new title: 7 Cosmere Tricks that will blow your mind! You won't believe number 5!

I'm pretty sure the Honorblades are considered Splinters as well. Brandon describes them as pieces of Honor's soul, and gave the wielder direct access to his essence.
-
So Spren are literally tiny pieces of Investiture. What if Odium created a splinter specifically with a mandate to corrupt and collect himself more free Investiture? He can probably already sense his own personal Investiture in the Spren, but maybe by corrupting them they become entirely his to use. What if he's trying to slowly climb higher? I understand this is a slow task, but he is stuck in the Rosharan system anyways due to the Oathpact. Why not make use of the time by assimilating more Investiture for his own use?
-
Dang!
-
So, what you're saying is Taravagnian will openly swear fealty and his people to Dalinar. Attempt to manuever himself to find a work around but die of old age in the climax. Thereby negating the deal between Odium, removing his influences, and unifying a very large portion of Roshar under a single rule.

Yeah, I was bound to mess up some names/titles. Ferrous bonds could absolutely be an interesting magic system, but it just wasn't expounded upon. It almost seems like these people are so "Devoted" to society that they choose to give up their life for societies better good. I find it interesting that they've been warring at the border, but these Ferrous don't become machines of war, like tanks or anything of that sort. No, Brandon has not said Koloss came from Gol, that is something I drew. I shouldn't have said it so conclusively like that.
-
I'm pretty sure it was, also. Shardpools before Brandon knew what Shardpools were. He's cannibalized this story for almost all Cosmere stories. Gol => Koloss Amberite Aether => Shards in SA Slaughter & Despair => Ruin/Preservation I remember there were other things too, I just don't remember. I want to reread it, I really enjoyed it. But I just don't have the time.
-
Absolutely, but he asked. Is there anything I should add or change, in your opinion?
-
There's several types of bonds that can be created. Bestarin, Ferrous, Verdant, Aedin, Vo-Dari, and Night. The whole magic system is based on family lines. Bestarin, Aedin and Night are tied together, same for Ferrous, Verdant and Vo-Dari (Light). 1) Bestarin are people that are wounded in battle and have had body parts replaced by animal parts. 2) Aedin are given gemstones that are bonded to their palm. From this they are able to create weapons and armor. Think Shardblades, Shardhammers and Shardplate. 3) Night is directly from a Shardpool. It allows sudden transport for the user (think Apparating from Harry Potter universe) and also supplements Amberite bonds, which wasn't known. It also allows the user to manipulate shadows/shadow beings. 4) Ferrous are people that bond to create some machine for society, elevators, giant Walker machines. It's not explained very well. 5) Verdant also have gems embedded in their palms, and they can create food/create vines to tie in combat. 6) Light is used by the chosen priests for Sending. Again, like Harry Potter Apparating, but someone does it for/to you. I wish I could explain it better, but it's been a bit since I read it and some of the magic is not explained super well.

[All Series Spoilers] Interlinked theories - Aether of Night
Naurock replied to Ixthos's topic in Aether of Night
Honest question here, why can't he just create an Amberite arm? Using a Kandra/Mistwraith as a Bestarin bond seems like a super hack of the system but +1 to the outside the box thinking! Talk about handy, just keep a bag of bones around the house, and you've got a fix for just about anything! -
What I find funny is she tells them she can show them how to make another sword. But she'll just explain, hey you need a ton of Breath, something you can't get here. Also, Spren are locked to Roshar from what I understand. So good luck getting the required materials.

Ok, well you guys have convinced me. Nightblood is made of Beyondium. It has been Invested to the point of being a perpendicularity. Everything he touches is forcibly sent there.
-
I had a very similar thought process. I don't see Eshonai and Venli as interchangeable either.
-
Fair enough, but from what I've read it does seem possible. I've accepted that it's not what's happening. But I do understand why people interpreted it this way. Appreciate the work, I do enjoy the show. It was a particularly fun episode to listen to, and looking forward to @Overlord Jebus making the video.
-
Guys, I know Brandon has provided a WoB saying Eshonai is dead and gone, but I'm not sure why you hate on the theory Timbre was Eshonai, especially saying it's not how any of this works. I read Way of Kings a few times. I've since read Oathbringer three times. I read Words of Radiance once (I plan on doing a reread soon). I completely missed that Timbre followed around Eshonai. It did cross my mind at first Timbre could be Eshonai. Later in the book I realized it wasn't. But I had thought for a bit that Eshonai had an extreme will to not pass to the beyond and was then infused with Investiture to stay. I later dropped the theory because I couldn't explain to myself how it would make her a Radiant Spren. Fused are cognitive shadows. They're original Singers so angry at humans that they want to eradicate them, and Odium suffused them with Investiture to allow them to continue their fight. Fun episode. I didn't read Venli that way but I found the way @Overlord Jebus read of her very funny and actually kind of true. I agree that @Chaos says Odium wants the Envoy to be smart, articulate, and having a story the listeners could rally around but I'm not sure why he would want her to be a Radiant. I think he only wanted her because he saw her "Passion" to return the Gods and eradicate humans, so he sent Ulim to help guide her. So now Envoy form is how he repaid her. Fun episode, and just an off the wall question what kind of sound file do you guys upload this as? I've been experiencing issues listening, may need to change my podcast app player due to these issues.

Because it's fun to speculate that he used the surge of abrasion to escape from the manacles.
-
This speculation thread you provided is actually the exact quote I remember. So it wasn't a WoB. My bad, everyone. Thanks @The One Who Connects

Yes, I've seen these. I searched the Arcanum for several tags related to Heralds and Honorblades. I swear I saw someone post this WoB after WoR was released. Maybe they conflated Nightblood because I'm not sure it was a direct quote. It was a long time ago.
