What are your holy rights? Draw a Glyphward and burn it? Chay-Shan? Glad I wasn't around while you performed Jeskeri Mysteries rites...

If I recall correctly Vasher said yes, a Returned could have children but alluded to it being difficult (Maybe a Returned giving up their breath to the God King to fix anything that happened to the body preventing this?). I also think Bluefingers told Siri that the Priests use the a baby is returning as a sign that the God King's reign has come to a close and a new one needs to take the throne. I believe Bluefingers tipped Siri off that Susebron dies and asked her to inquire about it. The Priests told Siri about this "retirement island", but I'm quite certain it was a lie to placate her about her worries of Susebron dying. Much has probably been forgotten since the 5 Scholars and I think they held pretty tightly about how to give only the amount of breaths that they want to give. I'm sure, like you are, that Susebron would die just like Lightsong did. Also, I don't think the Priests know how to suppress a Divine Breath, so they wouldn't teach him how, and he would still needs breaths to survive afterwards. Like Vivenna told Vasher, he's expensive to keep around.

Dalinar said it when he sucked in stormlight and asked himself if he's been doing it all this time. Stated the feeling was familiar.

Thank you for the WoB. But again, I never inferred Kaladin was not suited to be a wind runner. It's quite obvious to me how unusual of a character and how intense his protective nature goes. I've seen a few posts around here stating how they find Kal's POVs annoying with his underlying biases hard to go through. I enjoy his POV's the most, other than Wit/Hoid in the last chapter. Kal has put himself in quite the hard positions at times, and his story is most interesting to me. I've seen a lot of posts on here of people asking if Edgedancers is even the order most suited to Adolin, but I don't post on those because I don't know enough about the rest of the orders, which is why I refrain from speculating there. I only said Adolin could progress faster because some people think he's a fantastic proto-radiant for them, that is all.
-
I have not seen the WoB you're speaking of saying Adolin would need to speak oaths, I'm sorry. Is there a link to this? If this is the case, I can see why Brandon said it would be near impossible to revive a spren because how would someone form a Nahel bond and speak oaths to a spren with a broken mind. But I didn't say Kaladin progressed slowly, I just said if Adolin was suited to be an Edgedancer, maybe he progresses faster.
-
Why would he have to speak Oaths to unlock the blade? Kaladin didn't need to speak any oaths but was still able to form a bond with Syl, and start subconsciously using stormlight to heal and improve his stamina/fighting abilities. Maybe by Adolin curing the spren's insanity and "unlocking" the spren's form he would lose it's ability to transform to a blade until oaths are spoken, but gain surge abilities through a Nahel bond. If Adolin was so suited to be an edge dancer and cured a broken spren he could maybe progress through the oaths faster than Kaladin has, because Kaladin had to have the character breakthrough to understand why he lost Syl and what protecting means.

This is a fantastic question! I'm not the most equipped to handle this question but I'll hazard a guess it has to do with the WoB about how when Nightblood hits something it erases it from all 3 realms. This must take a lot of energy to do. I hope someone else can lend a solid answer to this.

This and with how well Brandon writes his villians, Odium will seem crazy likeable and probably extremely persuasive. @bleeder Maybe the Cosmere will, but not on Roshar. If his force was shattered and left there for his intent and Investiture to take hold Roshar would be even more uninhabitable and crazy. Roshar won't be decent until Odium is repelled and barred away or Adonalsium is reformed. @nervousnerd Thank you for covering that with @jofwu's WoB.
-
So there's been a lot of speculation here about how the Radiants could defeat Odium, naming a champion and all. But what happens if the humans win? Would that cause Odium to die and then shatter on Roshar? What would happen if Odium had his power/intent added to Roshar? Would they become a totally warring world, nonstop? Or would someone have to pick up his shard and take it elsewhere since he hasn't invested there? Could Cultivation pick up Honor and Hatred's shard pieces and form a new intent?

I don't think Nightblood would be corrupted by the Everstorm. To me Nightblood always had a very simplistic mind, and so with his command, I'm not really sure he could be corrupted. I think he just absorbs/destroys everything he can and the type of investiture doesn't matter. I am curious though if Nightblood will just finally hit a max point of absorption and we will see him... transform?... for lack of a better word. Maybe become even more like a spren/shardblade and drop the "robot" part, gain the ability to be dismissed like a shardblade and a more evolved mind than his blunt ways of lets go kill stuff!
-
So why exactly is Nightblood so stupendously overpowered?
Naurock replied to kroen's topic in Warbreaker
I think all the "dead" shardblades may start becoming a diminishing resource if shardbearers start fighting against Nightblood. If we get another fight of Kaladin and Szeth in a highstorm it could be even more insane than before. Problem is, I think Szeth was just pointed back to Shinovar by Nale, unless if he has more pressing jobs for him back in Urithiru or elsewhere. -
Or the fabrial used to resurrect him.

Which characters will be more/less important?

Venli -
Eshonai didn't discover the new forms, her sister Venli did. And Venli may have some terrible new parts coming because she is showing to be exceedingly evil. More forms, more plots, more ways to save her race. In all reality Eshonai kept her in check by urging for more time to talk to the Blackthorn, pushing and encouraging the Parshendi to discover more spren to bond with like creation spren. With Eshonai MIA at the bottom of some chasm, Venli now can lead the leftover Parshendi to do whatever her plans were. She's clearly onto something because she refused to answer Eshonia's questions about where she got the spren to make Stormform.

Collection of all information involving Arsteel and Yesteel
Naurock replied to Aliroz-The-Confused's topic in Warbreaker
I like the theory of that's why Vasher is there, but from what I understand he can't awaken anything on Roshar, he can infuse himself with investiture to sustain himself but using it is a different story. I'm unsure if he can use any surges while there. Hoid is the only one with abilities wherever he goes, but he is also incredibly old and more or less watched this universe form. I do wonder what would happen if Yesteel traveled to Roshar, filled himself with stormlight and then hopped in a shardpool back to Nalthis. -
I like the analogies and the diverse magic systems is very intriguing, I think that's pretty awesome. The different ways of channeling Dor is also interesting, but I just find it weird that the power of the Dor seems pretty much infinite. It's limited in the ways it can be used, but this seems to be magic that will never go away. Nalthis has lots of breath, but it's still limited by the amount of people. Most people of Idris will never pass on their breath as well, unless if they take a large theological jump as a country. The amount of gems is the limiting factor to the amount of useable stormlight. I just find the difference of Sel odd, is all. Maybe it really is that there's two shards there.

Hi, I'm a little versed in the Cosmere by reading this forum some, a bit of the Coppermind, and some WoB threads. I have read Stormlight Archives, Warbreaker and Elantris; I need to read Mistborn to get more versed in the Cosmere. I'm just curious if anyone knows why Elantris' Dor is so stupendously overpowered compared to the other magic systems? Returned can heal one person, and Awakeners are limited by amount of breath/color on hand. Fabrials are limited by the size of the gem/amount of stormlight contained, and Radiants have a limited amount of abilities and again stormlight is a major limiting factor. The Dor is an incredible well of power, just waiting to be tapped by Aons and other magic channeling on Sel as long as the user knows the proper Aons, modifiers and has the time to draw it. It has been in use for an unknown amount of time but is just burning to cross over. How is it so powerful?
-
This seems like a fantastic theory. Radiants abandoned humans leaving the only gate that works is the hardest to access, I think because I'm not sure if they quit before the plains became the Shattered Plains. They probably didn't trust humans anymore and locked all the gates before quitting.

Two confusions about the Elantris books
Naurock replied to Amaror's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I'm not sure why Elantris was built. Maybe just as a symbol? A symbol of magic and power that everyone could go to the city for their magics. Really, there's a lot of questions to be had. 1) Why can Elantrians channel the Dor via written Aons? Jindooese via ChayShan? Fjorden's via they're own version of the Aon script? Why do they all need their own system? Just something unique to their own land? 2) Who discovered the Aon text? Same for others in 1. 3) How did the person who built Elantris know it would amplify all Dor Magic in the city? Did he/she draw the massive Aon, find out it worked and then just say yep, let's make a city on this and then make walls over it? 4) Where did Elantrians go before the city was built? (I'm assuming ppl were taken by the Shaod before the city was built because Elantrians are the only ones that can write the glowing script) 5) How does the Shaod choose their ppl, kinda similar to Returned in (War Breaker). Tons more, just a few questions I have. -
I don't seem to remember this, all I remember is Navani remembering Jasnah as a small child always being very matter of fact. The thing your talking about in the prologue seems to be when she met Ivory, her spren. And it seems to be immediately after she declared she didn't believe in their religion.
-
The Aons are just channeling the Dor. Elantris is shaped like a giant Aon RAO, which according to the book glossary means "Spirit, Essence". By making Elantris a giant Aon it amplified the magic they were able to use by channeling the Spirit or essence of the shard on the planet so all magic done near Elantris was stronger. [Like how Raoden's teleportation Aon didn't take them very far without being close to Elantris, despite him specifying length of travel when drawing the Aon Tia to leave Teod (Which I hold firm he could have actually not have to fight the Dilaf Gradget and just kept drawing the Aon continuously until he got closer and closer to home with Sarene)] Raoden was able to still channel the Dor and create illusions for him and Galladon despite Elantris's Aon no longer working, but since it wasn't complete it no longer amplified the magic. **Not from any WoB, just my own deductions.

I don't really think she's a lesbian. Also, like many have stated before just because shes strong-willed and independent it doesn't mean she is automatically gay. I kinda just felt she was so focused on saving the world that she ignores all chances for love as she will see this as a time waster and all of her attention needs to be directed towards learning as much as she needs to stop it.

Two confusions about the Elantris books
Naurock replied to Amaror's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
He actually doesn't need to. A few chapters earlier he states that an Aon could be made of sand and the power would still work if the Aon was wiped away. He just had to "finish" the Aon, and it correctly worked again. -
Question about Szeth, Nightblood and Investiture
Naurock replied to Naurock's topic in Stormlight Archive
Warbreaker Spoiler -
Wasn't the Honorblade that Szeth carried the reason he was able to hold stormlight? Can Shin naturally hold stormlight? How will he power Nightblood, or will holding Nightblood while sheathed allow him to collect Investiture? Or is this going to be Szeth is chosen as a squire to Nale so now he can hold stormlight? We can't expect Szeth to run around throwing NB at everyone like Vasher did in Warbreaker, at some point he has to use it again. Also, the human body has been said to be a leaky container and poor at containing stormlight so will he have to resort to carrying bags of infused gems to power it when he needs to use it?
